Stoo your Sig is hilarious.

And hellz yeah, I love how no one is touching a lot of my mains, Peach being a particular and Zamus being another.

When I do get it, I wanna try SOnic, Pikachu and PT. They any good?
Pikachu is freaking awesome, he/she/it doesn't get nearly enough respect. I've heard varying things on sonic, mostly his crazy speed and lack of priority. PT is naturally a mixed bag.

Sonic isn't to good. He lacks a lot of reliable killing moves and most of his attacks don't do much in the ways of damage. He's kinda hard to control.

Actually Toon Link is a good counter for Ike, but I just know how to get around it.

Really...? Darn. Maybe I'll watch some gameplay videos and try again later. My problem with TL is that I have yet to find a reliable kill move. I have no idea how to do that two-hit thing that I do sometimes, and his Dair is too predictable. also, your Ike strategies are really good. I recently started using Aether a lot more, and it's working wonders.

On the plus side, I recently learned how to tilt. Now I just need to learn to do it consistently, because Ike's side tilt is really good.

fix'd

I think the reason pika isn't widely recognized is that none of the original melee pros who got brawl early ever really took on pika. I mean, we heard good things about it, of course, mainly the thunder and dsmash buffs, seeing as they obviously tried all the chars, but it took until after the USA release for the QAC to be brought to the attention of the public, which is really a defining feature of pika's game, imo. Pika has arguably one of the best approaches in the game because of it, and it's also huge for comboing and getting off quick thunders before they fall too low to be killed by it, for when they DI a good distance away from you after an up or down smash. And then with stuff like the reverse thunder being discovered for edgeguarding, pika is certainly evolving into quite the beast. Also, pika's thundershock was never really recognized for being as spammable as it is - imo it's better than lucas's pk fire, which is one of the main things people talk about when they mention lucas being so good, simply due to how much DI you can get in the air when you full jump or short hop it [the thundershock], making it great both for an approach and a retreat (it also gimps a bunch of characters' recoveries). And then the fair is also a very nice fast high priority combo/approach move, as well. Pika has some pretty mean combos, chiefly thanks to the incredibleness of the dsmash and thunder, and I've already pulled a couple 0-deaths with him. Pika's short hop is actually pretty short, more like melee short hops as opposed to brawl short hops, and he has good running speed. So yeah, pretty much what makes pika good right there. I don't know how well he'll rank compared to beasts like TL, olimar, or pit, but he's at worst high tier material.

As for the others... PT is actually pretty good. Squirtle is amazing, with great combo ability, speed, and kill potential. Charizard is surprisingly fast, has great power, and is in general a tank with good combos. Ivy is probably the worst of the three, but killing with usmash at 60% is sweet. Overall, PT would make a solid choice for a main, but it would require you to learn 2-3 characters at once, which you may or may not want to do.

Sonic... depends. He's got insane speed, which you'll absolutely need, due to his poor priority. He can combo, and he does have ways to kill. But whether he'll be the new falcon or a total wash... we'll have to wait and see.

Sorry the others aren't nearly as indepth as what I said about pika, but I main pika. I don't even play either of the others (although I'll probably pick up PT later down the line).

@cooper: Projectiles. Projectiles. Projectiles. And TL's fair is a nice kill move, and it ends in the air if you do it right. Fsmash, too. Not sure how much start up the fsmash has, but you should be able to get it off after a laggy attack by ike regardless. Also, dash canceled dsmashes are nice (run toward your foe, let go of forward and tap shield, and you should continue your forward momentum, but you'll be able to do anything out of it).

Yeah, I know about the projectiles. I need more boomerang control, but my problem with arrows is that they're predictable and somewhat hard to fire off in time to hit anything. Can you suggest a good path of action to take when my opponents are coming at me from the air? Because that's what they do when they try to dodge arrows.

But I never thought of the shield thing. That's definitely something for me to try out. And I'll work on my air attacks too.

Reading over everything I just wrote makes me seem like a huge noob. I'm really not as bad as I sound, guys.

Well Round 2 of the GameStop tournament was today. The directions I was given blew ass so I walked in the door at like 1:59 and they were going to start at 2:00 with or without me. I actually got in on luck, I saw some shopping center which was massive so I took a guess that it was there and I found it but parking was horrendous and I had to park on the total opposite side of the GameStop. Walked in handed the guy my certificate and got started. Take note I left at 12:00, and the directions were so bad I spent 2 hours to get to a place that should take only 45 minutes. I almost gave up because most of the time I had no idea where I was going.

Same rules as before, Battlefield, no items, tournament mode, but this time 3 minutes instead of 1. They set up tournament mode I picked Dedede as usual and the tournament got under-nope they fucked up and put all CPUs so no one got to fight.

They redo it and the guy discovers you can drop spots out and give people byes instead of having them fight CPUs, so because we only had 14 people 2 people would get byes.

Round 1 was intense and people had some varied picks, and one guy completely dominated with Ivysaur and another with Olimar.

Round 1: Me (Dedede) vs Mario
The match was a ton of me, while close, he never really had a chance to KO me, I got an early KO and started to play defensively. With about 30 seconds to go he goes into panic mode while I sit back and let him come to me (sitting there at about 220%). He does end up getting a KO due to me misplaying a Bair and its all tied up. I have a chance to KO him since he was rather high but I couldn't get set up. We go to sudden death and my first Waddle Dee hits his shield, so I throw another and he dies. Win

He was a really cool guy and we end up swapping phone numbers so we can exchange friend codes later on.

The next round I would have to play a guy who got a bye, so I had no idea what he was going to do and how he was going to play. The second problem is, he was Pit, and while I was practicing with my brother earlier today I found out Dedede matches up really badly with Pit and even against my brother who never played Brawl I ended up getting my ass kicked. Spamming Side-B gives DDD no chance of doing anything and racks up the damage quickly.

Round 2: Me (Dedede) vs Pit
Right off the bat he spams like 3 arrows and I counter with some Waddle Dees so I don't get hurt, he then chases me down and starts spamming Side-B but I get out of the way without taking too much damage. He comes back and spams Side-B again and once again I have to get away. I start playing super defensively but then he starts spamming arrows. It was basically that for about 2 minutes. I end up getting to about 180% with a minute to go and he is at 120%, easy KOs for both of us. I chain grab him to the side of the stage and he falls off and does Up-B, I jump with him and end up missing a Fair and he lands first so I try a Dair but he dodges and hits me with a Side Smash and I get KOed. I go into overdrive not caring about my %, I'll win Sudden Death so I just need a KO I hit a couple Bairs and comes right back from near KO, so I try it again while hes doing his Up+B but somehow he hits me, we land and he spams Side+B but I get a Bair in and with about 2 seconds to go he is flying in the air, the timer hits TIME and the flash from a KO comes up. I get ready to throw a Waddle Dee but Pit's victory music starts playing and I was upset. I just got gayed out of Sudden Death and a victory by someone who spams two moves. Lost =[

The guy goes on to round 3 vs the good Ivysaur player and does the same shit, Spam Arrows and Side-B and gets about 3 KOs. Ivysaur player and the rest of the competitors were visibly shook up, the Ivysaur player just dominated the previous round.

The finals end up with Pit vs the great Olimar player, the guy figured out by watching the Pit matches that all hes going to do is spam Arrows and Side-B, which he does. Olimar plays great and with about 20 seconds to go is winning. Pit player gets a KO so it goes to sudden death. Olimar does something but misses Pit and Pit hits for a KO. Olimar player was pissed, hes cursing to himself and Pit player starts getting cocky, "none ya'll can beat me suckas." Everyone is pissed this guy just gayed his way through the brackets with a bye and spamming 2 moves and then he goes and acts like a total douchebag. He goes and gets his Karate Trophy and everyone just walks out silent, Olimar player its on a bench and talks to a friend of his, "I wouldn't be pissed if I lost to someone with class and could actually press more than 2 buttons." Couldn't have said it better myself.

my mains are Peach and Lucario, i just wish Peach hit a little harder.

I've heard people complain about Peaches lack of kill moves (melee + brawl) and tbh I don't understand it...At ~100% she can easily fair/nair/dsmash/dtilt/bair someone off the stage and, if you know how to effectively, swoops in with an auto float at the right height for a nair/bair/fair if they're recovering with something slow like falcon dive/fire fox

And then +~20% and these moves can kill (and now uair and usmash are useful for killing too). Also almost all of her attacks are amazing for comboing, knocking the opponent the perfect distance for something something like her amazing dash attack or a FCed fair if you're speedy (though i'm not). Moves like the ftilt, jabs, dtilt, Auto float nair/fair, all of them knock them in the perect direction IMO

Wow Zerowing, that sucks hardcore. I would have congratulated that Olimar player though. He should have won, and you should have gone to a sudden death.

Holy shit zerowing, that totally sucks D:

Any other 2nd round stories from those of you got through?

EDIT: In sudden death get smart with turnips and nair them when you see an opening

"I wouldn't be pissed if I lost to someone with class and could actually press more than 2 buttons." Couldn't have said it better myself.

good, im glad that asshole won. you cocky guys think you need to use "more than 2 buttons" to be good, well you and everyone just got your ass kicked by that guy. good job. clearly youre the better player.

Yes, because timed matches and sudden death are such a great test of skill! That pit just got lucky. Very, very lucky. The pit sucked, and did nothing but camp out the timer. He wasn't good at playing the game. The only "skill" he had was that to spam arrows and sideB to keep the foe away long enough for the timer to run out. He wasn't skillful in making combos. He wasn't skillful in getting kills. He just knew how to prolong a match. When you combine that with the bye and just barely not getting killed due to the timer, you've got a recipe for a very gay win.

These "official" tourneys are a joke. They don't actually test your skill at playing smash bros. If they did, the pit player would not have won.

RARGH RARGH RARGH I FUCKING HATE FINAL SMASHES.

Epic won in our matches 2-1, in the final round he got fucking 3 smash balls. Very close and very intense matches (save that fucking final one), I look forward to playing you in non-item games Epic, hopefully they'll be just as intense.

I hope you are being sarcastic... button mashing does not equal skill

Well button mashers can be good at times, i may suck at Smash Bros but in better fighting games where i'm good i have been defeated by button mashers, after all winning is what matters i guess.

In my case it is to have fun, i believe everyone should develop their own style at playing and not copy what others do or say it's "the game".

Ike button (C stick) mashers are annoying on free for all btw :s.
