Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Aight we done. Tapler's Light Metal and The Main Mon's White Smoke are in first place followed by MegaFlareon's Hyper Cutter and ChoiceScarfed's Stall in second
Tapler’s Light Metal 3
The Main Mon’s White Smoke 3
so, to start off with. I really think now pokemon with this ability will be a lot more viable, especially the moms that have stat lowering moves. Like heatmor, you can run a physical set with superpower and not worry about the Attack and Defence drops. For Torkoal, you can run Shell Smash without needing the White Herb. And for Centiskorch, you can run a special set and not worry about overheat special drops.
Shell Smash Torkoal is an obvious one, not having to compromise its bulk. You could also, as a meme, run Superpower without taking any stat drops. Overheat is its best STAB.
Curse is Heatmor's only boosting move, but now it doesn't have to compromise its speed. Superpower goes with it.
Centiskorch is an Overheat spammer.
Light Metal
Scizor's Iron Head replaces Bullet Punch.
Metagross loves it as Meteor Mash is nasty, especially if it gets the Atk boost.
Duraludon has a niche as a special priority attacker. Steel Beam is nasty, but Flash Cannon is reliable.
Registeel probably wouldn't bother with it.
Hyper Cutter
Gliscor and Crawdaunt won't run it
Kingler could trap something and use it to set up SD / Agility
Pinsir / Mawile can use a trap to set up some Swords Dances, but really need some speed help.
Crab has Bulk Up for trap + boost but needs lots of help due to its speed.
Nothing much to see here but it is a weird gimmicky Overheat spammer. Can't see it being OU solely because of a spammable stab, but it is at least out of PU now.
The superior Overheat spammer. While its low speed still makes it struggle to sweep, it's a lot easier to set up now that it doesn't need to worry about its defenses being lowered
Light Metal
Scizor @ Leftovers / Metal Coat
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Roost
- Iron Head
- Knock Off / Superpower / U-Turn
Rather Gimmicky, but it's still essentially a very slightly better version of the Bullet Punch set. Pretty straightforward, the onlydifference between Iron Head and Bullet Punch for Scizor is the fact one has less PP but a 30% flinch chance. Likely won't be used over Technician, but I wouldn't say outright unviable
Metagross @ Choice Band
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Zen Headbutt
- Thunder Punch
It pretty much just kinda exists. 67 BP is pretty good for a priority STAB move, but Steel really isn't very spammable.
Hyper Cutter
Mawile @ Leftovers
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Taunt
- Knock Off
- Stealth Rock / Toxic
Stallbreaker Heatran but bad
Crabominable @ Leftovers
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Substitute
- Ice Hammer
Egg With Limbs can try to run a funny set-up set. It's not incredibly efficient, but if after the balancing slate it gets good enough stats, maybe it can see some usage (Probably not really but it's at least an interesting set)
Ok stage 2 time, after this we movin to a new thread
Hyper Cutter
(
) Light Metal
Stall
White Smoke
-Light Metal, White Smoke and Stall can have distribution boosts
-Any Pokemon with the ability not seen in the above list cannot be buffed. Scizor and Crawdaunt are already good while Kingler got a buff after Shell Armor was souped up
-If just one of Sableye or Mawile gets a BST buff I will administer an equivalent one to the other to keep them on par as a duo. For a similar reason Registeel and Metagross must have the same BST
Tapler's Light Metal is pretty clear on what Pokemon can use it fairly nice...
Although, if we were to consider another pokemon to have this ability, I believe Bisharp would appreciate to have Light Metal to have a more reliable STAB Priority moves than Sucker Punch. Plus, Bisharp's armor seems fairly light. I'm mostly certainly biased, I'm working on a Bisharp, and Sucker Punch is mostly there for good mesure. I could ask for a new Steel move, such as Bullet Punch or Meteor Mash, but I'm very unsure of it. Light Metal Bullet Punch seems reasonable, very weak yet STAB, but it can outprioritize most priority moves, so it's a good trade off.
As for White Smoke, outside of having a spammable Overheat, which Torkoal can use too, they don't get much.
Heatmor gains a Curse set, as Superpower no longer reduce it's stats, and Curse doesn't reduce it's speed too. The choice of Flare Blitz or Fire Lash for a stab is yours, if you want to surprise with a Physical Heatmor.
Centiscorch only have Overheat, which can be problematic if you want to use a more physical one (which he is more fit for). While there is no Fire Physical move that also gives down,a Fighting coverage move would still be nice, and the only one that fits that, and his body would be Hammer Arm, as he would be falling on you like an Alolan Exxegutor would. That's about it. A pretty nice Ability.
Nothing much to say about Hyper Cutter, trapping an opponent could give some much needed time to set up. Crawdaunt should be wary with it, as he is weak to U-turn and Volt Switch (but not Flip Turn).
Stall is definitively an appreciated buff for Sableye. Nothing much to add from what as already been said.
I don't know if I'm too early to discuss other potential user, or if it's just not the case. Otherwise, that's about it.
Pokemon: Flygon
Ability Being Modified: Hyper Cutter Stats: 80/100/80/80/80/100 Stat Changes: +5/+5/0/+5/0/+10 New Moves: Quiver Dance Sample Set: Special-oriented (not serious at all, I just have a fantasy about running all those coverage moves left in the bin)
Flygon @ Expert Belt
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: Fast-forward, outside of Attack, might as well max everything
- Quiver Dance
- Heat Wave/Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Draco Meteor
I'm not exactly good in building a nice and clean moveset... But considering what would Hyper Cutter be used for, I think it's a pretty simple set.
Me trying to come up with a Bisharp Light Metal build that isn't too strong, or situationnal Pokemon: Bisharp Ability Being Modified: Light Metal Stats: 65/125/100/60/70/70 -> 70/125/100/60/75/80 (+5 HP/ +5 SpD/ +10 Spe) New Moves: Meteor Mash, Bullet Punch*, U-turn, Liquidation *Move won't be shown here, but should still be in his kit for a Defiant Build
Bisharp @ Leftovers
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Meteor Mash/ Iron Head
- Knock Off
- Psycho Cut/ Liquidation
- U-turn
Fairly straightforward build, following Metagross example, as a faster, but weaker one. While Zen Headbutt is not stabbed (being here for a stronger coverage than Psycho Cut), having access to a tabbed Knock Off on top of a priotiy Meteor Mash, or Iron Head, if you want to have a better flinch chance than Zen Headbutt to pass more physically defensive mons. Psycho Cut here's to pass Fighting, Liquidation can be more useful, in order to pass Ground and Fire type. Having a chance to move out while still dealing damage can be useful (I can't use Flip Turn, as it is locked to water type, and Parting Shot doesn't make any sense, as a Defiant Pawniard/Bisharp would gain more strength from this, and he is still supposed to be some sort of leader).
That's about it. It's definitively more on the offensive side, but surely there's a few people that could think of a defensive one.
Here's the new build, and maybe other if I ever feel like it.
I don’t think buffing Torkoal to make use of White Smoke Shell Smash is really going to work, as its speed is too low, and anything we give it to compensate for that is just going to make Drought better. Turtonator, on the other hand, has a lot of potential. Having no-drawback Shell Smash and obscenely strong dual STAB would take this mediocre mon to new heights, allowing it to use its solid defensive typing to set up and sweep. It’s not without answers though; Offensive Fini 2HKOes with Moonblast to beat any set without Venoshock, Heatran eats dual-STAB and beats any set without Scorching Sands, Seismic Toss Blissey kills it, Specially Defensive Unaware mons wall it, and it’s easily outsped at +2 by Scarfers, Sand Rush Drill, and even max Speed Dragapult, making for an easy revenge kill as long as you don’t let it set up repeatedly. Rapid Spin and Spikes allow it to make good use of hybrid support/Smash sets like it does in lower tiers.
The idea of Heatmor using V-Create is hilarious to me. Its stats are pretty similar to what Victini ends up with after a V-Create, but the lack of a drawback and access to both Agility and Curse as well as different coverage options help to set it apart and give it a niche. Wild Charge is just there for a decent option vs bulky waters.
Pokemon: Centiskorch Ability Being Modified: White Smoke Stats: 100 / 115 / 80 / 90 / 100 / 65 (+15 Def, +10 SpD) New Moves: Slack Off, Superpower, U-Turn
Centiskorch @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: White Smoke
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Overheat
- U-turn / Knock Off
- Slack Off
- Will-O-Wisp
Bulky Fire-types are hard to come by, and buffed Centiskorch fits the bill quite nicely. It’s a solid defensive pivot that can play support or use Coil to clean up late-game. It won’t always use White Smoke over Flame Body or Flash Fire, but being able to spam Overheat is really nice, giving defensive sets some offensive pressure.
Duraludon gets some extra bulk and a pretty big speed buff, as well as setup options to let it better take advantage of Light Metal. Earth Power is extremely good coverage for it, allowing it to hit Electric, Steel, and Fire-types that want to come in on its priority, and making for perfect coverage alongside Steel STAB and Thunder(bolt).
Pokemon: Metagross Ability Being Modified: Light Metal Stats: 80 / 135 / 130 / 100 / 90 / 65 (+5 SpA, -5 Spe) New Moves: Recover, Swords Dance
Metagross @ Leftovers
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake / Zen Headbutt
- Swords Dance
- Recover
Swords Dance Scizor has really fallen off in OU in favour of support, so Metagross is here to take that role for itself. There’s very little to say here, it just sets up a Swords Dance or three and goes to town while being difficult to take down thanks to Recover. It doesn’t have Scizor’s utility though, so it really has to commit to sweeping.
A webs lead that can deal with opposing suicide leads thanks to a combination of Trapping and Rapid Spin. It can also use Mold Breaker for the rare Xatu, but why bother when you can just trap that Xatu on the switch with a Megahorn 2HKO?
Pokemon: Flareon Ability Being Modified: White Smoke Stats: Unchanged Sample Set:
Flareon @ Heavy Duty Boots
Ability: White Smoke
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Curse
- Superpower
- Overheat
- Flare Blitz
Wasn't sure if I could play with the BSTs since it's part of a group. Lmk if I can.
So Flareon definitely still isn't great with this buff, but it definitely gets a lot from it and shows how good the ability is. Curse is now basically Bulk Up, which is good since it's the only boosting move it gets. Superpower is great coverage, letting it hit Rocks/Darks, and it doesn't drop its stats anymore. Overheat lets it go mixed since 95 SpA is still not bad, and it won't be dropping. Flare Blitz is the strongest move.

- Meteor Mash/ Iron Head
- Knock Off
- Psycho Cut/ Liquidation
- U-turn

Voting with 5 or less submitted abilities (FFA Stage 1) / 1 submitted ability (Set Slate Stage 1) / 3 or less submitted Pokemon for an ability(Stage 2): Each submission can be given a "yes" or "no". If 50% or more of the votes on a submission are "yes"'s, the submission is added. No self-votes are permitted in this scenario, though one can abstain from voting on their submission.
So yeah, I'm gonna ask everyone to change their voting posts to adopt this format since every sub falls under this umbrella due to their low quantity. Tapler's Heatmor is disqualified for the V-Create problem and Ema Skye's Flareon is disqualified for causing the same 5 ability problem as Jolteon.
I'm fully aware this is an abysmal start for me and I apologize, this wont happen again god willing
I just think giving Pokemon random legendary signature moves is lame and nonsensical and that some sense of flavor should be kept in mind when designing buffs
Tapler's Turtonator: Yes Tapler's Centiscorch: Yes (I actually like this one)
Light Metal
Tapler's Duraludon: Yes (I'm actually curious...As far as I know, there's not much Special priority moves, outside of Vacuum wave. I like to think this is a nice buff for Steel move, in Light Metal, that is) Tapler's Metagross: Yes My Bisharp ;w;
Hyper Cutter
Tapler's Pinsir: Yes My Flygon
Welp. A bit late, but better than never, they said...
