Guess who ordered last on the previous round and now has to order first.

Hint: It's not Athenodoros.

Unless I missed something.

"Nah, I'm just getting so used to switch phrases that I forget that normal KOs don't count.

Electivire @ Expert Belt comes in to play, then."

I know we were all expecting funtimes with Swampert, but I think I'll stay in. Let's see how this works.

Thunderbolt ~ ThunderPunch ~ Thunderbolt

IF Bide, THEN Substitute (15) on the first instance
IF Light Screen AND you outspeed, THEN Brick Break

Not far enough to see this coming, apparently:

Round 7

C'mon even I saw that coming.

Anyway.

After losing his first pokemon, Athenodoros sends out Actaea the Starmie with Enigma Berry. I mean, seriously...does he have a freaking plantation of those?

The challenger counters with his Signature Pokemon: Short Fuse the Electivire with Expert Belt...which were probably on sale.

On a first glance Short Fuse has the advantage, but that soon is nulled as Actaea uses Skill Swap to get Motor Drive in exchange for Natural Cure and get a very useful Electric immunity!

Short Fuse even tried to deal damage, but his Thunderbolt, Thunderpunch and Thunderbolt were all absorbed and turned into speed for Starmie, which managed to set up a 15hp substitute and attack with Hydro Pump on the meanwhile.

And I believe we will see Short Fuse leaving next turn, as he doesn't have much to hit Motor Drive Starmie with...

or not.

Starmie: Skill Swap for 7 energy (Natural Cure for Motor Drive)

Electivire: Thunderbolt: absorbed for 6 energy

Starmie: 15hp substitute for 12 energy

Electivire: Thunderpunch: absorbed for 5 energy

Starmie: Hydro Pump: 12+3+1.5 = 16.5 damage for 7 energy
Crit: 11 (no)

Electivire: Thunderbolt: absorbed for 6 energy

The platform broke! Electivire fell on the cold water!
- 5hp.

I'm glad that worked out so well. And glad that the sub gives some room to manoeuvre. Electivire is a behemoth.

Round 8

Both pokemon just exchange blows in a boring round.

I mean

no tricky shenaningans

no witty sub abuse

no HAX

This makes my job quite hard, you know?

Either way, Astraea attacked with Surf, Psychic and Surf and Short Fuse with a barrage of Hidden Power Grass. You could have seen that by reading the orders but oh well.

The Ever-useful Enigma Berry kicks in and makes the Starmie endure the blows quite nicely. The same can't be said to Electivire though, as the cold water SPLASH just added to a not so good round.

The Gym Leader managed to recover from the hp gap and has a ton of momentum on his hands. The challenger better pull his act together, before this gets out of hand, or this match will end in a deja vu.

Starmie: Surf: 10+3+1.5 = 14.5 damage for 6 energy
Crit:5 (no)

Electivire: Hidden Power Grass: (7+2+1.5)*1.5= no more sub (15.75hp) for 5 energy
Crit: irrelevant

Starmie: Psychic: 11+3+1.5 = 15.5 damage for 6.5 energy
Crit:10 (no)
Effect: 6/10 (no)

Electivire: Hidden Power Grass: 15.75 damage for 9 energy

Round 9

Astraea decides to face her opponent LIKE A MAN THE BRAVE STARMIE SHE IS!

...and so creates a 25hp substitute and hides behind it.

Tango then uses Giga Drain to heavily damage the substitute, while getting some always useful HP back.

On the following turn, Starmie switches to attack mode and uses Ludicolo's weight against it with Psychic. Tango counterattacks by chilling. IN THE FACE OF DANGER (also known as kangaskhan's baby the substitute).

Finally, Astraea uses Psyshock to create some solid psywaves that proceed to SLAP TANGO OVER AND OVER AGAIN, while the Ludicolo counterattacks with Thunderpunch, giving Starmie more speed thanks to Motor Drive!

The plot thickeeeens!

Starmie: 25hp substitute for 24 energy

Ludicolo: Giga Drain: (8+3+2+1.5)*1.5= 21.75 damage for 11 energy
Crit: 11 (no)

Round 10

Astraea continues her assault behind the sub, using her Psychic powers to mess around with Tango. The Ludicolo is focus, though and breaks her sub with a well placed Seed Bomb.

Oh the following turn, the Astraea attacks with Psyshock, slapping Ludicolo silly again, while the dancing plant got some health back with Absorb, boosted by a nice Expert Belt.

Finally, Astraea attacked with Psychic one last time and Tango managed to survive with little hp. The same can't be said about the Starmie, which fainted against Ludicolo's Energy Ball. Starmie fainted!

Round 11

The Gym Leader's final pokemon is Tethys the Cloyster! Looks like it went with a more offensive approach against Mowtom.

And the Challenger sends back Short Fuse to the fray! The poor Electivire was outplayed the entire match, so I guess it should be glad to get in a final attack before fainting.

And it does just that, attacking with Thunderbolt, before being overwhelmed with Icicle Spear followed by Ice Shard. Electivire fainted!

Electivire: Thunderbolt: (10-1+3+2+3)*1.5= 25.5 damage for 6 energy
Crit: Shell Armour

Cloyster: Icicle Spear: 5*3+3+3+1+4 = 26 damage for 8 energy
