So we all know Registeel as part of the 3 original Golems (Before SS introduced 2 more) in Hoenn, Registeel started off as an ok pick in ADV OU that was shy from viability due to Jirachi (Wishmaker) & Metagross hogging the spotlight in both offense & defensive teams.
By DPP however, Registeel hasn't changed much aside from receiving an indirect buff thanks to its mixed walling potential & blessed by a superb typing while the former OU golem Regice & BL Regirock (Callous's fav?) fell towards NU hell. Even with Registeel's status as a UU behemoth did it still remain unseen in OU as Bronzong completely eclipses the Iron Giant.
I was a bit inspired to make a Registeel Stall team after witnessing Malekith's SPL this year revealing a Registeel team (Inspired by Callous's team on Discord, shout out to johnnyg2 for posting this info), even though Malekith lost to Crucify, I still thought it be cool if I could make a Registeel team since the DPP OU VR thread had expert players proclaiming Registeel's promise as a decent Steel.
Without further a due, let's go:
Jirachi (Careful Nature) 252 Hp/144 Sp Def/112 Spd
Choice Scarf
-Iron Head
-U Turn
-Stealth Rock
-Trick
Everyone's favorite Wishmaker is back again, this time rising above its former rank in ADV from A to a solid S in DPP is here! (Personally, Latias is #1 IMO)
Jirachi has plenty of tricks under its sleeve & much like the rest of the S tiers in OU does it pack both unpredictability & utility for the team, double Steels are solid staples in slowish teams to keep Latias in check from rampaging my team. ScarfRachi provides excellent information thanks to U Turn & can even use Trick to annoy opposing Stall. Could also be used as a soft DD Tar check if needed.
Registeel (Calm Nature) 252 Hp/88 Def/168 Sp Def
Leftovers
-Counter
-Seismic Toss
-Toxic
-HP Ghost
"Wait a minute, what the heck are you doing with a Registeel in OU?!" "Use Bronzong, idiot!"
Hold on a sec, let's cut to the chase on why this Registeel set imo is solid for OU:
-The Smog Dex sample is outdated as hell, maybe intended as a lead? Even with Adamant, Registeel's 75 Atk hits like a wet tissue & can't even carve fattier teams without relying on a predictable boom that will be for naught if a player switches into a Ghost such as Rotom.
-Stealth Rock on a Registeel is extremely Vanilla, while it's tricky to apply SR on a Rachi as I'd miss having paralysis on a Lati, I feel like Regi can do more than being an ersatz Bronzong.
-Registeel has 1 niche that the Steels in OU don't, being able to give Magnezone a hard time. Though Rachi can use Fire Punch or HP Ground, Wishrachi has a harder time brute forcing through a Magnezone. Registeel however can shrug off Thunderbolts & in return threaten Mag with Seismic Toss.
-I hate Thunder Wave on Regi since I feel it attracts Dugtrio & Rhyperior in UU, same can be said about OU with Swampert & Gliscor (Watch out for Ice Punch), Toxic is a surprise option that can annoy defensive Latias & bulky Ground on the switch. Counter is solid as a soft DD check.
-HP Ghost > Shadow Claw, still does the same input as Shadow Claw & can break through Rotom's subs, also bc both Gar & Rotom can burn Registeel.
Latias (Bold Nature) 252 Hp/200 Def/56 Spd
Leftovers
-Calm Mind
-Dragon Pulse
-Roar
-Recover
Here we have an actual #1 for DPP OU, Latias herself descend from Ubers chaos to OU after imprisoned wrongfully in 2019!
Latias is a solid Pokemon that provides this team with a breaker in case if I get into long drawn Clef war, as relying heavily on Rachi puts too many eggs onto 1 basket. Latias can apply pressure to weakened teams late game & can be used as a soft Gyara check (DPP Butcher) for back up.
Latias is overall a solid mixed wall that provides this team a Water & Grass resist, could also be used to check the oh so annoying piece of shiitake Breloom (Even more annoying than Rachi, at least Rachi is somewhat tolerable), just be incredibly mindful that Tar breathes on Latias's neck & don't be an idiot.
Gliscor (Jolly Nature) 252 Hp/4 Def/252 Spd
Leftovers
-Taunt
-Roost
-Earthquake
-Ice Fang
Is it just me, or is Gliscor kinda underrated? Ah well, Gliscor has always been a splendid Pokemon even before BW granted the Scorpion Bat immunity to radioactive minerals lol. (The Anime did Gliscor DIRTY, but Paul had a cool Gliscor)
Gliscor is a terrific stallbreaker that can also give sub Rotom trouble thanks to Taunt bypassing through Substitutes, can also be utilized as a Breloom check as Gliscor can take FP pretty well (Be wary that Roosting can expose you to Seed Bomb) & provides this team with both an Electric immunity along with a levitator.
Clefable (Calm Nature) 252 Hp/4 Def/252 Sp Def
Leftovers
-Wish
-Protect
-Seismic Toss
-Knock Off
Wow! 2 UU Pokemon (Clef is UU by Technicality, but ah well) in this team! WishClef is a pretty decent choice as Rachi takes the mantle as a Trick user, so Clef is needed to provide this team with adequate wishes for attritional warfare. Knock off is evil as Yama & Armaldo made use of Knock in ADV, Clef (& rarely Gliscor) can make use out of Knock off shenanigans. When using Wish Clef, it's important to remain proactive as Clef is immune to all status & hazards, so make use to double switch & abuse Clef's powers that catapulted her to Stardom during COVID!
Tentacruel (Calm Nature) 244 Hp/100 Def/164 Sp Def
Black Sludge
-Sludge Bomb
-Surf
-Rapid Spin
-Toxic Spikes
Last on our list, we have the dreaded Tentacruel! I personally think the DPP VR was incredibly harsh on Cruel as even though Nidoqueen is better as a T-Spiker (Or Rose on offense), Tentacruel does provide this team:
-Protection against Specs Emp/Ran, both Specs Empo & Ran can cleave Clef in half, even though Clef is a menace in DPP OU, it's by no means a Blissey. So Tenta can switch in to resist & in return can lay out T-Spikes for momentum.
-I've noticed 1 massive flaw with both Callous & Malekith's Regi team is they both lack pressure, since Registeel is a passive Pokemon, I feel like having another hazard is needed to put pressure on opposing teams.
-Togekiss is a terrible Breloom check as Breloom can use Superpower (or FP) in retaliation, forcing Toge to unnecessarily invest Physical Bulk. I also feel like Air Slash is pretty piss now that Machamp is sent to exile to Ubers.
-Tenta also acts as a 3rd Breloom check bc both Clef & Regi hate Breloom, Sludge Bomb does the trick.
-Even though my team isn't affected by T-Spikes, Jirachi, Regi, Lati, & Gliscor appreciates Rocks & Spikes off the field.
Threats:
Mixed Dragons:
Pretty scary since mixed Dragons can fire off a myriad of attacks off combined with Spikes, Flygon being the scariest as that Garchomp dual typing bites much harder. Make sure to maneuver wisely & finish off Gon when the opportunity strikes.
Calm Mind Clef?
I think Calm Mind Clef can give this team trouble? Have Rachi trick off a Scarf before headbutting Clef, just don't let this beast set up.
