Pet Mod Super Smash OMs [Slate 5]

Review / Vetoes!

:sv/avalugg:
Pokémon: Avalugg
OM of Origin: Inverse
Stats: 95 / 117 / 184 / 44 / 46 / 28 (514 BST)
Type:
Ice

Abilities: Own Tempo / Ice Body / Sturdy
Additional moves: None
Sample Set:
Avalugg @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Sturdy
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Recover
- Rapid Spin
- Body Press
- Avalanche

I feel like this meta could use a couple of Ice types, and I know that Inverse isn't on the list of allowed metagames so I'm half-expecting this to get vetoed, but if not, here is the case for Inverse Avalugg being a fun and interesting addition to the meta. Avalugg is a 'Top' mon on the Inverse viability list since the four weaknesses and one resistance of its ice typing are flipped, so its only weakness is Ice. In this meta, it would notably serve as a check to Tauros-Paldea-Blaze by now resisting both of its STAB moves and having an inversely super-effective Avalanche. It also surprisingly keeps a couple of matchups that a non-inverse ice would win due to its access to body press, such as Hawlucha and Trev. It's another hazard removal mon, which (if you ignore how Clodsire, Numel, Azelf, and Donphan are like the only setters in the meta) is always nice to have available in the builder. Additionally, it's still an Avalugg, so you are stuck with a base 44 SpD stat and get blown over by a gust of wind.

:sv/Lycanroc-dusk:
Pokémon: Lycanroc-Dusk
OM of Origin: Inheritance (Kleavor)
Stats: 75 / 117 / 65 / 55 / 65 / 110 (487 BST)
Type:
Rock

Abilities: Swarm / Sheer Force / Sharpness
Movepool: Kleavor's Movepool
Sample Set:
Lycanroc-Dusk @ Choice Scarf / Band
Ability: Sharpness
Tera Type: Rock
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Axe
- U-turn
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge / Night Slash

For my last sub, I wanted to submit a rock-type that worked as a simple choice user since there weren't any obvious ones already, and after trying for way too long to make a fusion of Kleavor that didn't have 150+ sharpness-boosted attack, I ended up with this. Kleavor's Stone Axe + U-turn offers Lycan-dusk some good utility for a choiced mon. A speed of 110 outspeeds +2 Numel in this meta, but leaves it outsped by mons like Cramorant somehow, Redbull, Azelf, and Hawlucha. Night Slash allows a 2HKO on Cress w/ choice band.
:avalugg: Vetoed. No if and buts about it. Inverse is not in the list of allowed metagames, so this Avalugg breaks the rules.
:Lycanroc-Dusk: I don't think in the current metagame, LycanKleav is good. I think giving it a better inheritor in this metagame would serve you well. Most of the walls at this point can challemge it well, too well tbh. Something like Terrak or its paradox form imo is a better fit as a wallbreaker without feeling broken (Stone Axe isn't too crazy after all).

:sv/Rotom-Frost:
Pokémon: Rotom-Frost
OM of Origin: STABmons
Stats: 50/65/107/105/107/86
Type: Electric/Ice
Abilities: Levitate
Aditional moves: All Electric and Ice-type moves
Sample Set:
Rotom-Frost @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Freeze-Dry
- Parabolic Charge
- Volt Switch

This meta needs an Ice-type. When looking at Ice-types that have gotten the short end of the stick, none stick out more than Rotom-Frost. Only having access to Blizzard as an Ice STAB move resulted in it being at the bottom of the barrel. Now with access to Ice Beam, Freeze Dry, and Parabolic Charge, this strong STAB Bolt-Beamer should do solid things.
Honestly, personal opinion ofc, but based on what we got I am not particularly sold on the viability of Rotom-Frost ngl. It seems just a slight bit underwhelming I don't know. Ofc nothing veto worthy though.

Honestly great job only having 1 veto, and off of a rules issue at that (as opposed to balance, my main concern). With that being said, I am giving you guys 36 hours to make any necessary changes. Ofc if you have any desires to add new subs you still have the option to do so, just know the grace period has passed.

Ok, we should be good to go. Voting shall commence!

Vote for your 6 favorite submissions, order does not matter. You have up to 2 self votes allowed. Voting is open for 48 hours, the top 5 highest votes (and any ties) will be added to the Hall of Fame. Have fun and good luck!

:sv/Magmar: :Corviknight:
Pokémon: Magmar (Corviknight)
OM of Origin: Cross Evolution
Stats: 95/115/107/110/115/83
Type: Fire/Steel
Abilities:
Pressure / Unnerve / Mirror Armor
Aditional moves: All moves from Corviknight's moveset
Sample Sets:
Corviknight (Magmar) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Iron Head / Knock Off
- Roost
- U-turn

Corviknight (Magmar) @ Air Balloon
Ability: Mirror Armor
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Flash Cannon
- Flamethrower / Lava Plume / Fire Blast
- Air Slash / Roost

Corviknight (Magmar) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Timid Nature
- Lava Plume
- Scorching Sands
- Roost
- Clear Smog / U-Turn

Corviknight (Magmar) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Will-O-Wisp
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
- Roost

Currently this OM only has two Fire types (350 Numel and Tier Shift Tauros) and one Steel type (Bonus Type Zapdos). So I thought it would be worth trying to correct that. Fire/Steel is a typing usually unique to Heatran, so its presence here should provide some good utility. Defensive sets would have access to moves like Will-O-Wisp and Clear Smog, and offensive sets would benefit from Corviknight's access to Nasty Plot. No matter which way you use it, it should prove effective against a good amount of the tier, though it would need to be weary of the strong Fighting- and Ground- types that are present. Due to the way its stats are balanced it should have a number of diverse sets available to it, as seen above.

:sv/Mamoswine: :avalugg-hisui:
Pokémon: Mamoswine (Avalugg-Hisui)
OM of Origin: Inheritance
Stats: 110/130/80/70/60/80
Type: Ice/Ground
Abilities: Strong Jaw / Ice Body / Sturdy
Aditional moves: All moves from Avalugg-Hisui (in place of its own)
Sample Set:
Mamoswine @ Leftovers / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock / Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Mountain Gale / Ice Spinner
- Recover

Mamoswine @ Choice Band / Choice Scarf
Ability: Strong Jaw
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Iron Head / Stone Edge

Taking a look again at adding Ice types, Mamoswine is one of the best. Getting access to strong STAB in Mountain Gale, as well as utility in Recover and Rapid Spin, this Mammoth should prove to be a solid offensive threat.
:sm/porygon2:
Pokemon: P2
OM of origin: Stabmons
Stats: 85 / 80 / 90 / 105 / 95 / 60
Type: Normal
Abilites: Trace / Download / Analytic
Additional moves: Normal Moves
Sample set:
Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
IVs: 0 Atk
Calm Nature
- Boomburst
- Shadow Ball
- Court Change / Glare / Heal Bell
- Recover
Justification: Gives us 1. hazard removal 2. a bulky normal who can be a great status absorbed into hex pult while also taking on quite a bit of stuff 3. cleric with heal bell

:sm/tyranitar:
Pokemon: Tyranitar
OM of origin: Revelationmons
Stats: Same
Type: Rock / Dark
Abilites: Sand Stream / Unnerve
Additional moves: None
Sample set:
Choice Band (Tyranitar) @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Body Slam (Rock)
- Double-Edge (Dark)
- Knock Off
- Earthquake

Special Defense (Tyranitar) @ Leftovers / Chople Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Body Slam
- Thunder Wave
- Knock Off
- Stealth Rock
Justification: I chose D egde for the strong dark stab on offensive sets while rock body slam allows it to be a huge threat with defensive sets and allows it to have body slam + knock off for the defensive sets. Double edge means that while knock off is used you can use d-edge to tag on huge damage on foes
:ss/greninja:
Pokémon: Greninja
OM of Origin: Convergence
Stats: 72 / 95 / 63 / 105 / 71 / 122
Type:
Steel.png

Abilities:
Abilities of Greninja, Crawdaunt and Samurott-Hisui
Aditional moves: Movepool of Greninja, Crawdaunt and Samurott-Hisui
Sample Set:
Greninja @ Life Orb
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Water
Hasty Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Dark Pulse
- Water Shuriken
- Sucker Punch

Greninja might be slow, but it's access to multiple forms of priority backed by Adaptability STAB makes it a strong wallbreaker that can potentially take down Azelf and Tauros-Paldea-Blaze while breaking stuff slower. This also finally ensures a good offensive Cress check is present.

:sv/Registeel:
Pokémon: Registeel
OM of Origin: Sketchmons
Stats: 80 / 75 / 150 / 75 / 150 / 50 (580 BST)
Type:
Steel

Abilities: Clear Body / Light Metal
Additional moves: Shore Up (or any Sketched move)
Sample Set:
Registeel @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Shore Up (sketched)
- Iron Defense / Thunder Wave
- Body Press / Heavy Slam
- Stealth Rock

Having another steel type and a rocker would be good for this meta, as the only steel currently is Zapdos, and there also isn't a Sketchmons rep yet. Giving Registeel a recovery move allows it to stick around longer and continue to set hazards up if Donphan or Cram defog a couple of times. Registeel is admittedly pretty awful into the current meta, with most mons having a way to wall IronPress by being ghost/flying or are super-effective into Regi, but steel-type rocker is still a notable niche missing in the meta, and Registeel can do so without crossing over another mon's niche (like heatran would for numel, a little).

Slate 5: Advance Legionnaires!

We are halfway through the mod, with quite a few varying Pokémon that strengthen a variety of playstyles. I want to spend the latter half of the mod refining the existing styles. So we will be heavily promoting set up sweepers, possibly the only role with little representation. Hyper Offense is the name of the game here, set up sweepers and Pokémon that fit on these structures are the main desire.

:sm/ogerpon-cornerstone:
Pokemon: Ogerpon-Cornerstone
OM of origin: Stabmons https://www.smogon.com/dex/sv/pokemon/ogerpon-cornerstone/stabmons/
Stats: 80 / 120 / 84 / 60 / 96 / 110
Type: grass / rock
Abilites: Sturdy
Additional moves: Grass, Rock, Fire, Water moves
Sample set:
Ogerpon-Cornerstone (F) @ Cornerstone Mask
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Grav Apple / Power Whip
- Diamond Storm / Ivy Cudgel
- Spikes / Stone Axe / Accelerock
- Strength Sap / Pyro Ball / Knock Off

Ogerpon-Cornerstone (F) @ Cornerstone Mask
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Power Whip / Horn Leech
- Diamond Storm / Ivy Cudgel
- Pyro Ball / Aqua Step / Accelerock
- Swords Dance

Ogerpon-Cornerstone (F) @ Cornerstone Mask
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Power Whip
- Stone Axe
- Pyro Ball
- Spikes / Swords Dance
Justification: Ogerpon-C is a great offensive mon with HO uses as a lead and as a sweeper here. With stone axe + sturdy it can setup rocks + spikes potentially against an opposing team. It also has SD + Stuff like accelerock or aqua step to beat out faster mons while an AoA set can be used on more balance teams to deal with stuff like moltres-g, donphan, cramorant, clodsire, etc

:sm/raging bolt:
Pokemon: Raging Bolt
OM of origin: Bonus Type
Stats: Same
Type: Dragon / Electric / Fairy
Abilites: Protosynthesis
Additional moves: none
Sample set:
Raging Bolt @ Booster Energy
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 20 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Thunderclap
- Dragon Pulse / Draco Meteor
- Thunderbolt / Taunt
Justification: raging bolt gives us quite a good tauros-blaze check and is a good HO mon as well, with such tools it can provide the tier with solid priority and ability to revenge kill stuff. I believe it isnt very broken cuz it has to deal with clodsire, valiant, donphan, numel, trev, cresselia, etc.

:sm/ninetales-alola:
Pokemon: Ninetales-A
OM of origin: M&M
Stats: 73 / 107 (+40) / 95 (+20) / 121 (+40) / 100 / 109
Type: Ice / Fairy
Abilites: Pixilate
Additional moves: None
Sample set:
Ninetales-Alola @ Altarianite
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Freeze-Dry
- Moonblast
- Encore / Ice Beam / Hyper Beam
Justification: There are not many steel types in the tier and it takes advantage of that with its much higher sp. atk to use NP to take advantage of the opponents. While it is checked by magmar fairly well alongside registeel i feel its an addition that suits the tier. I Also chose altarianite > gardevoirite cuz speed creep is gonna be a thing and we dont need 30 things in the 120's

:sm/slither wing:
Pokemon: Slither WIng
OM of origin: AAA
Stats: Same
Type: Same
Abilites: Any from AAA
Additional moves: None
Sample set:
Slither Wing @ Choice Band
Ability: Tinted Lens / Sword of Ruin / Scrappy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- U-turn
- First Impression
- Flare Blitz / Earthquake

Justification: Slither wing is able to be a great revenge killer and with sets like CB + First impression is agreat stop against setup sweepers. I think this mon has a lot of potential in the meta especially with many checks like pult, bellibolt, donphan, tauros, etc and mons it checks itself like azelf, cresselia, tyranitar, registeel, p2

Abilities: Overcoat / Filter (Mega Aerilate)
Additional moves: N/A
Sample Set:
Revavroom @ Pinsirite
Ability: Filter
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shift Gear
- Iron Head
- Body Slam
- High Horsepower/Temper Flare
:revavroom: [...] Unlike RMoon, I do think this Pokémon is easier to check in a vacuum, so I would like for you to wait like 2 more slates, than bring this back to see if it can fit in. And just to note (this technically goes for R-Moon too), this being subbed again wouldn't voint as a resub since it never went to vote in the first place.
Well okay then Luke. It has been three slates now, and we have seen some new checks for Steel types added to the tier. Zapdos and Bellibolt in particular will prove to be effective checks to this, but our Fire types in Tauros and Magmar, and even neutral attackers like Skunktank or Walking Wake make act as sufficient answers to it. If you want something that is Hyper Offense, this Shift Gear attacker is a good place to start.

:sv/Iron Thorns: :orthworm:
Pokémon: Iron Thorns (Orthworm) [resub]
OM of Origin: Frantic Fusions
Stats: 100/155/146/85/97/88
Type: Rock/Electric
Abilities: Quark Drive / Earth Eater / Sand Veil
Additional moves: N/A
Sample Set:
Iron Thorns @ Leftovers
Ability: Earth Eater
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Supercell Slam
- Stone Edge

See my justification from last time. Rock/Electric is a hard hitting offensive type, but struggles defensively thanks to its 4x weakness to Ground. Thanks to its increased stats and Earth Eater from Orthworm, Iron Thorns becomes much better at being a Dragon Dance sweeper.

:sv/cutiefly: :froslass:
Pokémon: Cutiefly (Froslass)
OM of Origin: Cross Evolution
Stats: 60/75/60/85/60/144

Additional moves: All moves from Froslass' movepool
Sample Set:
Froslass (Cutiefly) @ Focus Sash / Heavy Duty Boots
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Sticky Web
- Taunt / Will-O-Wisp / Thunder Wave
- Moonblast / Bug Buzz / Shadow Ball / Ice Beam / Hex
- U-turn / Spikes / Destiny Bond

The Cross Evolution premier Webs setter before Gholdengo was re-introduced to the tier. Bug/Ghost is a unique typing that means that Rapid Spinners will not be able to clear the webs you set up. An excellent lead to get your webs up safely, and cripple whatever comes in next. Its other stats are not impressive, but that 144 Speed will get the jump on most opponents.

:sv/Thundurus-Therian:
Pokémon: Thundurus-Therian
OM of Origin: Alphabet Cup

Additional moves: All T moves
Tachyon Cutter, Tackle, Tail Slap, Tail Whip, Tailwind, Take Hear, Tar Shot, Tearful Look, Teatime, Teleport, Temper Flare, Tera Starstorm, Terrain Pulse, Throat Chop, Thunder Cage, Thunderclap, Thunder Fang, Thunderous Kick, Tickle, Tidy Up, Topsy-Turvy, Torch Song, Torment, Toxic, Toxic Spikes, Trailblaze, Transform, Tri Attack, Trick, Trick Room, Triple Axel, Triple Dive, Triple Kick, Trop Kick, Twin Beam
(I may be missing a couple moves that I thought were dexited)
Sample Set:
Thundurus-Therian @ Throat Spray / Life Orb / Focus Sash / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderclap
- Torch Song
- Wildbolt Storm
- U-Turn / Volt Switch / [coverage move of choice]

Thundurus-T is one of the biggest winners of ABC, getting access to Torch Song and STAB Thunderclap. As a result it can safely set up while doing damage, and threaten faster threats with its priority move.

Also for those of you interested, here are the type counts of our current winners, in case you want to add a type that isn't very present, and/or make sure your offensive Pokemon answers common types in the tier.
5 - Ground, Dark
4 - Water, Flying
3 - Fire, Fighting, Psychic, Steel
2 - Normal, Grass, Electric, Poison, Ghost, Dragon
1 - Ice, Rock, Fairy
0 - Bug

Edit: Guess I don't need Formemons Altaria-Mega on here if anaconja is gonna sub it instead lol

Ogerpon offers alot of benefits as an offensive Pokémon and as facilitator of offensive builds. One of Ogerpon's best options is Grassy Surge, which in partnership with GGlide makes for a potent sweeper in it's own right, it also even more importantly provides Hawlucha with access to easy means to trigger Unburden, which it currently lacks, making it one of Haw's best potential partners. Even outside of that, Oger has options like PH or Protean to make it a great pivot or wallbreaker respectively.

Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 HP / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Play Rough
- Aqua Jet

Azumarill is interesting. With it's combined abilities, it doesn't necessarilybget offensively better off, but Azumarill obtains unprecedented amount of defensive utility for an offensive mon of its stature. Thick Fat doubling its Fire and Ice weakness (and also netrualizing Freeze Dry) while Sap Sipper flips a weakness to an immunity gives Zuzu insane switch in and set up opportunities, which it can then leverage into a sweep. It checks alot of Pokémon in the tier, but it has quite a few checks / counters as well.

Garchomp is the jack of all trades master of none extraordinaire. Now what happens if you give said Pokémon access to 1 of any move? Well Chomp basically does anything a team requires - from sketching reecovery to make it a real wall, to getting powerful STAB or coverage options to better wallbreak / sweep. The two main sets to highlight here are the hazard control lead and SD set, both of which can cause real trouble for opposing teams and are great for offensive teams.

Polteageist is a dedicated HO sweeper that can patch up some of its weaknesses with different abilities. It struggles into Pokemon like Clodsire and Skuntank, but it's deadly if teammates can weaken those. It also needs Pixilate to hit Galarian Moltres for meaningful damage, leaving it open to priority.
