The fact is that any dragon would rather get a Speed boost in today's metagame than using Dragon Rush(Even though it would be better than Outrage, in my opinion), simply because too many pokemon would be able outrun and stop the sweeping of many Dragon types. I know I certainly would rather DD than CS.

Over-design? Did you look at that pig? Nothing special about it, really, with the only notable features other than its general shape being the ears and tail. The grass starter has only the scarf thing and tail tip as a decoration, and the protagonists are just wearing simple clothes that I could imagine any normal person their age wearing (Not a fan of the booty shorts, but I could really care less).

The otter-starter is the only factor revealed to us that has been over-designed in any sense. Besides, it's not like other Pokemon in the game aren't complex visually.
Actually that pig has a random yellow nose and for some reason is wearing underpants. These appear to make no sense to me other than to make up for the fact that the actual design is boring. Which to be honest, makes this all the more tragic because it isnt really. A rabbit/pig cross could work when done really simply. But here they have made it seem like it is by overcompensating with this ridiculous pattern.

Have a nice day.

Nice try but it didn't work. ( I also don't get why guys alwasy act like that but meh)

Wait are you talking to me? Does the link not work for my Show/Hide box?

I don't think they were going for a rabbit/pig cross though. The translated scan called Pokabu the "Fire Pig Pokemon". Plus, his name ends with "bu", which is the Japanese sound for a pig grunting. If you don't see enough rabbit in him, it's because there isn't supposed to be any.

Where are these "underpants" you speak of? All I see a black stripe around the back part of his body. Also, his nose isn't yellow...the patch of fur above it is. All in all, nothing about any starters feels overdone to me, just a few small visual elements to add a bit of flavor. You want overcompensating, look at Garchomp (whose design I still love, by the way).

Edit: @Berserker Lord: That's strange. It works for me. It's a picture of Megan Fox xD

I know it's sort of impossible for pokemon to randomly change animal species, but I REALLY want the Water starter to be polar bear. Seriously. But it's just wishful thinking.

I'm hoping they give us these evolutions soon. Or at least some cool-looking new pokes. I'm looking forward to unique type combinations.

I think I'll have to agree with you there. The pattern may be a bit excessive, but at least the colors are visually appealing and not too complicated. Especially when compared to the pale colors of that otter with the huge orange nose.

I don't know what everyone else is looking at but these first stage starters are very cute.
IMO, they are more appealing than the first stages from DP.

The water was a bit surprising initially but I think that has a lot to do with his appearing alongside the others.
He looks very different in style and colour from Grass and Fire so he really stood out.

On his own, he is probably the cutest of the three.
You feel like tickling it to get a smile...lol.

hm. Claw sharpen doesn't seem that useful. With only +1 attack and no speed boost, you're still gonna get run over by scarfers. Plus low accuracy moves aren't that good to begin with... (100 bp Iron Tail, 100 bp Dragon rush, etc)
Yeah, in theory I'm not feeling the utility either. It can't be used with any Choice item. Could be used with a Life Orb, but if you want outright power you're probably going with Swords Dance or Dragon Dance every time, at least one of which is learned by just about everything I can think of that would possibly learn a move called Claw Sharpen.

I said earlier that maybe there could be something like a Tyranitar with Blizzard or Thunder working out to pound Gliscor/Hippowdon/Vaporeon/whatever, but the more I think about it I'm not even sure that's viable when it could be boosting Speed instead.

I'm thinking the move will actually be mostly used (if it's used at all) by defensive or support Pokemon who want really accurate Sleep Powder or the like. Start with Claw Sharpen, then add a mix of status moves (Stun Spore, Glare, Will-O-Wisp, Toxic, etc.), strong attacks with dodgy accuracy but interesting side effects (Zap Cannon, Gunk Shot, Dynamicpunch, Magma Storm, Thunder), and support moves (Reflect, Light Screen, Aromatherapy, Stealth Rock, etc.).

Whether any of it will work in practice, I'm not sure--depends on too many unknown factors. But on its face, at least it's a way to get better accuracy on status moves without needing to drop Leftovers.

Wasn't trying to be a creep, just an irony that they make the characters have less clothing (well the girl, at least), even though its a kids game.

It's probably not practical to be searching for Pokemon through forests, caves, and lakes in an ankle long dress and not fashionable to wear men's clothes.

Aside from our own preconceived notion for how the starter Pokemon will operate, it's important to remember that since Generation 3, each starter Pokemon has always been given some trait or attack to make it rather unique for its relative generation:

In Gen 3,
- Sceptile received Leaf Blade and was made the fastest Grass Pokemon of Gen 3;
- Blaziken received Sky Uppercut, Blaze Kick, and a unique typing which was complimented with the right stats for mixed attacking (later outclassed by Infernape);
- Swampert received the ideal stats to become the bulkiest and most well-rounded Water/Ground type;

In Gen 4,
- Torterra received Wood Hammer, Leaf Storm, and a unique typing;
- Infernape received Close Combat, Flare Blitz, Nasty Plot, and outclassed Blaziken to become (arguably) the best Fire/Fighting type as well as mixed attacker;
- Empoleon received a unique typing, allowing it to have the second-most resistances of any Pokemon.

As I've demonstrated, every starter Pokemon (starting from Generation 3) is created with something new to add to competitive battling. I've also demonstrated that every starter (aside from the Water types) receives new attacks that allow it to further standout. And so my conclusion is that each generation adds a new dimension to the competitive scene, meaning that our predictions are irrelevant until we understand the new elements added to this new generation.

What I wonder now is whether or not Game Freak will finally create a new move for the Gen 5 Water starter? Tradition makes it probable that the Grass and Fire starter will receive brand new moves. So I ask you this: what kind of moves could they create for each starter?

I've also demonstrated that every starter (aside from the Water types) receives new attacks that allow it to further standout.

Well technically all the water starters receive a unique move in the form of Hydro Cannon. Also, Swampert got Muddy Water in Gen 3 (unique, but totally useless). Hate to burst your bubble, but none of the starters in DP had any unique moves besides the previously mentioned elemental hyper beams (Hydro Cannon, Blast Burn, and Frenzy Plant) which are pretty much useless competitively. They got new attacks like Close Combat, Flare Blitz, and Wood Hammer, but so did plenty of other Pokemon.

Of course the starters are going to be unique. Every Pokemon is unique...well, maybe not Lumineon. But seriously, I don't get what you're trying to say here.

I think Illusion will go like this.... Player A sends out Zoruak with a pokemon out already. Then Zoruak will transform to the pokemon already out of course the opponent will not know that Zoruak transformed they would just think that Player A had the same pokemon as they had, but if Zoruak takes a certain amount of damage it's illusion fades just like sub and it reveals it's true form.

Btw whats with the girls hair???

But seriously, I don't get what you're trying to say here.

I'm just yapping on like an old coot! But really, I meant to say that each starter usually gets a very nice move that didn't exist in the previous generation. I'm curious as to the potential moves they will create for this new batch of starters.

Lumineon learns some interesting Bug and Flying moves that Water-types don't (at least I don't think any Water-types can learn U-turn and Silver Wind).

(Purely) Rumored Black/White fire pig line English names: 1st evo Pignite / 2nd evo Hogneous / 3rd evo Boarcano ... or was the first one Embryoink?

Fire pig is the only good one anyway. Grass snake looks too much like Treecko (especially the eyes) and Water otter looks way too much like Piplup in shape.

The Grass and the Fire starters are ok, nothing special. The Water starter kinda looks shitty to me.[He doesn't even look like a starter to me] Usually the starters are some of the coolest Pokemon. Maybe his evolutions will make up for it.

I hope the starter's final evolutions still end up being pretty big.

$5 says we get dragon typed flare blitz, and we give it to only dragonite in B/W...but then every dragon in the third game. At least it would make shelgon a threat in NU thanks to rock head and base 100 def for ease of setting up ddances.
What do you think the pseudo-legendary will be like? more broken then garchomp? worst of them all? mayby 2, like in gen. 3?

Is it just me, or do the guy characters get less and less actractive every game? ._.
I wonder how long it will take me to learn and remember the names of all these new pokemon
-crosses fingers for kangaskhan pre-evo-

yeah, this new male character is very cute IMO, red is also very cute, i would love to have both with me....ok that was just gay. *shot itself on the chest with a desert eagle*
