I don't think you need to worry about spoiling MGS, its been out for nearly 10 years, if you cared about it you would've played it already. Its like me spoiling Super Mario Bros, everyone pretty much knows that the princess is in another castle.

But yeah Solid Snake was fighting Liquid (who was in REX) and Gray Fox appeared to help Solid, Solid had a chance to beat REX and Liquid but he had to shoot Gray Fox (who was a close friend back in the day). Snake didn't take the shot and Liquid steps on Gray Fox and wipes him on the ground. Pretty nasty.
 
How is it official? I don't think this proves anything about Ness being in or out.

He says in the first sentence, "There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now, and Lucas is very similar."

See the up until now part? That's what says Ness is out.

Well, didn't Sakurai say no more clone characters..?

This seems pretty much a semi-clone of Ness. Could point to him going out. Still thinks his recovery sucks.. =(

Also, downsmash without covering both sides might not be so good.


edit: wow, late nights suck. Yeah, I see it now. End of Ness, eh..

I don't think hes out. "Up until now" could mean anything. He could be saying that because he hasn't revealed Ness yet, but wants to mention that he is similar. He could be saying that Ness is out. He could be saying....etc. Because why would he even mention that Lucas' physical movepool is different from Ness'. Hell, Ness could have a total revamp. He hasn't shown physical moves for any other character with their B moves.

While I agree this does no bode well for Ness, this is by no means official until we know Ness is not in the game. For all we know it could be a mistranslation, or he worded it incorrectly. So until he says "Ness is no longer playable" or when we get the game and find Ness is not in it, I will not throw Ness into the dumpster. There are any number of explanations for what he had said, Ness is out is just what everyone first thinks of.

Though it is pretty sad Ness goes from the best (Smash), to bad (Melee), to gone (Brawl) if he really is out.

Everyone Steelicks, everyone. And apparently zerowing, who I think is in serious denial... though you are entitled to your own opinion, zero. I don't really have much of an argument against him being in besides.... it being on the site, and that Sakurai said there would be no clones (to which you already have counter-arguements). Yeah, I know there are mistranslations, but I doubt that big of a mistake would be made... and if we really needed proof of no mistranslation, we could just have someone who reads japanese to read from the japanese version of the site... anyone?

With how similar both Ness and Lucas are in their respective games, I suspected which ever one to be revealed first would be the representative of the MOTHER series, Honestly to me a Ness and Lucas inclusion would be redundant.

Perhaps Sakurai wanted to give reason behind a characters who shares very similar moves with Ness. Honestly though this update confirmed for me that Ness will not be playable.

Though in your eyes I take it Petey could still be a playable character? The evidence is stacked highly against Ness (confirmed in my eyes) that he is no longer playable.
 
Yes, but who's to say that Mother won't get 2 representatives? Most other of the Nintendo Characters on Brawl got at least 2 (In previous installments or this one) (Yes I am counting Zero Suit as another representative). But I do feel that Ness won't be apart of this Game as a playable character... But then, there's always an Assist Trophy.

Also I'm I the only one who's starting to believe that they're going to make a playable Animal Crossing Character? Otherwise, Who's stage will Smashville be?
 
if mother got more than one representative, it would be a character with new moves and a new look... not two kids, one with blonde hair and one with a hat

i, personally, would like to see Claus as a character
 
Peach's blood red dress looks absolutely amazing.

the all elusive Fazilla is coming to my birthday tomorrow ^_^ Such matters about peach will be highly discussed I'm sure.

I'm hoping the MOTHER franchise does get another character, but Ness? He brings nothing new to the table with the addition Lucas. I'd rather see someone who's different and represents the more unique aspects of the MOTHER series.

Besides, Lucas's inclusion could perhaps bring the rest of the MOTHER series out of Japan (I've heard some ideas of perhaps bundling all 3 MOTHER games on a DS cart).
 
Lucas looks much more promising than Ness. Too bad I don't know much about him.. maybe Nintendo can do a release of Mother on VC or something? :)

PK Freeze looks cool, and the new PK Fire looks really promising. Physical moves look interesting! I wanna try Lucas out.. =]

well i would say that even with all the stuff today that ness still has a shot but

the fact that the melee team tried to replace ness with lucas already just makes it seem more believable and as if they are doing what they already attempted to do before

although i'd say that at this point ness looks better...if only for that yucky mewtwo-esque dsmash

oh come on, who was supposed to expect a character from the very first game in the series to just be removed? Even if Lucario is in the game, Jigglypuff will still be expected to stay by most if you ask me.
 
FUCK FUCK FUCK.

Ness was my homeboy and got snuffed. Like someone said he went from being nasty in ssb64 to low tier in melee to gone in brawl. Its so sad now i'm not sure who I'm going to main.

I don't like that pk fire shoots straight now. I'm sure when on the ground it is better but DJC to pk fire shooting down at a 45 degree angle was always cool and caught people off guard. PK flash is gone and that move was edge guard kill but pk freeze will be fun. Plus Lucas won't rock the homerun bat will he?
 
PK Flash.. oh right, I loved that one. Hm, maybe that could be Lucas' final smash? Revamped and rebuffed PK Flash.. that would be awesome.

PK Fire's revamp is really helpful imo, because it looks like it'll damage more and it'll faze the opponent longer than Ness'.

It would be interesting to see Ness in Brawl again, but I don't think he stands a chance. I don't know much on the Earthbound series, but are there any more Mother characters that could pot. be in Brawl? Because if not, Ness should be there.
