[Overview]

Although Phanpy has a hard time competing with other defensive walls, such as Bronzor, Gligar, and Hippopotas, it has a couple of tricks up its sleeves to separate it from the crowd. The main advantages that Phanpy possesses are access to priority Ice Shard, Head Smash, and higher base HP. Also, unlike Gligar, Phanpy doesn’t have a 4x weakness to Ice-type attacks. However, one problem with Phanpy is that it does not have a decent Speed stat, unlike Gligar, which makes Phanpy's battle time lower a chunk compared to Gligar's. Taking into account its advantages, Phanpy has an excellent role to play in this metagame.

[SET]
name: Lead Tank
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Head Smash
move 4: Ice Shard
item: Oran Berry
nature: Impish / Adamant
evs: 116 HP / 196 Atk / 116 Def / 36 SpD / 36 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

With its combination of good physical bulk and access to Stealth Rock, Phanpy can become one of the best leads in Little Cup. Phanpy's bulk allows it to take hits from common leads, such as Meowth, Aipom, and Diglett, and 2HKO back with a mixture of Earthquake and Ice Shard. For example, Phanpy usually ends up on top against Voltorb, who only has a 2% chance of 2HKOing Phanpy with Hidden Power Ice, and only a slight chance of OHKOing with Explosion. Setting up Stealth Rock from the start helps by gradually weakening your opponent over time, which lets your sweepers clean up more easily. Earthquake is Phanpy's primary STAB attack,(comma) and can deal major damage to the foe. Head Smash hits Flying- and Ghost-types immune to Phanpy's STAB Earthquake hard, while Ice Shard helps pick off weakened opponents.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

This set can also be used as a tank later in the game in order to set up Stealth Rock and fire off vicious attacks. By preserving Phanpy as a mid- to late-game tank, you also gain a counter to the dangerous Choice Scarf Cranidos. Cranidos's attacks do poorly against Phanpy; Stone Edge is resisted, Ice Beam never 2HKOes through Oran Berry, and Earthquake only has a 50% chance of 3HKOing. In return, Phanpy can OHKO Cranidos with Earthquake, and Focus Sash variants are finished off with Ice Shard, securing Phanpy's place as a solid Cranidos counter.

Phanpy has trouble dealing with Water-types and Snover. Mantyke pairs up nicely with Phanpy here, as it can take multiple hits from Water-types such as Wailmer and Omanyte thanks to its massive Special Defense and Water Absorb, and then threaten to OHKO back with Hidden Power Grass or set up an Agility. Additionally, Mantyke can handle Lead Houndour, who is troublesome for Phanpy. Snover can be eliminated by Croagunk, thanks to its STAB priority move in Vacuum Wave. Croagunk can also be used over Mantyke to take on all of the aforementioned threats. However, this leaves Phanpy without a sturdy specially defensive tank to fall back on. Phanpy is also useless against Bronzor, so Magnet Rise Magnemite gets a mention for being able to take Bronzor out reliably while providing resistances to Ice- and Grass-type attacks.

[SET]
name: Life Orb
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Ice Shard
move 3: Head Smash
move 4: Seed Bomb / Superpower
item: Life Orb
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 196 HP / 196 Atk / 116 Def

[SET COMMENTS]

Phanpy can be a great Life Orb sweeper, as it reaches a decent 16 Attack stat and has wide coverage. Its primary attack is STAB Earthquake, which can put a huge dent in any Pokemon not resistant to it. Ice Shard is a great priority move that makes Phanpy an excellent revenge killer; for example, Ice Shard 2HKOes most Gligar sets. Head Smash is an ideal choice for the third moveslot, hitting Flying- and Bug-types super effectively, especially Paras who can otherwise survive all of Phanpy's other attacks and put Phanpy to sleep with Spore. Seed Bomb strikes Water-types such as Staryu, Clamperl, and Buizel harder than any other of Phanpy's moves, whereas Superpower can deal decent damage to Bronzor as well as OHKO Munchlax. However, not only are the Attack and Defense drops not appreciated, but Ghost-types are granted an opportunity to freely switch in.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Although Life Orb Phanpy deals a chunk of damage even to Pokemon who resist Earthquake, it is still walled by quite a few Pokemon. Bronzor is the main counter to Life Orb Phanpy, but can be taken out by Magnet Rise Magnemite easily. Stunky is a fine check for Ghosts who are immune to Earthquake. Munchlax is a good defensive partner for Phanpy, as it can shrug off Ice-type attacks thanks to Thick Fat and can also take most special attacks, while also being able to hit Ghosts with Pursuit and Bronzor with Fire Punch.

[Team Options]

Like most other sweepers, Life Orb Phanpy greatly appreciates both Stealth Rock and dual screens in play. Stealth Rock makes Flying-types think twice before switching into an Earthquake, and also breaks all Focus Sashes on the opponent’s team, making switching frail and fast revenge killers in harder. Dual screens are greatly appreciated on this set, as they increase Phanpy's staying power, which allows it to stay on the offensive for longer.

Offensively, Phanpy needs teammates who can take out its common counters. First of all, Magnet Rise Magnemite deals with Bronzor, a problem for every Phanpy. Stunky is another such Pokemon who greatly assists Phanpy by eliminating the Ghost-types of Little Cup, namely Drifloon, Gastly, and Duskull; all three can come in for free on Earthquake and deal a great amount of damage back with strong special attacks. Finally, fast, frail sweepers do well when their backs are covered by Phanpy's natural bulkiness and Stealth Rock. Elekid and Houndour are examples of sweepers who pair up well with Phanpy offensively, as they both appreciate the elimination of Focus Sashes as well as the residual damage.

When paired with certain Pokemon, Phanpy forms a solid defensive core. Mantyke covers Phanpy's weaknesses quite well, sporting an immunity to one of the most common offensive types, Water, while using its massive base 120 Special Defense to sponge neutral special Grass- and Ice-type hits. In return, Phanpy is unfazed by Electric-type moves and shrugs off even the strongest of Rock-type attacks. When also used with Magnemite, these three form a great defensive core with every type in the game being resisted by one member or more in the trio. If Magnemite does not appeal to you, specially defensive Bronzor is a great replacement, especially when used provide dual screen support as well as a handy resistance to Ice- and Grass-type attacks. Generally, any Pokemon with a reasonable amount of Special Defense and HP is a good teammate for Phanpy, like Munchlax and Lileep under a sandstorm.

[Optional Changes]

Phanpy has little else going for it in terms of other usable moves. Rock Slide may be used instead of Head Smash for its better accuracy and lack of recoil damage, but it only has half the Base Power. Knock Off may be used on the Lead set, but in the fast-paced metagame of Little Cup, you're much better off attacking. In terms of alternative sets, Phanpy can run an effective Choice Band set, though low Speed and the fact that so much of Little Cup is immune to Earthquake means that the risk outweighs the reward. Phanpy can also run a Choice Scarf set,(comma) as it reaches 14 Speed unboosted, which increases to 21 with a Choice Scarf, allowing Phanpy to outspeed every Pokemon without a boost; however, even though Phanpy does get Head Smash, it has a hard time differentiating from Sandshrew, who can run a similar set but with a greater Attack stat. Phanpy can run an Endeavor set, but it is not recommended because any Pokemon with a Choice Scarf or a priority move can easily take down Endeavor Phanpy.

[Counters]

Ghost-types such as Gastly and Drifloon can put Phanpy to sleep, although they must watch out for Head Smash. They also have the choice of blasting Phanpy with strong STAB Shadow Balls. Bronzor takes little damage from Phanpy and can set up Stealth Rock or attack with Flash Cannon or Psychic. Paras can switch in on any attack but Head Smash and then threaten to Spore it or punish it with Seed Bomb. Almost any bulky Water-type can come in on Phanpy and scare it off. Mantyke is especially good, as it resists Superpower, is immune to Earthquake, and takes little damage from Ice Shard, although it must beware of switching into Head Smash.

A quick note: the EVs section is not needed and for each set, you have to include an Additional Comments section.

Adamant Max Attack EQ does 87% - 113% to support Omanyte, and OHKOes Kabuto, rendering Seed Bomb nigh-worthless.

One reason to use this Phanpy over Gligar or Bronzor is that Phanpy is a sure-shot counter to Choice Scarf Cranidos. It resists Stone Edge, Ice Beam never 2HKOes through Oran Berry and Earthquake has less than 0.5% chance of 3HKOing. In return, Phanpy OHKOes back with Earthquake, and the rare Rock Polish variants are finished off Ice Shard, securing Phanpy's place as a solid Cranidos counter, something neither Gligar nor Bronzor can ever claim to be.

Or, that it has Head Smash, leaving it with 150 bp EdgeQuakes (this seems like a valid point).

The Endeavor set doesn't seem all that great to me. Most people won't switch against a 1 HP Phanphy, so you Endure -> Endeavor -> die, but on top of that, any pokemon with Oran Berry won't be beat by Endeavor + SS (or Endeavor + an attack). Also, there is lots of priority in LC (and Snover is very common), making an Endeavor set difficult to use. I think Substitute would be better than Endeavor because chances are something will be faster than you pre-boost and then slower than you post-boost, but I really think its OC material. I guess if you have logs showing that it does work I could allow the set...

I'm also skeptical of Choice Band because Earthquake is not an attack you want to lock yourself in on, especially if you don't have anything else to offer (like Gligar has immunities and U-turn, Diglett traps pokes, etc).

Machop is another common lead that gives lead Phanpy trouble. Perhaps mention that in AC somewhere.

This is a great analysis otherwise though. Once these changes are made/refuted I'll stamp this. :)

The main reason why Endeavor doesn't work in Little Cup is Oran Berry. Oran takes the "endeavoree's" (i dont know what else to call it lol) HP to a high enough number so that Phanphy can't kill with Ice Shard. Honestly, if i were to use an Endeavor set on anything in Little Cup it would be on Swinub, who is immune to both Hail and Sandstorm as well as having STAB on Ice Shard.

Phanpy has 40 base speed, and no it won't be outspeeding much even with Jolly. Adamant gives you more power, and that should be the nature Phanpy uses, which it is in these movesets.

You're Set Comments sections are both very, very, very very very very very long. I suggest you move some of the information you wrote in there to the Additional Comments sections instead as they are both very very very very very very short. :p

That's a good idea, a format that is suggestable and often works is explaining your moves in set comments, and explaining items, nature, and EVs on Additional Comments.

- should be "Non-Choice Attacker" or "Life Orb Attacker" or "Life Orb" (2nd set)
- should mention bronzor in team options
- forgot a
at the end of last paragraph in optional changes
- in counters, you said non-choiced sets. it should be non-choice set or LO set or something.

CB is worthy of a note in OC even if it's not good enough to give it's own set. Otherwise good:

[Overview]

Phanpy is one of the couple of Pokémon who have has a hard time fitting in with the fast-paced Little Cup metagame of Little Cup. It is easily outclassed by other defensive walls such as Bronzor and Gligar, who have better in terms of defensive capabilities., as well as Hippopotas, seeing as how it can also create make an infinite unlimited sandstorm, Hippopotas can also be used instead of Phanpy as a tank. The main thing that makes Phanpy is different from these stated Pokémon, is that Phanpy unlike them, Phanpy gets access to a priority attack in Ice Shard, only takes 6% damage from resists Stealth Rock, and cannot being trapped by the rare Magnemite.

[SET COMMENTS]

Phanpy can utilize its awesome good defensive stats(in your overview, you just said that it's defensive stats are outclassed), and access to Stealth Rock to become one of the most scariest leads in the metagame. Phanpy's bulk allows it to take a hits from common leads, such as Meowth, Aipom, and Diglett, and 2HKO back with the combination of Earthquake and Ice Shard. Phanpy also usually ends up on top against Voltorb, who only has a 2% chance of 2HKOing Phanpy with Hidden Power Ice, even with max Special Attack, and a slight chance of OHKOing with Explosion. With hHead Smash hits the Flying- and Ghost-types immune to Phanpy's STAB hard on this set, it is able to obtain a SE attack against common counters against it such as Mantyke and ghost types with levitate like Duskull.

This set can also be used as a sturdy tank, as it can be sent in later in the game, to set up Stealth Rock and start attacking firing off of a decent Attack stat of 15 or 16 with an Adamant nature, which allows you to easily break any substitute with any one of its attacks. If Phanpy is used as a tank, (the set's name is literally "Lead Tank", what do you think Phanpy would be doing?) Counter can be used to get a few surprise KOs due to Phanpy's high HP stat; however, be sure that you will OHKO with the Counter, as Counter greatly revolves around the element of surprise and good prediction, and if it fails once, chances are it won't work the second time. Also, be sure that your opponent will be hitting you with an physical attack first; otherwise you will lose that element of surprise.

One reason to use this Phanpy over Gligar or Bronzor is that Phanpy is a sure-shot counter to Choice Scarf Cranidos. It resists Stone Edge, Ice Beam never 2HKOes through Oran Berry and Earthquake has half a less than 0.5% chance of 3HKOing. In return, Phanpy also OHKOes back with Earthquake, and Focus Sash the rare Rock Polish variants are finished off with Ice Shard, securing Phanpy's place as a solid Cranidos counter, something neither Gligar nor Bronzor can ever claim to be. Or, that it It also has Head Smash, leaving it with 150 BP bp EdgeQuakes.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

As a lead, (it's named "LEAD Tank")Phanpy has trouble dealing with Omanyte and defensive Kabuto, as well as Snover. Mantyke pairs up nicely with Phanpy here, as it can take multiple hits from Omanyte thanks to its humongous Special Defense, while threatening to OHKO with Hidden Power Grass or set up an Agility. LeadDour is also troublesome for Phanpy, yet and Mantyke can handle it as well. It further complements Phanpy by taking special hits directed at Phanpy, as well as possessing a useful Water-type Immunity to take on Scarf Wailmer leads. Snover can be eliminated by with a Croagunk, thanks to its STAB priority move in Vacuum Wave, while being able to break a potential Substitute with Fake Out. Croagunk can also be used over Mantyke to take on all of the aforementioned threats, however this leaves Phanpy without a sturdy specially defensive tank to fall back on. Phanpy is also useless against Bronzor, and so Magnet Rise Magnemite gets mention for being able to take Bronzor out reliably while providing a resistance to Ice attacks. Be careful about using Croagunk with Phanpy, as an Overheat from LeadDour will OHKO.

As stated before, Phanpy really appreciates any Pokemon that can set up entry hazards or use rRapid sSpin to prevent entry hazards from being on your side of the field as much as possible. Pineco and Staryu are the main contestants, but Pineco is recommended, as it can use rapid spin and also set up with sSpikes. Also, you could use rRock sSlide instead of hHead sSmash if you want a better secondary effect and accuracy, but then you'll have half the power in your Rock-type attack (with Phanpy's Speed, the secondary effect is irrelevant). Machop really poses as a threat to this set, so you might want a counter for it as well.

[SET COMMENTS]

Phanpy can be made as a great Life Orb sweeper Pokémon, as it reaches a decent 16 Attack stat. It's Its best attack would be is a STAB base 100 power Earthquake, putting a huge dent on anything that it hits for neutral damage. Ice Shard is a much-wanted great priority move, and makes Phanpy an excellent revenge-killer. To KO a max HP and max Def Gligar, the minimum amount of Ice Shards is 2, and three is the max.

Ice Shard 2HKOs most Gligar sets. Head Smash is an ideal choice for the third moveslot, hitting Flying-types and Bug-types for super effectively, especially Paras who can otherwise survive all other attacks and put Phanpy to sleep with Spore. Another Pokemon is Mantyke, whom Phanpy seems to have has a lot of trouble dealing with. Seed Bomb hits Water-types such as Staryu, Clamperl, and Buizel (as well as any other Swift Swimmers) harder than any other of Phanpy's moves, whereas Superpower hits Bronzor for decent damage,. but However, the Attack and Defense drops are not appreciated. Munchlax is another easy target for Phanpy's Superpower to hit. However,Superpower also allows gives Ghost-types another opportunity to switch in to, which could have disastrous results late game.

(Paragraphs combined as they talk about the same things. Ice Shard data is unnecessary. Saying Swift Swimmers is unnecessary.)

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Even Though Life Orb Phanpy deals a chunk of damage even to Pokemon who resist its STAB moves Earthquake, it is still largely walled by quite a few Pokemon. Bronzor is the main counter to Life Orb Phanpy, who but can be taken out by Magnet Rise Magnemite easily. Phanpy also becomes set up bait for Drifloon and Gastly once it nabs a kill with Earthquake.Stunky that invests in HP provides is a fine check for the aforementioned Ghosts that are immune to Earthquake. Munchlax is a good defensive partner for Phanpy, shrugging off Ice attacks and specially based Grass and Water moves, while hitting Ghosts with Pursuit. plus It also does not take much from any ghosts special attacks as well as while demolishing hitting Bronzor with Fire Punch or Fire Blast.

(I have a feeling this was copied from a Choice Phanpy set…)

The choice between Seed Bomb and superpower is a tough one. Seed bomb gives you a great SE attack against all water type Pokemon, a major threat to Phanpy. On the other hand, Superpower gets to inflict SE damage on bulky normal types such as Munchlax. Even though seed bomb is recommended, one can opt to use superpower as it really is a 50 / 50 choice to pick what move.

(This whole paragraph is unnecessary, as you have already discussed these two moves.)

[Team Options]

Like most other tanks sweepers, Life Orb Phanpy greatly appreciates both Stealth Rock and dual screens in play. Stealth Rock makes Flying-types think twice before switching into an Choiced Earthquake, and also breaks all Focus Sashes on the opponent’s team, making switching frail and fast revenge-killers in harder. Dual Screens are greatly appreciated on the Tank Life Orb sweeper set, as they both increase Phanpy's staying power, allowing it to set up Stealth Rock easier with less difficulty as well as stay on the offensive for longer.

Offensively, Phanpy needs a few teammates to help it really shine by taking out its common counters. First of all, Magnet Rise Magnemite comfortably deals with Bronzor, a thorn in the side problem for every Phanpy user. Stunky is another such Pokemon that greatly assists Phanpy by eliminating the Ghost-types of Little Cup, namely Drifloon, Gastly, and Duskull, all of which freely come in for free on a locked Earthquake. Once they are removed, however, Phanpy destroys most unprepared teams with ease. They can deal a great amount of damage back with strong special attacks. Finally, fast, frail sweepers do well when their backs are covered by Phanpy's natural bulkiness and Stealth Rock. Sweepers such as Bellsprout Elekid and Houndour are just examples of sweepers that pair up well with Phanpy offensively, as they both appreciate the elimination of Focus Sashes as well as the residual damage, turning many 2HKOes into OHKOes, while Phanpy is always there to take a hit for them.

When paired with certain Pokemon, Phanpy forms a solid defensive core. Mantyke covers Phanpy's weaknesses quite well, sporting an immunity to one of the most common offensive types, Water, while using its massive base 120 Special Defense to sponge neutral special Grass and Ice type hits. In return, Phanpy is unfazed by Electric moves and shrugs off even the strongest of Rock-type attacks. When further combined also used with Magnemite, these three form a beautiful trinity great defensive core- each weakness being resisted by one member or the other or more in the trio. If Magnemite does not appeal to you, a specially defensive Bronzor of your own is a great addition to any team, especially when used in tandem with Phanpy to provide dual screen support as well as a handy resistance to Ice- and Grass-type attacks. Generally, anything with a reasonable amount of Special Defense and HP is a good teammate for Phanpy, Examples being like Munchlax and Lileep under a sandstorm as it gets the1.5x SpD boost because of its rock type.

Bronzor is another teammate that Phanpy likes to be paired with. It stops walls all ice type Ice attacks aimed at Phanpy cold. Grass types are also not a problem for Bronzor. It resists EdgeQuake, which is yet another good thing about it. Also, it can set up Stealth Rock, something that Phanpy really appreciates. Basically, Bronzor is Phanpy's physical shield.

(What? Bronzor has already been mentioned, and Phanpy is a physical shield. Phanpy sets up Stealth Rock too…)

[Optional Changes]

Phanpy has little else going for it in terms of other usable moves. Rock Slide may be used on the Tank and Life Orb sets to avoid taking recoil damage that Head Smash provides and have better accuracy, but it only has half the base power , but the low base power is a turn-off. Knock Off may be used on the Lead set, but in the fast paced metagame of Little Cup, you're much better off attacking. Phanpy can also run a Choice Scarf set as it reaches 14 unboosted Speed, which is raised increases to 21 with a Choice Scarf, allowing you to outspeed everything without a boost; however, even though Phanpy does get Head Smash, it has a hard time differentiating from Sandshrew, who can run a similar set but with a greater Attack stat. Apart from that, Phanpy has no real options other than the ones already mentioned.

The Lead set EVs on the Lead set are specifically designed to survive a LeadDour's Lead Houndour’s Overheat most of the time as well as outspeed Omanyte who don't invest in Speed, and tie with ones that do. On the Life Orb set Attack and HP should be maxed out, since Speed is not a priority due to Phanpy's inability to outspeed many Pokemon even with maximum speed. Since all of Phanpy's base stats end in a zero, it can get 3 points in two stats and 2 points in another, which makes EVing Phanpy for optimal efficiency easier.

You could use an Endeavor set with Phanpy, but it is not recommended. Phanpy can run an Endeavor set, but it is not recommended. For one reason,There are too many priority users in the Little Cup metagame. Essentially any Pokémon with a Choice Scarf and or a priority move could easily take down this set Endeavor Phanpy. Also, you could use a substitute set, which is a lot more recommended than an endeavor one.

(Expand on this and maybe merge it with other paragraphs.)

One could try to use a Choice Band set with Phanpy. Phanpy can use a Choice Band.It has a high enough base attack stat that allows it to actually for it to work. Unfortunately, there are a lot of Flying- types, or Pokemon who have levitate, and Levitators who obviously are immune to Phanpy's STAB attack;Earthquake. Also, Phanpy doesn't really have a decent speed stat, so it would be lucky if Phanpy actually gets to inflict damage on the opposing Pokemon at all. Aside from the Earthquake issue, though, a Choice Band set on Phanpy could actually work out if used with the right moves and team.

[Counters]

For the Lead set, Ghost-types such as Gastly and Drifloon can put it Phanpy to sleep, although they must watch out for Head Smash. They also have the choice of blasting Phanpy with strong STAB Shadow Balls. They may as well switch into a Choice Earthquake, setting up a Substitute, which can destoy your team.Bronzor also takes no considerable damage from Phanpy and proceeds tocan set up Stealth Rock and start or attacking with Flash Cannon or Psychic.

(Snover? Kabuto/Omanyte? You don't have enough speed to outspeed them.)

For the Life Orb set, Bronzor almost completely walls Phanpy, as even a Life Orb boosted Superpower does less than 50% to it. In return, Bronzor can just either stall Phanpy out or attack it with Flash Cannon or Hidden Power Ice. Paras can switch in on anything but Head Smash and then threaten to Spore it or punish it with Seed Bomb. Mantyke is especially good, as it resists Superpower, is immune to Earthquake and takes little damage from Ice Shard. Almost any bulky Water can come in on Phanpy and scare it off, although Mantyke must beware of switching into a Head Smash.

(Add that almost anything faster can switch in and threaten Phanpy, especially special sweepers.)

You repeat stuff a lot. You also have a ton of unnecessary commas and junk left over from the Choice Band set. Otherwise, this is a good analysis.

It resists Stone Edge, Ice Beam never 2HKOes through Oran Berry and Earthquake has half a 50% chance of 3HKOing.
Actually, half a chance meant half of 1% (0.5%). Guess that doesn't come out right. =\
