Yanmega

Yanmega has dropped to UU! Let's abuse him!
I really don't want to write up all of his movepool and stuff, so here's the basics.

YANMEGA
BUG/FLYING

HP: 86
ATTACK: 76
DEFENSE: 86
SPECIAL ATTACK: 116
SPECIAL DEFENSE: 56
SPEED: 95

Abilites: Speed Boost, Tinted Lens, Frisk

Let's do some sample sets!

Yanmega @ Life Orb
Speed Boost
4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spe
Modest
--Protect / Substitute / Hypnosis
--Bug Buzz
--Air Slash
--HP Fire / HP Fighting / HP Ground
Speedy, powerful sweeper. Speed boost allows you to sweep through teams quickly, and aside from super bulky walls who are neutral to your moves, you will probably OHKO everything. You outspeed frailer sweepers, and you have the advantage over many walls like Slowbro. Protect can be used to give you the initial +1 in speed. Substitute is riskier but has a higher payoff (and will be great once Petaya berries are released). Hypnosis is even riskier than Substitute, but it has the highest payoff of all. The hidden power coverage move is dependent on choice, but all are useful. Giga Drain can also be used, even though it has limited coverage, to heal back LO damage and to beat bulky waters like Milotic.

Yanmega @ Choice Specs
Tinted Lens
4 Def / 252 SAtk/ 252 Spe
Timid
--Bug Buzz
--Air Slash
--Psychic
--HP Ground / Fighting

Because of Tinted Lens, you don't need to worry about being locked into a resisted move. So feel free to spam away with your mega powerful moves. There are a lot of pokemon who 4x resist Bug Buzz (Cobalion, Emboar, Drifblim, Golbat, Moltres, etc), so I feel more comfortable spamming Air Slash, which is only 4x resisted by Magneton, Aggron, and Bastiodon. All of these pokemon are OHKO'd by HP Ground. Still, it sucks to be locked into a move with pokemon immune to it, so HP Fighting can be used, even though it only gets a 2HKO on Magneton. Really, coverage isn't an issue because everythign except for a 4x resist is neutral.

The fun thing about Yanmega is that you can mix and match. For example, a Choice Specs Speed Boost set is still effective, or a Sublens set is still really useful.

Your thoughts?

hm. I ought to try this thing out after the round's start. Yanmega has always been fearsome.

Honestly, I kinda forgot about Yanmega because its been in BL for a long time. lol
I'll have to try out my old favourite specs set.

What.

Also, Specs Tinted Lens is scary as hell. Off that base SpA, only Chansey and 4x resists have a chance. Basically requires a really good Rapid Spinner, though.

two of the top 10 pokemon are rapid spinners. it's not difficult to find them, lol

I love Yanmega. It was a total beast during its stay in Generation IV UU, so I think it should perform at least somewhat well this time around. It has two really great abilities and hits hard...if only it learned Quiver Dance.

Actually, thinking about its lack of that move, Venomoth now gives it some real competition for a moveslot due to its ability to BP those incredible boosts in addition to being able to hit hard with Tinted Lens Bug Buzz if need be.

True, I was just saying that you can't just slap Yanmega on any team and expect it to do well.

Don't forget about Sleep Powder, that's also a major plus. The only real issue is Venomoth's lack of decent coverage against Bug Buzz resists if it runs both Quiver Dance and Sleep Powder.

That isn't really an issue, though. With a simple set of Tinted Lens @ Bug Buzz / QD / BP / Sleep Powder, Venomoth can simply use the boosts as it needs to with Bug Buzz (check out the utter lack of 4x resists anywhere near the top 20), Sleep Powder what it can't OHKO, boost again, and continue on its merry way. If your sweep reaches a roadblock, simply BP to get the hell out and pass +2 speed and SpD as the very least of useable boosts to whatever comes in.

Yanmega's niche seems to be Speed Boost this gen, though it does have the advantage of a stronger initial hit with Specs TL.

Yanmega has dropped to OU!

From* OU. Kidding aside, this thing is a total beast as a lead. Protect is pretty much the move he benefits the most from, raising his Speed and scouting the opponents' moves. Air Slash is also quite fearsome, coming off of that fantastic base Special Attack.

This guy is an old favourite of mine. Can't decide whether speed boost or tinted lens would work better for this UU environment. Something tells me tinted lens, because priority seems to have taken an uptick this generation...
Air slash/Bug Buzz/HP ground gives good coverage against prominent UU pokes, espeon, DeoD, virizion, elect, celebi, slowbro...one moveslot to cover for any team weaknesses. specs or scarf depending on what you want him to match up against

Tinted > Boost. Both are great, but Yan needs a bunch of boosts before it outspeeds everything, so it's best he'd rather have the extra power.

U-turn is greaton the specs set. I almost neveruse psychic anyways and scouting is cool.

I always liked yanmega, and the one reason i dont use him is because i cant choose the ability :/

Specs Tinted Lens is an utter terror to use, it just rips through teams once the opposing team is prepared.

I'm using Giga drain over psychic on the specs set. It's had some interesting uses. Not sure what exactly I'm hitting with it that I wouldn't hit with other stuff, but the extra healing is cool all the same.

I prefer the Specs set. My reasoning behind this is:

Great, I have 600+ Speed. I still only 2HKO everything and cant take a hit.

Specs removed this problem for me. The Speed Boost is good, but I just dont really like it that much.

Looking forward to one of my favorite 'mons all over again! I'd rather use Giga Drain over Psychic on the Specs set too though.

The lead's been a good choice for Random Matchup too.

I think giga drain is a lot more useful than psychic on the specs set and can even be used on the lead set so he can recover life orb damage. It also destroys common rock/grounds and water/grounds.

I remember using this thing in 4th gen with life orb. It 2hkos lead metagross which I thought was pretty damn powerful. The fact that this thing didn't make UU is beyond me.

Was anyone else disappointed by the fact that this thing didn't get Quiver Dance?

Well, it didn't get quiver dance anyway :(
Nevertheless, Yanmega is still a monster in UU. Just a pity chansey stops it dead in its tracks.

With paralysis support, Yanmega basically outruns everything but ground types and Jolteon / Electivire, and OHKOs or 2HKOs the entire UU metagame with two moves. TWO MOVES. God this thing needs more usage.

Also you may want to test out confuseray/swagger...

With 30% flinch rate and 50% chance of self inflicted damage from confusion (assuming the 90% accuracy is a hit), the opponent has a <50% chance of hitting you back. And since Yanmega basically 2HKOs everything bar steel types, one flinch or confusionhax will lead to the opposing pokemon's death. But seriously, swagger has lead me to kill ridiculous things like suicune and bastiodon.

That sounds really gimmicky and would probably work better on a bulkier pokemon since Yanmega can barely take any hits, especially from the special side.

this (BAN ME PLEASE) needs to somehow get quiver dance this thing just screams "i want quiver dance"
