Cave area 5: Mural Cavern

The first thing you notice in the cavern is that it's actually well lit - crystals sparsely dotting the walls are glowing brightly enough to help you see just fine. Many of the walls have been smoothed out, all with murals painstakingly engraved upon them. The biggest one of all sits over the symbol of Arceus, depicting four people riding on what appear to be Rapidash (and one Zebstrika) charging at some indescribable horror. You trudge forward to get a closer look, but are interrupted by a flash of malevolent light, and a hooded man in purple now stands between you and the image.

"I've strong memories of that fight. I'm glad I emerged victorious. But still...he's here. I can sense him. After nearly a year, I'm closing in on him..."

As he turns to face you, every fiber of your being screams at you to get the hell out of there. It turns out he wasn't wearing a hood - his hair's just as purple as his garb. His flesh, on the other hand, is a sickly green. He chuckles condescendingly as he looks at you...

"Kekeke...I didn't mean to be rude. Allow me to introduce myself, although you probably know me already..."

Well, he was right about you knowing him; he introduced himself as none other than Itsumo, the demon lord of destruction. His snide grin turns to a scowl as he grips his head in frustration.

"Of course, with setback after setback...the failure in the Icy Crater, being tossed off of the pillar by my own servant, months and months of looking for that mortal Walker, and so much more...do you have any idea how that made me feel?"

Itsumo suddenly jerked his body upwards.

"FURIOUS!"

A thick black miasma started to waft from his body.

"OUTRAGED!"

And then he disappeared in a puff of smoke, his screams of rage shaking the cavern.

"SICK! WITH! ANGER!"

As the miasma began to dissipate, the demon lord appeared behind you without much warning.

"Perhaps I channeled the words of another demon lord long lost, but no matter. I'm curious to see what mortals unprepared are capable of, but it does seem...unfair to take out my anger in full upon you. No...again, in the words of the lost demon lord, I'll only beat you to within an inch of your lives!"

"Now then...put on a good show!"

Black miasma starts to flow from the demon lord's hand, materializing into a sword. It looked more artsy than practical, but as effortlessly as Itsumo could swing it, it was an intimidating number nonetheless.

If there is, the demon lord obviously won't tell you. Either way, you'll have to find out for yourself.

...But they all stop just millimeters before your flesh. Itsumo pauses, straining himself, as if trying to catch a sound. After a few tense moments, he sighs with disgust, and the blades all dissipate.

♫Endgame

"Damn it all...I've wasted too much time with you; my unwitting servant's gone. I should have known better than to chase that Natu..."

Itsumo turns away.

"No matter, I must resume the hunt elsewhere. I'll leave you with your lives...for now. But know this: Cross my path again, and you will know true pain. May you one day wake to find that you were only a dream..."

The demon lord vanishes in a puff of purple smoke and green orbs, and the oppressive atmosphere lifts instantly. The symbol of Arceus on the great mural begins to glow brightly for a moment, and the sound of stone scraping on stone can be heard behind you...it's a path further down the mountain!

"That mural depicts the the four riders who fought against Itsumo so long ago," Cassida begins. "The one on the the ordinary Rapidash is War, Plague rides the white one, then there's Famine on the Zebstrika, and the one in the back with the shiny Rapidash is Death. Ultimately they failed to stop the demon lord, and lost their lives in the process...but they did manage to significantly weaken him, enough for the avatars of emotion, knowledge and willpower to seal him away."

The horsemen of the apocalypse, helping save the world? You couldn't help but chuckle at the irony.

Cave Area 6: Arceus Plate Platform

...Wow. This place is impressive. Huge, too; at least a hundred feet in diameter. Giant pillars line the walls, and in the center of the room is a large platform. A moat lies in between you and this platform, along with a stone bridge. Also on the platform is what you estimate to be fifteen or sixteen pillars that appear to be lighting an altar in the very center...you can't quite make it out from this distance, but there appears to be something sitting atop the altar...

After hearing Cassida talk about the mural, Terra was rather confused. Why would something that heralds the end of times in the stories try to save the world from destruction?

"The horsemen of the apocalypse helping to save the world...you're kidding right? That doesn't make a lick of sense."

"Heh, I suppose it doesn't to most. The thing is, they aren't inherently evil, despite being the avatars of such gruesome things. Everything must have an opposite for there to be balance, you can't know what Peace is without War, nor Health without Plague."

Terra simply gave a blank stare.

"Ah but enough discussion about philosophy for now, let's head onwards."

It was then that Maxim came charging in, ready to save Terra...

"GUYS I'M HERE TO RESCUE...wait, where's the bad guy?"

("Simple you idiot, we missed him.")

"Yeah, we sorta defeated Itsumo already."

Maxim gave a flabbergasted look, but then Terra explained that Itsumo had simply run away.

"Oh, I see. At any rate, I suppose we should continue on. Hopefully Walker is still here."

"Doubtful, alas. But yeah, maybe we'll find our next clue beyond."

The trio had started to head down the now opened path, but Maxim stopped when he realized Malus was looking at something.

("What is it now Malus?")

("Hmm, this mural...It's different from the big one at the center of the room, and interests me the most.")

("It's just depicting a sword, albeit one that seems quite nasty.")

("Heh, that's because you don't understand, the glyphs here seem to be referring to a 'Sword of Darkness' or something to that effect. I think we could very well use that power for our own ends.")

("Mmm...Perhaps. Still, you seem troubled by something.")

("Well, you see, I probed Terra's mind a little bit, and I heard the words 'unwitting pawn' come from Itsumo. We both have had lots of experience with this term. Mostly with being unwitting pawns.")

("Yeah, but what does that mean?")

("...")

("Oh no you don't! Don't give me that crap again. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me! I ain't being fooled for a third time, so tell me what you're thinking.")

("...Fine, I suppose there's no harm in letting you know.")

Maxim gave Malus a glare that said "Try to kill him on my watch and screw the consequences, you're dead". Malus recoiled a bit at that, but followed his master downstairs.

In the Arceus Plate room, Terra marveled at the architecture for a bit, then said.

"Huh, I wonder what that is sitting in the center of the room?"

"Hmm...we should probably approach it, see what happens."

Suspecting a trap, AOPS lags behind to keep an eye out, but Terra rushes forward to the altar.

As Terra and her Colossoil move closer to the altar, they notice the something in question atop it is a lone Natu...or at least a very lifelike statue of one. It doesn't move, and besides, what would a wild Natu be doing in a cave? Thinking it might be the key to something, Terra reaches out to pick it up.

Cassida starts to speak up. "Uh, I wouldn't-"
