Tail Glow (Manaphy) @ Leftovers
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Fairy / Grass
Timid Nature
- Tail Glow
- Surf / Scald
- Energy Ball / Ice Beam
- Alluring Voice / Ice Beam

[SET COMMENTS]
Tail Glow Manaphy puts the spotlight on the power of Tail Glow combined with Manaphy's deep movepool, transforming Manaphy into a powerful wallbreaker. With a single Tail Glow, Manaphy's Surf washes away common walls, 2HKOing Ting Lu, Galarian Slowking, and Assault Vest Iron Crown, as well as threatening to OHKO offensive threats like Great Tusk and Iron Moth without a boost. Alternatively, Scald trades damage for a chance to burn targets like Kingambit or Meowscarada, punishing their attempts to switch into Manaphy. Energy Ball slams Water resists like Primarina, Tera Water Garganacl, and Ogerpon-W, while Alluring Voice threatens Dragon-types like Raging Bolt, Dragonite, and Kyurem, as well as punishing setup opportunities. Either of these can be dropped for Ice Beam, which targets certain Dragon-types like Raging Bolt and Dragonite, having a high chance to 2HKO the former and guaranteeing it on the latter, as well as threatening an OHKO on physically defensive Gliscor. Another option is Substitute, which allows Manaphy to setup comfortably on status spreaders like Galarian Slowking and Tera Water Gliscor, avoid Salt Cure from Garganacl, and punish Thunderclap from Raging Bolt. Tera Fairy is a solid defensive option, easing the matchup into threats like Kyurem, Dragapult, Zamazenta, and Kingambit, as well as neutralizing the matchup into its biggest counters, Ogerpon-W and Raging Bolt. Tera Grass takes the latter a step further by flipping the tables entirely on the aforementioned duo, as well as other threats like Rillaboom and Meowscarada.

With its sheer power but middling speed, Manaphy slots best as a wallbreaker on offensive teams, such as Sticky Web and rain. Araquanid is a natural partner as the cornerstone of the Sticky Web archetype, with its Sticky Web allowing Manaphy to outspeed all threats besides Deoxys-S and Heavy-Duty-Boots users like Zamazenta, giving many opportunities for setup and sweeping. Alternatively, Ribombee is another solid Sticky Web setter, with better matchups into threats like Raging Bolt and Kyurem, that Araquanid can struggle with. Gholdengo and Raging Bolt are strong teammates as well, greatly appreciating Manaphy's excellent matchup into Ting Lu, while the former threatens Kyurem and Iron Valiant as well as preserving the entry hazards that enable Manaphy, and the latter threatens Ogerpon-W, Tera Water Garganacl, and Toxapex. On the physical side, Kingambit and Dragonite pair well with Manaphy, with both taking advantage of Manaphy's wallbreaking against walls like Zamazenta, Corviknight, and Dondozo to clean the weakened teams left in its wake. On rain teams, Pelipper is must have as the only viable Drizzle user in the tier, boosting Manaphy's already powerful Surf to new heights, such as OHKOing Ting Lu after a Tail Glow boost. Pelipper's Drizzle also enables Manaphy's Hydration, washing away status effects that might otherwise cripple it. Darkrai and Iron Valiant are also solid partners, especially appreciating Manaphy weakening walls like Primarina, Ting Lu for the former, and Galarian Slowking for the latter, while Iron Valiant beats Kyurem, and Darkrai threatens Ogerpon-W. In general, hazard removal in Great Tusk or Iron Treads is useful as well, ensuring Manaphy can switch in repeatedly without fear of entry hazards, as well as checking Raging Bolt. Stealth Rock setters like the aforementioned Great Tusk and Iron Treads, as well as Landorus-T and Glimmora are also appreciated by Manaphy, wearing down switch-ins like Ogerpon-W to ease Manaphy's sweep. In addition, Landorus-T and Iron Treads can safely bring Manaphy in through U-Turn and Volt Switch respectively, while Glimmora can clear Toxic Spikes.

Tera Type: Dragon / Poison
Timid Nature

- Stored Power

[SET COMMENTS]
Take Heart Manaphy takes advantage of Manaphy's decent bulk and strong arsenal of boosting moves to power its way through weakened teams. Take Heart and Acid Armor form a potent combo that allows Manaphy to quickly become unkillable and snowball through unprepared teams, especially with Take Heart clearing status that would normally cripple it. Scald complements the set excellently, as a reliable STAB option that can burn threats that Manaphy can struggle with like Kingambit, allowing it to set up on these foes, while wearing down phasers like Ting Lu and Moltres that can stop Manaphy's sweep. Stored Power threatens the vast majority of the tier with enough boosts, slamming the likes of Kyurem, Zamazenta, Raging Bolt, and Ogerpon-W. 40 Speed EVs with a Timid Nature ensures Manaphy outspeeds Kyurem, with the rest invested into bulk to maximize Manaphy's survivability. Tera Dragon crucially flips the matchup against Ogerpon-W after an Acid Armor boost, as well as other threats like Rillaboom and Meowscarada, as well as surprising Raging Bolt. An alternative option is Tera Poison, which keeps the crucial Grass-type resistance and gives Manaphy a better matchup into the likes of Zamazenta, Iron Valiant, and Primarina.

While powerful with enough boosts, Take Heart Manaphy can struggle to gain said boosts due to its middling speed and middling bulk, so it works best on hyper offense teams like Screens and Sticky Web, which make up for these shortcomings. On Aurora Veil teams, Alolan Ninetales is a natural partner as the only OU-viable setter, giving Manaphy much greater ease in setting up with the added bulk, as well as threatening Ogerpon-W and Raging Bolt. Sweepers like Iron Moth and Darkrai work well with Manaphy, weakening teams and overwhelming shared checks like Tera Water Garganacl and Tera Water Ting Lu, clearing a path for Manaphy to sweep late-game. Similarly, bulkier options like Zamazenta and Swords Dance Gliscor act as great fallbacks, with Zamazenta taking on Ogerpon-W and Kyurem, while Gliscor checks Raging Bolt. On Sticky Web teams, Araquanid is the premiere setter, and is thus a must-have partner for Manaphy. Teammates like Gholdengo and Raging Bolt synergize well with Manaphy, with both threatening Rillaboom, and the former checking Kyurem and Iron Valiant while keeping Sticky Web on the field, while the latter beats Ogerpon-W and Primarina. Physical sweepers like Dragonite and Great Tusk also are appreciated by Manaphy, with the former checking Ogerpon-W and wearing down teams for a late-game sweep, while the latter offers hazard removal to ensure Manaphy can maximize its bulk, as well as a check to Raging Bolt.

While powerful with enough boosts, Take Heart Manaphy can struggle to gain said boosts due to its middling speed and good-but-not-great bulk underwhelming base power why would underwhelming base power moves factor into it struggling to get boosts?, so it works best on hyper offense teams like Screens and Sticky Web, which make up for these shortcomings. [SET COMMENTS]
Tail Glow Manaphy puts the spotlight on the power of Tail Glow combined with Manaphy's wide array of coverage moves, transforming Manaphy into a powerful wallbreaker. (This first sentence is a bit too wordy for me. I would personally just simplify it a bit if possible.) With a single Tail Glow, Manaphy's Surf washes away common walls, 2HKOing Ting Lu, Galarian Slowking, and Assault Vest Iron Crown, as well as threatening to OHKO offensive threats like Great Tusk and Iron Moth without a boost. Alternatively, Scald trades damage for a chance to burn targets like Roaring Moon or (Moon's banned, replace the mention with another mon like Kingambit or Zamazenta) Meowscarada, punishing their attempts to switch into Manaphy. Energy Ball slams Water resists like Primarina, Tera Water Garganacl, and Ogerpon-W, while Alluring Voice threatens Dragon-types like Raging Bolt, Dragonite, and Roaring Moon Kyurem, as well as punishing setup opportunities. Either of these can be dropped for Ice Beam, which targets certain Dragon-types like Raging Bolt and Dragonite, having a high chance to 2HKO the former and guaranteeing it on the latter. (The higher damage on Gliscor as a notable feature of Ice Beam, as unboosted Surf is unlikely to KO even physically defensive Gliscor. That said, Ice Beam also doesn't OHKO specially defensive Gliscor so its up to you if you want to mention it.) Tera Fairy is a solid defensive option, easing the matchup into threats like Kyurem, Zamazenta, and Kingambit, as well as neutralizing the matchup into its biggest counters, Ogerpon-W and Raging Bolt. (Dragapult is also a big threat that gets destroyed by Tera Fairy. IMO it should be mentioned.) Tera Grass takes the latter a step further by flipping the tables entirely on the aforementioned duo, as well as other threats like Rillaboom and Meowscarada.

(For addtional Tera types, mention Tera Ground and Steel. Tera Ground is very strong against Raging Bolt in particular and can allow Manaphy to run Tera Blast Ground to KO it in addition to a few of its other checks such as Gking and Toxapex. Tera Steel should also be mentioned as it allows Manaphy to more freely set up on Gking, while resisting super effective STAB from many of its checks such as Ogerpon-Wellspring, Kyurem, Rillaboom, Meowscarada, and more. It also grants Manaphy a critical immunity to Toxic. Substitue should be mentioned as an alternative moveslot - it can allow Manaphy to wallbreak against balance even harder, as Garganacl's Salt Cure will no longer affect it, and it can take advantage of other passive Pokemon to set up Tail Glow. Lastly, for alternative items, Covert Cloak should be mentioned. It fulfills a similar role to substitue , but still allows manaphy to run an additional coverage move for Pokemon like Gliscor or Ogerpon-Wellspring.)

(I would also mention Ribombee here as a webs-setting partner. Manaphy can struggle with Booster Raging Bolt and using Araquanid as your Webs setter can make that match-up annoying, while Ribombee has a big of an easier time pressuring that Pokemon. ) Gholdengo and Raging Bolt are strong teammates as well, greatly appreciating Manaphy's excellent matchup into Ting Lu, while the former threatens Kyurem and Iron Valiant as well as preserving the entry hazards that enable Manaphy, and the latter threatens Ogerpon-W, Tera Water Garganacl, and Toxapex. On the physical side, Kingambit and Roaring Moon (replace with another sweeper like Dragonite) pair well with Manaphy, with both taking advantage of Manaphy's wallbreaking to clean the weakened teams left in its wake (mention the walls that Manaphy can help break past, like Zamazenta, Dozo, and Corviknight.). On rain teams, Pelipper is must have as the only viable Drizzle user in the tier, boosting Manaphy's already powerful Surf to new heights, such as OHKOing Ting Lu after a Tail Glow boost. Pelipper's Drizzle also enables Manaphy's Hydration, cleansing the pesky Toxics and Paralysis that it might struggle with. (I would streamline the wording here a bit.) Darkrai and Iron Valiant are also solid partners, cleaning the weakened teams that Manaphy leaves in its wake (change wording, redundant with an earlier sentence), especially appreciating Manaphy weakening walls like Primarina, Ting Lu for the former, and Galarian Slowking for the latter, while Iron Valiant beats Kyurem, and Darkrai threatens Ogerpon-W. In general, hazard removal in Great Tusk or Iron Treads is useful as well, ensuring Manaphy can switch in repeatedly without fear of entry hazards, as well as checking Raging Bolt. (Good mention. Would also mention Hatterene as a partner on offensive structures. I think its also notable that Great Tusk / Iron Treads can set up Stealth Rocks for Manaphy, making it easier for it to break. )

(Additional partners:
- Pivots such as Landorus-T, Pecharunt, and Corviknight can make it easier for Manaphy to setup or bring it in more safely against Pokemon such as Gliscor.
- Veil or Dual Screens support from Ninetales-Alola / Grimmsnarl can also give manaphy an easier time setting up. TG Manaphy is still effective on these teams due to its effectiveness as a breaker.
- Iron Moth / Pecharunt / Glimmora are additional partners on offensive structures to get rid of T-Spikes.
- Hazard setters such as Lando-T, Deoxys-S, Glimmora, etc. make it easier for Manaphy to break past walls (notable vs Ogerpon-W).
- Zamazenta and Dragonite can both assist against Ogerpon-W while appreciating Manaphy's ability to break bulkier teams. Both also appreciate Manaphy's ability to destroy Gliscor + other bulky physical walls like Pecharunt.
- T-Wave support from the likes of Zapdos, Hatterene, Gholdengo, etc. go a long way in assisting against Manaphy's speed issues
- Healing Wish from Enamorus or Hatterene can also be useful to give manaphy another lease on life.
Its up to you if you want to mention all of these Pokemon.

With a single Tail Glow, Manaphy's Surf washes away common walls, 2HKOing Ting Lu, Galarian Slowking, and Assault Vest Iron Crown, as well as threatening to OHKO offensive threats like Great Tusk and Iron Moth without a boost.
