Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

Signal Beam can sow be used by Specs Alakazam over Shadow Ball thus making it riskier for Tyranitar to switch in and able to OHKO Celebi, and still do good damage to Cresselia. Yeah Shadow Ball is still a better option but this is somewhat noteable at least.

magnet rise luxray - luxray needs more then that to be good

He did get more than that. Superpower and Signal Beam are both welcome, especially Superpower. Absol getting Superpower is still my favorite addition since I love Absol most of all, but Superpower Luxray is still incredibly dangerous. Steel types can't laugh at neither Absol or Luxray anymore, which I'm very happy for. Rivalry and CB pretty much turns Luxray into something to watch out for, whereas previously Steelix would laugh at him. Although he still wants a strong physical STAB move a lá Flareon, he's vastly improved.

When is this getting implemented for Shoddy?

Shadow Ball isn't better anymore, really. Both moves exist on the set to hurt Psychic types, and Shadow Ball gave free switch-ins to Normals and Tyranitar. Hell, if it does enough to Tyranitar I'll be running Psychic / Signal Beam / HP Fire / Trick...

Salem1, please please please please please please don't say specific Pokémon are "monsters"... it's hyping when you do that and it's my biggest pet peeve. Superpower doesn't solve any of Luxray's main problems (Low Speed and shitty STAB), so how can it turn a mediocre Pokémon into a "monster" single-handedly?

I changed the message before you posted for that reason ;). Also I hope you don't take things like that too serious... incase you do, relax.

Anyway, speed isn't that hard to make up for with BP. Shitty STAB though, I agree... which I said. So yeah, go back and read it.

Rivalry doesn't change anything since you have a 50% chance of Steelix being either gender. CB at most only gives 58% damage on Steelix, then you get an attack drop. If without CB Luxray's not even going to 3HKO Steelix.

On Shoddy, most people aren't going to bother with changing genders, let alone specific pokemon's. Also you don't need to OHKO/2KO Steelix since it has no recovery outside of Leftovers. Also, how am I supposed to know what EV/nature/item/gender/ability you're using for both of those when you're just throwing statistics up like that...

Ice Punch Lucario will affect Gliscor's natural ability to switch-in to pose a threat even more so than it did before. I know Hidden Power [Ice] was already available to Lucario and was often used, but now with Ice Punch and Swords Dance's ability to increase the power of it, Lucario will be commonly found with an Ice-type move to ensure that both Salamence and Gliscor do not get in its way at all.

With the addition of Outrage on the already-established, Dragon-type Salamence, this can only help further increase its popularity over Dragonite. Some critical 3HKOs will become 2HKOs on those bulkier Pokemon, that usually have to deal with Salamence's sustainable Dragon Claw, with the addition of one of the best moves in the game, Outrage. It can only get better for Salamence with the arrival of the new moves tutors.

Zapdos getting Heat Wave? Alright. I can only imagine this influences Zapdos' offensively-based spreads, like Life Orb + Agility varients or Choice Specs versions.

There are some other interesting additions that I am excited about.

Salamence @ Yache Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SpAtk)
-Dragon Dance
-Outrage
-Earthquake
-Flamethrower/Fire Blast

Probable Cheap with Outrage.

Except that it can actually be contained by walls such as Cresselia without the need to sacrifice something. Salamence will not be able to get away without a boosting item as easily as Chomp with only Dragon Dance to boost Attack.

Salamence could run crunch over earthquake, but with Skymin (it's not gonna be uber dammit) heatrans popularity will probably rise even more, so Salamence needs quake there...

Like I've said, I don't care for Yache Salamence when compared to Garchomp. Salamence suffers from losing 25% of its health to Stealth Rocks, and it does not benefit from Sand Stream, all which lead to many Ice Beams hitting through Yache for the KO regardless.

Maybe because Knock Off is now a Tutor Move?

seriously dude would you ever use both on tenta

yeah, awesome. he doesnt even _need_ hidden power anymore (but will probably still use it all the time)

finally someone agrees with me ~_~

On the bright side, this makes Sleep clause arguable. Less clauses are welcome imo, unless they're not good clauses like OHKO.

Just what the fuck.

Anywho, I'm pretty hyped about not only the Rotoms, but Elemental Punching Lucario, and Crobat is awesome too, and we can now say that DP has a place for Flygon??? Choice Scarf Outrage

60% Accuracy isn't very good at all. The chance of it hitting twice in a row is 30%, so you'd have to be pretty lucky. I'm not saying SC should be removed for Ladder battles or anything, I'm just saying 60% accuracy won't make it a crime against humanity to de-activate SC when challenging someone.

have you ever even played advance? it was 60% the whole time. Low accuracy doesnt meant removing sleep clause is all of a sudden a good idea, especially with choice scarf in this gen.

talking about it is a waste of time lol

Since you can find the legendary birds I hope you can find the dogs too. That would be yet another contribute to the games awesomeness
