XY OU Rate my Sandstorm Team!

Hi there Smogon. Here's an idea for a cartridge team that I've been wanting to build for a while utilising Mega Garchomp. After some thought, it turned into a Sandstorm team. Comments and constructive criticism are appreciated!

Tyranitar @ Smooth Rock (Will that work for Sand Stream? I'm not sure.)
Sand Stream
Naughty (+Atk, -Sp.Def)
252 HP, 252 Atk, 4 Def
Pursuit
Dragon Tail
Stone Edge
Stealth Rock

A reasonably simple lead set. SR is obvious. Pursuit for those who are forced out by T-tar's presence. Dragon Tail for shuffling, and Stone Edge for a good STAB.

Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Sturdy
Impish (+Def, -Sp.Atk)
252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Sp.Def
Roost
Whirlwind
Brave Bird
Defog

Skarmory is my Physical Wall. I love it. Roost to heal off residual damage from walling the Physical attacks, Whirlwind to prevent setup sweepers setting up, Brave Bird so that it's not complete Taunt bait, and Defog because I don't have a Rapid Spinner. And the Rocky Helmet is so the Physical sweepers get damaged when they attack.

Lapras @ Assault Vest
Water Absorb
Modest (+Sp.Atk/-Atk)
4 HP, 252 Sp.Atk, 252 Sp.Def
Hyro Pump
Thunderbolt
Freeze Dry
Ice Shard

Lapras is both my Special Wall and Special Attacker. And he's great at both. He has the infamous BoltBeam combination in Thunderbolt and Freeze Dry which is also good.

Sylveon @ Leftovers
Pixilate
Calm (+Sp.Def, -Atk)
252 HP, 16 Sp. Atk, 240 Sp. Def
Hyper Voice
Wish
Protect
Heal Bell

Sylveon fills the role of Cleric on my team. So, Wish, Heal Bell, Protect to let Sylveon take the Wish if needed, and Hyper Voice, has been chosen to help offset the damage from Sandstorm

Lucario @ Life Orb
Justified
Adamant (+Atk/-Sp.Atk)
252 Atk, 4 Def, 252 Spe
Close Combat
Swords Dance
Extreme Speed
Iron Tail

OK, so a good Setup Physical Sweeper here. Nothing particularly surprising. Close Combat for a good STAB, SD (after this everything gets near enough OHKOed), Extreme Speed for priority, and Iron Tail to hit Fairies.

Mega Garchomp @ Garchompite
Sand Force
Naughty (+Atk/-Sp. Def)
252 Atk, 16 Sp.Atk, 240 Spe
Earthquake
Dragon Claw
Fire Blast
Stone Edge

Mega Garchomp is an interesting Pokémon. When it Mega Evolves, it sacrifices 10 BP in Speed for more bulk and attacking capabilities. Now people don't seem to value it as much as regular Garchomp. Particularly the people at Serebii. Anyways, I think that Mega Chomp is an amazing late-game wallbreaker. He just has the raw power to demolish an opposing team at the end of the game. His moves and EVs are simply picked to allow him to do this. I considered swapping Stone Edge with Swords Dance, but eventually decided that Mega Chomp already has enough Attack. SD would be a little overkill.

Thanks for reading, and if you have any questions, comment or suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments section below. I will try and get back to you as soon as possible.

Hello! Just want to let you know that only complete teams are allowed on this forum (here are the RMT Rules so you can read up on them!). If you need help finding a sixth member, you can check out the SQSA for OU and get help from there. Good luck! =)
Otherwise, here's some suggestions:
  • For Lucario, I would probably choose Iron Tail over Ice Punch. This is because Iron Tail can help you hit Steel and Fairy Pokemon that threaten Garchomp. Ice Punch is only if you find your team struggling against Pokemon like Landorus-T, Gliscor, etc.
  • For the last slot of your team, I want to suggest Lapras as a possible Pokemon. Although it's NU, I feel that Lapras would synergize well with the rest of your team (especially Garchomp).
Here's a sample set taken from the XY Analyses.
    Lapras @ Assault Vest
    Ability: Water Absorb
    EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 SpD
    Modest Nature
    - Hydro Pump
    - Freeze-Dry
    - Thunderbolt
    - Ice Shard
This set acts as a special wall, and does a great job of doing so. Lapras can switch in on any ice-or-water move aimed at your team and absorb it well. Then, it can dish out damage with its BoltBeam (technically BoltDry lol) coverage, great STAB in Hydro Pump, and great priority move in Ice Shard that can serve to KO weakened threats. This set works well at countering some of the threats to Garchomp (bulky ground types, Rotom-W, etc.).

Hi Lunistrius, thanks for your comments. I've edited my post now so that it's a full team, so thanks for both the heads up and the suggestion of Lapras. You're right in that it covers Garchomp very well, and hopefully with it's base 130 HP and the Wish passing from Sylveon, Sandstorm won't affect Lapras too much. Thanks also for helping me decide about Iron Tail/Ice Punch. Looking back, of course Iron Tail was the best thing to go with. It hits Fairies very well. Thanks for your help and support!

For tyranitar i recommend that u put fire punch/fire fang and ice punch/ice fang in place of pursuit and dragon tail also you should put crunch in it as well as its a better stab though tyranitar mostly does this: Come in battle set sandstorm kill or wound a few pokemon harshly then die for sand sweepers to come in like your garchomp, also tyranitar could use a bit of bulk if you dont want to let it die too quick this is my set:

Tyranitar @ Smooth rock
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 220 HP / 156 Atk / 132 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Ice Punch
- Fire Fang
- Crunch
- Stone Edge

Ice punch is kept for unsuspecting grass types while fire fang for ferrothorn or other 4x weak pokes You can put earthquake or stealth rock inf ire fangs place or ice punch place.I put fire fang because i found out the fire punch doesn't kill most pokes (for me anyway) and keeps opponents with 10-20% hp so i came up with fire fang not only does it give 10 % chance for burn but also 10% chance for flinch so theirs a higher chance of crippling opponent this way i saw that fire fang leaves 30-45% but burns or flinches a couple of times too. crunch and stone edge are then stabs. Not many pokemon try to escape tyranitar with this set they usually die before they kill. But most important with these evs and the nature allows tyranitar to stay standing even after super effective hits fighting ofcourse though kills it.The reason for being specially defensive is because i have defensive and more special attackers are used in ou. (If there are any complaints about wrong posting etc. please pm me this is only my 2nd post on forums)

Hi Jbbill. Thanks for your suggestions. I've decided to go and do a bit of an amalgamation of both of the ideas. Tell me what you think:
Tyranitar @ Smooth Rock
Sand Stream
Sassy (+Sp.Def/-Spe)
220 HP, 156 Atk, 132 Sp.Def
Crunch
Stone Edge
Dragon Tail
Stealth Rock

I've decided to go with the Specially Defensive nature and EV spread, which I believe will be quite beneficial. As for the moves, I've not used your advice as much. Crunch is a hppd idea, but I really want to keep Stealth Rock and Dragon Tail. They really work well together I reckon. What do you think?

I like it but defog from your skarmory would take out your stealth rock as well. But the best hazard setter would be rocky helmet + iron barbs ferrothorn with spikes and stealth rock heres my set for it you can use it if you like it :)
Ferrothorn @ Rocky helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Power Whip/Gyro ball/protect
- Leech Seed
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
This set is good coz this enables ferrothorn to even withstand fire punch from adamant dragonites plus its the perfect counter for fairy types with gyro ball the relaxed nature helps even more with gyro ball Protect can be used if unsure if opponents is special attack or has fire type moves .Then leech seed is for ferro to tank opponent hits better and is a good substitute for leftovers.Spikes do great dmg to land opponents and cripple many pokemon.Same goes for stealth rock as it stops focus sashers sturdy pokes and dragonites from dragon dance/weakness policy

Hi. Great set. I'll certainly be using that in another team. My problem is that Tyranitar is my Sand setter. I can't really replace him :/ I suppose I could teach Ferro Sandstorm, but I'd rather keep T-tar since I don't have to keep using SS.
