Project NU Teambuilding Competition - Season 3, Week 10: Dollar Store Legendaries

Do you want to keep the tourney after each season?

  • the tourney is unique and why I contribute

  • it’s cool to have but not vital

  • I could care less

  • it’s a bit annoying

  • for the most part, I don’t like the tourney

Results are only viewable after voting.
1. Fight Spam Hazard Stack (It's kind of funny how dominant this team was in replays :heart:.)
2. Scope Gallade
3. Anti-Cincc Lead

Season 1, Week 1: Breloom

Now that we are through the tier shift (with an extra week of a buffer) it is officially time to Start Season 1! Moving forward all NU legal teams can be used in the upcoming Season 1 Tournament! (dates and details to come later!) Without further ado our featured pokemon for Season 1 Week 1 is.... Breloom! I promise we didn't plan to sync up with NBT on this... but hey you could potentially use 1 team for both!

:sv/breloom:

Band? Sub seed? Toxic? Balance? Offense? The choice is yours! Breloom is a very powerful attacker in the new NU meta. It has strong priority in technician boosted mach punches, technician boosted bullet seeds, some nice coverage options, and plenty of poison heal shenanigans! Use any set on Breloom and construct the best team possible! Don't forget to read through the formatting requirements if you are unfamiliar and to include at least one replay!

Submissions close for Season 1 Week 1 on Tuesday, July 16th at around 10pm EST (GMT -6). Happy building!

Teleport Deoxys Offense
:deoxys-defense: :breloom: :lycanroc-dusk: :flygon: :tentacruel: :rotom-heat:

Teleport is a really cool move that is basically unreleased in gen9. I built this team mainly to test the deodorant set Taunt | Night Shade | Teleport | Recover. The idea here it stall break/deny the bulky psychics (and deny a lot of bulky mons in general) with deo, while still having a slot for teleport to get in some crazy breakers. Enter band loom and sd lycanrock-dusk! Both very scary mons with similar checks and plenty of priority! Scarf flygon cleans and fits rocks, tent is my favorite role compression (and denies vileplume recovery), and rotom-h punishes talonflame which annoys loom and provides some pivoting support!

Replays: 1 2

:deoxys-defense::leftovers: Deoderant
I won't elaborate too much more here since it is in the general description, but taunt night shade deo-d beats a lot of the bulky set up mons that are popular in plaguing this meta. It beats cm cress, demon bronzong, and does well into opposing deod. It also 1v1s basically all of the defensive mons slower than it [plume, vaporeon, umbreon (has to get in safely or be tera'd), amuk (has to tera typically), etc.] Teleport is here to support our breakers that have trouble coming in! Item could just as easily be colbur berry as well to better tank knocks offs.

:Breloom::choice band:Breloom
Breloom here is breaker number 1! Band loom hits hard and the team is designed to get this in to click moves! Loom here is breaking for dusk and/or flygon to clean.

:lycanroc-dusk::life orb:Lycanroc-Dusk
Dusk is here for speed, additional priority (since we don't have many solid defense answers to things), and because what better to abuse the free switch? SD dusk is ridiculously strong and not much can revenge kill it at +2. Dusk doesn't have the most opportunities to SD, but in a more passive meta it is finding more and more times to set up.

:flygon::choice scarf:Flygon
Standard choice scarf flygon here. Has lots of useful resists, cleans late game, revenges things, provides ground/electric immunity, and in this case sets rocks. Scarf rocks flygon is maybe not the ideal rock setter, it gives us the space to run teleport on DeoD which we value here!

:Tentacruel::leftovers:Tentacruel
I've really been enjoying fast tent lately. Tent has great synergy with loom/dusk/flygon denying vileplume's recovery with liquid ooze. Tent also knocks, pivots, and has a fast toxic which deod enjoys. For what we can't always muscle through, we can toxic/deod through! Toxic isn't essential to this team it's mainly to punish cress/deod, so it could be sludge bomb or another move here. I just like toxic in this meta.

:rotom-heat::heavy duty boots:Rotom-Heat
Rotom provides another pivot, wisp support (catches a lot of gallade and flygon which the teams enjoys the burn on), a talonflame punish, and a special attacker to round out the team! I think rotom should keep wisp for sure, but you could also go pain split over nasty plot. I think this slot could be changed potentially if you want to experiment with the team though. OTR diancie makes sense but I didn’t like the 1 time nature of it here. A different electric type like raikou could be used potentially, but I like the wisp and levitate.

As to not let LessThanThreeMan automatically win, here's a team of mine for the thread.

1721083505527.png1721083653225.png1721083669157.png1721083693099.png1721083717022.png1721083737175.png

CB Loom + Cosmic Deo-D
This team uses Breloom to break stuff down for Mienshao to clean while utilizing a strong defensive core to not be overwhelmed.
:breloom::choice band:: CB Breloom helps wallbreak for Mienshao, as it can weaken down Dragalge, Talonflame, and Sylveon for it. I chose Aerial Ace as an easy way to hit Vileplume. Tera Fire helps Breloom absorb Will-O-Wisp and take any Fire-type attack once.

:swampert::leftovers:: Roar over Knock Off helps versus the fat setup sweepers and Swampert provides a reliable Fire-type switch-in. As a physical wall, Tera Fairy also helps it take Fighting-type attacks better, and it can help against Flygon.

:talonflame::heavy-duty boots:: Defog + U-turn lets Talonflame provide hazard control and it can bring Breloom in on Rock- and Water-types alike. The EVs help outpace Inteleon while being as bulky as possible. Tera Ghost avoids Extreme Speed from Lucario.

:deoxys-defense::rocky helmet:: This is a sturdy Fighting-type switch-in. Psychic Noise + Night Shade gives Cresselia no breathing room while Cosmic Power lets Deoxys-D act as a wincon in some games. Rocky Helmet punishes the Fighting-types—and, from experience from facing this team, it makes Cinccino annoying to load up with. The EV spread outpaces max Speed Cresselia with the rest dumped into Special Defense with Tera Steel for the best chance versus it.

:muk-alola::leftovers:: This is a good Ghost-type switch-in. RestTalk with Tera Water lets it reliably take stray Hydro Pump and Fire Blast from Inteleon and Chandelure, respectively.

:mienshao::choice scarf:: Choice Scarf Mienshao acts as a strong Speed control option. Stone Edge hits Talonflame, and Tera Dark is chosen as a strong defensive Tera type just in case.
Rabia's Games
Pokeaim's Games
Note: The team used in these games has slight modifications:
- Tera Rock + Rock Tomb > Tera Fire + Aerial Ace on Breloom
- Clear Smog > Poison Jab on Alolan Muk
- max Speed on Talonflame
- Tera Fighting > Tera Dark on Mienshao.
this is a new team, clearly :)

:breloom::dragalge::Copperajah::talonflame::vaporeon::flygon:
Shagg 51 presents to you…

Breloom+Dragalge Balance! Or, as I call it, Dragaloom!

This team uses the offensive prowess of breloom and dragalge to break through the opposing team, with breloom and dragalge luring in checks for eachother, while the rest of the team holds the fort down long enough.

:breloom::loaded dice:with an adamant nature, breloom hits incredibly hard, and without the restrictions of a choice band, it becomes very flexible and difficult to switch into if you aren’t using a vileplume or Galarian slowbro. Breloom usually capitalizes on a team’s rocker, and it especially enjoys seeing Swampert on the opposing team, as that is often the team’s switch in to dragalge. Breloom is just fast enough to outspeed a max speed modest sylveon, and the rest went into bulk. Tera ghost is for the lucario matchup, which I will happily over prepare for with a team like this.

:dragalge::choice specs: every time someone sends out their vileplume to check breloom, this menace comes in and claims a kill. Specs dragalge is absolutely badass and can easily take advantage of and conquer pokemon that give breloom trouble like vileplume, toxicroak, and Galarian slowbro if necessary. Dragalge hits hard enough with it’s stabs, so I opted for Tera blast ground as my coverage option, as it’s fully capable of bringing down pesky checks like klefki and alolan muk. This dragalge is just fast enough to outspeed vaporeon. This Mon has genuinely surprised me and I think more people need to use it. Its amazing!

:Copperajah::leftovers: the team’s psychic check and special wall as well as the rocker. Copperajah keeps the former 2 members safe from strong psychic types like Deoxys defense, cresselia, munkidori, Indeedee, and other mons like sylveon and opposing dragalge. While it does struggle against the plethora of strong fighting types and physical attackers in the tier(Lucario rahhhhhhhhhhhhh), the defensive utility and support it’s able to provide makes up for it usually. Not to mention that it can hit quite hard with iron head and knock off.

:talonflame::heavy duty boots: my hazard removal, revenge killer, and usual fighting check. Not much else to say about it. It does what you expect talonflame to do.

:vaporeon::leftovers: the primary physical wall of the team. Like talonflame. There’s nothing special or flashy about this vaporeon. Just simple and reliable. It’s vulnerable to being overworked in some matchups, but it usually gets the job done just fine.

:flygon::choice scarf: lastly, we have my primary revenge killer, scarfer, and ground type: Flygon. The moveset is quite self explanatory. Flygon’s speed allows it to offensively check dangerous threats like chandelure, lycanroc dusk, and opposing Flygon if need be. Stone edge is good for deleting talonflame and Tera normal is specifically for taunt Deoxys defense, assuming it’s running night shade.

:breloom: :feraligatr: :galvantula: :flygon: :klefki: :talonflame:

Jack of All Trades Breloom

Breloom loves having Technician to power up its moves, but hates being statused. Poison Heal mitigates that, but many sets with that ability tend to be more passive/stally. This team's Loom uses an offensive Facade set with Tera Steel to enable SD setup on Vileplume and, potentially, Tflame (if no Blitz). The rest of the team is standard Webs + Gatr, scarf Gon with rocks, and Taunt Tflame to help mitigate DeoD et al. Finally, Klefki is there for more hazards, Foul play for setup mons like Cloyster sans Drill Run (although you can Tera Water), and Iron Defense to allow you to boost alongside physical attackers you want to Foul Play if necessary.

Glowbro Balance + Dice Loom
by Wadley and Shengineer

:breloom::incineroar::inteleon::avalugg::slowbro-galar::Gastrodon:

This fat balance build seeks to break the opponent with SD Dice Breloom and SD Incineroar, while using Scope Lens Inteleon as a pivot to complete the FWG core. Avalugg is an exceptionally bulky wall to check grounds like Flygon, while Slowbro-Galar is a status-spreading Regenerator pivot that helps versus fighting types. Finally, specially defensive Gastrodon rounds the team out with a water immunity, hazard setting, and Clear Smog to slow down dangerous sweepers. This slot was initially a flygon, but the priority was not as necessary with Breloom on the team, and Diancie was a bit problematic.

S1W1: Breloom Results
That's all for the first week of Season 1! The votes are in and the winner is...

Dragaloom by Shagg51
:breloom::dragalge::Copperajah::talonflame::vaporeon::flygon:

Congrats to Shagg51 for winning this week of NUTC! Shengineer and Wadley's team was a close second only 1 point behind! This team will be added to the archive and we will be back soon for Season 1 Week 2! Stayed tuned!

Season 1, Week 2: Porygon-Z

:sv/porygon-z:

With the loss of Rhyperior, Assault Vest Reuniclus, and the slappable Magnezone, Porygon-Z has singlehandedly rose from a middle-of-the-road wallbreaker to one of the best. And, with three amazing abilities to choose from it can take advantage of physical walls, nuke stuff with Tri Attack, or pressure switches. Alongside this, Porygon-Z also has quite a few sets to be used! Choice Specs and Choice Scarf easily come to mind just like Nasty Plot (or you can pull shenanigans with Agility). Who knows? You could be like Shengineer and use Choice Band! Don't forget to read through the formatting requirements if you are unfamiliar and to include at least one replay!

Submissions close for Season 1 Week 2 on Tuesday, July 23rd at around 10pm EST (GMT -6). Happy building!

Specs PZ + Oricorio-Pom-Pom
The idea behind this team was that Porygon-Z and Incineroar were very good at softening up and taking care of the Flying-resistant Rock- and Steel-types of the tier, creating an opening for Oricorio-E late-game.
1721446437233.png
: I went for Adaptability on my Choice Specs Porygon-Z as to not have to rely on my opponents' EV spreads to be a dangerous wallbreaker. Shadow Ball is required coverage to hit Ghost-types while Thunderbolt provides a strong neutral move to click. For the last move, Trick was chosen to annoy setup sweepers and bulky walls alike. Tera Ghost allows Shadow Ball to be boosted by Adaptability, and it helps avoid nasty Close Combat from Fighting-types.

1721446652797.png
: To make use of Porygon-Z's ability to force switches into specially defensive walls that are 2HKOed anyways, I enlisted Mienshao. Mienshao provides speed control, deals with pesky Rock- and Steel-types, and is good at pivoting Porygon-Z in on physical walls. Tera Fighting boosts Close Combat to insane levels.

1721446860552.png
: As the first two Pokemon I chose lose to Chandelure and kin, I chose a wall for those Pokemon. To lure in Diancie, I ran Iron Head over U-turn to OHKO it after a Swords Dance because this opens up both Porygon-Z for wallbreaking and Oricorio-E for sweeping. Tera Fairy is also quite useful to take a stray Fighting-type attack.

1721447160197.png
: As a physical wall, Swampert fits well in here. It provides a Ground-type, a hazard setter, a way to beat Fire-types easily, and it pivots. Tera Fairy is also nice to become a real Fighting resist.

1721447265922.png
: Brambleghast also compresses a few much-needed roles. It gives the team a removal option, provides a decent Fighting resist, and can act as a semi-wallbreaker able to take care of Diancie and fat Water- and Ground-type walls. Tera Fairy helps to resist Dark-type attacks while not giving up your advantage over Fighting-types.

1721447450493.png
: Oricorio-E benefits a ton from being on this team. It has Diancie dealt with, it has multiple ways to clear Steel-types, and it's given many opportunities to set up thanks to Trick, pivoting, and being Ground immune. Taunt is very annoying on Oricorio-E, as it basically beats every wall because of it. Tera Steel is also nice to ignore Toxic and to better handle attacks when setting up. The only issue with this Pokemon is I have lost countless games due to a Hurricane miss while just trying to get replays on this team (I did the math, I truly did get below 70% of my Hurricane hitting. :/ ).
