Game Freak hit with another hack, info leaking

Perhaps not very surprising, but Victini wasn't always before Snivy in the Unova dex order. Sometime in April 2010, they changed the order of the Unova pokémon, so that "Victi" (Victini's wip name) was first.

Interestingly, data for two Kyurem forms were added during development, but eventually scrapped in May 2010, presumably being saved for the sequels instead.

Is there a link to the full list of the names? I always like seeing the codenames they have at this point of development. It's funny to see Keldeo codenamed explicitly with D'artanis

DYK Gaming LIED TO US!!!

More seriously, I wonder what it means for Pokemon Gray/BW2? If they did have those forms in development, it would imply at this point they decided either they would do sequels instead of a normal third version or the third version would have both fusion forms in it. I know Platinum had a new form for Giratina, but two new forms for its mascot would still be an interesting choice.

This list has all the name changes during BW's development. The earliest names are a mix of WIP names and codenames. I don't know if there is a full list of the actual codenames like the asset indexes in later gens. If there is, I haven't heard about it/found it yet.

And yes, the other Swords of Justice are indeed explicity the Three Musketeers too.

Or that they would do two third versions like with USUM

Masuda said this in the Iwata Asks about B2W2:

“I'm Masuda from GAME FREAK. As for why we're releasing two, we thought of a game mechanic to put in when we were developing Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version, but we didn't have enough time to do it. We needed two games for that, so this time we decided to make two.”

(That particular game mechanic was the key system.)

In that same interview, Masuda says it was Satoru Iwata who suggested that they should do something different from the usual third versions, which led to Masuda thinking of making sequels instead. So I think there were probably always going to be two “Gray” games; it’s just a question of what narrative shape they would take.

I love that Audino's code name was basically "new clefairy". Like, not the inspiration I think of with that Pokemon...

This made me think of how they copypasted base stats of old pokémon to use as a basis for the Unova pokémon. Most of them are straightforward, like copying a line of the same type or similar vibe, while some of them are ..not.

Guess what gen v pokémon had Tauros as its basis?

Reading some of the translated BW1 leader profiles, fascinating to see what changed revision to revision.

Lenora went from 5'10 to 5'3, husband + 1 kid, unmarried and hates men due to daddy issues, to having a husband with 3 kids but hating handsome men. Huge family was a consistent part in all of them, and the latter revisions had her kids working in the museum too but I think that part got cut in the final. Seems like she had glasses & a lab coat for a while too....really should have kept that instead of moving to the apron. I wonder if they still consider her partly British (which from how they're talking about her race, sounds like its specifically British caucasion like the triplets I figure)or if that got cut in future revisions.

Everyone talked about sexy sky pilot j-lo inspired Skyla but I didnt' see as many people mention that her original concept was being the 8th gym leader and a musician. She got a complete overhaul compared to everyone else (except I assume Iris, who isnt translated but I see was the 6th leader at first).

It's a shame we don't have similar documentation for the other generation leaders, seeing the stuff they write up and tweak over time is really interesting.

As we get more fragments of Southern Kalos it's remarkable just how SWSH/SV DLC area-coded the whole thing is. An extension of Kalos with Hoopa and Volcanion as a pair of "mascots" mostly focusing on wilderness and dungeons. I really do wonder if the switch to DLC was at all motivated by a desire to make sure a cut like this could never happen again

Where are you getting your leaked info? I'm using the PokeLeaks Reddit but it doesn't have stuff you mentioned or it appears later.

And the very next game after XY (ORAS) was the first one that let you just catch a mythical Pokémon in the normal game without any special event. I wonder if that's a coincidence? Maybe at one stage they were planning on fully moving to that model if 2/3 of Kalos' mythicals shared that?

It does feel like GF's thoughts on Mythicals were changing at this point, especially when we get to LGPE, BDSP, and LA having Mythicals locked behind having owned another game title. I wonder if GF was just seeing the ever growing number of Mythicals (heck in XY there's just as many Mythicals as there is new Legendaries) and deciding keeping them event locked was both a waste and started to be a hassle.

EDIT: Just so there's more substance to this post:

Apparently this is the correct order of the LA cut intro:

jq6k9weo6cwd1.png

I guess it makes sense. Starts as any core series does with the Professor Intro, zooms out to reveal a normal kid's room as the protag looks at their phone (guessing they're playing at 4 am?). They glance at their door I guess to see if anyone is hearing they're up early, then go to playing some Pokemon. Then a twinkle cracks their phone screen and they're sucked through the TV screen.

And beta roster for Pokken:
https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https://i.redd.it/mmcxlr2og6wd1.png
mmcxlr2og6wd1.png

"Cut" fighters are Gallade, Keldeo, Heracross, Chespin, Pancham, Medicham, Breloom, and Meloette (Piroutte).

Noticeably there was a lot of Fighting-types, since all but Lucario & Blaziken have placeholder images were probably always meant to be "here's the idea of what the roster could be" instead of actual picks as they'd want to have more Types represented.
Notably Chespin and Pancham feel like they were included to also give the idea that not all the Pokemon will be fully evolved, their can be unevolved Pokemon.
Interestingly Croagunk is there who was added as a DLC, so guessing them being "cut" here wasn't a nail in the coffin even though for most of them it was.

I don't know where Dramps is getting his information, but tcrf is where I read the documentation being translated. Here's the current leader profiles https://tcrf.net/Development:Pokémon_Black_and_White/Documents
I assume other places have various translations going as well, but I just stick to tcrf out of convenience and an assumption they'll probably have gone through a proper revision or two.

Same goes for the myth documents I talk about. Incidentally, the Wurmple story is now translated. After all the...rougher...themes present in the other ones, this one is very straight forward & cute.

Honestly I don't really take this image all too seriously as a "beta" Pokken roster. I think it's just a placeholder proof of concept type thing with lots of stock art considering how wildly different it is from the final

Yeah I think most of it is just feeling it out ("here's a bunch of Pokemon with different body types, actual typings and fighting styles" + wouldn't surprise me if Chespin & Pancham in particular might have been there as "could we have an evolve-as-you-battle gimmick?") but some of that artwork does seem to be "proper" concept art so wouldn't surprise me if they were strongly considering Gallade, Breloom, Heracross, Medicham & Croagunk at the onset.

Any supposed internal consistency of real-world fascim falls apart upon closer examination, so maybe this was intentional? Probably not

I always figured it was showcasing Lysandre's hypocrisy. The typical hypocrisy inherent in such extremists. Sort of how a French Revolutionary described his cause of fraternity and liberty "as be my brother or I will kill you."

And in a logical way, having people pay their way ensures greater devotion. They have a skin in the game. I have noticed this in fantasy football. Free leagues are filled with players who never update their rosters. But a paid league with cash prizes has active participants. Folks want to keep and win money.

No soldier serves for free.

That being said, I understand why people view it more than as poor writing than a determined contradiction.
