Sports NBA Thread: 2023-2024 Season

as a knicks fan i hate to say i predicted boston taking this (and maybe some of this is juju hoping Mavs spark themselves through - and if they do i'd be amped but we all know better) it looks like they will.
if they are to sweep or win in 5/6 tho.. ya know teams gonna come for em cus thats that comes being Boston and having all those titles, even as a Knicks head i know that. teams always wanna "Shut up Boston" next year will be fun. I wouldnt be shocked if it's Mavs v Boston again tbh.
(not tryna write it off before it's done, but it sees the same as the NHL playoffs - one team been there and seen what it took and lost and knows what it takes to win now vs a team learning the first half now)

Can we all agree Luka never improved all that much on defense and that he needs to finally take the offseason seriously and get in shape? And stop being a whiny ass?

He's better than Harden but they sure share the same weaknesses.

As for the Mavericks... the central question posed by me was can they guard in space?

And that answer was a resounding hell no. This is yet another reminder that the playoffs work in a vacuum; matchups are the game no matter what we've seen previous series.

Wolves only appeared more scary because they beat the Nuggets, but then got trampled by the Mavericks only to then be trampled by the Celtics we looked down on all playoffs despite their dominance over injured teams. All of these series were just a matter of matchup advantages (well, the Wolves don't switch, but if they did!)

Mavs got to the finals entirely by packing the paint and not facing lethal three point threats. There was zero evidence of them guarding in space and being more than just an okay three-point shooting team. This collapse was inevitable.

Maybe Luka can try not dominating the ball so much and actually save some gas in the tank for D. Kyrie can run offense sometimes, no?

He got to the Finals by bitching at the refs after every play and leaving his team shorthanded in transition defense, so who knows?

people keep bringing up this video on twitter (and say what happened to him) yeah he needs to get back in this shape, he was quick, he moved so well now he plays like he's in his late 30s

Congratulations to the Boston Celtics on becoming NBA Champions for the 18th time! The Pistons took this team to OT, just saying.

Honestly shoutout to all the Celtics fans, y’all deserve it. This is coming from a Mavs fan, yall had the best team this season. Thanks for everyone commenting throughout the season and making this an excellent thread to read.

I hope Mavs make some trades specifically good role players that fit the 3 and D mold as well as Luka being healthy and losing some weight to help him on the defensive end, he’s not as quick as he once was.

"BREAKING: The Brooklyn Nets have agreed in principle on a trade to send F Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks for Bojan Bogdanovic, four unprotected first-round picks, a protected first-round pick via Bucks, an unprotected pick swap and a second-rounder, sources tell ESPN."

insane trade, all those unprotected picks :zonger:
but i already thought the knicks were the main challenger to the celtics in the east before this, makes sense that they're going all in
praying for a real series between these two at full health next year, would be incredible

The NBA version of the Stafford/Goff trade?

the knicks are giving up five first round picks (and bogan) for mikal bridges? when these knicks have won one meaningful playoff series and got bounced by the pacers? seems like the stafford / goff trade but one team punctured their femoral artery

the bucks lost less to get dame

(i understand this could depend on interpreting jrue's value, but as a bucks fan when the team sorely needed consistent offense outside giannis, that's my opinion at least)
