XY OU Team based around Mega Houndoom - Howling at the moon

Introduction:

Hey everyone! I have been a follower of the Smogon scene for years but only now decided to get involved and make an account :) In pokemon xy ou on Pokemon Online I have reached the top 200 so that is pretty good I guess and I have 760 hours on x as I write this woop(er)

Anyway I wasn't really a fan of megas when they were first introduced and personally haven't used them much when battling. However I suddenly took a fancy to Mega Houndoom and over the last few days have constructed this team.

Here it is and i'd love advice on how to make it better and what you think about it as it stands!

Rotom – W w/ Chesto berry

Hp 252/Def 210/Spe 48

Bold

Levitate

-Will-o-wisp

-Rest

-Volt switch

-Hydro pump

Rotom is my primary tank and a way of countering threats (outside of mold breaker) such as talonflames priority brave bird/ swords dancing boosting aegislash/ my secondary way of fighting against water types, and grounds who majorly threaten both Excadrill/Ninetales/Houndoom. This set mirrors Ninetales except is designed to cripple the enemy with Will-o-wisp and take them out or switch to something more suitable with volt switch as a tanky pivot. Hydro pump is high damage stab which is great for whittling at the opponent whilst rest is used as recovery so as it can keep doing its job later while also expunging it of the status effects which are often used by an opponent to cripple it.

Ninetales w/Heat rock

Hp 248/ SpD 140/ Spe 120

Calm

Drought

-Will-o-wisp

-Rest

-Sleep talk

-Flamethrower

I needed an automatic Sun setter and seeing as I can’t use charizard y as I am using my mega slot, Ninetales is the obvious choice. Due to the nerf of the ability Drought, Ninetales can’t effectively run special attacking sets anymore as Heat rock is required to get 7 turns of sun. Seeing as She is my only reliable sun setter I invested fully in specially defensive bulk and accompanied that with will-o-wisp to make up for its low defenses. I need it to stay around aslong as possible so sleeptalk was implemented and flamethrower is the move of choice as it hits for the most damage although it can’t cripple flash fire users of fire types so a way to be able to switch into such safely and counter them is necessary.

Houndoom w/Houndoominitie

Def 4/ SpA 252/Spe 252

Timid

Flash fire/ Solar power

-Nasty plot

-Fire blast

-Dark pulse

-Destiny bond

The premium special attacker of the set. Houndoom can switch into a predicted fire type attack directed at Breloom or Excadrill to give it a flash fire boost. Next mega evolve - Preferably under sun to buff its fire attacks and to boost its damage with solar power, also allowing it to outpace most of the meta. Its great utility in Destiny bond allows it to be able to sacrifice itself to take out a dangerous slower threat, force switches and possibly allow for a nasty plot boost on the predict (If it is possible to survive that long) If not use STAB Fire blasts and Dark pulses to do a lot of damage.

Breloom w/Focus sash

Def 4/At 252/Spe 252

Adamant

Technician

-Spore

-Seed bomb

-Rock tomb

-Mach punch

My answer to taking care of the bulky waters which would have my team for breakfast, with seed bomb which handily is great for breaking subsitutes and focus sashes on the likes of Dugtrio who can use arena trap on excadrill/houndoom/ninetales and proceed to take them out.. Spore allows me to put to sleep threats that wall Breloom or threaten my team so as I can switch to something more suitable.

Mach punch is beautiful technician boosted priority for killing steels and normals such as blissey aswell as being able to take out weakened threats which outpace it. Finally rock tomb can be used for a predicted switch such as talonflame for major damage. Also to slow the opponent allowing for Slow but powerful Breloom to fire off with more damage.

Excadrill w/Air baloon

Def 4/At 252/Spe 252

Jolly

Mold breaker

-Rapid spin

-Swords Dance

-Rock slide

-Earthquake

Excadrill is my rapid spinner and pairs well with sylveon to assist the defensive core with a key resitance of poison and can tank a bullet punch any day every day. I chose a jolly nature to be able to outspeed dragonite which is a prominent threat in the tier. Ideally I would be packing stealthrocks but am without a white 2/ black 2 game at the moment. Earthquake and Rockslide give good coverage alongside mold breaker. Swords dance is used on a predicted switch or to allow Excadrill to act as a powerful wallbreaker. This will work especially well against toxic stall and air balloon is used to prevent damage from earthquakes while Houndoom can be used to sponge any fire type attacks directed at him.

Sylveon
w/leftovers

HP 252/Def 252/SpA 4

Bold

Cute charm

-Wish

-Protect

-Shadow ball

-Moonblast

Sylveon adds to the team nicely by having great utility in wish pass and toxic stall whilst also having great synergy with the entire team – Being able to tank fire type attacks directed at both Breloom and Excadrill as well as its only weaknesses being to steel and poison which are both heavily covered by the other members of the team. Moonblast is used as a way of lowering the opponent’s special defense and do good damage with stab and high base power.

Main problems I can see so far:

- I don't have any hazards setter
- Maybe not maximising use of sun
- When sylveon and rotom-w are gone my team can get swept by priority and weakness policy users aswell as talonflame and greninja
- I have no taunt for shutting down boosters
- If Mega Houndoom isn't MEvolved at the correct time it can get outsped and killed by the likes of Infernape
-Ninetales doesn't seem to be functioning aswell as it should with the prevalence of fire types meaning will-o-wisp can't cripple them and is therefore solely a sun setter
-Haven't gone against any taunt users yet but i'm assuming they can be annoying to this team

Thanks :D - Also if you want to battle against this team on xy to see it in action leave friend codes below aswell as trainer name. My FC is 4184-2561-8319

I have suggestion,if instead of breloom you use a grass type that can use the sun in it's favor like victrebell or leavanny, as both are also physical sweepers and they will outspeed many pokemon with the chlorophyl

Hey yeh the problem is I used Breloom to patch up my team. It has a powerful fighting type move to take care of Blissey/Chansey while also being able to take out waters. So adding a chlorophyl user seems problematic at this point without also having to move other things around - but I will have a look thanks
