Metagame SV OU Metagame Discussion v4

extremely questionable scenario since if you tera steel, clodsire now 2hkos you with earthquake. and if you come in on blisseys twave or seismic toss its also tilts the matchup. i always run some defense on clod for this and psyshock, and id just spam earthquake into it
It happens a lot more than you think, but yeah clodsire is definetely not the best matchup for keldeo, but it is still winnable. You just need to position it correctly and keep keldeo at decently good health. I find that players are extremely scared by keldeo and just end up using toxic to not let in pelliper to get a free u-turn off. Plus, if you combine it with arch, which also is countered by clod, you can overwhelm it.

Neat little piece of trivia: with Toxapex's drop to UU, only 10 mons have been OU by usage every month of SV.

:corviknight: Corviknight
:dondozo: Dondozo
:dragapult: Dragapult
:dragonite: Dragonite
:gholdengo: Gholdengo
:glimmora: Glimmora
:great tusk: Great Tusk
:iron valiant: Iron Valiant
:kingambit: Kingambit
:ting lu: Ting-Lu

Five Pokemon have only missed two months or less:

1 month missed
:toxapex: Toxapex - fell to UU 2/24
:hatterene: Hatterene - dropped to UU with the inital tier shifts, rose the following month and has been OU since

2 months missed
:iron moth: Iron Moth - fell to UU 1/24 and stayed this month (4.020% usage)
:cinderace: Cinderace - released 12/29/22 missed its first OU cutoff but didn't drop to UU and has been OU since
:roaring moon: Roaring Moon - fell to UU 9/23 and returned the following month, banned in late October '23 and was unbanned in December with the release of DLC2

My favorite OU Pokemon continuing to do great numbers in OU - Archaludon is still underexplored, and I highly encourage people to try more than just the rain AV or SpDef Utility sets. PhysDef with Dragon Tail, Light Screen, Body Press, Protect, and Leftovers is still my favorite variant.
Arch is 100% underexplored and this post is a good time to mention the fucking Focus Energy set on Rain that I ran into and started my lose streak while attempted reqs lmfao. This mon can do a lot and it's cool to see the wild ass sets some people have come up with him. Although my opinion on him is starting to shift slightly, but I'm not sure if it's for better or for worse. I'm starting to see why people are worried about him, at least.

Corv is dogshit, all the people who run it are delusional copers

>BUT GHOLDENGO BAD NOW
>BUT ID BP
>BUT U-TURN
>BUT SPEDEF

I will not hear any of you out and if you play with this thing you're essentially 5v6 with a cheerleader

And btw, offensive corviknight sets are not good anymore because skarm has sd so it makes it better

Now give me hahas

Power trip corv is the best thing ever, you feel so powerful when you get a sweep or semi-sweep. On my gimmick sets, it was really good.

Did you sweep a mid team from the OU ladder on the night of the 25th?
YOU ARE GOING TO DIE!
I am going to kill you. I will spend the rest of my life tracking you down. I will find you. You will never sleep again. God will not save you. I am coming for you.

The distribution of Power Trip has always been baffling to me. It mostly given to Scary Dark Types like Krookodile and Pangoro but also a couple of random-ass birds.
Does GF know something we don’t?
Power Trip: original name つけあがる(付け上がる):to abuse someone's generosity or friendliness, usually with an arrogant attitude; to take an arrogant attitude (roughly).
Aside from typical Dark types and some thuggish mons (Zangoose), the only other mons that have traditionally gotten it are only Empoleon and Corviknight. So it's mostly "thuggish" mons, "selfish and demanding" mons (Morpeko) and "high-and-mighty" mons (Empoleon and Corv).

What do I have to do to make King Gambit go away? Even when not being the biggest headache in the game he manages to make my day worse. I can't do this anymore I'm going to tera ghost Moushold into encore suckerpunch for the rest of my life.

Encore is amazing into gambit, as late game they will be forced to use it and you can stall it out. Tusk is great against it, though pressuring the opposing team to tera early is great if they have a gambit. Opposing priority is also great against it, as they will be forced to use kowtow if they don't want to be ko'd. Something like barra aqua jet can be great if you have mystic water on it, as I have in the past, to then click cc when they think I will just aqua jet again.

Playing around late game gambit is a pain, sometimes it will just win, you have to outplay the opponent and force them into situations where they have no choice but to use resources that would help their gambit late game (i.e. tera).

Edit: Valiant is great into gambit, as it quad resists sucker punch and can ko it with cc, if they don't tera. Lesson of the day: Gambit tera'ing is a pain in the ass.

Okay, I just realized the angry emote was not a red angry qwilfish as I thought, but an angry primape, which makes way more sense.

I am dumb.

Shit I'm only realizing too thx for pointing out.

Anyhoo, tier shifts huh? We love our tiers and we like them shifting. How we feel on RBolt on number 3? Seems a bit higher than expected, is it that splashable? Gliscor number 6 is still midway through his speedrun of becoming GSC Snorlax.

Also glad to see Treads back, one of my fav mons. What niche does it have over Tusk on weather? I don't really understand the point you're all here making.

The reason why I thought it was qwilfish was because the fur spikes I thought were quills and primapes nose/mouth was qwilfish's mouth. It is easier to see primeape up close but smaller it is harder to see the details.

Treads is used on rain and sun because it can sit on raging bolt and is also quite fast. It also helps against kyurem, which is a big counter to rain, so any help is appreciated in that department.

This is about the most frustrating thing for me personally. I have to play roulette with the Gambit if they saved their tera (as they often do) and then play "is it flying? fairy? fucking bug for some reason?" and either lose or guess correctly. Especially when most Encore mons have to be played highly carefully...

Unrelated to the first half so this isn't a one liner but huh? what. where am i

So all this talk about dealing with Kingambit had me thinking of a few possible way to make the Gambit problem even worse. You know, for science. And because I want to watch the world burn.

First, did you know the thing gets Metal Burst? A priority move that could get past Sucker Punch would just get blasted back. And because it doesn't die in one hit to most things, it can get a kill and still be prime for a Sucker Punch war. I don't know how useful this is in OU, but I tried it a little on another account in UUbers and it actually did work. What does that mean for OU? Eh. People probably would have teched it already if it was that good. It could at least probably catch some players off guard. That's all that's needed. Just another thing to make players think twice about it.

The second is Trick Room. Trick Room isn't good right now. Or often. But if you could suicide a setter into the King to get a power boost, there is potential there to be nasty as like your second or third TR sweeper option. And it can still function outside of Trick Room.

The third way I thought of is Hisuian Zoroark. I have not personally seen anyone use this thing in OU in the longest time. But think about it. You have a fighting immunity that can disguise as the 4x weak Kingambit. The speed tiers are totally different. You might think it is a slower Kingambit and then get hit by a 110 base speed mon. You aren't safe if you get Gambit because it can still Sucker. (Or maybe even Metal Burst. Lol.) In theory, you could do so many things with this whacky combo.

What we need is a bunch of people to put our heads together and figure out how to make Kingambit as evil and insufferable as possible. Either you are pro Gambit and would find this appealing or you are pro ban and want more justification.

Hisuian Zoroark is not good at disguising at Gambit because Supreme Overlord has a message that pops up when Kingambit is sent out (after a Pokemon has been KO'd). However, this message won't pop up for Hisuian Zoroark, so it won't actually lure anything vs a competent player.

Granted, people still fell for this back in the day, so there is a good chance that people won't pay attention to these details, but it is something to be wary of that'll easily give away the bluff.
