There are a lot of weird, WTF movesets in the tower that seem to catch me off-guard. I've started assuming that if my opponents *can* have an ice move or a flying move, they will. Odd/dangerous pokes I've encountered (the highest I've gotten is 54 battles):

Latias with Psychic, Dragon Claw (IIRC), and Draco Meteor

Crawdaunt with Quick Claw, Arial Ace and Guillotine (the bane of the mid-20s - it always catches my Heracross lead with AA).

Slaking with Giga Impact, Flamethrower, and Blizzard (Completely caught me off-guard - I should have been able to answer it, but my Hera was KO'ed and I wasn't expecting a Blizzard from Slaking).

I lost at 54 to a freakin' Raticate (I was up 2 pokemon to 1) after missing twice and having the Raticate critical hit 3 times in a row.

I'm using Heracross, Regice, and originally a Flygon, now a Gliscor. All EV-trained. Heracross has Choice Band, but I'll probably switch him over to Choice Scarf now that I have enough points to buy it (I bought all the "Power" items first).

i got caught off guard by a frustration staraptor i thought it wasn't going to kill me but it knocked all three of my pokemon out in 1 hit each it took out my glaceon, infernape, and my garchomp.

I really doubt that defensive pokemon have any chance for make a good work inside the BattleTower... but, I could be wrong... Anyway, I prefer hi speed beasts.

Nothing sucks more then losing to a snorlax with fling and recycle. That move really did some big damage on me I didn't expect.

My team is Rhyperior@Leftovers, Togetic@Lum Berry and Ludicolo@Big Root (stupid item clause)

Rhyperior takes Physical attacks with no problem, Togetic and Ludicolo switch in to special attacks and heal it up easily. Ludicolo has Surf as his only attack. I'd say my team is pretty defensive and so far I've saved at the 38 mark. We'll see if I can take the Tycoon at 42 though.

My team depends heavily on switching in to attacks that they can take, though.

The tycoon is battle 49, not 42. My team is all speedy physical sweepers. The only problem I ran into was a random stealh rock skarm, and some rhyperiors, but everything else was pretty easy. Focus sash allows you to survive the OHKO hax the tower seems to like.

I'm up to battle 63. I don't think I can take much more past 70.

You know what? We should formulate a team with all the hax stuff the tower uses against us.

So we have
walrein @quick claw/leftovers
sheer cold
fissure
sleep talk
rest

Sceptile
DT
leech seed
toxic
filler

Anything else for the last slot?

Something that attracts and double teams? That would be lol.

Gengar @ Leftovers
Substitute
Double Team
Attract
Filler Spec. att move.

Nice work. I hope for you and the sake of this thread that you don't run into any OHKO users, which are the pokemon that beat me virtually every time if I lose in the Battle Tower/Frontier.

I've never tried to get to far yet in this game, but I got a winning streak of 37, followed by this game:
I send out: Salamence
Opponent: Walrein
Turn 1:
I switch to Blissey
Walrein uses Sheer Cold: It's a 1 hit KO; Blissey fainted!
I send out: Salamence
Turn 2:
Salamence used Rock Slide (Walrein survived with a minute amount of health left)
Walrein used Sheer Cold: It's a 1 hit KO; Salamence fainted!
I sent out Skarmory.
Turn 3:
Walrein used rest.
Skarmory used Drill Peck
Turn 4:
Walrein used Sleep Talk: Walrein used fissure; doesn't effect Skarmory
Skarmory used Drill Peck
Turn 5:
Walrein used Sleep Talk: Walrein used Sheer Cold: it's a 1 hit KO; Skarmory fainted!

From what I hear, however, this is a rather normal exit...
MauriiDS, congradulations on reaching over 100.

Dang nice job on over 100 wins. Also I really doubt that that happened. I sent out Metagross and the opponent had a Walrein with that same moveset. and it took 3-4 tries for Sheer Cold to work on me. I haven't gotten haxed that bad in the Battle Tower, but in Emerald I did. It seems that they took out a lot of luck from here. But thats just me.

Also I really doubt that that happened.

Well, I obviously can't supply any evidence, but I do know that a Walrein sheer colded away my team; I may have remembered wrong and it could have missed once or maybe even twice; that certainly could have happenned, though, as for sheer cold hitting three times in a row, that has a 2.7% chance of happenning; it isn't exactly impossible (specially if a miss or two was added), and I think in my Saphire some time ago I got something like that when messing around with my Kyogre vs. the Elite 4...
Normally, however, I lose due to stupied mistakes I make of some sort or another.

Very interesting thread as D/P battle tower certainly looks more challenging than previous generations where I made it to 208 wins in sapphire & currently have an active streak of 119 wins in emerald. The furthest I've gone in D/P has been only 24 as I can always make it past that head battle but then get haxed by a speedier pokemon. My emerald team of salamence, blissey & starmie cannot seem to survive here.

I use a team of standards for the battle tower and it does pretty well. I lost on the second tycoon battle though. The legendaries surprised me, I wasn't really ready for them. And toying around against Regigigas wasn't too bright. I use SpecsMence, a TyraniBoah and Evan's Blissey =P

I'm about to try again with a CB Rhyperior over Boah this time.

Yeah, it can definitely can happen emerald, watch this video I made:

Not just OHKO hax, also quick claw hax. Other than beating the tower tycoon in D/P, I haven't spent a lot of time in the BT there yet so I can't attest to whether the hax is as bad. My guess is that I will eventually see the same thing there as well, it's only a matter of time

I hate these two Pokemon in the BT:
Metagross@Quick Claw
~ Meteor Mash
>> It swept my entire team right before I was about to fight Tower Tycoon (Quick Claw activated right before Mamoswine could EQ it)
It then proceeded to kill Cresselia (I got a Reflect, but for the next three turns, Quick Claw activated three times in a row, each time raising attack with Meteor Mash)

Rapidash @ Focus Band
~ Horn Drill

Fought this during double battle, Focus Band activated three times in a row, each time killing either my partner's or my Pokemon...

I got very close to match 49(match 48!), with my team of Gyara, Mence, Cress, but lost to a Stone Edge haxing Cradily and some other shit. Much harder than the Sapphire/Emerald BT.

When I get my Diamond and get to the tower, here is the team I'll probably use:

Infernape@Life Orb
-Flare Drive
-Close Combat
-Stone Edge
-Swords Dance

Garchomp@Choice Band
-Earthquake
-Dragon Claw
-Fire Blast
-Stone Edge

Gyarados@Leftovers
-Waterfall
-Dragon Dance
-Earthquake
-Ice Fang

EV Spreads:
Infernape: 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spd(Jolly)
Garchomp: 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spd(Adamant)
Gyarados:68 HP, 252 Atk, 188 Spd(Adamant)
