Sports NBA Thread: 2024-2025 Season

can someone explain this in pokemon terms for the people who don’t know anything about the nba? (myself)

when im bored at school I will just do stupid things like take the two best players on two teams and trade them for one another, like tatum for KD, and this trade is literally that in real life wth :totodiLUL: also if anyone of you watch solz and sage I'm so excited to see solz reaction to two of his pookies on the same team

spurs did great but kings also did amazing on that deal

lavine (who is definitely worse, but not that much of a drop off from fox) and three firsts including a likely top five pick for a guy who was likely gonna walk in 26 is amazing

EDIT: charlotte pick is lotto protected, if it doesnt convey this year it's two seconds. lame.

Yall pray for the Sixers.
I’m trying man. I really am. I think last night was a new low though. Blowing a 26 point lead to the Celtics is brutal (Celtics are good obviously I just hate them more than anything so that’s why it stings extra hard)

I didn't understand what my basketball friends meant by "flop merchant" until I watched the Sixers play. I hope they suck for as long as Embiid is on their team.
:fukyu:

As for Luka/LeBron I don’t think this gets them a championship but it’s hilarious that this happened. Dallas royally fucked up here.

I’m excited for the Spurs/Thunder rivalry in the years to come. Should be sick.

lol I watched some of that sixers game where they were cooking and just splashing so many threes and celtics couldn't hit shit, then in a moment they can turn it on out of nowhere, thats what makes them a championship team

I'm sayin it now, the Thunder and Cavs are the best defense and offensive teams respectively, practically conference finals locks
I would probably put a parlay with them two and maybe a team like Memphis or Denver that have really impressed me thus far, I would stay away from Boston and New York they have players who've experienced lengthy injuries before

doing a luka rebuild in 2k and the lakers beat the mavericks by 3 in game 7, went to the conference finals and lost to 8 seeded Wemby and the Spurs who beat Thunder and Nuggets, idk if 2k stupid or we are in for some fun times :tymp:

baffling trade, but what's crazier is that the Mavs didn't shop him out to anyone else. Taking the first offer available is just bad negotiating

I'm all in on there being some sort of conspiracy theory behind this trade btw. All the reporting we're getting centres around the mavs gm being the dumbest fucking person on the planet, which makes sense in the light of this trade. The thing is, it's fairly inconsistent with the fact that they managed to build a contender in the first place, particularly with last season's acquisitions of Gafford and Washington. The general opinion of most fans (based on my unreliable anecdotal observations), was that the gm was doing a good job. Then all of a sudden his brain turns to mush and he trades Luka for (almost) nothing. That's really weird.

On top of that, if there was some kind of interference from the owners/league, it's kind of his role in that scenario to be the fall guy and take the heat so no-one looks into anyone else.

I could definitely see it, but Adam Silver is way too smart to risk the entire league to bring a star from a big market to the biggest market. He cares about the game. If this got out it would be over. Biggest sports scandal following the biggest trade ever would make this an even crazier year.

It is insane how loud that cavs crowd was last night, unfortunate that there was a bricklaying crew on the court. I loved Ian Eagles reaction to that dunk.

Lakers trade idea:
There is a whole host of big men to go after like Mitch Rob, Time Lord, or Walker Kessler to give the lakers more size. I think a good solution for them is Clint Capela who really isn't doing much on the plummeting hawks. The hawks can get assets for an expiring and give more minutes to okongwu.
Lakers receive:
Clint Capela

Hawks receive:
Rui Hachimura
3 2nd Round Picks

Pretty basic. The Hawks could use a temporary Jalen Johnson replacement, and I don't think they want the spurs to get a top 10 pick. The Lakers also don't have to give up there first like they probably would for any of those other guys listed. On another topic who could've guessed that the NBA trade deadline would overshadow the hype for the freakin superbowl.

Butler has been traded. About time. Mark Williams has been traded as well. I'm a Hornets fan so that really sucks. At the same time Knecht and a first is really solid compensation. It's crazy that Dalton slid to the 18th pick or whatever which even allowed this to happen. Ingram to the Raptors is really cool. I'm not a fan of him but Masai kinda cooked with this one.

WHAT A TRADE DEADLINE FELLAS

Hate that it came at Luka's expense but boy do I like Max Christie dude is a baller and still getting better. Beating the Celtics on the road down 3 starters makes me feel a little better after the miserable weekend we really needed that lol.

I'm looking forward to seeing the defensive upside of this team once we get ad and lively back as upset as I am over the Luka trade this team is still very talented.

only 1 quarter so super early kneejerk reaction but ad with 14/8/3 1 block and suffocating def but mavs playing incredible high energy def cruising vs rockets. This team looks really really good lol

got sloppy once pj got hurt at the end of the first half and then ad again in the third but the starting lineup when healthy looked special just as it has been all year injuries are killer

i didnt realize how many wins denver had racked up lately, even though it was a weak schedule still really impressive. (as a celtics fan) i hope they can give OKC a hard time in the playoffs bc for a while it looked like they were gonna have a free path through the west vs us playing cleveland in the conference finals. in 2022 especially you could really tell how worn down our guys were in the finals by that brutal path, really important to save your stamina

imo rn its okc>>boston>cleveland>>>>>>>>>rest (knicks and denver next but that would be like less than 5% chance for me)
