Super Smash Brothers Brawl Discussion #3

Sonic isn't a bad character. You just have to learn how to start comboing/gimping with him, which is different play from relying on smashes for the next kill.

there should be a dot in the middle of the maze you need to go to once you've done everything, otherwise make sure you clear all the dots.

Anyone find it funny that the last level is basicly the entire game over again? It's like they did a think tank on how frustrate gamers as much as possible, and this was the winner.

You do realize the guy who created the Kirby games was integral to Brawl, and that Kirby refights the bosses again in many games, right? It's kind of like Megaman X series in some respects.

I'm aware deck knight, the key difference is that the one player of kirby was way more fun, it was actually cool to replay them all (boss rush in nightmare in dreamland is awesome, and iirc the second gb one you had to play all the bosses in a row before getting to dedede)

can't wait darkwarcloud, I wanna see someone do ganon justice. He's a beast, but I can't get the hang of him.

After playing a lot more, I changed up my 3 mains:
1. Lucario: I like spamming Aura Spheres, and he has decent speed and attack, and Focus Palm is pretty good, along with double team, fits me pretty well.

2.Falco: All around good, hes fast and has okay strength. and he has lasers.

3.Ike: Really strong, and has okay speed, if only his recovery didn't suck ass.

Since it seems to be a fad right now...

Main: Pikachu
Secondary: Lucas, probably

I was initially going to main lucas, but when I was trying out other characters pika just fit my playstyle all too perfectly. He's got decent speed, a good approach (gogo fair and thundershock spam), his combos are awesome (gotten a couple 0-deaths so far, although to be fair they were more like 0-60 or 70 and then a slight pause while I go for another approach and then a combo to death), and then between a more spammable thundershock, an amazing thunder, and a much improved dsmash (this needed a buff? whatever I'll take it!), he was turning out to be a sweet char even before I knew about the QAC, which just gives him even more rape approach and combo potential. Wow, that was a long sentence... lol Anyway, I used to use pika for a low tier in melee, but never got particularly good with him. He's changed a lot since his melee form, though, and definitely for the better. I was a little disappointed on the nerfs to the up and forward smashes, but eh, you can't win them all. The usmash is still a good move, and so is the forward smash, it's just been given effectively less range, since the sweetspot is now right next to pika, rather than at the attack's farthest range.

As predicted, fox's new floatiness and his several changes have made it hard for me to play with him, but whatever. I mentioned lucas, but I'm not entirely sure if I'll even play him at all anymore. I still have a lot of chars to unlock (I've only got falco, marth, luigi, and ness, and have been playing wifi most of the time), so I may end up picking up a completely different second, or even changing my main later, although that's unlikely.

Oh, btw, not sure if you guys have seen this yet. I couldn't be bothered to read past the last few pages.

What appears to be the new form of L-canceling
http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=152305

The beginning of the thread has some misinformation in it, but it eventually gets to the point. Basically (if I understand correctly) it's just doing those moves really early in the jump, so that they end before you hit the ground, even stuff that you wouldn't think was possible, like ganon's or pika's dair. This should open up all kinds of new combo options, as before everyone had been executing moves after the apex of their short hop, and only a few moves auto-cancel that way. Using this method to execute moves would also allow people to use the moves that auto-cancel when used after the apex even faster, since now they would be able to fast fall them and still get the auto-cancel. Should be interesting, at least.

Are there any ways to be good at Peach? I tried using her to her best, but she changed so much from Melee! ;_; All I know is that her Love Explosion is stronger and faster than in Melee and that she attacks faster, but her Smash down A attack and second jump are much worse. She also floats shorter distances...

What should I do to be good with her?

You can pretty much use peach the same way a good player used Peach in Melee. You just can't spam dsmash as much, and don't try to float cancel.

Regarding the new L cancel thing, I could see that being useful, but I doubt it'll really replace the gameplay aspect that L cancelling made. The main problem would be that executing an aerial too early into your jump greatly decreases the chance you have to actually hit an opponent with it, making combos more difficult. Then again I never played high-level Melee so my opinion might not be all that valid. It doesn't reduce landing lag from a fastfall after special fall, either since you obviously can't attack after a special fall.

Pretty sure my Toon Link maining will be coming to an end soon, and least when I fight Ike. After losing to Wolt several times in embarrassing fashions, I realize TL has no way to finish an opponent who has a larger attack perimeter (i.e having a longer weapon). Looks like I'm currently using Ike as my only main....

I figured out how to assign controls. I have to use the nam the controls are registered under.

I've noticed this too: falco was my main in melee and I can barely play as him now, I hate the moveset change too (ok the fair is good for comboing but... that's it)

I knew they'd nerf the spike but not that much =[

I've been playing around with Snake for a bit and he's really good... against some characters. Sometimes I end up winning 3-0 and others I get comboed to death.

I'm actually pretty find with most of the changes. His neutral A is badass now and I actually like his Side A as much if not more than his old. The spike has been nerfed, but I believe you just have to time the spike to hit the opponent exactly at the beginning of the move. It's a lot harder to do with Falco being floatier though. And they nerfed his recovery D:

yeah I knew how to get it to spike, but it's really hard to do. you can't short hop and spike right as they're approaching the edge now either, it's too floaty

nair doesn't kill either. shame as that was a good killing move

Actually Toon Link is a good counter for Ike, but I just know how to get around it.

Your welcome by the way.
