Project UU Next Best Thing Crown Tundra Edition: Week 52: Slowking | Voting Phase

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 12 Def / 244 SpD
Careful Nature
- Slack Off
- Earthquake
- Toxic
- Curse

This makes hippo an excelent abuser of scizor, cobalion, jirachi, zygarde-10%, scarf diggersby. This allows it to potentially clean late game as it can easily toxic most eq immune pokemon and make sure that it is unbreakable on the physical side. The sp. def makes it so it is a pain to take down from the special side as well little what can take it on. Hippo is also not weak as +1 eq is still hitting fairly hard against most neutral pokemon esp late game when you should reveal this

Sand Force Tank
:ss/hippowdon:
Hippowdon @ Soft Sand
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 108 HP / 252 Atk / 148 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Fire Fang
- Slack Off

If using a sand team with Gigalith and Excadrill, Hippowdon can make use of its often overlooked base 112 Attack and rarely used hidden ability to run this set. EdgeQuake coverage is obvious, and Fire Fang is used to hit Skarmory, Celesteela and Scizor. Soft Sand is used to boost Hippowdon's main attack while preserving its bulk and the ability to switch moves. The Speed outspeeds uninvested Scizor, with the rest put in HP for more bulk.

i'm boring but this should count as not the banned set here and is its realistic next best option and genuinely viable for a bunch of reasons (eg. not auto losing to offensive steela)

Hippowdon @ Leftovers / Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 8 Atk / 248 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Slack Off
- Toxic
- Whirlwind

EVs really don't matter nor item just mold it to the team.

Dropping rocks for both Toxic + Whirlwind is cool on hippo if u can fit nihi alongside it, nihi synergises well because of sand and stuff and you suddenly have a hippo that has the best of both worlds in terms of not being unable to punish a bunch of switches and general stuff it checks because of no toxic but also not being set up fodder to stuff like sciz / steela because it now has ww (the nihi also rly helps on that front but this is about hippo).

I made this hippowdon set to act as a counter to meteor beam nihilego, and act as a check to meteor beam celesteela. However yawn Hippowdon is not the greatest so you could swap out yawn for toxic and mainly just have hippo check MB Nihi.

Hippowdon @ Rindo Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 32 Def / 228 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Yawn / Toxic
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off

Hippowdon @ Assault Vest :Assault Vest:
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 8 Atk / 112 Def / 136 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Fire Fang
- Ice Fang
- Thunder Fang / Body Press / Rock Slide

I'm not exactly sure if this set works or not, but it allows Hippowdon to check a lot more special attackers such as Salamence, Thundurus-Therian, and Nihilego; whilst having enough defense to deal with Excadrill, Zygarde-10%, and Scizor at the cost of having no recovery. Earthquake is self-explanatory and is the basic STAB option, Fire Fang allows Hippowdon to deal decent damage to Scizor and Ceelsteela, Ice Fang grants Hippowdon to punish the likes of Salamence and Thundurus-Therian, and Thunder Fang is decent for Water-types such as Gyarados and Mantine. Body Press and Rock Slide are good options for coverage although Thunder Fang in theory, provides more support. The given EV spread allows Hippowdon to OHKO Excadrill and avoid a 2HKO from Zygarde-10%.

Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe

This set is for dedicated sand teams, as teammates such as Sand Rush Excadrill like having sand up.
This set allows Hippowdown to set up Rocks, and phase threats so that they take Stealth Rock Damage. The EV spread is listed to ensure Hippowdon survives a grass knot from Nasty Plot Thundurus-T.
