With the first round of the World Cup of Pokémon on the horizon, it is time for its qualifier. 15 total teams wish to enter this tournament and play on the big stage, but only four can make it in. Will we see some change, or will the old order prevail? Let's find out!


Format:

Teams consist of ten starters, three to five substitutes, and two captains. Games will be played in SV OU, SS OU, SM OU, ORAS OU, SV UU, and SV Ubers.

In the qualifier format, each team will play 20 games in a preliminary Round Robin. The top 2 teams in the Round Robin will automatically qualify for the World Cup of Pokémon, while seeds 3 through 6 will enter playoffs, from which two more teams will qualify. (The 3rd seed against the 6th and the 4th against the 5th)

Tiebreakers

Any ties for 2nd-3rd will be broken by additional bo3 tiebreaker series at the end of the Round Robin if necessary.

If there is a tie for seeding within the 3rd-6th places, it will instead be broken by the strength of schedule (SoS) of the teams involved. Due to the asymmetric nature of these pairings, teams will not have strictly equal schedules; whichever team faced opponents that finished with the better overall record will take the higher seed in that case.
Should SoS also be tied, h2h will be used, and if h2h is also tied, the teams will be considered fully tied and the higher seed will be drawn at random.

SoS may also be used liberally by the hosts as a last resort to avoid any situations that may potentially result in indefinite tiebreakers (eg. a 3-way tiebreak that repeatedly ties). Such situations will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Substitution:

This year we have three to five subs per roster, and Captains may use them as they see fit. Keep in mind once a player is subbed out, they cannot be subbed back into the same round.

Substitutions will be not be allowed in tiebreak series unless both teams agree (or TDs enforce double sub). We will be reluctant to give activity wins to those who are clearly fishing for them.

Deadlines:

All battles are to be completed by Sunday, May 4th, 2025 at 11:00 pm GMT-4. Battles that are not completed will be reviewed for activity and have a winner declared accordingly. If both parties are at fault, the game will simply not count in deciding final standing. Activity calls will not be made before the round is over.

Com a primeira rodada da Copa do Mundo de Pokémon chegando, é hora das eliminatórias. 15 seleções desejam entrar nesse torneio e jogar no evento principal, mas apenas quatro poderão participar. Será que teremos mudanças, ou a ordem anterior prevalecerá? Vamos descobrir!


Formato:

Seleções consistem de dez titulares, três a cinco reservas e dois capitães. As partidas serão jogadas em SV OU, SS OU, SM OU, ORAS OU, SV UU e SV Ubers.

No formato de eliminatórias, cada seleção jogará 20 partidas em uma preliminar no estilo "todos contra todos". As 2 primeiras seleções no formato Todos Contra Todos estarão automaticamente garantidas na Copa do Mundo de Pokémon, enquanto as seleções do terceiro ao sexto lugar entrarão na repescagem, na qual apenas mais duas seleções poderão garantir uma vaga para o evento principal. (O terceiro colocado contra o sexto e o quarto contra o quinto)

Desempates

Quaisquer empates entre o segundo e terceiro lugares será desempatado por uma série de melhor de três adicional no fim da Rodada Todos Contra Todos, caso necessário.

Em caso de empate do terceiro ao sexto lugar, o desempate será feito de acordo com a strength of schedule (SoS) das seleções envolvidas. Devido a natureza assimétrica desses pareamentos, as seleções não terão programações iguais. Portanto, a seleção que enfrentar oponentes que terminaram com um placar melhor serão colocadas em uma posição melhor.
Caso a SoS também esteja empatada, as seleções serão consideradas totalmente empatadas e a melhor colocação será escolhida de forma aleatória.

SoS também poderá ser usada de forma livre pelos organizadores como último recurso para evitar quaisquer situações que poderiam gerar desempates indefinidos (exemplo: um desempate entre 3 seleções que empatam repetidamente). Situações como essa serão tratadas caso a caso.

Substituição:

Esse ano teremos de três a cinco reservas por seleção e os Capitães poderão usar eles como quiserem. Entenda que, uma vez que um jogador é substituído, ele não poderá ser colocado de volta na mesma rodada.

Substituições não serão permitidas em séries de desempate, a menos que ambas as seleções concordem em fazê-las (ou caso TDs imponham a substituição dupla). Seremos relutantes em dar vitórias por atividade para aqueles que claramente estão buscando por elas.

Prazos:

Todas as partidas devem ser completadas até Domingo, 19 de Maio de 2024, às 23:00 horas GMT -4. Partidas que não forem finalizadas serão revisadas por atividade e o ganhador será escolhido de acordo. Caso ambos envolvidos tenham culpa, a partida simplesmente não irá contar para a classificação final. Pedidos de vitória por atividade não poderão ser feitos antes do fim da rodada.

Con la primera ronda de la World Cup of Pokémon acercándose ha llegado el momento para su fase eliminatoria. Un total de 15 equipos desea entrar a este torneo y jugar el evento principal, pero solo quatro pueden entrar. ¿Veremos alguna sorpresa?, ¿o prevalecerá el viejo orden? ¡Averigüémoslo!


Formato:

Los equipos constan de diez titulares, de tres a cinco suplentes y dos capitanes. Los combates se realizarán en SV OU, SS OU, SM OU, ORAS OU, SV UU y SV Ubers.

En el formato de eliminatorias, cada equipo librará veinte combates en un Round Robin preliminar. Los primeros dos equipos calificarán automáticamente para la World Cup of Pokémon, mientras que los cabezas de serie del terceiro al sexto entrarán a las eliminatorias, de las que se clasificarán dos equipos más. (El terceiro cabeza de serie contra el sexto y el quarto contra el quinto).

Desempates

Cualquier empate por el segundo o terceiro lugar será resuelto con una serie de desempate adicional al mejor de tres al final del Round Robin, si fuera necesario.

Si hay un empate entre los puestos 3° a 6°, será resuelto en función de la fuerza de los rivales de los equipos involucrados (strength of schedule o SoS). Debido a la naturaleza asimétrica de estos emparejamientos, los equipos no tendrán calendarios estrictamente iguales; el equipo que enfrente a los rivales que hayan tenido el mejor resultado general será el cabeza de serie más alto en ese caso. En caso de que el SoS también esté empatado, los equipos se considerarán totalmente igualados y el cabeza de serie más alto se elegirá al azar.

La SoS también puede ser usada por los organizadores como un último recurso para evitar situaciones que puedan resultar en desempates indefinidos (por ej.: un triple desempate que empata repetidamente). Tales situaciones se tratarán en base a cada caso particular.

Suplencia:

Este año tenemos de tres a cinco suplentes por equipo, y los capitanes pueden utilizarlos como consideren oportuno. Ten en cuenta que una vez que un jugador es sustituido, no puede volver a entrar en la misma ronda.

No se permitirán sustituciones en las series de desempate a menos que ambos equipos estén de acuerdo (o los TD impongan la doble sustitución). Seremos reacios a dar victorias por ausencia (activity win) a aquellos que las estén buscando intencionalmente.

Fechas límite:

Todos los combates deben completarse antes del domingo 19 de mayo de 2024, a las 11:00 p.m. GMT-4. Los combates que no se completen serán revisados por activity y tendrán un ganador declarado en consecuencia. Si ambas partes están en falta, el juego no contará al decidir la posición final. Los reclamos de activity no se harán antes de que la ronda haya terminado.

I remember when several years ago, Argentina was losing to Belgium when on top of that, the chinchilla mascot of one argentinian players passed away. The argentinian player tried to reschedule, there was enough time for that, but his opponent decided to tales advantage of the sorrow and forced him to play at a bad moment. Enraged, that player and all the remaining argentinians won their battles and got to the next round. Since then, despite half of the guys probably voting for Milei, Argentina is my favorite qualifying team, hopefully this time they finally make it to the main event and recover the Malvinas too.
