Torkoal is an integral part of sun teams for its ability Drought and other support tools. By utilizing its great physical bulk to switch into wallbreakers such as Zeraora and Choice Band Aegislash, Torkoal can set sun multiple times and gain opportunities to set Stealth Rock. Lava Plume lets Torkoal have a better shot at punishing potential switch-ins such as Toxapex, Terrakion, and Kommo-o. Because of its passivity, Yawn is helpful to prevent setup sweepers like Hydreigon, Calm Mind Clefable, and Snorlax from taking advantage of it. Rapid Spin lets Torkoal function as a secondary source of entry hazard removal, although Toxic is a viable alternative to punish Pokemon like Mandibuzz, Hippowdon, Pelipper, and Seismitoad.

Pokemon such as Venusaur and Darmanitan that appreciate sun support are essential teammates. They both also benefit from Stealth Rock wearing down checks like Rotom-H and Kommo-o, and Venusaur gives sun teams a Water-resistant Pokemon. Since Torkoal is unreliable as a primary entry hazard remover, Mandibuzz is a great partner that can also switch into special wallbreakers such as Dragapult and Aegislash. In return, Torkoal can check Zeraora. Dugtrio is a useful partner for trapping non-Shed Shell Tyranitar, helping Torkoal keep sun up.

Torkoal is an integral part of sun teams for its ability Drought and other support tools. By utilizing its great physical bulk to switch into wallbreakers such as Zeraora and Choice Band Aegislash, Torkoal can set sun multiple times and gains opportunities to set Stealth Rock. It's worth mentioning why you opt for Lava Plume, i.e., to have a much better shot at burning potential switch-ins like Toxapex, Terrakion, and Kommo-o. Because of its passivity, Yawn is helpful to prevent setup sweepers like Hawlucha from taking advantage of it. Hawlucha is not a great example since Lava Plume is a 2HKO in sun and Torkoal is physically bulky enough to live any +2 hit easily; it also fears a burn. I'd say Hydreigon and Snorlax are better examples. Rapid Spin lets Torkoal function as a secondary source of entry hazard removal, although Toxic is a viable alternative to punish Pokemon like Kommo-o, Mandibuzz, and Seismitoad. Add Pelipper as an example since it wants to come in on Torkoal often to keep rain up; it also has access to Defog to remove Stealth Rock. Hippowdon is worth a mention too for similar reasons.

Pokemon such as Venusaur and Darmanitan that appreciate sun support are essential teammates. They both also benefit from Stealth Rock wearing down checks like Rotom-H and Kommo-o, and Venusaur gives sun teams a Water-resistant Pokemon. Since Torkoal is unreliable as a primary entry hazard remover, Mandibuzz is a great partner that can also switch into special wallbreakers such as Dragapult and Hydreigon. Hydreigon isn't a great example since Mandibuzz drops to a +2 Draco Meteor; Aegislash might be worth mentioning instead. In return, Torkoal can check Zeraora. Dugtrio should be mentioned since it can trap opposing Tyranitar (lacking Shed Shell), making it much easier for Torkoal to keep sun up.
