Hey everyone. I've always wanted to make a team based on a certain trait each pokemon had which usually comes with the synergy between their ability and held item. Other gimmicks include skills and certain pokemon that have movesets others could not. These are the pokemon that I've come up with but I am hoping for some substitutes for certain pokemon lower on the list.
Smeragle @ Focus Sash
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Def / 252 Spd
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Own Tempo
- Baton Pass
- Shell Smash
- Spore
- Magic Coat
Role: Setup
This is a complete rip from the Smogon website. I really like using Smeargle as a lead to buff whomever I Baton Pass to. Smeragle is definitely one of the most unique pokemon ever created all because of sketch, and that's why I added him to this team. How I usually want to start with this guy is Spore, Shell Smash/Magic Coat depending on what I think the team is like, then I Baton Pass over to a suitable sweeper. Focus Sash is there to make sure I get at least one move in. What I am really afraid of is being status locked, making me unable to do anything. Such is the fate of a frail openers. Maybe there is another pokemon with similar attributes that is bulkier and can take the lead on my team.
Absol @ Razor Claw
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Super Luck
- Night Slash
- Psycho Cut
- Superpower
- Sucker Punch
Role: Physical Sweeper
I chose Absol because it's one of the few pokemon to be able to get such a high critical chance. The combination between its ability, held item, and the high critical chance from its attacks make it a very scary opponent in my opinion. I decided not to use Swords Dance because I really wanted to fit both Night Slash and Psycho Cut in the list. However, I am open to suggestions and recommendations on why to use Swords Dance. Another thing about this guy is that it is super frail, like many of the pokemon on my team. But Absol definitely has to stay on my team because it is one of my favorite pokemon. I am looking for maybe something fat to replace those I am willing to replace.
Heracross @ Flame Orb
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Guts
- Megahorn
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Facade
Role: Physical Sweeper
This is another rip from the Smogon website. I really like the interaction between Flame Orb and Guts. This makes him such a nice bulldozer and another option to Baton Pass from Smeargle. For those of you who don't now, burn usually cuts Atk damage in half unless there are special effects in play; namely Guts. I get a bonus to Atk but I take 1/8th of my health each turn (which is a liability) and I have to wait one full turn for the burn to activate. This is one reason why I think Facade could be replaced with Substitute (as the website listed as one suggestion) or maybe a different skill. Let me know what you think.
Ditto @ Choice Scarf
EVs: 252 HP
Nature: Timid
Ability: Impostor
- Transform
Role: Avenger
Credit to voodoo pimp
So apparently I can use this guy the instant I can find someone in Japan willing to trade me one of these bad boys. With Impostor, he immediately becomes a threat without waiting a turn to transform. Choice Scarf (which I meant to use the first time, lol) will let me outrace nearly anything in my way. I recently saw a video on YouTube showing how a guy's Ditto with Impostor took out an opponent's Arceus that Swords Danced four times with one single attack. It's a great revenge killer. However, because of Choice Scarf, I would usually have to switch out for a different pokemon because the attack I take tends to not be very effective against the opponent's next pokemon. A very hit-and-run type deal.
Who is in my team but I want to cut?
Cloyster @ White Herb
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Nature: Naive
Ability: Skill Link
- Shell Smash
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Razor Shell
Role: Physical Sweeper
Cloyster's gimmick is its ability Skill Link. It boosts all multi-hit skills to the max, which Cloyster does with Icicle Spear and Rock Blast. He makes for a great sweeper and makes for a very good Smeargle Baton Pass target for obvious reasons. This guy has seen a lot of play in OU because of this and has had interactions other Baton Passers. Why I want to cut it is because I want to keep my team away from so many similar weaknesses, in this case fighting. Also, he usually gets one guy but the next pokemon the opponent sends out usually kills Cloyster in one hit. This is the first guy I want to replace if I do find suitable replacements.
Serperior @ Life Orb
EVs: 6 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Nature: Modest
Ability: Contrary
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [FIRE]
- Glare
Role: Special Sweeper
Great use of Contrary and Leaf Storm, leading to insane SAtk bonuses quickly. But this guy is only available in DW virtual matches and I really want to find a suitable replacement that I can use in real life. However, this guy does fantastic in fake matches and laughs at opponents who mistakenly try to debuff him. I usually don't Baton Pass into this guy because he is one of my late game pokemon that can steal games. All I do is Leaf Storm and everything is all set. Think about it; a Swords Dance that deals insane amounts of STAB damage. After that I begin to use the best attack to take out whatever pokemon is sent out next. Glare is there to make give some assurance and cripple the opponent. I do have to admit that the special attack pool for Serperior is paltry and if there is a better substitute, I am all ears.
