VGC Your Great Landlord (Assault Vest Groudon) [GP 1/1]

[SET]
Assault Vest (Groudon) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Drought
Level: 50
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 196 HP / 108 Atk / 12 Def / 156 SpD / 36 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Precipice Blades
- Heat Crash
- Thunder Punch
- High Horsepower / Stomping Tantrum

[SET COMMENTS]
Groudon serves as a bulky attacker that leverages its Assault Vest and natural bulk to withstand physical and special attacks while maintaining strong offensive pressure; therefore, performing well against key special attackers like Miraidon, Calyrex-S, and Terapagos by leveraging its enhanced special defense to withstand their attacks. Heat Crash benefits from Groudon's high weight, enabling it to inflict greater damage on threats like Amoonguss and Flutter Mane. Thunder Punch punishes Pelipper and Tornadus, allowing Groudon to pressure common weather setting support Pokemon that might otherwise hinder its effectiveness. High Horsepower provides a single-target alternative to Precipice Blades, bypassing Wide Guard and providing greater reliability. Stomping Tantrum doubles in power if Groudon's previous move fails, making it useful in situations where it gets flinched by Fake Out or if it misses an attack like Precipice Blades, allowing it to hit back harder the next turn. The invested Speed EVs allow Groudon to outspeed key threats under Tailwind, including Timid Calyrex-S, and common Choice Scarf users like Urshifu-R and Chi-Yu. Assault Vest further enhances its special bulk, enabling it to survive powerful hits such as Astral Barrage from a +2 Choice Specs Calyrex-S. Tera Fire boosts its Fire-type attacks and prevents burns from moves like Incineroar's Will-O-Wisp. With 108 Attack EVs and a Tera Fire, Groudon's Heat Crash guarantees an OHKO on standard Landorus and Ogerpon-H.

Calyrex-I can OHKO Groudon unless it Terastallizes, while Kyogre, Terapagos, and Pelipper can override its sun, weakening its Fire-type moves and leaving it vulnerable to Water-type attacks. Tornadus often carries Rain Dance to disrupt Groudon's weather control. Incineroar is another major obstacle due to the combined effect of Intimidate, Knock Off removing its Assault Vest, and Fake Out preventing Groudon from attacking. To mitigate these weaknesses, Groudon benefits from strong team support from the likes of Volcarona and Gouging Fire, which make excellent partners, with Volcarona providing Tailwind to boost Groudon's Speed and Rage Powder to protect it from attacks. Gouging Fire benefits from sun with Protosynthesis, hitting hard with Flare Blitz while supporting the team with Howl and Breaking Swipe. Flutter Mane and Raging Bolt appreciate the Protosynthesis activation from sun, which helps Flutter Mane against Calyrex-S, while Raging Bolt pressures Kyogre, Pelipper, and Tornadus, which are common threats to Groudon. Chien-Pao is a strong partner that can increase the damage of physical attacks while using its high Speed and access to Sucker Punch to check faster threats. Urshifu-S is an effective partner for Groudon against Terapagos, using powerful Fighting-type attacks such as Close Combat to pressure it.

[SET COMMENTS]
Groudon functions as a bulky offensive pivot, capable of absorbing special attacks while maintaining strong offensive pressure(mention that it sets sun for teammates) It excels against threats like Miraidon, Calyrex-Shadow, Terapagos, and Lunala. Its move choices are tailored for consistency and coverage. Fire Punch offers reliable Fire-type damage compared to Heat Crash, which depends on weight but can be extremely powerful due to Groudon's size(This is dex info so we don't include it, mention what calcs are changed with Fire Punch or Heat Crash). Crunch effectively targets Psychic and Ghost types such as Lunala, Calyrex-Shadow, Farigiraf, and Indeedee-F. High Horsepower serves as a more accurate single-target Ground move compared to Precipice Blades, though it sacrifices power and spread damage(mention wide guard). The Assault Vest enhances Groudon’s Special Defense, allowing it to survive strong special attacks. The investment in bulk 196 HP / 156 SpD ensures survivability, such as a +2 252 SpA Choice Specs Calyrex-Shadow Astral Barrage, which would otherwise KO most Groudon variants. The special bulk, when paired with an Assault Vest, allows Groudon to survive attacks like Astral Barrage from +2 Choice Specs Calyrex-S. While 108 Attack EVs maintain an offensive presence(mention calcs or delete this), the 36 Speed EVs allow Groudon to outspeed key threats under Tailwind, including Timid Calyrex-Shadow, Choice Scarf users Urshifu-R, and Chi-Yu and Choice Scarf users like Urshifu-R and Chi-Yu. Tera Fire bolsters its Fire-type attacks and prevents burns, while Tera Ghost provides immunity to Fake Out, protecting it from disruption.

Despite its strengths, Groudon faces significant threats. Calyrex-Ice can OHKO it unless Groudon Terastallizes, while Kyogre, Terapagos, and Pelipper can remove its sun advantage, weakening its offensive potential and exposing it to Water-type attacks. Tornadus also frequently carries Rain Dance to counter Groudon’s weather control. Incineroar is a major threat, as its Intimidate lowers Groudon’s Attack and Knock Off removes its Assault Vest(can also mention Fake Out since AV can't protect). To mitigate these weaknesses, Groudon benefits from strong partners. Whimsicott’s Prankster ability provides Tailwind for speed control and Sunny Day to maintain sun.(this isn't very common) Flutter Mane and Raging Bolt take advantage of Protosynthesis in the sun, while Farigiraf’s Armor Tail blocks priority moves like Fake Out. Incineroar provides Fake Out support and Intimidate control, while Amoonguss helps counter Calyrex-Ice with Spore and redirection. Clefairy’s Friend Guard and Follow Me help Groudon stay on the field longer. Sableye’s Prankster ability with Gravity ensures Precipice Blades never misses(also has screens). Additionally, Pokémon with Defiant, such as Kingambit, Annihilape, and Ogerpon, deter opponents from cycling Intimidate, preserving Groudon’s offensive presence. (most of these aren't very common partners, I'd recommend looking at https://pokepast.es/e81066d4335f8de1 because its the main AV groudon team)

Don't Agree with all the changes
1)Why remove ghost if it can offer a way to protect against fake out?
2)Why remove rockslide? it has a 10% usage on pikalytics and has been a long time used move on groudon in its years
3)Why remove crunch it got fourth on an online event can find it in the repository https://pokepast.es/70ff6b46af3ed1b9
4)Whimsicott can be swapped with torn and is more common ill make that change I just prefer whim over torn on my Groudon team and have been successful with it so I thought I would share it
5)why remove (Farigiraf’s Armor Tail blocks priority moves like Fake Out. Incineroar provides Fake Out support and Intimidate control, while Amoonguss helps counter Calyrex-Ice with Spore and redirection.) this seems fair its weak to fake out as you even pointed out making farigiraf an option but i get removing that one much more over incin and amoonguss. incin is a common partner for groudon teams and even the clear amulet set thats already on smogon mentions amoonguss to help with Calyrex-Ice
https://www.smogon.com/dex/sv/pokemon/groudon/vgc24-regulation-g/
6)I mean king gambit is on 1 of the 2 successful AV Sets and the others were just meta relevant mons with the ability as well
7)You posted a team with stone edge and almost everyone knows you can swap stone edge with Rock slide so I don't understand removing rockslide I can add stone edge as well?
but made some of them

Just butting in here.

1) Ghost is almost never used on AV groudon, nor is it very desireable. It makes you weak to CSR, doesn't offer enough in return as well as becoming weak to the most common fake out pokemon (incineroar), when fake out protection can be achieved through other means and isn't always necessary due to groudon's insane bulk (this is comparable to running tera ghost on iron hands)

2) Rock slide just doesn't threaten enough in this meta. There's not a lot it hits for super effective that wouldn't already be threatened by heat crash/fire punch/precipice blades.

3) Again, crunch doesn't offer enough (see point 2 but replace rock slide with crunch), as CSR already takes a lot of damage from heat crash. Also, the pokepaste and tour you mentioned are both from the beginning of the first iteration of reg G, which had a completely different meta.

4) Tornadus' flying damage is very valuable on these types of teams, and its bulk helps it stay around longer to set more sunny days and tailwinds.

5) This is regurgigating dex info and too general, mention what exactly you can stop with fake out to buy groudon another turn.

6) 1. Kingambit is not a common pokemon with groudon at all. Not in the slightest. For san antonio (and other tournaments) it doesn't even show up in the Teammates section of the mon. 2. It doesn't matter that those are meta relevant. Electric seed farigiraf is most definetely meta relevant, but you won't ever see it on Groudon teams because they can't set up the electric terrain. They are not common on the pokemon you are writing an analysis for.

7) Rock slide is a lot weaker than stone edge. That's just it - rock slide doesn't deal enough damage to be worth it, and is blocked by wide guard as well.

Also, rewrite this sentence ("Tera Fire bolsters its Fire-type attacks and prevents burns, while Tera Ghost provides immunity to Fake Out, protecting it from disruption.") to remove tera ghost.

:) not butting in at all i was just trying to understand so anyone is able to answer i actually really appreciate that you took the time to answer so remove ghost tera in 100% agreement now but dropping incin and amoonguss? Or are those okay and kingambit gone as well it was truly just suggestions and why they pair well with av groudon but i understand how lack of use shows lack of viability. Ill update it to include more chi-yu orgerpon-h and chien-pao. And i didn’t disagree with removing whim i just simply explained thats why it was there torn is definitely more common. But find it hard to leave rockslide off when its in the 10% usage range. But ill remove it as well.
Also ill remove crunch

It was moreso that what you said about amoonguss and groudon wasn't saying a lot. Expand on what exactly the support allows groudon to do, and what you can fake out that would otherwise threaten groudon.

Edit: that also goes for farigiraf.

I suggest looking at recent regionals for usage whenever possible because Pikalytics can be quite unreliable, the moveset should be Heat Crash, Precipice Blades, Thunder Punch, High Horsepower / Stomping Tantrum

I thought about adding Stomping Tantrum to it as well because it can add a lot just knowing you can click it and if they protect then you know you’re doing more the following turn definitely add it unfortunately rn i am currently at the hospital bed side of my mom who had a heart attack last night. Shes doing better have her on heart pump so its okay. But ill make these changes as soon as i get home.

I will expand more on the support of amoonguss as well
Also Im not sure if i really going to defend the Giraffe I like it think it could be great with its helping hand, trick room, and its ability that can shut off priority attacks i think is strong and better then indeedee even though she gets follow me her terrain gets shut off by rilla and miridon using her just feels bad
But also its supper uncommon and i might be the only one who sees the giraffe as a viable option and so ill go ahead and remove it

Will do 1 more small lookover before I give QC 1/2

Groudon serves as a bulky offensive pivot, leveraging its Assault Vest and natural bulk to withstand physical and special attacks while maintaining strong offensive pressure. Its Drought ability provides valuable sun support, enhancing Fire-type moves and weakening Water-type attacks and activating the abilities of partners(makes it not pure dex info). Groudon performs well against key threats such as Miraidon, Calyrex-Shadow, Terapagos, and Lunala. Its move set prioritizes consistency and coverage. Fire Punch offers reliable Fire-type STAB compared to Heat Crash, which can vary in power based on the opponent’s weight(Heat Crash is still the main move. Thunder Punch punishes Kyogre and other water types that threaten Groudon.(its mainly Pelipper, I'd just mention it and torn ngl) High Horsepower provides a single-target alternative to Precipice Blades, bypassing Wide Guard for and providing greater reliability. Stomping Tantrum is a riskier weaker alternative that doubles in power if Groudon’s previous move fails, offering a situational high-reward(kinda but not really imo) option. The given EV spread maximizes Groudon’s bulk while maintaining an offensive presence.(this sentence is kinda unnecessary, you can just roll right into EVs) The 36 Speed EVs allow Groudon to outspeed key threats under Tailwind, including Timid Calyrex-Shadow and common Choice Scarf users like Urshifu-R and Chi-Yu. Assault Vest further enhances its special bulk, enabling it to survive powerful hits such as Astral Barrage from a +2 Choice Specs Calyrex-Shadow. Tera Fire boosts its Fire-type attacks and prevents burns from moves like Will-O-Wisp Incineroar's Will-O-Wisp.

Despite its strengths, Groudon has notable weaknesses. Calyrex-Ice can OHKO it unless Groudon Terastallizes, while Kyogre, Terapagos, and Pelipper can override its sun, weakening its Fire moves and leaving it vulnerable to Water-type attacks. Tornadus often carries Rain Dance to disrupt Groudon’s weather control. Incineroar is another major obstacle, as its Intimidate lowers Groudon’s Attack, Knock Off removes its Assault Vest, and Fake Out prevents Groudon from attacking. To mitigate these weaknesses, Groudon benefits from strong team support. Tornadus provides Tailwind to bolster Groudon’s Speed and can use Sunny Day to restore sun.(Volcarona or Jumpluff are more common, mention them instead) Flutter Mane and Raging Bolt appreciate the sun-boosted Protosynthesis activation and cover threats that trouble Groudon(like). Farigiraf supports Groudon by setting Trick Room and blocking priority moves with its Armor Tail ability, which is incredibly valuable in a format full of moves like Fake Out and Grassy Glide. Additionally, Farigiraf can use Helping Hand to increase Groudon’s damage output. Incineroar offers Fake Out support and Intimidate to weaken opposing physical attackers. Amoonguss aids in the Trick Room matchup against Calyrex-Ice with Spore and redirection, keeping Groudon on the field longer(once again, these aren't very common partners, you can check top cut explorer for the numbers, so its better to just mention the partners from the team I sent). Sableye’s Prankster Gravity ensures Precipice Blades never misses and increase's its bulk with dual screens. Chien-Pao is a fantastic physical attacker that can improve its and its teammates' physical damage through its Sword of Ruin ability, which reduces the Defense of all active Pokémon without this ability. This synergizes well with Groudon, allowing it to hit even harder.(a reader can infer this) Chien-Pao's high Speed and access to priority moves like Sucker Punch make it effective at checking faster threats and providing additional offensive support.

Thunder Punch punishes Pelipper and Tornadus, allowing Groudon to pressure common weather setters and setting support Pokémon that might otherwise hinder its effectiveness. Groudon serves as a bulky offensive pivot attacker (it's not a pivot, it's supposed to be a bulky attacker), leveraging its Assault Vest and natural bulk to withstand physical and special attacks while maintaining strong offensive pressure. Its Drought ability provides valuable sun support, by enhancing Fire-type moves and weakening Water-type attacks and activating partner's abilities. High Horsepower provides a single-target alternative to Precipice Blades, bypassing Wide Guard and providing greater reliability. Stomping Tantrum is a weaker alternative that doubles in power if Groudon’s previous move fails, offering a situational option. (mention some applications of this, notably how fake out flinching allows for double damage on stomping tantrum) The 36 Speed EVs allow Groudon to outspeed key threats under Tailwind, including Timid Calyrex-Shadow and common Choice Scarf users like Urshifu-R and Chi-Yu. Assault Vest further enhances its special bulk, enabling it to survive powerful hits such as Astral Barrage from a +2 Choice Specs Calyrex-Shadow. To mitigate these weaknesses, Groudon benefits from strong team support. Volcarona and Gouging Fire are excellent partners for Groudon, with Volcarona providing Tailwind to boost Groudon’s Speed and Rage Powder to protect it from attacks. Gouging Fire benefits from the sun with Protosynthesis, hitting hard with Flare Blitz while supporting the team with Howl and Breaking Swipe. Together, they create a strong supportive core that helps Groudon thrive in battle. Flutter Mane and Raging Bolt appreciate the sun-boosted Protosynthesis activation, with Flutter Mane helping against Calyrex-Shadow, while Raging Bolt pressures Kyogre, Pelipper, and Tornadus, which are common threats to Groudon. Sableye’s Prankster Gravity ensures Precipice Blades never misses and increases its bulk with dual screens. Chien-Pao is a strong partner that can increase the damage of physical attacks while using its high Speed and Sucker Punch to check faster threats. (mention urshifu-s or another partner that helps into terapagos)

[SET COMMENTS]
Groudon serves as a bulky offensive pivot attacker (it's not a pivot, it's supposed to be a bulky attacker), leveraging its Assault Vest and natural bulk to withstand physical and special attacks while maintaining strong offensive pressure. Its Drought ability provides valuable sun support, by enhancing Fire-type moves and weakening Water-type attacks and activating partner's abilities. (this is kinda just fluff, if you want to talk about sun talk about it in the first sentence somewhere) Groudon performs well against key special attackers like Miraidon, Calyrex-Shadow, Terapagos, and Lunala by leveraging its enhanced special defense to withstand their attacks. Heat Crash offers a powerful Fire-type STAB that benefits from Groudon's high weight, while Fire Punch provides a more consistent alternative into Calyrex-I and Terastallized Raging Bolt. Thunder Punch punishes Pelipper and Tornadus, allowing Groudon to pressure common weather setting support Pokémon that might otherwise hinder its effectiveness. Tera Fire boosts its Fire-type attacks and prevents burns from moves like Incineroar's Will-O-Wisp. (if there are any important heat crash calcs with tera fire mention them here, some that I found were ohkoing hearthflame and lando with tera fire)

Groudon serves as a bulky offensive (this is my bad I messed up the adding/removing from the first check but bulky offensive bulky attacker is unnecescary+doesnt make sense I believe)bulky attacker, leveraging its Assault Vest and natural bulk to withstand physical and special attacks while maintaining strong offensive pressure. Groudon performs well against key special attackers like Miraidon, Calyrex-S, Terapagos, and Lunala (lunalas usage has fallen off heavily recently+3 examples is probably fine anyways) by leveraging its enhanced special defense to withstand their attacks. Heat Crash offers a powerful Fire-type STAB that benefits from Groudon's high weight, allowing it to deal more damage to threats such as Amoonguss and Flutter Mane (more specific, this is just what I thought to do you can do different wording if youd like). Thunder Punch punishes Pelipper and Tornadus, allowing Groudon to pressure common weather setting support Pokémon that might otherwise hinder its effectiveness. High Horsepower provides a single-target alternative to Precipice Blades, bypassing Wide Guard and providing greater reliability. Stomping Tantrum doubles in power if Groudon’s previous move fails, making it useful in situations where it gets flinched by Fake Out, its attack is nullified by Protect, or it misses an attack like Precipice Blades, allowing it to hit back harder the next turn. The 36 Speed EVs allow Groudon to outspeed key threats under Tailwind, including Timid Calyrex-S and common Choice Scarf users like Urshifu-R and Chi-Yu. Tera Fire boosts its Fire-type attacks and prevents burns from moves like Incineroar's Will-O-Wisp. Groudon's Heat Crash is particularly effective against certain threats due to its weight-based damage calculation. With an investment of 108 Attack EVs and a Tera Fire, Groudon's Heat Crash guarantees an OHKO on standard Landorus and Ogerpon-H.

Despite its strengths, Groudon has notable weaknesses. Stomping Tantrum doubles in power if Groudon’s previous move fails, making it useful in situations where it gets flinched by Fake Out, its attack is nullified by Protect, or it misses an attack like Precipice Blades, allowing it to hit back harder the next turn.
Just got a notification about this (sorry that i'm late), so one comment; if a move is blocked by protect, it doesn't double stomping tantrum's BP next turn. https://dex.pokemonshowdown.com/moves/stompingtantrum

Groudon serves as a bulky attacker (RC) leveraging that leverages its Assault Vest and natural bulk to withstand physical and special attacks while maintaining strong offensive pressure; (ASC) (RP) Groudon performs therefore, performing (the sentence was pruned so combine these 2 sentences as they talk about the same goal i.e. withstanding special attacks) well against key special attackers like Miraidon, Calyrex-S, and Terapagos by leveraging its enhanced Special Defense to withstand their attacks. Heat Crash offers a powerful Fire-type STAB that (Heat Crash is not a STAB move for Groudon) benefits from Groudon's high weight, enabling it to inflict greater damage on threats like Amoonguss and Flutter Mane. Thunder Punch punishes Pelipper and Tornadus, allowing Groudon to pressure common weather-setting support Pokémon Pokemon (you need not use the special Pokemon e for analyses) that might otherwise hinder its effectiveness. High Horsepower provides a single-target alternative to Precipice Blades, bypassing Wide Guard and providing greater reliability. Stomping Tantrum doubles in power if Groudon’s previous move fails, making it useful in situations where it gets flinched by Fake Out (RC) its attack is nullified by Protect (RC) (Stomping Tantrum does not double its base power when its clicked into protect) or if it misses (where it "gets flinched" or if "it misses" better here than making "miss" an -ing verb) an attack like Precipice Blades, allowing it to hit back harder the next turn. The 36 (the number need not be specified) invested Speed EVs allow Groudon to outspeed key threats under Tailwind, including Timid Calyrex-S and common Choice Scarf users like Urshifu-R and Chi-Yu. Assault Vest further enhances its special bulk, enabling it to survive powerful hits such as Astral Barrage from a +2 Choice Specs Calyrex-S. With an investment of 108 Attack EVs and a Tera Fire, Groudon's Heat Crash guarantees an OHKO on standard Landorus and Ogerpon-H.

Despite its strengths, Groudon has notable weaknesses. (filler) Calyrex-I can OHKO it Groudon unless Groudon it Terastallizes, while Kyogre, Terapagos, and Pelipper can override its sun, weakening its Fire Fire-type moves and leaving it vulnerable to Water-type attacks. Tornadus often carries Rain Dance to disrupt Groudon’s weather control. Incineroar is another major obstacle (RC) as its due to the combined effect of Intimidate lowers Groudon’s Attack (dex info), Knock Off removes removing its Assault Vest, and Fake Out prevents preventing Groudon from attacking. To mitigate these weaknesses, Groudon benefits from strong team support (RP) from the likes of Volcarona and Koraidon, (AC) which make are excellent partners (combined the filler sentence with this meaningful one) for Groudon, with Volcarona providing Tailwind to boost Groudon’s Speed and Rage Powder to protect it from attacks. Koraidon benefits from the sun with Protosynthesis Orichalcum Pulse, hitting hard with Flare Blitz while supporting the team with Howl and Breaking Swipe. Together, they create a strong supportive core that helps Groudon thrive in battle. (filler) Flutter Mane and Iron Bundle appreciates the sun-boosted Protosynthesis activation from sun, (Iron Bundle does not have Protosynthesis, and thus receives no boost from the sun.) with which helps Flutter Mane helping ("to help" isn't needed here when you can just change "which allows" to "which helps") against Calyrex-S. Iron Bundle pressures Kyogre, Pelipper, and Tornadus, which are common threats to Groudon. Chien-Pao is a strong partner that can increase the damage of physical attacks while using its high Speed and Sucker Punch to check faster threats. Urshifu-S is an effective partner for Groudon against Terapagos (RP) Its, (AC) using powerful Fighting-type attacks (RC) such as Close Combat (RC) to pressure Terapagos.

To mitigate these weaknesses, Groudon benefits from strong team support from the likes of Volcarona and Gouging Fire, which make excellent partners, with Volcarona providing Tailwind to boost Groudon’s Groudon's Speed and Rage Powder to protect it from attacks. Gouging Fire benefits from sun with Protosynthesis, hitting hard with Flare Blitz while supporting the team with Howl and Breaking Swipe. Chien-Pao is a strong partner that can increase the damage of physical attacks while using its high Speed and access to Sucker Punch to check faster threats. Urshifu Single-Strike Urshifu-S is an effective partner for Groudon against Terapagos, using powerful Fighting-type attacks such as Close Combat (RC) to pressure Terapagos it.
