Hey guys this is my first RMT ever. I've never done one so please excuse the rather barren look of this post but I will try my best to explain what each pokemon does for the team. I made this team around a week or so after volcanion was released but never got around to posting it here. Also, I am not a great teambuilder but I am trying to learn. As mentioned, I tried to center this team around Volcanion and Mega Sceptile offensive core, and this is what came out of it.
Volcanion @ Choice Specs
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Steam Eruption
- Flamethrower
- Sludge Bomb
- Earth Power
Volcanion is currently a monster of a pokemon to switch into. With steam eruption, it burns its would be checks, such as assault vest Azumarill, and the sheer power of specs modest allows 2hkos on resists that many water types could only dream of. After rocks, even Latios is 2hkod by steam eruption.
252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Steam Eruption vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Latios: 136-161 (45.4 - 53.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
Truly powerful, I underestimated Volcanion before it was dropped. Max special attack for wallbreaking, and max speed so i can outspeed things like defensive Lando-T and speed tie with neutral base 70s like Bisharp. Sludge bomb for Clefable and Azumarill, and earth power for other Volcanions.
Sceptile-Mega @ Sceptilite
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Leaf Storm
- Giga Drain
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Now, just because Volcanion can beat some of its would be counters, there are things that can take hits from it such as Latias, Seismitoad, and other Volcanion. Enter Mega Sceptile, a ridiculously fast pokemon in the metagame capable of outspeeding things like Mega Lopunny, Mega Manectric, and speed ties with positive nature base 80 scarfers (hp fire causes this). Volcanion struggles with ground and electric types, while MEga Sceptile resists/immune to both and hits things like offensive Lando-T, Garchomp, and Excadrill really hard with leaf storm. Giga drain is there for some kind of recovery, dragon pulse to beat the dragons that would otherwise beat both of these pokemon mentioned, and hp fire for Ferrothorn since it loves to switch into Mega Sceptile. Volcanion deals with Heatran barring an earth power prediction anyways. Overgrow is there only cause in the very rare case of Overgrow leaf storm getting the kill on something Mega Sceptile otherwise would not, and unburden is completely useless anyways.
Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Crunch
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
- Superpower
Pretty standard Scarftar, usually Scarftar is better on balanced stall or stall teams, but otherwise the Latis just kind of toss me. Banded is something I considered, but I will leave this up to you guys since I really needed something to keep the Latis from outright beating my team.
Starmie @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 4 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Recover
- Rapid Spin
- Psychic
Here we got our spinner and Keldeo check wrapped into one pokemon. Defensive Starmie is my favorite set on Starmie, and I feel this works with my team since it gives me some kind of switchin into something. Recover for longevity, scald for burnability, rapid spin for utility, and psychic so my team doesn't just lose to Mega Venusaur and, to a lesser extent, Amoonguss. The 4 EVs in Sp. Def is there in case someone wants to use a Download Pokemon (Porygon2/Z) so they can't get that free boost.
Landorus-Therian @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 4 Atk / 240 Def / 16 SpD
Impish Nature
- U-turn
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
Really standard Defensive Lando-T, with knock off over stone edge because I can check talon with Volcanion and Ttar anyways. Knock also lets me get rid of Chansey's eviolite since this team really struggles against Chansey. Also wears down physical attackers very well.
Thundurus @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 30 HP / 0 Atk / 30 Def / 30 SpA / 30 SpD
- Nasty Plot
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Flying]
Now we get into nasty plot Thundurus-I. This thing is a monster at +2, and is my main way of dealing with Amoonguss and Mega Venusaur, especially since it lures in the two. HP Flying to actually beat the two while getting decent coverage with Thunderbolt overall, and thunder wave is like a top 5 move in the game so why would you not use it? Joking aside, it is used for speed control so things like Volcanion can start ripping apart teams.
THREAT LIST:
Mega Sceptile: I literally have to win the speed tie with my own, and I cannot twave it with Thundurus. Good thing it isn't all that common in OU.
Weavile: Holy god this annihilates my team, only thing I have right now to get around it is intimidate Lando on the knock, pivot into a full health Volcanion, and hope he gets greedy and stays in. Low kick variants especially toss this team.
Chansey: Can potentially wall my team, but knock off Lando-T helps alleviate that and superpower Tyranitar helps also.
Bisharp: Kind of the same thing as Weavile, only less so because Steel>Ice and its slower. Tyranitar outspeeds and kills with superpower (barring scarf, but that isn't common), and Lando can take a hit from full if necessary and KO back with EQ. Same with Volcanion and steam eruption.
Electric types with ice coverage: With the right predictions, they can really dent my team, but I do have a Tyranitar and Mega Sceptile to get around them.
Mega Gardevoir/Mega Medicham: Obviously the team isn't ridiculously bulky, so Mega Gardevoir especially dents my team. I do have Tyranitar to 50/50 them and get them weakened for Thundurus or Mega Sceptile at least.
There's probably more but I cannot think of anymore as of now.
I am sure the team is rough, but that's why I posted it here. Hopefully this post isn't too long, and thanks for taking the time to look at this.
