Super Smash Bros. Brawl Discussion #2 (spoilers)

Wait a sec, I realised before but forgot about it. Why was there no 'WARNING: CHALLENGER APPROACHING!' tag before it? I mean, we all knew he was going to be in the game but he is a new character and all =\

But yeah Snake looks pretty cool, and his recovery move looks really really useful.

He only does it for characters that either weren't in the old game or not revealed yet. Meta Knight didn't get one either.

Sonuis, problem here is that he said Snake would be unlockable but he revealed him. I'm assuming it's because he already revealed him in the trailer so there was no point in keeping it "hidden". I'm hoping for no unlockables revealed. It'll be cool to go through the game and unlock 'em =) I assume Jigglypuff will be first.

Oh, of course this song will be played on a stage with a Metal Gear Solid motif. So you can look forward to that, too.

I don't really know my MGS. Anyone care to guess what this stage might be?

Watch this video and you will see Snakes stage at around 1:20 for a split second, which happens to be Shadow Moses which is from Metal Gear Solid (1). Shadow Moses is a remote island located in Alaska and the location of the game (MGS1).

And I don't recall if Sakurai revealed the Mario Circuit level, so thats something to look forward to.

Oddly it looks more like a race to the finish stage than anything. But this is coming from someone who has never played a MGS game, so w/e.

Oh that is sweet. I'm gonna buy a Wii just for this game. Every day it just gets better. And Piplup is in this game. Awesome.

Yea, I was a little confused because I was under the impression that Snake would be unlockable...and that that was the reason Snake had no character profile.

But oh well, it's probably due to the fact that he was in the E3 Brawl vid. The site may still update with new characters that will be available from the start though.

That sounds like a lie. Source please, with link.

While I unfortunately can't back it up (no time+ I'm lazy, forgive me) I can vouch for Firestorm regarding Sakurai saying that he would be unlockable, along with any other third-party characters (Actually I'm not sure about the other third-parties because my memory sucks, but Sakurai DID for sure say that he thinks Snake is a "sneaky" character, and as such should be unlocked).

Edit: haha Firestorms quotes raped my memory, I fucking suck

Smash Bros. Dojo. Japanese site. Sakurai's replies to Japanese e-mails and such. Translation by SamuraiPanda.

Summary said:
#251-260: Sakurai will make Snake (and all other guest, i.e. 3rd party, characters) into an unlockable character. Sakurai will also eventually reveal all the secret characters (most likely what he did when melee was released: give details on a single starting character every week until release, then after release, give details on one secret character every week until they've all been done).

Exact Translation said:
Sakurai in response to an email asking that everything be unlocked as a default = "Well... that is a tough question. As long as the internet exists, all secrets will be revealed quickly. Sometimes even before the game comes out, even. Secret characters are one of the fun parts of Smash. Although you don't want to find out until the very end, I guess [literally: 'after all,' so there is no doubt in this statement] I'll reveal them. Again, just like "Smash fist" [literally: 'Sumabura ken,' the name of the Japanese SSBM site?] I can't just hold these characters back. "

The rest isn't too important. Except the last sentence. Sakurai says that having Snake as a hidden character rather than be part of the starting line-up is more fitting for a guest character.

I really wouldn't want them to be revealed too soon, i would like to see them by myself :s.

There was no point to hold Snake though, since was the very first hype the game had at the first video.

Yeah...personally I'd like to know HOW to unlock everything but not knowing WHAT exactly I'd be unlocking.

However, it seems to me that most, if not all of the characters (excluding Snake) seem to fit as characters available when you first boot the game up. But maybe that's just me.

I think it'll be the same situation as with Melee: Sakurai will reveal all of the "right from the get-go" characters, and after the game is released he'll start profiling unlockables. Since this game is going to be one of Wii's flagship titles, I doubt Sakurai is going to spoil any of it for us.

Next month's Nintendo Power (November issue, will reach subscribers in the last week of October) will have Brawl info

Nintendo Power brings you the first hands-on preview of the Wii game every Nintendo fan has been aching to play-Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Let the havoc begin!

I kinda wish I worked for Nintendo Power right now. O: But I doubt they'll give us any new info at all.

You wish you were going to be out of a job in a month or two? =P

I just resubscribed to NP with National Pokedex as my free gift. Too bad they stopped the 12 issues for $15 CAD ($12 USD) offer.

I decided to do a little hunting into Snake's other take in a Super Smash Bros type game and I came across a Japan only DreamMix TV World Fighters.

You can see a video of Snake fighting here. While DreamMix TV is very different from Smash it has quite a few similarities with Snake's fighting style in the Nintendo World video. It also shows how Snake's stage could possibly works (the stage in the video is from MGS2) with an attacking helicopter (Hind in MGS) which could interfere like Bullet Bill in SSBM.

For some reason I can't wait to hear the ! sound in Brawl.

Hmm, for some reason I can't see certain of the characters as playable from the start, for example, Pokémon Trainer/Ike. I just need them to reveal Jigglypuff, then I'm happy. That ought to be like the first secret character update after Luigi, right?

The hype for this game is really starting to get to me...In a good way, that is.

I keep imagining the "Warning! Challenger Approaching!" screens popping up, the awesome cutscenes, the Pokeball Pokemon, and tons of other stuff.

I'm definitely going to orgasm if I see Ridley pop up as a challenger.

I hope we get another character this week (one from my personal list hopefully). I curious as to what Captain Falcon's new look is going to be though.

I don't understand what you all mean as "secret characters," "unrevealed characters," and "already unlocked characters." What does this mean by like.. a list of being revealed?

With that said, Snake looks awesome in this game and I can't wait to use him. I want to see more Zelda/Sheik info though!

You can get character by doing specific tasks in the game. Like how you got Marth and Jigglypuff in Melee. That's what we mean by unlockable character. By already unlocked character, I think people are referring to character you get at the start of the game.
