Resource SV 1v1 Set Compendium [In Production] [Apply Now!]

Decided to take initiative because this tier going so long without a setcomp has been a frustrating travesty and it sucks because this tier is 1v1s best rn. This paste is obviously incomplete and scuffed in some places but its a start. Mostly gave a pass to the top tiers and threw in some random B tiers that i felt were strong/relevant. GL to everyone competing in World Cup!

Iron Moth @ Power Herb

- Meteor Beam
- Overheat
- Sludge Wave
- Substitute

In DLC 2, Iron Moth got access to the TM for meteor beam, which gives it a much better matchup into other fire types, mainly Gouging Fire.

Speed for base 100s (i.e.: Zapdos), spatk allows you to OHKO non-specially defensive Gouging Fire, and the defense means 252+ booster Gouging Fire flame charge only has a 6.3% chance to break substitute for those worried about meteor beaming into burning bulwark. The defense is also good to live a non-booster Gouging Fire outrage. So, against booster energy, sub t1, if a booster doesn't show up, meteor beam t1 into sludge wave for more specially defensive Gougings.

Substitute improves the matchup into Primarina, which typically carries only Hydro Cannon as a water stab and allows a more consistent matchup against booster energy Gouging Fire.

+1 168 SpA Iron Moth Meteor Beam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Gouging Fire: 414-488 (100 - 117.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Protosynthesis Gouging Fire Flame Charge vs. 0 HP / 164 Def Iron Moth: 63-75 (20.9 - 24.9%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
Possible damage amounts: (63, 64, 65, 66, 66, 67, 68, 69, 69, 70, 71, 72, 72, 73, 74, 75) (Sub is 75 hp; you cannot, unfortunately, spare the evs to make this 100%)
252+ Atk Gouging Fire Outrage vs. 0 HP / 164 Def Iron Moth: 237-279 (78.7 - 92.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+1 168 SpA Iron Moth Meteor Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Zapdos: 428-504 (111.4 - 131.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

168 SpA Iron Moth Overheat vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Corviknight: 486-572 (121.5 - 143%) -- guaranteed OHKO (Max/Max Corv can take one overheat and roost spam)

+1 168 SpA Iron Moth Meteor Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Volcanion: 428-504 (117.5 - 138.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO (Again, AV is an issue)

168 SpA Iron Moth Overheat vs. 248 HP / 136 SpD Metagross: 402-474 (110.7 - 130.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO (It does not ko AV Metagross, which is the major shortcoming of this set)

+1 168 SpA Iron Moth Meteor Beam vs. 252 HP / 32 SpD Baxcalibur: 428-504 (98.6 - 116.1%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
Alt evs: +1 224 SpA Iron Moth Meteor Beam vs. 252 HP / 32 SpD Baxcalibur: 444-524 (102.3 - 120.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Archaludon Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Iron Moth: 210-247 (69.7 - 82%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 168 SpA Iron Moth Meteor Beam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Archaludon: 92-109 (23.9 - 28.3%) -- 96% chance to 4HKO

Replays - Pokémon Showdown! (pokemonshowdown.com) - Iron Moth vs. Gouging Fire. TGO1v1 was already aware it was meteor beam.
To be honest, most of my replays with this set are useless because they are of meteor beam missing.

Tyranitar is ranked at C, but has no set in the current setcomp. In my opinion, the choice band set from the old set comp can be slightly optimized for the current meta.

:Tyranitar:
Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
Tera Type: Rock
EVs: 248 HP / 172 Atk / 56 Def / 32 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Knock Off
- Earthquake / Outrage / Avalanche
- Earthquake / Outrage / Avalanche

Spdef lets you tank a Primarina hydro cannon from outside torrent as well as timid specs bundle and timid specs wake (bulky booster Wake with chilling water wins though). The spdef also gives favorable rolls against WP Iron Crown. The attack lets you 2hko standard Primarina with earthquake. The rest is in defense, which lets you live two uninvested Regidrago outrages (if haban) or an uninvested Avalugg-H body press (though that's not really too important).

Stone edge is the standard STAB, knock OHKOes standard Metagross while crunch only rolls. Earthquake for Prim and Whimsicott (it breaks sub), outrage if you want to beat Walking Wake, avalanche something for something like really physically bulky Whismicott or Landorus-Incarnate without focus blast I guess.

252+ Atk Protosynthesis Gouging Fire Outrage vs. 248 HP / 56 Def Tyranitar: 225-265 (55.8 - 65.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
176+ Atk Choice Band Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Gouging Fire: 444-524 (107.5 - 126.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Primarina Hydro Cannon vs. 248 HP / 32 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 338-402 (83.8 - 99.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
176+ Atk Choice Band Tyranitar Earthquake vs. 240 HP / 152 Def Primarina: 185-218 (51.2 - 60.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage

176+ Atk Choice Band Tyranitar Outrage vs. 4 HP / 244 Def Regidrago: 500-590 (92.2 - 108.8%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO (Sand greatly improves this roll).

I only have the one replay of this set, unfortunately.

Making the Iron Crown matchup 100% reliable requires sacrificing enough evs that you no longer reliably beat Regidrago or Prim.

Edit: s/o kenn for help with eving and for wanting to use Tyranitar in the first place.

The 36 Spdef means that you always live 2 Tachyon Cutters from a 108 spa Iron Crown and 216+ attack allows you to ohko the fast WP in the compendium after a DD and focus energy. You also win against the speed booster set by Dragon Dancing twice. The speed is so you always outspeed ogerpon after a dragon dance, and the defense lets you live a 252+ choice band hyperspace fury from hoopa unbound.

140+ SpA Protosynthesis :raging-bolt: Thunderbolt vs. +1 96 HP / 0 SpD :iron-crown:: 127-150 (36.8 - 43.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO (Taunt the Iron Crown, then you win with 2 Thunderbolts and a Thunderclap)
252+ SpA :Primarina: Moonblast vs. 176 HP / 8 SpD :raging-Bolt:: 366-432 (84.1 - 99.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Beating Primarina in a matchup it seems like it would win is huge. Even if it is wacan/custap thunderclap kills.
252+ Atk Choice Band Protean :Meowscarada: Play Rough vs. 176 HP / 184 Def Raging Bolt: 386-456 (88.7 - 104.8%) -- 25% chance to OHKO
In the off chance you come across an adamant banded max attack :Meowscarada:, it probably won't even OHKO you.

Unfortunately, almost every Raging Bolt set loses against a mirror dragon type, such as :baxcalibur:, :gouging-fire:, :archaludon:, :regidrago:, and even :goodra-hisui:.

4 evs less on paper but that's because apparently I miscalculated the spD in the previous one so there's actually still a minute chance to get 2hkoed by Hoopa. Are there better odds to lose to a crit than for that roll to happen? Yes, but whatever I'm meticulous.

Defense ensures it has a 75% chance to live max+ Sneasler reversal, always lives Hoopa banded Zen headbutt, and always gets 3hkoed by offensive oger outside of crits. Special defense always gets 3hkoed by standard av hoopa psychic noise (although psychic beats it), and always lives an bloodmoon's earth power at -1 spD. 12 speed creeps creep creepers. Rest is dumped into atk.

EVs: 216 HP / 252 Def / 40 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Malignant Chain
- Shadow Ball
- Nasty Plot / Fake Tears / Acid Spray / Curse

This Pokémon checks 70-80% of physical attackers singlehandedly and even some special attackers. It’s got essentially 90 hp and 160 defense, and the aim of Weakness Policy over another item is to allow it to become a defensive wall while having offensive prowess. Max defense and HP while having 222 speed to outspeed Modest / Adamant base 60’s like Prim and Sylv, and those trying to outspeed it as well, like Raging Bolt.

Weakness Policy activates primarily against Iron Hands, Meowscarada, Dirge, Banded Pult, and Pecharunt.
Nasty Plot helps against generally everything, and Fake Tears is for Dirge / unaware Pokemon. Acid spray is similar but deals damage so it can be used to reliably beat Ninetales-Alola with its encore disable. Curse stops generally gimmicky strategies with more reliability than malignant, like Pressure stalling, Pain Split, etc. It also helps beat a lot of physical Dark Types, surprisingly.

:muk-alola: 252+ Atk Muk-Alola Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 216 HP / 252+ Def Pecharunt: 156-186 (42 - 50.1%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO.

This is all old news.
Weakness Policy particularly allows Pecharunt to beat Adamant Banded Meowsc: :

:meowscarada: :choice_band: 252+ Atk Choice Band Meowscarada Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 216 HP / 252+ Def Pecharunt: 236-282 (63.6 - 76%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
In return:
:pecharunt::weakness_policy: +2 0 SpA Pecharunt Malignant Chain vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Meowscarada: 516-608 (176.1 - 207.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

This is valuable because it makes the Meowscarada matchup much more reliable for Pecharunt. Otherwise, it becomes reliant on malignant RNG, which is a massive negative. Even “counterplay” with spamming Recover allows them to fish for crits, and still ends in the Meowsc’s favor.

Note it also simplifies the Metagross matchup:
:pecharunt: 0 SpA Pecharunt Shadow Ball vs. 240 HP / 48 SpD Metagross: 162-192 (44.8 - 53.1%) -- 24.6% chance to 2HKO
:metagross::choice_band: 252+ Atk Choice Band Metagross Psychic Fangs vs. 216 HP / 252+ Def Pecharunt: 242-288 (65.2 - 77.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Weakness Policy dies as well to a +3 Shadow Ball via Nasty Plot, and Assault Vest does not deal enough damage to defeat Recover & Shadow Ball.
Another reason to use Weakness Policy is that it still beats Donphan, much like Air Balloon Pech (but now you beat metagross and meowsc much more reliably, too!)

Here’s the calcs for Custap AND Band:
:pecharunt: +2 0 SpA Pecharunt Shadow Ball vs. -2 0 HP / 232 SpD Donphan: 340-402 (105.9 - 125.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO (This is achieved with Acid Spray turn1.)

:donphan: :choice_band: 252+ Atk Choice Band Donphan Earthquake vs. 216 HP / 252+ Def Pecharunt: 260-308 (70 - 83%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

:donphan: :custap_berry: 252+ Atk Donphan Earthquake vs. 216 HP / 252+ Def Pecharunt: 174-206 (46.9 - 55.5%) -- 73.8% chance to 2HKO
Custap meets the same fate, but you Recover after clicking Acid Spray to cover Endure and attacking.

Weakness Policy keeps Pecharunt from being reliant on Poison Puppeteer and Curse without disabling its defensive prowess, and that deserves recognition on the Set Compendium.

In return:
:pecharunt: +2 0 SpA Pecharunt Malignant Chain vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Meowscarada: 516-608 (176.1 - 207.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

:metagross::choice_band: 252+ Atk Choice Band Metagross Psychic Fangs vs. 216 HP / 252+ Def Pecharunt: 242-288 (65.2 - 77.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Weakness Policy keeps Pecharunt from being reliant on Poison Puppeteer and Curse without disabling its defensive prowess, and that deserves recognition on the Set Compendium.
weakness policy is genuinely terrible because it literally beats nothing more than what normal balloon/anything else does. For example:

:iron hands: Parting Shot just wins, if it's SD you lose. If you want to beat it consistently run like, subtox
:meowscarada: You forgot about Protean which removes it's Grass typing, making pecha not even OHKO at +2. Max Defense Recover usually wins anyways. (also forcing this matchup is super weird since u lose to subseed/specs/trick)
:metagross: Meta can just trick scarf/band, gain your weakness policy and OHKO. Not to mention the AV matchup in which you lose 90% of the time. If you want a good answer to meta run foul play
:donphan: Again, Air Balloon, subtox or just bulky parting shot wins

This isn't to discourage you from experimenting in a meta where nothing new is being made, just reminded me of the Murman propaganda when bringing scarf and band pecharunt to a teamtour finals
