Team Gimmick

Hey everyone. I've always wanted to make a team based on a certain trait each pokemon had which usually comes with the synergy between their ability and held item. Other gimmicks include skills and certain pokemon that have movesets others could not. These are the pokemon that I've come up with but I am hoping for some substitutes for certain pokemon lower on the list.

Smeragle @ Focus Sash
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Def / 252 Spd
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Own Tempo
- Baton Pass
- Shell Smash
- Spore
- Magic Coat

Role: Setup

This is a complete rip from the Smogon website. I really like using Smeargle as a lead to buff whomever I Baton Pass to. Smeragle is definitely one of the most unique pokemon ever created all because of sketch, and that's why I added him to this team. How I usually want to start with this guy is Spore, Shell Smash/Magic Coat depending on what I think the team is like, then I Baton Pass over to a suitable sweeper. Focus Sash is there to make sure I get at least one move in. What I am really afraid of is being status locked, making me unable to do anything. Such is the fate of a frail openers. Maybe there is another pokemon with similar attributes that is bulkier and can take the lead on my team.

Absol @ Razor Claw
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Super Luck
- Night Slash
- Psycho Cut
- Superpower
- Sucker Punch

Role: Physical Sweeper

I chose Absol because it's one of the few pokemon to be able to get such a high critical chance. The combination between its ability, held item, and the high critical chance from its attacks make it a very scary opponent in my opinion. I decided not to use Swords Dance because I really wanted to fit both Night Slash and Psycho Cut in the list. However, I am open to suggestions and recommendations on why to use Swords Dance. Another thing about this guy is that it is super frail, like many of the pokemon on my team. But Absol definitely has to stay on my team because it is one of my favorite pokemon. I am looking for maybe something fat to replace those I am willing to replace.

Heracross @ Flame Orb
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Guts
- Megahorn
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Facade

Role: Physical Sweeper

This is another rip from the Smogon website. I really like the interaction between Flame Orb and Guts. This makes him such a nice bulldozer and another option to Baton Pass from Smeargle. For those of you who don't now, burn usually cuts Atk damage in half unless there are special effects in play; namely Guts. I get a bonus to Atk but I take 1/8th of my health each turn (which is a liability) and I have to wait one full turn for the burn to activate. This is one reason why I think Facade could be replaced with Substitute (as the website listed as one suggestion) or maybe a different skill. Let me know what you think.

Ditto @ Choice Scarf
EVs: 252 HP
Nature: Timid
Ability: Impostor
- Transform

Role: Avenger

Credit to voodoo pimp
So apparently I can use this guy the instant I can find someone in Japan willing to trade me one of these bad boys. With Impostor, he immediately becomes a threat without waiting a turn to transform. Choice Scarf (which I meant to use the first time, lol) will let me outrace nearly anything in my way. I recently saw a video on YouTube showing how a guy's Ditto with Impostor took out an opponent's Arceus that Swords Danced four times with one single attack. It's a great revenge killer. However, because of Choice Scarf, I would usually have to switch out for a different pokemon because the attack I take tends to not be very effective against the opponent's next pokemon. A very hit-and-run type deal.

Who is in my team but I want to cut?

091.gif
Cloyster @ White Herb
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Nature: Naive
Ability: Skill Link
- Shell Smash
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Razor Shell

Role: Physical Sweeper

Cloyster's gimmick is its ability Skill Link. It boosts all multi-hit skills to the max, which Cloyster does with Icicle Spear and Rock Blast. He makes for a great sweeper and makes for a very good Smeargle Baton Pass target for obvious reasons. This guy has seen a lot of play in OU because of this and has had interactions other Baton Passers. Why I want to cut it is because I want to keep my team away from so many similar weaknesses, in this case fighting. Also, he usually gets one guy but the next pokemon the opponent sends out usually kills Cloyster in one hit. This is the first guy I want to replace if I do find suitable replacements.

Serperior @ Life Orb
EVs: 6 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Nature: Modest
Ability: Contrary
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [FIRE]
- Glare

Role: Special Sweeper

Great use of Contrary and Leaf Storm, leading to insane SAtk bonuses quickly. But this guy is only available in DW virtual matches and I really want to find a suitable replacement that I can use in real life. However, this guy does fantastic in fake matches and laughs at opponents who mistakenly try to debuff him. I usually don't Baton Pass into this guy because he is one of my late game pokemon that can steal games. All I do is Leaf Storm and everything is all set. Think about it; a Swords Dance that deals insane amounts of STAB damage. After that I begin to use the best attack to take out whatever pokemon is sent out next. Glare is there to make give some assurance and cripple the opponent. I do have to admit that the special attack pool for Serperior is paltry and if there is a better substitute, I am all ears.

I'm not an expert on single battles, but I just thought I'd let you know that Imposter Ditto is in fact released (it's obtainable in-game in BW2), so you can use that on your team if you want. You may want to try Scarf instead of Band, though, so you don't have to hope you win the speed tie every time it comes in.

Thanks, man. That's one worry down.

This isn't even a full team. This is the Rate My Team forum, not Build My Team. It's already going to be frowned upon that you want dedicated raters to go over a gimmick team, but one that's not even finished is a little insulting. Besides this, you also need to expand your descriptions by a lot. Tell us what the team is supposed to do, how it does that, why you chose each pokemon, etc.

Required Reading for RMT posters.

Sorry about that. I've made adjustments accordingly. However...

How so exactly? I thought all teams would be accepted on the Others forum (minus in-game teams and non-competitive gimmick teams) and...

Tell us what the team is supposed to do, how it does that, why you chose each pokemon, etc.

Each pokemon has a certain gimmick that I outlined. I noted that they use combinations between their abilities, held items, and attacks. What more is it you want?

You can come up with better descriptions than that. Look at any popular RMT and you'll see how much work actually goes into it.

EDIT: Furthermore, the "Other" tag is all-inclusive, but is usually used for in-game teams or teams for separate metagames that don't have individual tags. Nobody can really rate a gimmick team with very serious or helpful advice. This is especially true with yours because you don't specify where you're actually going to use this team. Hell, most of these sets aren't even really gimmicks.

Alright I added more details to my list. Also I want to take this team to take on OU teams, specifically weather teams.

Then you should have gave it the OU tag. This would've gotten it almost immediately locked though, so I see why you didn't.

Seriously, man? I read what you posted and the link too. I've made adjustments according to that and I'm trying to make a better thread. Why are you still so bent on insulting me?

Yes, you have improved this RMT from what it was. But you still have 2 team members that you already admitted you want off the team. Again, this is a RATE my team section, not REMAKE/FIX my team. If you want to cut two members, then cut them and look for members that fit your team. A proper RMT is one that has been tested and remade to the extent of the player's abilities after all. I'm still not sure what tier or metagame this is for either (it is supposed to be Dream World OU?). Chaotica isn't trying to insult you, he's just pointing out the obvious: you need to work on your team considerably in order for you to be able to use these gimmicks together to form a cohesive whole. A RMT like what you had before would most likely have been locked, and even with the substantial improvements there is a lot of room for improvement. I give you a lot of props for trying to make a team with gimmick sets, but even gimmicks have to have a standard (plus, most of these sets aren't that gimmicky). I'm going to assume that you're playing this team in Dream World OU (otherwise Contrary Serperior is illegal), so this probably should be moved there.

Noted. I'll find a replacement for Cloyster, test the team, then make a new thread in OU Dreamworld. Thanks for the help.

I wasn't insulting you, I was telling you the truth. If you had posted this team in the OU RMT forum it would have been locked almost immediately. I appreciate the fact that you're actually trying to make it better though, and apologize if I came off sounding like a dick. Might I suggest a Gothitelle set over Cloyster?

Gothitelle @ Leftovers
Ability: Shadow Tag
Sassy Nature
IV's: 0 Spe
EV's: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
-Trick Room
-Taunt
-Toxic
-Psychic

Gothitelle comes in on anything it can easily set up on, uses Trick Room, KO's the trapped Pokemon, and can then use Toxic or Taunt on whatever comes in next (or switch to a different 'mon). Of course, other Trick Room abusing Pokemon would help this out. Since you're already planning on switching out Serperior, how about using a Rampardos?

Rampardos @ Life Orb
Ability: Mold Breaker
Brave Nature
IV's: 0 Spe
EV's: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
-Head Smash
-Earthquake
-Fire Punch
-Substitute

Go ahead and abuse one of the most powerful Trick Room sweepers in the entire game. STAB Head Smash coming off of a base 160 Atk destroys almost everything, and you have as little speed as possible to be fast in Trick Room. How's that for gimmicky?
