The Wii, the PS3 and the XBOX360. The next generation of consoles. Which of these is the best? which one should YOU have? And which should see the nearest rubbish bin? Lets have a look.

Wii

The Wii was the last of the 7th generation consoles to be released on the 19th of November, 2006. Unlike other consoles, which focus on the use of high-definition graphics and overall improvements of their previous consoles, the Wii was aimed at more casual gamers, with Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Music and the use of Miis in these games.

The Wii makes use of Nintendo's massive franchises, with Mario, Legend of Zelda, Metroid and other franchises at their disposal. Pokemon, Kirby and other franchises may still be used to increase the library of quality games that the Wii may run. The Wii is first in the current console war, with 34.55 million consoles sold worldwide.

The Wii, however, has some faults. It is targeted at a younger age gap, as is evident in the lack of Grand Theft Auto. It has next to no Third-Party support, with all of their best games developed by Nintendo (as is evident in all of their consoles). It's memory is tiny compared with other consoles, and experienced gamers may find it frustrating without the standard controller. The novelty of swinging a remote to hit a ball does wear off eventually.

However, it has more redeeming qualities. It is 100% backward compatible, and games from the NES to the, well, the Super NES may be downloaded. Also, imagine lightsabre, or Metroid Prime fights with a Wii remote. Go on, admit it. Thats something that Halo 3 doesn't have that every Wii FPS can have.

XBOX 360

The XBOX360 was the first 7th generation console released on the 22nd of November, 2005. the XBOX360 has superior online capabilities, despite the need to pay for this feature. A major selling feature for the XBOX360 was the game Halo 3, which was released in conjunction with the release of the other 7gen consoles to damper the competing console's initial release success.

In terms of graphics, XBOX360 is superior to Wii, but PS3 will probably be the champion in this department. Still, XBOX360 is no slouch. Take one look at "Gears of War" and you'll see the future of HD gaming.
XBOX360 was the first next-generation console to be released, so it has a year's worth of games and accessories already on hand.
The Premium version of XBOX360 sells for $399 which is $200 less than the PS3's top shelf offering, despite being more expensive than the Wii. the XBOX360 is second in the current generation, with 22 million units sold worldwide.

XBOX360 is geared towards Hardcore gamers with a fetish for shooter games. It can play HD movies, and you can download demos of games, music and much, much more. Guitar Hero III is also available.

Heres the bad bit: they break very easily. More advanced games and Third Party support, although strong, are irrelevent compared to the PS3, although they did a great job in securing GTA IV. Overall, XBOX360, to be honest, if Halo was available for the PS3 and were both the same price, alot of people would be using PS3s instead of this.

PS3

The PS3 was the second 7th generation console released on the 11th of November 2006. It is the most technically advanced console, using Blue Ray disks to have up to 52GB of storage. The PS3, although the successor of the best selling console of all time, is last in the current generation with 16 million units sold worldwide. Assasians Creed, Heavanly Sword and other console exclusives are also available, along with free online capabilities.

Controller- Ok, I know you are probably saying, "Sony is a thief, they stole the controller from Nintendo." And I agree. However, it doesn't change the fact that motion sensor is a good thing. Combined with standard and extremely comfortable control scheme with R2 and L2 buttons enlarged to form trigger-like buttons, the controller offers both innovation and comfort. But a lack of rumble seriously dampens the entire situation. Undoubtedly, a 3rd party controller will arise to fill the rumble along with the motion sensor.

The PS3 has great HD graphics, larger storage for more complex, technically advanced games. It has a massive PS2 fanbase to feed off of, and is, games aside, overall, the best console. So what is wrong with it?

The games. PS3 games are expensive, and alot of the good ones can be acessed on the cheaper XBOX360. the console is more expensive, and, apart from being free, Xbox Live is still a superior online system. If you want rumble, you will have to purchase a third-party remote.

But worst of all-most models aren't backwards compatable. Meaning, you HAVE to buy PS3 games to use your PS3. A kick in the nuts for the PS3.

Overall, I like the Wii. And don't call me a fanboy, because I have a PS2 and PS. Plus a DS, but thats just because im a big sucker for the touch
