Research On Light Ball's Effect On Pikachu's Attack Stat
(Thanks to Omegadonut's Analysis thread.)
I know the research thread says that Light Ball doubles Pikachu's Attack as well as Special Attack now, but I've heard reports of it not doing so for at least one regular Pikachu user. I'm holding off on the physical sets for now.
My thoughts:
"Who cares what people SAY? Let's crunch some numbers!"
Pikachu LV 50 (82 att) with Light Orb using Iron Tail on Dewgong LV 46(92 def). Because of Dewgong's typing (Water/Ice) Steel attacks will always hit even numbered damage on it (times .5, rounded down, then multiplied by two):
No boost from Light Orb:
(((((2+(50*2/5))*100*82)/92)/50)+2)*1*(r/100)*1*.5*2= 34-40
Doubled attack from Light Orb:
(((((2+(50*2/5))*100*(82*2))/92)/50)+2)*1*(r/100)*1*.5*2= 68-80
First Turn:
Dewgong uses Aqua Tail on opposing Larvitar- OHKO (less possibility of interference by Dewgong getting hit before I check HP)
Pikachu uses Iron Tail on Dewgong; Iron Tail's effect kicks in and lowers Dewgong's Defense one stage
Opposing Bronzong uses Hypnosis on Pikachu
After the round of battle ends, I check Dewgong's HP. Dewgong, after one Iron Tail from Pikachu, is left at 104/182 HP- Pikachu dealt 78 damage with Iron Tail, which is what was expected if Pikachu's attack stat was doubled due to Light Orb.
Conclusion: Yes, Light Orb DOES double Pikachu's Attack in addition to Special Attack.
Anyone else is obviously free to input their own research, but I am fairly certain this is enough alone. Hard numbers FTW.
