Garchomp ft. Salamence

Hello lovely community,
welcome to my (officially) second RMT. There is no actual theme I used. I basically named 5 of my Pokes after albums of Eminem, the sixth Poke is also related on Eminem but we will hit that later ;D
As the title reveals this team is built around Garchomp and Salamence. You can agree that Garchomp and Salamence look awesome as hell and being immediate threats.

Ladys and Gentlemen! It's SHOWTIME! Hurry, hurry, step right up! Introducing the star of our show... his name is...

Team-Building Process

Two mighty dragons should be a good base to build a team :P To work against their weaknesses and since weather dominates the current metagame the next Pokes were pretty easy to choose.

445.png

With Ferrothorn and Rotom rain shouldn't be a problem anymore. Stealth Rock is provided with Ferrothorn. Rotom checks sun quite well (except Chlorophyll Pokes) and walls specific threats. Having Volt Switch on Rotom I decided to go for a special VoltTurn combo.

Landorus-T's access to U-turn gives me the necessary momentum. It also walls pretty much any physical threat besides the one's with access to ice moves. In this case Rotom jumps in. Landorus and Salamence both provide intimidate which is another reason to go for Landorus-T. Okay, we have a defense Core, 2 dragons and a scarfer. This team lacks a spinner.

Starmie is awesome, you have to love it. Yaa...

In Depth

Recovery (Garchomp) (M) @
choiceband.png

Trait: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Fire Fang / Fire Blast
- Dual Chop

Basically the finest Powerhouse. Garchomp is named after, in my opinion, best Eminem album, Recovery. Excellent Bulk, excellent Attack, excellent Speed and great type coverage, should've stayed in the Uber-tier. Garchomp blasts important wholes into the enemy's team. His use is varied, he's able to attempt a late game sweep with Outrage or EQ or deals out huge damage to Pokes I couldn't at least 2HKO with the others like Reuniclus. Rough Skin can be useful against Scizor to provide a safe kill with EQ.
The moveset is pretty standard. The only one to check Garchomp is Skarmory if I have Fire Fang. Choice Banded Outrage is just devastating, destroys potential defensive threats (besides Skarmory...) by 2HKOing them. Although Garchomp's job is not to take out steel types, after SR and certain weak Outrage tears them apart. Stab EQ, as mentioned before, basically gets rid of things like Scizor and then, if i took out levitates and flying types, cleaning up. Especially defensive rain teams are getting destroyed by EQ. While we talk about weather, If I don´t see Hidden Power Ice on Venusaur, Garchomp can easily take an unboosted Giga Drain and 1hko a full health Venusaur with EQ. Fire Fang obviously for Steel - Bug/Grass types by name Forretress, Ferrothorn or Breloom. I chose Dual Chop instead of Dragon Claw because I HATE substitute, I don't care about the loose of accuracy.
EVs and nature is pretty obvious, outspeeds naive Landorus and Mence.

Encore (Starmie) @
leftovers.png

Trait: Natural Cure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 42 SAtk / 216 Spd
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Recover

As mentioned, Starmie is awesome. With access to recover this thingy won't die. Especially against rain teams Starmie shines bright like a diamond. By burning politoed (hopefully, had a match with about 15 scald and no burn) and Tentacruel gives me huge advantage especially against Tentacruel to nullifiy his recovery by rain dish and black sludge. It also counters Deoxys-D. Most of those teams running Deoxys-D also have Gengar as a Spinblocker, but not with me. With Psyshock and enough Speed to outspeed a timid Gengar, Starmie is able to spin the entry hazard away and with that 2 Pokes are basically taken out. This is a bulky set to provide even more coverage and to take physical hits very well and creep them with scald burn (again hopefully ^^). But spinning and creeping is not the only usage of Starmie. With a base speed of 115 it outspeeds Pokes like Terrakion or Espeon and these 42 EVs gives Starmie a bit extra power to actually take out such Pokes. As I said, you have to love it.

Relapse (Landorus-Therian) (M) @
choicescarf.png

Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn
- Hidden Power [Ice]

I´m not sure but I feel like this Poke needs to be in every team. As I said before, having decent bulk, Intimidate and good attack stats, this is a huge defensive threat. But it seems like I was right. A lot of teams run that one defensive set. So I decided to go for a scarfed variant, giving me some sort of a surprising effect and being a good lead to scout for instance which Politoed I'm facing at the moment. Pokes like SD Lucario aren't threatening anymore. 91 Base Speed is enough to revenge kill certain threats and more important to tear Volcarona apart with Stone Edge. U-turn, as we all know, holds the momentum but also, going back to that surprising effect, hits Latias pretty hard. Equally important is the fact that after dealing certain damage to Deoxys-D, Landorus is able to finish it off with U-turn. Hidden Power Ice can give me a huge advantage for the whole battle. As soon as I find out that the opposing Landorus-T is a defensive pivot I can lure his Landorus to switch into mine and finish him off with HP Ice. And we all know what going to happen next... The powerhouse is ready to devastate.

Kim (Ferrothorn) (F) @
leftovers.png

Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Atk / 84 Def / 92 SDef
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Thunder Wave
- Power Whip

You are probably asking yourself why I'm naming my Ferrothorn after Marshall's ex wife. Let me quote Eminem. From: " 'Till I Collapse"

My thoughts are sporadic, I act like I'm an addict
I rap like I'm addicted to smack like I'm Kim Mathers
Just like Kim Mathers, Ferrothorn is actually addicted to hits with his amazing defensive stats. The beginning of each match (especially against rain) is quite similar. U-turn with Landorus, then Ferro and straight for SR. This set isn`t the typical stalling set. With access to moves like Power Whip and Gyro Ball my intention was offensive. Gyro Ball on an Espeon which tries to bounce my SR on the switch is mostly a 2HKO. Power Whip is against bulky water Pokes. According to her ability to hit quite hard I put 80 EVs on attack, 94 base attack is not that bad. Besides that I chose Thunder Wave as a 4th move. As you can see my only "revenge killer" is Landorus and he is easily outsped by Latios. To make such Pokes useless Thunder Wave is just the right move there. Another advantage I have is that most people concentrate on killing Ferrothorn but what they don`t get is that they play very risky. With the right moves and predictions, even if I have to sacrify Ferrothorn, I'll have good perspectives to win the match.

Curtain Call (Salamence) (F) @
lifeorb.png

Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 100 Atk / 156 SAtk / 252 Spd
Rash Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Brick Break
- Roost

Part 2 of complete destruction. Mence' ability to lure is excellent. Pokes like Tyranitar are no problem anymore (watch out for chople berry). Mence also provides the fear of being destroyed by a Draco Meteor or Outrage. If they switch into their steel types, by name ferro or forretress, a Fire Blast should be enough to take them out. Especially taking out Skarmory is very important to release the powerhouse. Double Intimidate works out pretty well. Mence counters Breloom, another important fact. Roost gives Mence reliable recover

Infinite (Rotom-Wash) @
leftovers.png

Trait: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 112 Def / 148 SDef
Calm Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

Rotom is a very important member, mostly because it counters Mamoswine. Volt Switch, as mentioned, is part of the VoltTurn combo. I put 112 EVs on defensive to counter SD Scizor. I had a match earlier today, a +4, after I burned it, Superpower made about 70% and that's just awesome. Rotom is also a good check for scarfed dragons, which is quite important because I have nothing to revenge kill them.

Thanks a lot for reading my RMT and hopefully there are some suggestions to make my team better :)

This is a very interesting team that combines two dragons and volt-turn. My first comment would be to replace fire moves on garchomp with aqua tail. If find a spot for magnezone on your team, removing steel types(that resist your dragon type moves) should be much easier. Hydro pump on starmie offers 1.5 times the power, without the 30% scald chance. Hydro pump offers the extra power you need to get that KO. Ice beam should replace recover, because starmie isn't going to be able to take very many hits. Plus, you can revenge kill dragons, which wreck your team bar ferrothorn. You should also find some form of priority user. Perhaps scarf scizor instead of scarf landorus. The same goes for salamence. You should replace roost with dragon claw. Overall this is a very good team, and with a few improvements, should do very well.

Hey there,

A nice weatherless you got there. From what I see, there aren't any glaring weaknesses, which is always nice. However, here are somethings to consider. I'd recommend changing Salamence into a Choice Scarf variant. With a scarf attached, Salamence can revenge kill or clean up late game as needed. Since your Garchomp is doing wallbreaking for you, having two of them can just be unneeded. As a plus, if you are facing a Volcarona, you will have an easier time facing it with Salamence as it has a better chance of taking a strong Fire hit than your Landorus. If you apply this change, you will have two Choice Scarf users, which can be rather redundant and end up being more of a pain than a pleasure. With that said, I recommend changing Landorus-T's item to Leftovers and the set to the defensive pivot set. This set helps greatly with opposing physical attackers such as Terrakion or Scizor, which can be a threat to any team they face. As a plus, Landorus-T can learn Stealth Rock, which can allow your Ferrothorn to use Spikes instead, so you can have more hazards on your opponent's side of the field. One last thing, your Ferrothorn's moveset seems a bit off. Thunder-Wave + Gyro Ball seems quite redundant. With that said, consider changing Thunder-Wave to Leech Seed, which can give your team some nice healing support.

Landorus-T (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 60 Atk / 200 Def
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- U-Turn
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock

Ferrothorn
Stealth Rock ---> Spikes
Thunder-Wave ---> Leech Seed

Salamence (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Outrage
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast

Great team and good luck!

Hello Shadyx3. Looking at your team, I notice that you are fairly weak to sun teams. In particular Venusaur gives you trouble. The standard special growth Venusaur can set up a growth on your Rotom-W or your Landorus-T if you choose to continue running the scarf set and get locked into the wrong move, which will often happen if you use it to revenge kill the powerful physical fire types also found on sun teams. Once Venusaur has a growth boost, it can outspeed and OHKO your entire team. Unfortunately right now I am a bit crunched for time, so I will edit in how you should deal with it later, when I get back, unless someone else has done this by then. Other than that, great team, good luck, and sorry about having to delay the solution to this problem.

Edit: To solve your Venusaur issues, I recommend replacing Starmie with offensive Latias. Latias deals with Venusaur well while not losing Starmie's ability to take on rain teams. The issue that it has is that like most of the rest of your team, it is ice weak. However, all this means is that there will be more strain on Ferrothorn and Rotom-W, who handle ice types and there moves pretty well. Here is the set.

The Eminem Show (Latias) @ Life orb
Timid nature ability: levitate
4hp/252spa/252spe
Draco meteor/hp fire/psyshock/recover

Good luck with the team. I quite like it.

A very good team dude, I ran a similar team with mix Hydreigon with mix dragonite. I do see a very big ice weakness, 3 of your pokes are x4 weak against it. Mamoswine, cloyster and anything else that runs an ice type move for that matter can ohko your power houses. So I suggest you run HP grass on rotom so you can easily switch in, resist the ice shard and retaliate with HP grass
