Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

I'm going to make a sweeping statement here and say that Outrage is crap on anything that doesn't get STAB on it. Why would you use Outrage on a Nidoking?

That said, Outrage Salamence is going to be huge. Syberia (I believe) mentioned a Draco Meteor / Outrage / Fiew Blast / Earthquake ScarfMence. That'll be fun. Outrage > Brick Break on MixMence may be interesting, but I've a feeling I'm way off with that one. Not to mention DDMence rape...

Reckon Flygon'll have something going for it as the only Pokemon in OU with STAB'd Outrage and Earthquake? "New Garchomp" is far from realistic, nobody say that or they'll get shot. By me.

Heat Wave Zapdos/Crobat leads me to believe this list is highly unreliable.

Dragon Dance / Outrage / Aqua Tail Kingdra looks... hmm...

Superpower Absol! Excellent. Absol just got a lot more going for it.

Off all of them, I think Tyranitar will be one of the best able to take advantage of Aqua Tail being a tutor. Near confirmed 2HKO on all Hippowdon with a CB is damn sweet.

Still can't get over Bullet Punch Scizor. Best addition with Platinum, IMO.

Ahem.
Kingdra @ Life Orb
Prolly Naughty Natured.
- Rain Dance
- Waterfall
- Outrage
- Filler move (Because seriously, who cares when one has those toys to play with?) aka Draco Meteor.

Have fun with that. I know I'll have.

Also, Scarf Entei FTW?

As much as people say "non-stab outrage is fail" I'd still like to see Arcanine with it. And Super Power.

Arcanine
Adamant
Choice Band
-Flare Blitz
-Outrage
-Super Power
-Extreme Speed

. . . seems, pretty viable. >.>

id like to remind everyone that ddoutrage nite is not that popular, and it was SD that made outrage huge.

predicting ddoutrage mence is overhyped

You're forgetting that mence is a lot faster than nite, even with an adamant nature, add in intimidate, and I see ddmence being a very dangerous threat.

Heat Wave Zapdos was really a surprise. I wish it got Air Slash though, stuff Air Cutter...oh well if it's stronger than my Zapdo's HP Flying, then I'll be happy. Zapdos got other wind moves such as Ominous Wind and Twister, so it may get Icy Wind too....

Personally I don't think Outrage is crap on non-STAB pokes, mainly Gyarados. I may sound like a fool saying this, but ResTalk Gyarados with Outrage would actually be pretty cool. Though it'd still want a STAB move, so it'd lose out on DD :|

Anyways loving the tutor moves. Also saw the birds are in Platinum, ( Don't know if this has already been mentioned). I'm suprised Nintendo is making a lot of old games obsolete.... Watch Pt have a funky RNG, just wait, "Oh man I got 31/31/24/31/31/31 again!"

Pretty much agree with you especially that part about Bullet Punch Scizor. The only thing that lets me down is Dragonite lost his "DD+Outrage" but I guess it's still has Agility and Punches over Salamence so it's not a total lose.

Wow, it took page 4 before Outrage Kingdra was mentioned. =/

Outrage - Salamence, Flygon, Nidoking, Kingdra, Snorlax, Gyarados, Lapras, Rhydon, Tauros, Marowak, Venusaur

Mixmence with Draco Meteor and Outrage is going to cripple tons.

I'd really love for Flygon to be good, but Outrage isn't going to be doing too much for it. I guess a gimmicky Screech Flygon could be fun, but whatever.

Nidoking <3. Love the guy, but I don't see it improving it much.

Kingdra's going to be awesome...-er. Pretty much any set's going to be benefiting from Outrage.

Lapras, Rhydon/perior, Tauros, Marowak, Venusaur, whatever. =/

BulletPunch SDScizor and Outraging Kingdra/Salamence are some of the best things I read. And with all of the new hype on Scizor and new Signal Beamers, Celebi use will hopefully lower. Oh, and Heat Wave Zapdos is gonna be neat, and hurt Celebi more.

Can't wait to get the game, and more specifically, use all of these new sets on Shoddy when they're implemented.

According to the Smogon description as it is, Drifblim can't speed itself up when getting rid of its item through Trick. I guess this is because he'd be getting a new item in return or something.

If that is the case then it'll need to be changed on Shoddy as I've switched Drifblim into Trick/Switcheroo before and gained another item and an Unburden boost. I was getting quite excited about this one too as it would mean that Drifblim could set up its speed and cripple the opponent at the same time, as well as potentially act like a combination of Agility + Knock Off later in the match.

Best moves:

Signal Beam - Cresselia, Magnezone, Glaceon, Espeon, Jolteon, Electrode, Manectric, Luxray
Magnet Rise - Luxray
Earth Power - Gastrodon, Torkoal
Iron Head - Mamoswine, Gyarados
Outrage - Salamence, Flygon, Kingdra
Superpower - Dragonite, Flareon, Rampardos, Absol, Blaziken, Tyranitar, Snorlax, Mamoswine, Luxray, Honchkrow
Seed Bomb - Shiftry
Heat Wave - Zapdos, Crobat
Trick - Porygon-Z, Drifblim
Zen Headbutt - Bronzong, Medicham, Gallade
Gunk Shot - Toxicroak
ThunderPunch - Rampardos, Lucario, Toxicroak
Fire Punch - Rampardos
Ice Punch - Lucario, Toxicroak, Floatzel
Sucker Punch - Shiftry, Skuntank
Aqua Tail - Gligar, Salamence, Tyranitar, Garchomp
Knock Off - Empoleon

I want to see what Luxray is able to do with all these new moves. Maybe a mixed set with Thunderbolt, Superpower, Ice Fang and Magnet Rise/Signal Beam.

Glaceon gets a third special attack, so it can use a complete Specs set with Ice Beam, Shadow Ball, Signal Beam and HP Fighting. The same happens with Manectric and Magnezone.

Gastrodon will be able to use its second STAB in the special side, while Torkoal will get coverage with it.

Outrage will be useful only with Dragons, but Salamence and Kingdra will be the best users of it.

Superpower is the best tutor move: Flareon gets a strong physical attack, Absol can fight with steels, the same happens to Rampardos, Honchkrow and Luxray, and finally, Mamoswine will enjoy with another strong attack. Don't forget Blaziken, which gets a strong fighting STAB.

Seed Bomb could be used by Shiftry, while Heat Wave will improve even more Zapdos and Crobat. Trick is a very useful move in Porygon-Z move pool too.

Zen Headbutt will see uses in Medicham and Gallade over Psychocut. Gunk Shot is designed for Toxicroak and punches will help Rampardos, Lucario and Toxicroak a lot.

Sucker Punch would be useful with Shiftry and Skuntank, while Aqua Tail gives a strong water attack to Salamence, Tyranitar and even Garchomp. Finally, Knock Off could help to the annoying Empoleon.

I see some changes in tiers... Glaceon, Absol, Victreebell or Shiftry could be really dangerous in UU, while Zapdos, Mamoswine and Salamence will be even more threatening.

IMO Psycho Cut>Zen Headbutt as 100% accuracy + critical hit ratio > 90% accuracy and flinch rate. Also, MixRay with it's new toys looks interesting :).

Outrage Lax makes me think of those RBY days. Snorlax woke up! It attacked in a grumpy rage! ^_^. Superpower also makes CB lax more viable.

Ah I'm so glad for Ice Punch Gallade being available on D/P now :)

Is there any confirmation of these Move Tutors being re-usable like in Emerald? With BP or something.

Also, is the Outrage Tutor 100% confirmed?

Edit: Oh my, Ice Punch Lucario might be deadly.

If true, a lot of those moves are really crazy, this will take some getting used to once implemented...

Because I'm thinking at something like this:

Alakazam @ Choice Specs
Timid (252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 HP)
- Trick
- Vacuum Wave
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic

Is there any confirmation of these Move Tutors being re-usable like in Emerald? With BP or something.
These tutors are confirmed I believe and are used with Shards / BP. That accounts for 2/3 of the tutors. Perhaps 2 are with shards.

IS AVAILABLE TENTACRUEL WITH RAPID SPIN + KNOCK OFF?

Ugh... why do people keep randomly walking in and assuming that the game magically makes incompatible egg moves possible? At least ask with a sentence that doesn't make me cringe....

Zen Headbutt Medicham is okay, but Psycho Cut is better. Over time, Zen Headbutt averages just 2 more base power (80 * .9 = 72) than Psycho Cut, factor in the crit rate and Psycho Cut is still better.

Both Honchkrow and Absol get nice toy in form of SuperPower. We need like 10 suspect ladders to check them all (and thats still not at the same time)

The best thing is you can just ask someone to get the moves on that pokemon, which you could not do with emerald.
