Project NU Teambuilding Competition - Season 3, Week 10: Dollar Store Legendaries

Do you want to keep the tourney after each season?

  • the tourney is unique and why I contribute

  • it’s cool to have but not vital

  • I could care less

  • it’s a bit annoying

  • for the most part, I don’t like the tourney

Results are only viewable after voting.
LTTM. I like how it used a different team structure for Oricorio-Sensu instead just being on a grassy terrain team with hazards.

S2W2: Results
We've been spikin. We've been rockin. We have... all been used spikes overqwil. But the votes are in... and congrats me! Good job me. Thanks me!

Season 2, Week 3: Kilowattrel

:sv/kilowattrel:

Starting in PU, Kilowattrel was completely ignored until recently. It started picking up traction due to its high Speed and ability to both pivot and punish Defog Talonflame. Since then, we've last Talonflame, but Kilowattrel has stayed as a great form of Speed control that has basically replaced it (and also this form of Speed control beats Water-types, a growing issue). While Kilowattrel lacks uniquely diverse sets, it makes up for that in its sheer slappability, as it easily fits on many-a-team in NU with little-to-no support necessary. Submissions are open now and close on Tuesday, November 5th at around 10pm EST (GMT -6). Happy building!

Cinccino Scyther HO (but also with kilo)
by LessThanThreeMan & Shengineer
:cinccino::scyther::kilowattrel::scream tail::breloom::tatsugiri:

Kilo is a really strong mon in this meta, but sometimes it feels a bit weak. We wanted to use an offensive item on kilo since it immediately becomes more threatening. Specs could work but we liked the idea of switching moves so we went with life orb kilo. Non-boots kilo makes the most sense on the cinccino anti-hazard HO teams so we built from there! LO kilo and cm scream have a lot of offensive synergy and both are usually checked by generically specially bulky mons. Kilo can throw off some t bolts for scream to clean up after late game. Scyther + kilo gives a bit of a bird spam angle and can help overwhelm the opposing team. Team is also really fast so thats always nice!

:cinccino::loaded dice:Cinccino
Cinccino is here to keep hazards off but also be a threat in its own right. Knock off can remove helmets for scyther, as well as pressure a lot of the flying resists.

:scyther::eviolite:Scyther
SD eviolite scyther is a potent threat right now and worth the no hazard support it requires. It is very bulky with the evio boost, dual wing beat hits hard, and it has great coverage. It can be used to 1v1 a lot of offensive mons since it can live just about any hit with eviolite as well. Tera electric helps us both not lose to opposing kilo and not get t waved.

:kilowattrel::life orb:Kilo
LO kilo is fast, strong, has a good stab combo, and also abuses having rocks off the field. Terablast fairy lets us flip the matchup vs scarf flygon and not have to predict it coming in (or hit hurricanes.) Also nice to hit any goodra that would try and check kilo + scream. And of course, more bird moves.

:scream tail::booster energy:Scream Tail
Booster cm scream is ultra fast, gets turns to set up, and is a threatening sweeper with how bulky it is/how many hits it can get off. With booster speed it can act as a revenge killer in a pinch as well. As mentioned above, most of scream's checks are just generically specially bulky mons so kilo provides more pressure against these as well. Most end games are cleaned by either scream or scyther. I think the first 4 have pretty strong synergy, but if you wanted to try it and make some edits the last 2 are probably the mons to go.

:breloom::focus sash:Loom
Sash breloom is a bit of an odd pick here, but we wanted to use it as a lead to disrupt the opposing team. Having a sash on the team is really nice on this type of build since even if you dont lead with it typically they remain intact. Mach punch could be used here over one of the other moves but we valued hitting glowbro with bulldoze. Kilo doesn't love bulky grounds (especially gastro) and neither it nor scream love bulky steels. Loom can hit both of these with it's stab combo!

:tatsugiri::white herb:Tatsu
Tatsu is probably the weak link here, but the idea was to have an additional means of hazard removal as well as the water immunity/scald switch in. White herb lets it click draco twice in a row, and memento lets it potentially support the other members of the team.

Rain HO ft. Weather Ball Kilo
:klefki: :overqwil: :basculegion: :kilowattrel: :uxie: :ludicolo:

I had this lying around from SCL, so I thought I'd throw it into the ring. Rain is an extremely potent form of offense in the current tier for many obvious reasons, but I think one of the more underrated ones is how well Kilo fits on these builds. Under Rain, Kilo becomes an extremely tough, almost impossible, threat to truly stop defensively with its high powered STABs and access to Water coverage in the form of a Rain boosted Weather Ball. I had a hail I would submit as well, but I find this Rain quite cool and full of interesting Rain dynamics. Try it out!

:inteleon::kilowattrel::toxicroak::bronzong::incineroar::decidueye:
KiloIntel :0

This has been lingering a bit in my builder but works here too! The basic idea is you rely on Inteleon and Incineroar to draw in Water-types for Kilowattrel and Toxicroak while using Incineroar and Bronzong as your defensive core, outplaying every Mienshao you come across with Toxicroak, Decidueye, and, if necessary, Tera Fairy Kilowattrel. In the end, either Inteleon or Decidueye should win with the both the lack of Water-types and Dark-types being taken care of by the latter's U-turn in combination with Toxicroak and Incineroar. Also, skillful Heavy-Duty Boots spam because entry hazards are balanced!

:basculegion::scream tail::incineroar::registeel::toxicroak::kilowattrel:

Substitute Basculegion has seen a bit more usage as of late, with varying options like Spite and Endeavor being neat to lure in and beat the bulky Water-types. Shengineer (yes he already submitted, smd) and I thought it'd be fun to try it out with Metronome Phantom Force. This was ENTIRELY because we misunderstood how it interacted with Phantom Force, but it helps beat Vaporeon harder, so... Rest of the team is pretty standard for offense/balance.

Nasty Plot Munkidori + Competitive Kilowattrel
:Munkidori: :Mienshao: :Kilowattrel: :Flygon: :Bronzong: :vaporeon:

When Building this Team I never tried out using Nasty Plot Munkidori So I decided to build a team core consisting of Nasty Plot Munkidori, Life Orb Mienshao, and Pivot Kilowattrel to really strong results. Kilowattrel pairs well with Mienshao and Flygon to let Munkidori to get free setup. With Bronzong and Vaporeon being the defensive tanks of the team.
Replays: 1, 2,
3, 4, 5, 6, 7
:Munkidori:: :heavy-duty boots:
Munkidori primary goal is to break through teams with Nasty Plot boosted attacks. Tera Fighting gives it a dark resistance and boost the power of Focus Blast.

:Mienshao:: :life orb:
Life Orb Mienshao is my strongest wallbreaker on the team, as many Pokemon don’t enjoy switching into ether Close Combat or Knock Off. I run Triple Axel for my last moveslot letting it threaten any focus sash users.

:Kilowattrel:: :heavy-duty boots:
Kilowattrel is another great support for the team for providing great speed control and typing. Additionally, many of my teammates appreciate Kilowattrel taking advantage of intimidated users to make it a deadly sweeper that can destroy teams.

:Flygon:: :Choice Scarf:
Choice Scarf Flygon is the standard set and it’s the team’s main speed control. Tera Steel lets it handle opposing Flygon and Fairy-types.

:Bronzong:: :leftovers:
Bronzong is the bulky Steel-type of the team. It checks many foes like Sylveon and Flygon, while Tera Water gives it a better matchup into Fire-types.

:Vaporeon:: :heavy-duty boots:
Vaporeon is the most important member in team. Since, it can threaten foes with Scald burns and prevent any setup attempts from sweeping thanks to Haze. Tera Poison lets it better handle fighting-types, while giving it a poison-type immunity.

Ok, so, disregarding Pokeslice's vote, we have a tie, and I don't feel like voting now and showing a bias (, though earlier I should have; Pokeslice clearly has a W team). And, to settle the tie between Pokeslice and Rabia, I'm letting Pokeslice's vote count, so…

Congratulations Rabia for using the broken fish!

Sub Bascu Balance

I’ll be back shortly with next week!

Who's ready to play mind-numbing games on ladder? I know I am! And, if you don't want to, don't participate because this week it's terrain!

Season 2, Week 4: Terrain

:sv/thwackey::sv/indeedee:
These two, ever since they've been separately introduced into NU, have singlehandedly let their respective playstyles be good by default. And, with many good Pokemon to take advantage of them: Ghostcorio, Firecorio, Grafaiai, Hitmonlee, Uxie, Galarian Articuno, Espeon, Sceptile, etc., they've become respectable and scary playstyles to face in their own right. However, they have received quite a few blows recently, such as the loss of Cresselia, Iron Thorns, and Electricorio, so it'll be interesting to see what y'all come up with!
:sv/pincurchin:
If you're using this after the loss of Iron Thorns, I commend your bravery. Good luck, soldier!
Also, LessThanThreeMan, I love BanjoKazooie, so I must congratulate on your pfp, and to everyone, submissions are open now and close on Tuesday, November 12th at around 10pm EST (GMT -6). Happy building!

Drifblim E-terrain Team
:pincurchin: :raichu alola: :swampert: :hitmonlee: :uxie: :drifblim:
Yeah, I did make an e-terrain team. Because I wanna (end my suffering). This team went through a lot of different interations, from toxtricity and pawmot being on the team, to bronzong and breloom being as well. But I'm happy with the final result.

Replays: 1 2 3
:pmd/pincurchin: The designated mon you need for this team, pincurchin sets up terrain, maybe gets up a spike, and then dies. I added memento over recover as it allows teammates to potentially set up on some mons, and personally you only really need 2 times for pincurchin to come in.

:pmd/raichu alola: What would an e-terrain team be without the mon that has an exclusive ability to abuse it? Raichu Alola is really good on this team to deal lots of damage to multiple targets. I went with modest and Life Orb to deal the most damage possible, as you outspeed everything in e-terrain anyways. T-bolt and psyshock are obvious stabs, alluring voice hits flygon hard (and multiple dark types) while surf hits incin and other ground types hard as well. Tera water is mainly for boosted surfs, but tera electric is another option to make t-bolt an absolute nuke.

:pmd/swampert: I needed a defensive mon on this team to actually get teammates in, and swampert was the pokemon of choice. Standard set, with rocky helmet to punish incoming physical attackers.

:pmd/hitmonlee: I needed another abuser for e-terrain, and hitmonlee was the mon I chose. Standard set, because that's good. Tera electric avoids para from Klefki, and can mean if it gets in with the ground type chipped, it can potentially sweep rain teams (which the team struggles against). Jolly also allows it to outspeed more threats, which is very nice against other double speed teams.

:pmd/uxie: I wanted another special attacker, so I decided to go with uxie. This is just the terrain sweeper set, but with electric seed ofc. Not much more to talk about.

:pmd/drifblim: I had a free slot here, so I decided on drifblim. I used a calm mind, strength sap set, which can be seen here in an SCL game from week 1. I decided to use different attacking moves however. Air slash is a decent stab option and can cheese past some mons (fun fact, drifblim only got air slash this gen. Before its best special flying stab was gust...), while tera blast ground can hurt incineroar and most steel types. You can't hit bronzong for even neutral damage, but since the whole team tries to overload bronzong, its fine. Evs are to make sure you outspeed incineroar even if unburden isn't activated, with the rest in HP and then special attack.

Similar to Heatranator, I decided to choose the second-to-worst terrain! (Manual misty terrain ain't it, trust me.)

:pincurchin::drifblim::raichu-alola::sceptile::salazzle::pawmot:
Drifblim + Pawmot E Terrain
:pincurchin::terrain extender:: setter, nice hazard setter, can spread status semi-annoyingly with discharge + scald, memento is cool for momentum, tera fairy is a great defensive tera type for shao and flygon

:drifblim::electric seed:: cm + ssap makes it really annoying to beat, tbolt is the coverage because elec terrain boosts it + neutral option to hit darks with, tera elec boosts tbolt while both providing a dark neutrality and letting it take advantage of galv, kilo, and other elecs, the ev spread lets drifblim be 3hkoed by offensive incin's koff (before tera)

:raichu-alola::colbur berry:: surge surfer lets electro ball be a dumb stab move to throw off, f blast demolishes incin, copper, and other steels [~~ if it lands; i lost an entire game due to a miss ;( ~~], colbur berry lets alolachu take advantage of incin and means it doesn't need to worry about sucker punch from croak, tera fight boosts f blast and provides resistances to dark and bug moves (sucker, koff, uturn, fimp)

:sceptile::electric seed:: acro + eq provides great coverage for plume and gbro / kilo and others that resist the attacks are frail (barring worm and zong), tera fly is nice to better take common moves (uturn, fimp, mach, cc) but is mainly for boosting acro, the ev spread lets sceptile outspeed +2 flygon in case

:salazzle::heavy-duty boots:: np + encore is great to destroy more defensive teams, overheat > fire blast because i hate missing + its stronger, tera fly lets you avoid eq and encore eq users if necessary

:pawmot::air balloon:: strong semi-wallbreaker, dubl shock + cc is stupid (especially the former when factoring in terrain), ice punch + iron fist lets pawmot take out common mons (flygon, gligar, plume), air balloon + tera fairy also lets pawmot be a last-minute flygon counter if necessary (because balanced mons are balanced), revival blessing is very cool to play with pincurchin's memento and revive partner setup sweepers
