Worst Pokemon Sprites?

Well, Cyndaquil definitely did. Found a gif showing that yeah... the fire isn't there all the time. Typhlosion really was butchered when it came to a model though, now it looks like a groundhog.

Here's the model from the back. Such a shame. It was my favorite back in Gen II and they ruined it.

Thanks for that, I looked all over but couldn't find backs for any of them.

Yeah, I have to agree. Cyndaquil was my very first Pokémon in the very first game I ever owned, so that family line will always have a special place in my heart.

I'm guessing they are trying to now paint the picture that Typhlosion only fires up while attacking, presumably to save energy, though he hardly looks as intimidating now.

This I think is inconsistent, or did Typhlosion always do this in the anime?

I hear you loud and clear. Gen II was always my favorite and every time I play it, be it HG or replaying GSC, I choose Cyndaquil. Although I played RB first, I really fell in love with Pokémon in Johto.

I think it's clear that they only want to emphasize the fire aspect of its design while it attacks, which is why they should have smoke bellowing out or something. It just looks so incomplete when they've always shown it like this:

Who knows, though, if it did have smoke in place of flames I'd probably bitch about that too.

Well I always thought Typhlosion was cool but I never thought its design was that good in the first place. When you look at it without the fire you realize the fire was the only thing making it interesting. It is jarring to see it w/o the fire, just as its weird to see cascoon/silcoon without the "spikes."

It does look kind of odd, seeing as how the sprites seemed to show it rearing up and roaring at you, ready to impale its enemies with its tusks. BW got it really nicely. But... I can't look at the RS sprite and not giggle, THAT NOSE!

I think what I'm slowly starting to realize with the above Walrein and Typhlosion examples is that Gen 6 sprites aren't necessarily... bad as such; but due to their blandness it really shows off a bad design whereas previous gens managed to get said bad/awkward/boring designs into a position where it actually looked okay. Take away that one little thing and... woah. Typhlosion's just some piece of shit blob.

The same as Quagsire now that you say that. Its sprites seem to show a much more interesting, active creature. But with the models, the reality sets in that it is just a blob with a little ridge on its back.

Actually, I just remembered a certain mon who may very well have gotten more screwed than any other mon in the 6th gen models.

I swear to god, when I first saw this I thought someone forgot to animate it but NOPE. That is how it is supposed to be, COMPLETELY STILL, LIKE A ROCK!!

I honestly don't know why they led this fly, I guess because they wanna drive home the point that Ferroseed is more or less just a horny plant inside of a cement egg stuck in the ground but seriously, who thought it was a good idea to make it look like it is frozen!? I mean the gen 5 sprites had Ferroseed dancing and twirling like a disco star!!

Look at it owning the floor like a boss! How dare GF not let it learn rapid spin after this awesomeness!!

But nope, next time you throw it into a battle it becomes a more still rock/egg than the actual pokemons based on those objects!!!

Do I really look like a horny cement egg? :[

I thought it was actually pretty cool how Ferroseed was partially buried in the ground...

...Until you brought up that disco star sprite.

Ferrothorn also got sort of shafted. It was awesome, how he used to be hanging from above like the hanging gardens of Babylon...

Not to harp on my old post, but if you guys haven't seen the work DJTHED is doing over in Smeargle's Laptop, you're missing out. I was browsing the CAP 3D modeling thread and saw a Typhlosion with flames in his sig, which lead me to his thread. Here she is, problem solved.

All their work is brilliant tbh. I especially like their Mega T-tar; it's a shame because it shows how good things could've been.
