Magnezone as a counter. (?!?!?!)

Magnezone @ Electrium Z
Modest Nature
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power Fire

Magnezone (doesn’t really matter which set) is a reliable switch in for both pyukumuku sets and can beat both easily. This magnezone can set up a substitute on pyuku and proceed to 2hko with Tbolt if it got soaked or if it blocked toxic, you can flash cannon ground switchins or whittle pyukumuku to a HP where innards out no longer KOes zone.

Also takes advantage of steel type staples on stall like Celesteela.

(Scarf zone has the additional advantage of not losing momentum to Chansey but risks being locked into volt switch on grounds so I just went with my preferred set)

Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Crunch
- Waterfall
- Taunt

252 Atk Mold Breaker Gyarados-Mega Crunch vs. 252 HP / 0- Def Pyukumuku: 154-183 (51.1 - 60.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Mold Breaker Gyarados-Mega Waterfall vs. 252 HP / 0- Def Pyukumuku: 77-91 (25.5 - 30.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

With Taunt, Mega Gyarados can force Pyukumuku to struggle, which avoids Toxic damage and also drops Pyuku's HP in safe, predictable increments. Blocking Rest also lets you wear it down properly. You'll have to plan out the correct strategy for KOing Pyukumuku in the most effective way possible, but a +1 Waterfall caps out at 136 damage, which is 41% of Gyarados's own HP, so you shouldn't have to worry about taking more than that unless you get an untimely crit.

Obviously, Pyuku can switch out and back in, trying to catch a lethal Crunch on the switch, but the risks of switching around on a healthy Mega Gyarados should be obvious, and if you're worried you can always just click Waterfall, which does a more manageable chunk of damage to the sea cucumber.

This set also has the benefit of beating Unaware Spite Pyukumuku with ease, and generally posing a threat to stall once Zapdos or the fat Grass-type is sufficiently weakened.

Alakazam as a counter

alakazam.gif

Alakazam @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic / Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Fire / Shadow Ball
- Recover

Magic Guard allows Alakazam to switch in without worrying about Toxic, and then 2HKO with Psychic or Psyshock without taking damage from Innards Out.

If Pyukumuku uses Soak, Alakazam can still 2HKO with Psychic/Psyshock + Focus Blast if damage rolls are in its favor.

STABs (before Soak):
252 SpA Life Orb Alakazam Psychic vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Pyukumuku: 183-216 (60.7 - 71.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Alakazam Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 0- Def Pyukumuku: 181-214 (60.1 - 71%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

STABs (after Soak):
252 SpA Life Orb Alakazam Psychic vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Pyukumuku: 122-144 (40.5 - 47.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Alakazam Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 0- Def Pyukumuku: 121-143 (40.1 - 47.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Coverage:
252 SpA Life Orb Alakazam Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Pyukumuku: 162-192 (53.8 - 63.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Alakazam Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Pyukumuku: 40-48 (13.2 - 15.9%) -- possible 7HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Alakazam Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Pyukumuku: 109-129 (36.2 - 42.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

hey just wondering, is there any benefit to running level 96 and max hp as opposed to running level 100 and less hp evs? seems like being level 96 would ruin the surprise factor of the set a bit and would make it harder to bluff unaware.
That makes it easier to OHKO pyukumuku or put it in berry range by reaching the same HP as a non-252 EV lv100 set but with reduced defenses.

Thank you everyone for another fantastic week of Submissions! Right so I'll admit that I completely neglected the fact that I completely forgot about checks and counters for this set, as I personally wanted to screw with you lot this week, so for the following section, I'm going to be scrapping checks and counters this week in favour of your two favourite mons, then we'll pretend that they're checks and counters. So without further ado, here are this week's coverups nominees:

Lose Yourself - Eminem

Thank you everyone for participating yet again! This week, our sole winner is Taunt Mega Gyarados by Akumeoy ! I know, I promised that I'd announce two winners, but unfortunately, we've had a tie this week, so I won't be including them both.

Golden Years - David Bowie
Hydreigon (M) @ Darkinium Z
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 244 SpA / 32 SpD / 232 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dark Pulse
- Earth Power
- Flash Cannon
- Roost

Heatran has recently established itself as a noticeable wallbreaker, thanks to the combination of a noteworthy offensive presence, which in tandem with its fantastic movepool and excellent stab, allows Hydreigon to break past common balance staples, including Gliscor, Gastrodon, Tornadus and Heatran, while pressuring other common picks such as Toxapex, Celesteela, Tapu Bulu and Clefable by forcing them to either frequently recover or preventing them from switching in. It also possesses an interesting defensive typing, which combined with its passable bulk and access to reliable recovery, grants it the ability to check many common breakers, including Heatran and Greninja, while also being able to simply sit in front of many common walls such as Tangrowth, Toxapex, Heatran, Gastrodon and Gliscor, which are unable to touch Hydreigon, especially if its burnt. Its speed tier is pretty nice too, since you threaten Heatran and Zygarde for heavy damage. Unfortunately, it does have some crippling flaws that prevents it from being a fantastic choice in the current meta. Compared to other wallbreakers, Hydreigon is relatively weak, failing to break the majority of its common targets without heavy prediction, in fact, it fails to break many of its intended targets thanks to the lack of said power. Clefable and Tapu Bulu can simply take a flash cannon from a healthy range and ohko it in return, as well as it having to rely on flinches and entry hazards to break past other walls, including Celesteela, Toxapex and Gastrodon. Toxapex in particular can simply pivot out if it is every threatened so, it really does struggle to break common cores. Its also forced to recover of threats such as the aforementioned Greninja and Heatran, since their respective stab moves do a considerable amount of damage, meaning it is incredibly pressured itself to recover in order to check said mons. Something something something, transition, can you find a pokemon to exploit its flaws?
Deadline is when I come back. Or when I ask Lyd to do it. Happy Posting Everyone!

Doesn't come in on Hydreigon usually because of Flash Cannon, but that's why it's a good soft-check. It forces Hydreigon to practically always click Flash Cannon which can make it a lot easier to play around. Of course Clefable also wins 1v1.

EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD

It takes very low damage from Earth Power or Black Hole Ecplipse and send Hydreigon to the creator with Fleur Cannon

Volcarona @ Buginium Z
Ability: Flame Body
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power Ground

Volcarona outpaces Hydreigon and KOes it with Bug Buzz or Savage Spin-Out.

252 SpA Volcarona Bug Buzz vs. 0 HP / 32 SpD Hydreigon: 320-378 (98.4 - 116.3%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

Toxapex @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Recover
- Haze
- Toxic
Toxapex can eat anything Hydreigon can throw it. It can then use Toxic to cripple Hydreigon. Just look out for the occasional Taunt.

Tapu Bulu @ Assault Vest
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 60 Atk / 56 SpD / 144 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Horn Leech
- Wood Hammer
- Superpower
- Nature's Madness

Tapu Bulu @ Grassium Z
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpD / 8 Def
Careful Nature
- Swords Dance
- Horn Leech
- Superpower
- Synthesis

Both AV and SpDef SD Bulu are hard checks to this Drei set (I would say counters if not for the potential SpDef drops), pick your favourite.

244+ SpA Hydreigon Flash Cannon vs. 248 HP / 56 SpD Assault Vest Tapu Bulu: 124-146 (36.1 - 42.5%) -- 92.6% chance to 3HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
60+ Atk Tapu Bulu Superpower vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 272-322 (83.6 - 99%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

244+ SpA Hydreigon Flash Cannon vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Tapu Bulu: 138-164 (40.2 - 47.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
0 Atk Tapu Bulu Superpower vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 238-280 (73.2 - 86.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 244 HP / 252 Def / 12 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

- Wish / Toxic
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss

252 SpA Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 244 HP / 12 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 81-96 (11.5 - 13.6%) -- possible 7HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Hydreigon Black Hole Eclipse (160 BP) vs. 244 HP / 12 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 160-190 (22.7 - 27%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock

Hydreigon needs 5 flinch in a row to beat down Chansey after rock. I don't think It's necessary to say more.

Tapu Lele as a check.

tapu_lele.gif

Tapu Lele @ Fightinium Z / Psychium Z / whatever
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic / Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Taunt / Calm Mind / Psyshock / Hidden Power Fire
- Focus Blast / Hidden Power Fire

Any lele works well against hydreigon, especially when this one isn't even timid for some reason, since moonblast deals massive overkill damage. It only needs to be wary of switching into the Z move, as flash cannon barely 2HKOs.

Tapu Fini as a hard counter.

Tapu Fini @ Leftovers
Ability: Misty Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Taunt
- Defog
- Moonblast
- Scald/Surf

Hydreigon's attacks don't do anything to fini, and gets OHKOed by moonblast. The only chance Hydreigon has is to have 8 dark pulse flinches in a row, so basically it has as much of a chance of beating fini as the Browns have of winning the Super Bowl, or my chances of getting a girlfriend.

calcs:

244+ SpA Hydreigon Earth Power vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Fini: 84-99 (24.4 - 28.8%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
244+ SpA Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Fini: 55-66 (16 - 19.2%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery
244+ SpA Hydreigon Flash Cannon vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Fini: 74-88 (21.5 - 25.6%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
244+ SpA Hydreigon Black Hole Eclipse (160 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Fini: 110-130 (32 - 37.9%) -- 0.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Mega Heracross as a check (soft counter?)

heracross-mega.gif

Heracross @ Heracronite
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Rock Blast
- Pin Missile / Substitute / Bullet Seed

Heracross is only 3HKOed by Flash Cannon, and its typing gives it a resistance to both Dark Pulse and Earth Power, allowing it to switch in, mega evolve, and OHKO with Close Combat or Pin Missile.

However, it has trouble switching in if Hydreigon hasn't used its Z-Move yet. Black Hole Eclipse + Flash Cannon has a chance to 2HKO if more than one layer of Spikes is up, and since Heracross is slower and lacks priority, it can't prevent that from happening on its own.

Offensive:
252+ Atk Heracross-Mega Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 614-726 (188.9 - 223.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Heracross-Mega Pin Missile (5 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 660-780 (203 - 240%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Heracross-Mega Rock Blast (5 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 220-260 (67.6 - 80%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Heracross-Mega Bullet Seed (5 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 110-130 (33.8 - 40%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ Atk Heracross-Mega Bullet Seed (5 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon in Grassy Terrain: 165-195 (50.7 - 60%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252+ Atk Heracross-Mega Rock Blast (5 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 430-510 (132.3 - 156.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Heracross-Mega Bullet Seed (5 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 215-255 (66.1 - 78.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252+ Atk Heracross-Mega Bullet Seed (5 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon in Grassy Terrain: 325-380 (100 - 116.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Defensive:
244+ SpA Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Heracross-Mega: 66-78 (21.9 - 25.9%) -- 3.8% chance to 4HKO
244+ SpA Hydreigon Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Heracross-Mega: 50-59 (16.6 - 19.6%) -- possible 6HKO
244+ SpA Hydreigon Flash Cannon vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Heracross-Mega: 89-105 (29.5 - 34.8%) -- 9.8% chance to 3HKO
244+ SpA Hydreigon Black Hole Eclipse (160 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Heracross-Mega: 132-156 (43.8 - 51.8%) -- 14.1% chance to 2HKO
244+ SpA Hydreigon Black Hole Eclipse (160 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Heracross: 144-170 (47.8 - 56.4%) -- 85.9% chance to 2HKO
244+ SpA Hydreigon Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Heracross: 54-64 (17.9 - 21.2%) -- possible 5HKO

Low Kick Greninja as a check

Greninja @ Fightinium Z (optional)/Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Low Kick
- Gunk Shot
- Ice Beam
- Spikes

Although Greninja can't really take Hydreigon's hits that well, Low Kick is a straight 2HKO (252 Atk Protean Greninja Low Kick (100 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 288-342 (88.6 - 105.2%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO) even without Fightinium Z.
With Life Orb: 252 Atk Life Orb Protean Greninja Low Kick (100 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 374-445 (115 - 136.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Greninja can also take Black Hole Eclipse after Stealth Rocks and 1 Spike: 244+ SpA Hydreigon Black Hole Eclipse (160 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Greninja: 183-216 (64.2 - 75.7%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes

Medicham @ Medichamite

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly / Adamant Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Zen Headbutt
- Ice Punch
- Fake Out

If this mon gets out against Hydreigon and the Hydra user doesn't have mew/reun/whatever in the back something is gonna die. Perhaps more specifically, Cham outruns and can OHKO with both HJK and Ice Punch, which in turn allows it to put an immense amount of pressure onto the Hydra user's team if can grab momentum on the Hydra switch by doubling out of Ash Greninja or whatever.
