Project What's Their Last? v2 [Week 24: Voting phase]

Congratulations Dumb Sir for winning this week with your Cobalion submission. The original Pokemon was Specs Hydreigon, and thank you hs who submitted last weeks team. Cobalion eases up a lot of match-ups thanks to its typing while being a phenomenal stallbreaker with CM + T-Spikes support. Well done everyone else with your submissions!

"This team's a bulky offense that uses some uncommon picks as well as some common ones, and i built it w my good friend DraconicLepus. Scizor checks mons like aero/mamo/celebi and esp lati that can otherwise threaten the team a lot. toad was needed as the rocker bc it's a good check to various water type removers like tent n empoleon. Lucario gave our team wallbreaking ability, which we rly wanted so the team didnt just get slapped by stall. Colbur lati helps a lot w the krook matchup and lati's typing just provides a lot of defensive utility. Heattom gives the team a form of hazard control and a good Scizor + Flying check. What's my Last?"

aerodactyl-mega.gif

Aerodactyl-Mega @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang / Roost
- Pursuit

The team in it's current state is kinda slow, as the only thing faster then base 100's is Latias. The only way the current team can revenge kill is through Lucario and Scizor, but both require settup to pick off non-weakened threats. The team, bar scizor, also hates psychic types and ghost types in general. All of these reasons are why I think Mega Aerodactyl is a nice fit for the last slot. With it's fantastic speed tier as well as access to coverage/utility like Ice Fang and Pursuit, really helps the team's BO matchup, potentially trapping Latias and choice locked Hydreigon, or luring both as well as Gligar with Ice Fang, which the team really appreciates.

171745

Muk-Alola @ Assault Vest
Ability: Poison Touch
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Fire Punch
- Pursuit
- Gunk Shot
- Knock Off

The team has noticeable issues with hp fire celebi (or psychium with chip on the scizor), HP fire latias, and Hydreigon in particular, among other things, since only latias can really revenge these and can't switch in on them except for celebi, and even then has to watch out for dazzling gleam. It also generally has a hard time with other strong special attackers like moltres, nihilego and np nape once their checks/counters have vanished, the latter in particular 5-0'ing everything if latias dies.

Assault vest muk helps to patch up all these areas, by trapping celebi, latias (needing to do it twice because of colbur but still very easy), and being able to comfortably take hits to revenge a boosted nihilego / infernape. While it needs to be careful about burns on moltres, it can certainly try and trap it too if it is worth the risk in the matchup.

The team rn needs some speed control + psychic and ghost answer.

krookodile.png

Krookodile @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge

krook fits pretty well on this team since the team really dislikes lati, and rotom-h can only go so far to keep moltres in check. also celebi is a dick

Congratulations Datsplashtho for winning this week with your Krookodile submission. The original Pokemon was actually Swellow, so none of ya'll were getting it exactly this week x). There won't be any curveballs like this for a while promise. Krook fits well as a way to handle Latias a bit more with Scizor. The celebi match-up is actually pretty good on this team with Scizor + Latias so I just wanted to make note of that. Thank you A Cake Wearing A Hat for providing last weeks squad and well done everyone else who participated this week.

Cobalion @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- Volt Switch
- Close Combat
- Stealth Rock
"I started with Cofa since OTR can be really threatening late game. Nidoking provided some immediate power and could lure Blissey with Superpower. Hydreigon was reliable speed control and is never a bad idea with Nidoking. Aerodactyl was a natural pick with Ice Fang to pressure Mega Altaria and revenge kill without getting locked into a move. Cobalion is rather nice right now and provides Stealth Rocks for the team. Volt Switch lets it pivot around with Hydreigon nicely for an opportunity for Nidoking or Cofa to start breaking. What's my last? "

Rotom-Heat @ Wiki Berry
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 236 HP / 24 SpA / 248 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Overheat
- Volt Switch
- Toxic
- Defog

The team as it currently is has zero hazard control. It also has a shaky scizor matchup, with cofagrius having no recovery and being offensive it can't put much pressure on scizor once the enemy knows this, but it is able to force mummy a few times a game at least. Cobalion cannot take a banded superpower, although it will happily tank any other moves, but with no form of recovery the scizor just needs to casually chip away at it, and coba can't touch a bulky sciz without set up. The rest of the team simply dies to scizor once it gets chipped enough (depending on the set for how much chip needed).

Rotom-heat helps with both of these points, by being a defogger that puts a lot of pressure on scizor.

It also synergises nicely with the volt-turn going on with scarf hydreigon and volt switch cobalion, adding even more momentum to the team, and therefore running 248 speed ev's to try and get the slower volt switch against opposing rotom-heats.

Less important, but still worth noting that it provides a secondary moltres check to the team, which is nice since the aerodactyl isn't running roost for longevity.

Rotom-Mow @ Iapapa Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Leaf Storm
- Defog

The team lacks hazard control, as well as a way to remove waters. The lawnmower solves these issues, as well as provides Volt Switch support as well. Also has the benefit of cutting the lawn.

As others will mention, this team has 0 hazard control and will die to hazard stack teams. Scizor pretty much snaps this team's neck, since Cobalion can't boost to muscle through it. The team could also use the slightest favor in the Primarina matchup.
SO, as a result, I would like to represent starmeh!

starmie.png

Star(Starmie) @ Life Orb
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Psyshock
- Rapid Spin
- Thunderbolt

Starmie fits the criteria of all of these nicely, since it can check Scizor's Bullet Punching attempts and can Rapid Spin away the team's main problems. It also pairs nicely with MAero and Hydreigon for their ability to pressure Ghosties that try to spinblock.

empoleon.gif

Empoleon @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 248 HP / 76 Def / 184 SpD
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Toxic
- Defog
- Protect

Another 'Mon that compresses hazard control and a sturdy Scizor check into one slot, while also giving the team a Primarina switch-in, a bulky Water and some much-needed bulk in general. It does have the downside of stacking weaknesses, but Protect in the last slot helps it scout for the main potential problem in Banded Superpower Scizor, turning it from a threat into a setup opportunity for Cofa.

Silvally-Steel @ Steel Memory
Ability: RKS System
EVs: 252 HP / 240 SpD / 16 Spe
Calm Nature
- Defog
- Parting Shot
- Toxic
- Flamethrower

Latias puts this team in the dirt give or take pursuit Aero, but of course that doesn't substitute for a genuine pivot into Lati. Silvally also provides hazard control that the team lacks, as well as a check for Scizor. It also gives the team a decent pivot for Primarina, which can be otherwise annoying.

Chandelure @ Choice Specs
Timid Nature
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 48 Def / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 200 Spe
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Hyper Beam
- Haze

Chandelure is able to hard wall scizor by resisting both its stabs and being immune to superpower and outspeeding it.

The only thing Chandelure needs to outspeed is scizor, so some EV's can moved from there to defense to help against CM latias. Currently, if chandelure from full switches in to CM latias that boosts on the switch and rocks are up, psyshock has a 50% chance of KO'ing (at +1 here). Haze is there to in case the Latias decides to keeps CM, forcing it to Draco Meteor or switch out (b/c Hydreigon).
For the record, I am not sure if the current spread actual does outspeed all scizor variants, but I am pretty sure it does. As a side note, overheat can be used over fire blast for better accuracy, but it only secures 1 notable damage calcs so fire blast is used here instead. This is largely a lure/stallbreaker that fits well with the volt-turn core of the team granting it opportunities to stallbreak as well as being able to come in freely on all scizor variants. It also works well with the trick room on the team, but that is more of a plus than anything else.

Fire Blast can: OHKO Krock, 2HKO Empoleon, 2HKO Florges
shadow ball can: 2 HKO's defensive alolamola primarina (90.3%), 74.2% chance to 2HKO hippo no rocks, 2HKO swampert/Defensive moltres
hyper beam can: OHKO's hydreigon after stealth rock damage with 31.3% chance with no rocks, 25% chance to OHKO Mega-Altaria from full, 62.5% offense moltres from full [other two moves deal 51% and can KO after rocks] and OHKO rotom-Heat after rocks and 2HKO Quagisre.
