Sports NBA Thread: 2024-2025 Season

I'm pissed off. They seriously need to lower the amount of games in a season to 70 or maybe 72 because of how many injuries there are now. I mean these dudes play basketball their entire lives and once they get to the league their body just breaks down. It doesn't help that the game is as high octane as ever and back-to-backs are super common. Modern medicine is great and all but there's only so much we can do. They've even added more games with the play-in tournament.

NBA cup has been relatively good with most of everybody playing besides Chet and the magic gang. I mean my eyes are practically glued to the win or go home games, super fun. That is until the 15th billion tmobile or gambling ad comes up and I go watch something else.

first analysis from me since ive been busy:

I bought Embiid for fantasy, bro is really not good. I think even if he got his health in order in a sense where he can stay on the floor I don't think he'll be more than a 25 / 10 / 5 type player (This is best case scenario). I've watched a lot of doctor videos in regard to his injury and its always bad news; he'll never be the same player especially with the constant wear and tear. I don't think Embiid will touch 35 years old and still be in the NBA (honest opinion). Bro is about to be 31 in a month and only has 446 games under his belt (That's 446/82 = 5.4 full seasons). Like I'm being harsh but Embiid will not be the same again is my point, he plays like hes in his mid 30s.

Luka Doncic...bro this guy. Like my favorite player but bro can't stay healthy and get fit. Like he loves eating idk what it is, skinny Luka '18 - '20 was like one of the best players I ever seen, and ever since the he just doesn't have a lot of hop in his step, and is so injury prone (not like big bro above but yeah). Mavs have a team to win it all, their issues right now is the Luka injury as well as Derek Lively.

Shai vs Jokic argument: Jokic is having the greatest offensive season in NBA history @ me, bro is averaging 30 / 13 / 10 w/ 3.0 turnovers a game...shooting 56 from the field and 47 from three...lol. If Nuggets like finish the season 55-27 I can see bro winning MVP (deservingly so). I think Shai is a great player, definitely a free-throw merchant but definitely top 3 players right now in the NBA, his team is doing fantastic and he's doing it very efficiently as a guard. I don't know if voter fatigue will catch up for him but yeah, both are deserving but it's hard not to look at Jokic and be like this is a top 10 player of all time we're witnessing...insane numbers, insane efficiency, and he is the difference on his team, where Shai could be injured and the Thunder could still win.

edit: jokic is averaging 2 steals too!!!

I didn't understand what my basketball friends meant by "flop merchant" until I watched the Sixers play. I hope they suck for as long as Embiid is on their team.

I may be a Knicks fan but I was a kid during Iverson's glory years (like McNabb despite them being in Philly some of my favs growing up). If he was on them now he'd be coming off the top rope on Embiid and the rest of the franchise.

yeah me too

Based on what I'm reading, Luka didn't force his way out. The Mavs front office chose to do this. I can only assume that ownership didn't want to pay a supermax contract, and Nico Harrison is falling on the sword right now. There simply is not any way that any GM in sports would willingly do this.

Luka didn't ask for this yeah they actually asked Lakers if they were interested because they were very concerned about Luka's conditioning and health going forward with the supermax soon as Luka is apparently up to 270 pounds after the recent injury. However regardless of that you don't simply trade away a top 3 player just now entering his prime lmao.

I'm in my conspiracy bag over this. This trade is so inconceivable that it could not possibly have been the GM's idea. They fucking walked up to the Lakers and offered them Luka. Even if they actually are that worried about Luka's health/conditioning, they could have gotten a way bigger haul if they had shopped him around to even a few more teams. Something more is going on here. There has to be.

can someone explain this in pokemon terms for the people who don’t know anything about the nba? (myself)
Dallas had a team which included a lvl 95 Mewtwo that was grinding towards level 100. They for no reason decided trade that for a level 80 Clefable that can't level up any more because old

They also could've asked for several pokemon the Lakers catch in the future, but instead all they asked for was 1 such pokemon

Oh, and keep in mind that Dallas have for several years been building their team to support a Mewtwo sweep

Idk if that's the best explanation, but it'll do

I can't fucking believe the GM is actually trying to justify this. Trading away Luka is like you've already won the lottery, then deciding to light all that money on fire and announcing to everyone that you're going back to buying lottery tickets
