Dpp Suicune

[OVERVIEW]

Suicune has established itself as a DPP staple due to its prowess as a bulky sweeper. Its Water typing, awesome defensive stats, decent Speed tier, and access to Calm Mind allow it to be an enormous offensive threat while checking Heatran, Infernape, Swampert, Gyarados, Kingdra, Bronzong, and Metagross—threats that Suicune teams typically struggle to handle. It can also take advantage of defensive teams’ lack of strong counterplay to Water-types; +1 offensive Suicune almost 2HKOes Clefable and Jirachi with Hydro Pump and 2HKOes everything else commonly used on these teams, opening up the way for other Water-types. In addition, it also is one of the more difficult threats for hyper and bulky offenses to beat. Suicune also has the bulk to act as an emergency answer to setup sweepers such as Gyarados and Dragonite.

Suicune is also a good sweeper on defensive teams, with its Pressure ability and high defenses allowing it to use Calm Mind multiple times and eventually sweep through defensive teams that can’t punish it while asleep or behind a 101 HP Substitute. Suicune is one of the better Substitute users in the game; it loves blocking status, Knock Off, Trick, and Explosion and can also drain PP effectively with Pressure, especially against Seismic Toss. In a last Pokemon situation, Suicune has strong comeback potential, as it can no longer be phazed. Additionally, while Suicune has quite a limited movepool, it can effectively use options such as Protect to further drain PP with Pressure, Toxic to punish walls such as Milotic, and even Roar to win Calm Mind wars against Latias, Jirachi, and other Suicune.

However, Suicune is vulnerable to all entry hazards—sets without Rest struggle mightily against Toxic Spikes, and even with Rest, Suicune can get chipped easily if it is forced in by phazing repeatedly with Stealth Rock and Spikes set. Suicune also has little protection against Trick, struggles against status, and is threatened by powerful Electric- and Grass-type attacks from the likes of Zapdos, Rotom-A, Celebi, and Roserade. Suicune’s offensive Calm Mind sets often get chipped quite easily, whereas the defensive sets can struggle with coverage issues against Pokemon like Breloom, Latias, Dragonite, and Milotic. Suicune’s Substitute sets also are crippled by sand, as they can no longer repeatedly use Substitute against the likes of Clefable, Blissey, and defensive Jirachi without Leftovers recovery. Finally, Suicune can be easily crippled by special walls such as Clefable using Knock Off or Encore and Blissey using Thunder Wave.

Moves
========

Offensive Calm Mind Suicune is one of the most dangerous Calm Mind users in the metagame, taking advantage of its bulk to set up on Pokemon such as Heatran and Gliscor.

Hydro Pump is threatening even with no boosts, OHKOing bulkless Heatran after Stealth Rock. It additionally OHKOes Lucario with a Special Defense drop, 2HKOes most Metagross, and 2HKOes most Tyranitar without a Passho Berry. Ice Beam gives Suicune coverage against many Grass- and Dragon-types that threaten it, including Breloom, Latias, Roserade, and Dragonite, while also giving a super effective option against Zapdos. Finally, Hidden Power Electric threatens other Water-types, notably OHKOing bulkless Gyarados 75% of the time after Stealth Rock, combating opposing Suicune and eventually beating Haze Milotic through PP stalling. After using Calm Mind, Suicune becomes even more threatening and able to seriously damage most of its answers. Frail offensive checks such as bulkless Rotom-A and most Breloom can no longer take Hydro Pump and Ice Beam. Common answers to Water-types such as Kingdra and Empoleon can be 2HKOed by Ice Beam and Hidden Power Electric. Additionally, do not underestimate Suicune’s ability to tank hits at +1—only Modest Choice Specs Zapdos can guarantee an OHKO on +1 Suicune after Stealth Rock. This allows Suicune to, in an emergency, take a strong hit, such as Roserade’s Leaf Storm, Celebi’s Leaf Storm, or Choice Specs Latias’s Draco Meteor, and come out on top. Another option over Hidden Power Electric is Protect, as a common answer to Suicune is an Explosion from Passho Berry Heatran, Bronzong, or Metagross. In addition, Protect drains foes' PP, gives additional Leftovers recovery, and scouts moves such as Trick and Encore. However, missing coverage on Water-types like Gyarados, Milotic, Empoleon, and Starmie is a big loss.

Set Details
========

Suicune should be running a Timid nature most of the time. Suicune sits at a very valuable Speed tier, and typically needs to invest fully or nearly fully in Speed to outspeed Heatran, Adamant Lucario, and Mamoswine. Additionally, Timid Suicune’s Speed outpaces defensive variants of Jirachi, Celebi, Roserade, Zapdos and Latias. However, as a lesser option, Modest allows Suicune some notable power benchmarks, such as a chance to 2HKO Clefable and specially defensive Jirachi after Stealth Rock at +1. Suicune can also sacrifice Speed and Special Attack to run more bulk, as, without Stealth Rock, it is normally very close to getting OHKOed by +1 Dragonite's Outrage and 2HKOed by +1 Gyarados. An example spread is 48 HP / 52 Def / 180 SpA / 228 Spe with a Modest nature, which maximizes Leftovers recovery, survives +1 non Life Orb Dragonite after Stealth Rock and one round of Leftovers, and outspeeds Jolly Breloom, Adamant Gyarados, and Adamant Dragonite.

Usage Tips
========

While offensive Calm Mind Suicune can sweep, it typically plays as an offensive team’s primary switch-in to Heatran, answers Gyarados and Dragonite in emergencies, trades with threats such as Metagross, Swampert, and Infernape, and sets up early-game before sand is up to weaken answers to Water-types such as Latias and Roserade. Suicune should be ready to use Calm Mind immediately if the opposing Pokemon can’t threaten it effectively, as even its checks can struggle against it if boosted. Suicune really appreciates teammates weakening or eliminating Water switch-ins, offensive Electric-types, and special walls such as Roserade, Shaymin, Zapdos, and Clefable. Suicune also enjoys a field clear of sand to use its natural bulk and power at +1 to push past its checks. Try to avoid getting Suicune statused, as it becomes much worse against Breloom and defensive Roserade if paralyzed, for example. Trick from Rotom-A or Latias can cripple Suicune; however, if Hydro Pump answers are gone, Suicune can sweep at +1 despite being Choice locked. If Suicune has Protect, aggressively predicting Explosion, such as right after switches it in on non-Leftovers Heatran, can often pay dividends against opponents desperate to remove it.

Team Options
========

Suicune really shines on bulky offensive Fire / Water / Grass cores, where it complements Pokemon like Heatran and Roserade. Heatran can set up Stealth Rock and generally threatens the Grass-types that scare out Suicune, such as Roserade and Celebi. Bulkier Heatran sets also assist against defensive Jirachi, which can tank boosted Suicune hits and paralyze it with Body Slam. Roserade especially assists Suicune by removing Toxic Spikes, a giant thorn in its side. Roserade can also set up Spikes and Toxic Spikes, which helps wear down Celebi, Milotic, Blissey, and even Vaporeon. Suicune also appreciate a strong offensive Water-type alongside it, such as Empoleon, Kingdra, Choice Specs Starmie, or Swampert, so both can synergistically weaken Water-type checks. Teammates like Gengar and the aforementioned Heatran can cripple or remove defensive checks such as Clefable, Blissey, and Latias with Explosion, while Heatran can further lure Water-types such as Starmie and Milotic with a Passho Berry + Explosion set. Trick users like Choice Scarf Rotom-A and Choice item Latias are another way to hinder special walls. Breloom is a great Suicune partner, as it absorbs status and Knock Off once its Toxic Orb has activated and counters special walls. Suicune appreciates a Ground-type or Tyranitar—but remember that sand weakens it—to absorb strong Electric-type attacks from the likes of Zapdos and Rotom-A. Effective Ground-types include Swampert, Nidoqueen to set up and absorb Toxic Spikes, Gliscor, and Choice Scarf Flygon. Suicune also appreciates Magnezone support, as bulky Steel-types such as Jirachi, Metagross, Bronzong, and Skarmory can cripple Suicune with status, tank a hit and use Explosion on it or phaze it.

Offensive Suicune can fit on a variety of other archetypes too. Hyper offense teams, such as those built around dual screens provided by Uxie, Azelf, or Cresselia, enjoy its strong power at +1 as well as its ability to plug many defensive holes these teams typically have. Other Pokemon that can fit on these aggressive teams are Dragon Dance Tyranitar to help break through shared checks like Milotic, Dragon Dance Gyarados to form a strong Water-type offensive core, Life Orb Swords Dance Scizor to eliminate Skarmory, and Dragon Dance Dragonite. Suicune can also fit on rain teams alongside other Water-types such as Empoleon, and generally it works well on offensive teams that want some added security against Dragon Dance users and Heatran.

Moves
========

CroCune is a strong late-game sweeper for defensive teams that also serves as a great switch-in to common threats to those teams such as Heatran, physical Jirachi, Metagross, and Swampert.

A defensive Calm Mind set allows Suicune to set up many boosts in the face of Pokemon that can’t really threaten it, such as Swampert, Heatran, physical Jirachi, Metagross, and most Tyranitar. Calm Mind also makes Suicune amazing in a last Pokemon situation, as it can set up without being phazed. Surf is the only viable attack, as this Suicune really needs the additional PP to handle Clefable, defensive Jirachi, Blissey, and Milotic. Despite lacking investment, Suicune’s Surf can still dent what it needs to, OHKOing Infernape after Stealth Rock, 2HKOing Heatran, and 3HKOing most Tyranitar. At +6, the only common threats Suicune can’t break through are defensive Celebi, Latias, and Milotic, though Breloom and Dragonite are especially difficult to handle if Suicune hasn't gotten enough boosts to KO them. RestTalk is Suicune's only form of recovery and status removal, but its status removal means Suicune isn't immediately crippled by Toxic Spikes, can set up on status inducing defensive answers such as Body Slam Jirachi, and isn't as affected by sand as other sets are.

Set Details
========

Suicune should always be running at least 401 HP for Seismic Toss from Clefable or Blissey in case sand is up or Suicune takes Knock Off from Clefable important if sand is up. A Bold nature helps it survive its sleeping turns and be a blanket check to physical threats such as Metagross, Swampert, Infernape, and Trick Room Bronzong. However, Suicune can run more Speed, such as 16 EVs to outspeed Machamp and minimum Speed Rotom-A and 64 EVs to outspeed Swampert and neutral nature Tyranitar. Additionally, it is possible to put all or some of the physical bulk into Special Attack and run a Modest nature. A spread of 252 HP / 240 SpA / 16 Spe lets Suicune significantly threaten defensive teams with a much stronger Surf against Scizor, Bronzong, Metagross, Clefable, and Jirachi. However, without a Bold nature, Suicune is more vulnerable to Explosion and takes more damage from physical Pokemon it is meant to help wall, especially if sand or entry hazards are set. This also makes it harder to get past bad Sleep Talk turns.

Usage Tips
========

This Suicune commonly plays as a more offensive version of Milotic, using its resistances and Pressure to shore defensive teams against strong threats, like Choice Band Gyarados, Swampert, Heatran, and Dynamic Punch Machamp. However, Suicune is very vulnerable while using Rest, so one should not be careless with its health—it should not be the only switch-in to these Pokemon. Suicune shouldn’t attempt a sweep while threats such as Breloom, Milotic, and Roar Latias are still active, as they will instantly stall any momentum it has. As Suicune is vulnerable to sand and really wants its Leftovers, it should avoid Clefable's and Gliscor’s Knock Off. If many entry hazards are set, Suicune will have trouble getting out of spamming Rest, so opposing Spikes stacking teams mandate picking the correct time to wall a threat or set up is. Take advantage of this Suicune’s ability to shrug off status against Pokemon like defensive Jirachi to get multiple boosts.

Team Options
========

Defensive Calm Mind Suicune is commonly used as a late-game sweeper on defensive teams and really appreciates teammates that can mitigate its flaws: reliance on one attack, relative passivity, and vulnerability to Trick and Explosion. Suicune needs solid answers to Breloom as well as Haze Milotic and defensive Celebi. Examples of these teammates include Gliscor, Zapdos, and Latias. RestTalk Suicune can even absorb Breloom’s Spore, allowing Gliscor and Zapdos to beat it more comfortably. Latias can also use Healing Wish on Suicune in dire situations. Good Pokemon to punish Milotic and Celebi, such as Skarmory, are also appreciated. Strong special walls like Clefable and Blissey can help with Suicune’s vulnerability to Rotom-A, Roserade, and Zapdos, while Choice Scarf Tyranitar can Pursuit trap any Rotom-A or Latias trying to use Trick. Since this Suicune is so passive before boosting, Choice Scarf Rotom-A and Choice Scarf Flygon can revenge kill Gyarados and Dragonite trying to set up on it. Rotom-A can also run more defensive sets such as RestTalk to absorb Explosion and handle some of Suicune's defensive responsibility. Suicune struggles with entry hazards and appreciates Rapid Spin support. Forretress is a common choice on defensive teams, especially as Starmie and Tentacruel don’t fit well alongside this Suicune, and it provides Spikes support to wear down Suicune answers. In the event spinning is difficult, Suicune also enjoys a grounded Poison-type teammate to absorb Toxic Spikes. Roserade and Nidoqueen are solid choices that can set their own Toxic Spikes. They help with threats such as Milotic and Water Absorb Pokemon such as Quagsire and Vaporeon. While this Suicune is not as weak to sand as other Suicune sets, removing sand with choices like Rain Dance Bronzong, Cresselia, Uxie, and Latias, or Sunny Day Breloom and even Flygon, is effective.

Calm Mind RestTalk Suicune also fits well with lures or trappers to remove its answers. For Skarmory, the gold standard is Magnezone, but other options like Trick Iron Ball Metagross and unexpected Fire- or Electric-type coverage on a Pokemon such as Tyranitar work well too. For Breloom, Dragon Dance Chople Berry Tyranitar fits well with its boosted Ice Punch. Additionally, options that absorb Breloom's Spore such as Choice Specs Sleep Talk Latias and Lum Berry Jirachi, as well as Lum Berry Metagross with Psychic-type coverage, are also effective. Other Tyranitar and Jirachi, such as those with Thunder Wave and Body Slam, respectively, also work well for helping check defensive Latias with Roar. Passho Berry Magma Storm Heatran can lure in Milotic and Clefable and offensively check Roserade, Celebi, and Rotom-A.

Moves
========

Substitute Suicune is strong setup sweeper that uses Pressure, Protect, and 101 HP Substitutes to quickly drain PP from moves like Seismic Toss and Thunderbolt. Notably, teams often use low PP moves to counter Suicune, such as Clefable’s Encore, Roserade’s Leaf Storm, and Latias’s Draco Meteor. Substitute also protects Suicune from common ways to neutralize it such as status, Trick, Knock Off, critical hits, and Explosion while scouting opposing moves.

In addition to making Suicune such a threat, Calm Mind makes its Substitute very difficult to break by special moves, such as Timid Heatran's Earth Power. RestTalk Rotom-A’s Thunderbolt cannot break +3 Suicune's Substitute, and non-Life Orb Gengar's Shadow Ball cannot break +1 Suicune. Surf is the standard due to its much greater PP, as Substitute and Protect allow Suicune to accrue many boosts. However, Hydro Pump can be used on more offensive variants, particularly those that forgo Protect for Ice Beam or invest more in Special Attack instead of Speed. Protect makes further use of Suicune’s Pressure, but Ice Beam is very nice to prevent Roar Latias and Breloom from defeating Suicune and more quickly damage Ice-weak threats in general like Zapdos, Dragonite, and Roserade.

Set Details
========

Suicune needs maximum HP for its 101 HP Substitute. Beyond this, there are many to EV this Suicune. The standard spread gives its Surf some power in case it can't set up very much. The remaining Speed lets Suicune outspeed all non Choice Scarf Tyranitar and also set up on defensive Body Slam Jirachi without getting paralyzed. Some additional Speed EVs can be used to outrun Jirachi built for a similar benchmark. 196 Speed and a Timid nature outpaces Adamant Lucario and can potentially prevent Thunder Wave from defensive Latias or Explosion from Heatran. Other Speed investments include 16 EVs to outspeed RestTalk Rotom and Machamp, 64 EVs to outspeed neutral Tyranitar, and 228 EVs to outspeed Jolly Breloom and Adamant Gyarados. The remainder can be put into Special Attack.

Usage Tips
========

Since this Suicune is much more of a dedicated sweeper than the other sets, it needs to be played carefully so that it doesn’t lose too much HP. How it plays depends on whether or not it has Protect. With Protect, try not to reveal Suicune until the opposing team is scouted for anything that could beat it. Suicune’s Protect + Substitute antics allow it to PP stall answers to it, but it absolutely must avoid status. With Ice Beam, preserving its health isn't quite as important, as typically it won't try to get higher than +1. For both variants, try to avoid setting up in sand or hail and eliminate Tyranitar, Hippowdon, and Abomasnow to make the most of Leftovers recovery. If Clefable directly switches into Suicune, try to use Protect to PP stall Encore.

Team Options
========
This Suicune set needs quite a bit of support. Above all else, this Suicune loves a grounded Poison-type that can absorb and set up Toxic Spikes. Nidoqueen and Roserade are conventional options that cover defensive holes, while Qwilfish can take advantage of its offensive presence to set up entry hazards or use Explosion on walls. Another valuable piece of support is changing the weather, as Suicune is much more effective with Leftovers actively healing it. This can be done on a dedicated rain team with Pokemon like Rain Dance Azelf, Uxie, Bronzong, Scizor, Latias, and Rotom-W, or with Sunny Day Flygon or Breloom. Suicune enjoys lures and trappers to remove solid answers such as Roar Latias, Whirlwind Skarmory, and Encore Clefable. Pokemon working well here include Trick Iron Ball Metagross for Skarmory, Rotom-A, and Zapdos, Magma Storm + Explosion Heatran for special walls, Gengar, Choice Specs Latias for Breloom, and Magnezone. Strong wallbreakers such as Choice Band Swampert, Life Orb Mixed Flygon, and Breloom work well too.

This Suicune generally needs to be close to full HP and have the opposing team scouted for answers before it can sweep. As such, it greatly appreciates Wish and Healing Wish support from the likes of Latias, Jirachi, and Clefable after getting forced out. Additionally, since this Suicune cannot play a defensive role, good switch-ins to Fire- and Water-type coverage such as Latias, Roserade, and Heatran are appreciated. A strong revenge killer such as Choice Scarf Flygon or Choice Scarf Rotom-A can handle Water-resistant sweepers like Gyarados and Dragonite. As mentioned above, Suicune is best alongside general rain sweepers such as Qwilfish and Kingdra, as these Pokemon force in Tyranitar, Hippowdon, and Abomasnow and hit them very hard. In addition, Qwilfish provides Toxic Spikes removal and Kingdra hammers shared soft answers to Water-types such as scoring a 2HKO on offensive Gyarados with Hydro Pump. Suicune also fits as a strong cleaner alongside Roserade and Heatran in a Fire / Water / Grass core to bait in and remove counters as well as take advantage of Roserade's entry hazards.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Suicune has a somewhat shallow movepool but is effective enough to make niche options viable. Roar on the offensive Calm Mind set lets it set up alongside Latias, Jirachi, and other Suicune and phaze them. This is particularly notable because Calm Mind + Roar Latias is typically slower than an invested Suicune. Suicune can also use Roar to make up for the lack of Hidden Power Electric against boosted Gyarados, which is unlikely to use Taunt out of fear of Hidden Power Electric. Toxic on the offensive Calm Mind set cripples Milotic and Swampert. Suicune has usable non-Calm Mind sets, such as running Roar over Calm Mind on the RestTalk set. However, these are extremely passive and struggle against anything that resists Water. Suicune can use other Hidden Power types, with Grass nailing Swampert and Quagsire while still hitting Water-types other than Gyarados, and Fire surprising Abomasnow. However, these are quite niche. Substitute Suicune can change the weather itself with Rain Dance over Protect or Ice Beam. However, this strategy still struggles against Encore Clefable while not giving additional help against Latias and Breloom. Suicune can use Tailwind, Reflect, or even Mirror Coat to beat specific matchups but all are niche at best.

Checks and Counters
===================

There are very few Pokemon that can check all of Suicune’s sets. Grass-types that are fantastic answers to CroCune mostly lose to +1 offensive Suicune’s Ice Beam. Strong special walls can easily lose to Substitute + Protect Suicune and CroCune. As such, Suicune is often checked with multiple Pokemon.

**Grass-types**: Abomasnow, Roserade, Celebi, Breloom, and Shaymin are great initial switch-ins into Suicune. Abomasnow is perhaps the best counter in the game, as it sets up hail and easily eliminates all Suicune sets with its Wood Hammer or annoys them with Leech Seed. However, all of the others need to be careful: bulkless Roserade is OHKOed by Ice Beam after Stealth Rock and its Leaf Storm can’t always OHKO back without a boosting item or Modest nature, Celebi needs a lot of Speed and a boosted Leaf Storm to KO back, Breloom cannot take boosted Ice Beam at all, and Shaymin needs to be careful of running out of Seed Flare PP.

**Sand Stream**: While Tyranitar and Hippowdon handily lose to Suicune, their summoned sand negating Leftovers recovery makes it much harder to sweep.

**Special Walls**: Clefable and Blissey are great initial switch-ins to Suicune. Clefable has Encore and Knock Off to cripple Suicune, and Blissey completely walls offensive Suicune. However, Clefable is almost 2HKOed by +1 Suicune and Blissey completely loses to CroCune and Substitute Suicune unless sand is up—both will eventually run out of Seismic Toss PP against CroCune and Substitute Suicune as long as Suicune still has its Leftovers recovery.

**Offensive Electric-types**: Zapdos, Rotom-A, Raikou, and even Jolteon can offensively check Suicune. Modest Choice Specs Zapdos notably OHKOes +1 offensive Suicune with Thunderbolt after Stealth Rock in sand. However, they all struggle to take boosted hits from offensive Suicune and can eventually run out of PP against the Substitute + Protect set.

**Dragon-types**: Even though Latias, Dragonite, and Kingdra generally lose against Suicune's boosted Ice Beam, they completely stop sets that rely solely on Surf. Latias also can paralyze offensive sets, remove less bulky sets with super effective coverage, or phaze, while Dragonite and Kingdra hit Suicune hard with their Dragon-type moves.

**Water-types**: Water-types such as Empoleon, Starmie, and Gyarados can check Suicune if it lacks Hidden Power Electric. Vaporeon and Quagsire are completely immune to Suicune's Water-type moves and can cripple it with Toxic, Encore, or Roar. Milotic has access to Haze, although Suicune can PP stall it due to Pressure.

**Status**: Suicune despises Toxic Spikes. In addition, poison and burn seriously cut into its longevity and force CroCune to use Rest earlier. Latias is a great way to force paralysis onto Suicune, as it typically outspeeds and has great defenses. If Suicune is paralyzed, Pokemon like Breloom, defensive Roserade, and Celebi become better checks, as they can use STAB moves without fearing boosted Ice Beam.

**Phazing with Entry Hazards**: As Suicune mostly doesn’t run Roar, forcing it to lose boosts via Roar, Whirlwind, or even Encore is a great way to wear it down. Making Suicune come in on Spikes and Stealth Rock while asleep and then forcing it out again is a common way for defensive teams to defeat it. Skarmory, Latias, Clefable with Encore, and defensive Zapdos phaze it well.

**Residual Damage**: A common way to neuter Suicune is to chip it and revenge kill it with a Choice Scarf Pokemon such as Tyranitar, whose Stone Edge does 43.4 - 51.3%, Latias, whose Draco Meteor does 35.1 - 41.6% to +1 Suicune, or Flygon, whose Jolly Outrage does 42.5 - 50.4%. Entry hazards often weaken Suicune to the point where it can be revenge killed.

**Trick**: Giving Suicune a Choice item via Rotom-A, Latias, or Jirachi especially cripples CroCune and Substitute sets. However, one must be careful of a boosted offensive Suicune sweeping a weakened team with +1 Hydro Pump regardless.

Here's a first feedback. There will be a few things to change, I might have missed some things but this is a pretty well written analysis as a whole, good job!

Dpp Suicune -- QC Team, please let me know if this is alright

[OVERVIEW]

Suicune has established itself as a staple in the DPP metagame due to its prowess as a bulky sweeper. Suicune’s Water typing, awesome defensive stats, and decent speed tier allow it to check threats such as Heatran, Infernape, Swampert, Adamant Lucario, and Metagross, among others – threats that are typically difficult to handle for the teams it is featured on. Suicune also has the bulk to act as an emergency answer to set up sweepers such as Gyarados and Dragonite – tanking a boosted hit and eliminating the threat. It can also take advantage of defensive teams’ lack of strong answers to Water types – an Offensive Suicune at +1 almost 2HKOs Clefable and Jirachi with Hydro Pump as well as 2HKOs everything else commonly used on these teams with its coverage moves.

Suicune also has a role as being a good win condition on defensive teams, with its Pressure ability and large defenses allowing it to set up multiple Calm Minds and eventually sweep through opposing defensive teams that can’t punish it while asleep or behind a 101 HP Substitute. In a last Pokemon situation, Suicune has a strong comeback potential, as it can no longer be phased. Additionally, while Suicune has quite a limited movepool, it can effectively use options such as Protect to further drain PP with Pressure, Toxic to punish walls such as Milotic, or even Roar to win Calm Mind wars against Latias, Jirachi, and other Suicunes.

Despite these overwhelmingly positive traits, Suicune has some issues holding it back. Suicune status as a grounded Water type means it is vulnerable to all entry hazards – sets without Rest struggle mightily against Toxic Spikes, and even with Rest, Suicune can get chipped easily if it is phased in repeatedly with Stealth Rock and Spikes down. Suicune also has little protection against Trick, struggles against Status, and is threatened by powerful Electric and Grass attacks from the likes of Zapdos, Rotom-A, and Roserade, among others. Suicune’s offensive Calm Mind sets often get chipped quite easily, whereas the defensive sets can struggle with coverage issues against Pokemon like Breloom, Latias, and Milotic. Suicune’s Substitutes sets also are crippled by Sand, as they can no longer effectively set up as many repeated Substitutes against the likes of Clefable, Blissey, or defensive Jirachi without Leftovers recovery. Finally, Suicune can be easily crippled by Special walls such as Clefable using Knock Off as well as Encore and Blissey using Thunder Wave.

Moves
========

Offensive Calm Mind Suicune is one of the most dangerous Calm Mind users in the metagame, taking advantage of its bulk to set up on Pokemon such as Heatran and Gliscor to threaten the rest of the opposing team.

Hydro Pump deals major damage even with no boosts, OHKOing Naïve Heatran without Stealth Rock and OHKOing Timid versions with it. It is generally a strong attack to throw out, OHKOing Lucario with a Special Defense drop, 2HKOing most Metagross, and 2HKOing most Tyranitars without a Passho Berry. Ice Beam gives Suicune coverage against many Grass and Dragon types that threaten it, doing major damage to Breloom, Latias, Roserade, and Dragonite while also giving a Super-Effective option against Zapdos. Finally, Hidden Power Electric gives Suicune the ability to threaten other Water types, notably OHKOing 0/0 Gyarados 75% of the time after Stealth Rock and giving Suicune the ability to beat Milotic (after stalling it out of Haze) and other Suicune one on one. However, after a Calm Mind, Suicune becomes significantly more threatening – at +1, Suicune can seriously damage most of its answers. Choiced Rotom-A can no longer take a Hydro Pump, with 0/0 being OHKOed after Stealth Rock, while only the bulkiest of Brelooms can take a boosted Ice Beam. Common answers to Water types, such as Kingdra and Empoleon can no longer stomach repeated Ice Beams and Hidden Power Electrics, respectively. Additionally, do not underestimate Suicune’s ability to tank hits at +1 – only a Modest Choice Specs Zapdos can guarantee OHKO a +1 Suicune after Stealth Rock. This allows Suicune to, in an emergency, take strong hits such as Roserade’s and Celebi’s Leaf Storm or Choice Specs Latias’ Draco Meteor and come out on top. At this point, a common answer to Suicune is to Explode on it with something like a Passho Berry Heatran, Bronzong, or Metagross, which is where Protect comes in – not only does Protect give additional Leftovers recovery and scout moves such as Trick, but it also allows Suicune to dodge Explosions.

- I don't think Naive Heatran is worth mentioning since it's not a thing, just mention bulk less offensive Heatrans
- I would briefly say that overall Hidden Power Electric is the prefered move on Offensive CM most of the time, and that Protect is more of a "niche" option. Mention why HP Elec should be used primarily as opposed to Protect here, missing out on Pokemon like Gyarados, Starmie, Empoleon and Milotic can end up being gamebreaking

Set Details
========

Suicune should be running a Timid nature most of the time. Suicune sits at a very valuable Speed tier, and as such, needs to run max or almost max speed to outspeed Heatran, Adamant Lucario, Mamoswine, Jolly Gyarados, among others. However, Modest allows Suicune some notable power benchmarks, such as a good chance to 2HKO Clefable and Specially Defensive Jirachi after Stealth Rock at +1. Suicune can also sacrifice a bit of speed and SpA to run more bulk, as without Stealth Rock, it is very close to getting OHKOed by +1 Dragonite Outrage and 2HKOed by +1 Gyarados at 0/0. An example spread of this is 48 HP / 52 Def / 180 SpA / 224 Spe, which hits a Leftovers number, lives +1 Dragonite after Stealth Rock and one round of Leftovers, and outspeeds up to Jolly Gyarados. Leftovers is almost always the item of choice here – Life Orb used to be a possible choice; however, it significantly cuts into Suicune natural bulk and ruins its ability to be a blanket check to a lot of threats.

- I would rephrase the pros of Timid here; Jolly Gyara isn't a relevant target in the current DPP
- I wouldn't mention Life Orb here, I don't think it's necessary to do so

Usage Tips
========

While Offensive Calm Mind Suicune can sweep, it typically plays as an offensive team’s primary switch-in to Heatran, an emergency answer to Gyarados and Dragonite, trades with threats such as Metagross, Swampert, and Infernape, and/or weakens opposing answers to Water types such as Latias. If Suicune is used in such as a way, it should generally be ready to Calm Mind if the opposing Pokemon can’t threaten it effectively or attack once it enters the field if it is being used to answer dangerous threats. If Suicune wants to sweep, a good way to do so is to weaken or eliminate the opposing Water resists, Offensive Electrics, and Special walls, such as Roserade, Shaymin, Zapdos, and Clefable. Try to avoid Suicune getting statused, as it becomes much worse against Breloom if it Paralyzed for example. Finally, the opponent can use Trick with Rotom-A or Latias to cripple Suicune; however, if one removes the resists to Hydro Pump, Suicune can sweep at +1 despite being Choice locked. If Suicune has Protect, aggressively predicting Explosion, such as soon as one switches it in on non-Leftovers Heatran and immediately Protecting, can often pay dividends against opponents desperate to Explode on it.

- I would mention that a good way of abusing offensive Suicune can be in early game, or where Sand is eventually not up yet, since Suicune appreciates no Sand a ton

Team Options
========

Suicune really shines on Offensive Fire-Water-Grass cores, where it compliments Pokemon like Heatran and Roserade on Bulky Offense teams. Heatran can set up Stealth Rock, which Suicune really appreciates, or run a Passho Lure set to remove bait in and remove Milotic, Starmie, Clefable, Blissey, and Latias with Explosion, which can be annoying for Suicune. Roserade especially assists Suicune, as it removes the giant thorn in its side that are Toxic Spikes, as well as sets up Spikes, which puts threats such as defensive Celebi into OHKO range with a +1 Ice Beam, and/or Toxic Spikes, which can assist in the battle against Milotic, Blissey, or even Vaporeon. Suicune also appreciate a strong Offensive Water type, such as Empoleon, Kingdra, Choice Specs Starmie, or Swampert that can form a core to synergistically weaken opposing Water resists so that one of them can sweep. Additionally, Suicune appreciates teammates who weaken Special walls, so teammates like Gengar, which can burn Specially Defensive Jirachi and check or even Explode on Blissey and Clefable, Pokemon with Trick like Choice Scarf Rotom-A and Latias, who also potentially Healing Wish Suicune, and Breloom can help. Additionally, Suicune appreciates a Ground type or bulky Tyranitar (but watch out for Sand) to absorb strong Electric types from the likes of Zapdos or Rotom-A. A Swampert, Nidoqueen to set up and absorb Toxic Spikes, or Choice Scarf Flygon can work here.

Offensive Suicune can fit on a variety of other architypes too. It is a staple of Dual Screen teams, where Azelf or Uxie sets up Reflect and Light Screen with Light Clay and Suicune uses the added bulk to set up multiple Calm Minds and blow holes in the opposition. Other Pokemon that can fit on these aggressive teams are Chople Berry Dragon Dance Tyranitar with Ice Punch to lure in Breloom, Dragon Dance Gyarados to form that strong Water type Offensive core, Life Orb Swords Dance Scizor to eliminate the Skarmory that love to phase Suicune, and Dragon Dance Dragonite. Suicune can also fit on Rain teams, and generally works well on Offensive teams that want some added security against Dragon Dancers and Heatran.

- I would rephrase the Screens part, while Suicune is certainly great at abusing Screens it isn't necessarily the "first" option you think of on this archetype.
- I'm not entirely sure about the "DD Chople Tar luring Loom for Cune" here, since Off CM already has a strong Ice Beam to deal with it in the first place.
- Optional: You can eventually mention Magnezone, it synergizes well even with Off CM Suicune because it cripples Steel-types like Jirachi, Bronzong and remove Skarmory from the game.

Moves
========

CroCune is a strong win condition for defensive teams that also serves as a great switch-in to common threats to those teams such as Physical Jirachi, Metagross, and Swampert, among others.

A defensive Calm Mind set allows Suicune to set up many boosts in the face of Pokemon that can’t really threaten it, such as Swampert, Heatran, physical Jirachi, Metagross, most Tyranitar, among others. Calm Mind also gives Suicune the ability to be amazing in a last Pokemon situation, as it can set up Calm Minds without being phased out while using its insane bulk to create a game state that is unwinnable for the opponent. Surf is the only real option here, as even with the PP issues partially alleviated by RestTalk, this Suicune really needs the additional PP to handle the Clefable, Specially Defensive Jirachi, and Milotic that often switch in to neutralize it. Despite lacking investment, Suicune’s Surf can still dent what it needs to, OHKOing Infernape after Stealth Rock, 2HKOing Heatran, and 3HKOing most non Passho/Specially Defensive Tyranitar. At +6, the only common threats Suicune can’t break through are Defensive Celebi, Defensive Breloom, and Milotic. RestTalk is Suicune only form of Recovery and Status removal. It is notably the only common Suicune set that isn’t immediately crippled by Toxic Spikes, as well as break through the annoying ParaFlinch Jirachi sets with its mammoth bulk and Pressure. It also isn’t as bothered by Sand as other sets are.

Set Details
========

Suicune should be running Bold most of the time. This gives it the best chance to survive its sleeping turns and be a blanket check to physical threats such as Metagross, Swampert, Infernape, and Offensive Trick Room Bronzong, among others. However, one can also run more speed, such as 16 to outspeed Machamp and minimum Speed Rotom-A and 64 to outspeed Swampert and neutral Nature Tyranitar. Additionally, should one want more offense, it is possible to put the Physical bulk into SpA and run a Modest nature with a set of 252 HP / 240 SpA / 16 Spe. This gives Suicune the ability to significantly threaten defensive teams with a much stronger Surf against the like of Scizor, Bronzong, Metagross, Clefable, and Jirachi, among others. Leftovers gives passive recovery and should always be the item of choice on this set.

- I would mention how important it is for CroCune to run 252 HP. Besides the fact that it obviously makes it more bulky, it is important for CroCune to take as little damage as possible from Seismic Toss from both Clef and Blissey, especially if Sand is up / if Suicune is knocked off.
- Briefly mention the downsides of a Modest nature and a full SpA investment, CroCune won't switch as easily into Pokemon like Scarf Flygon, Swampert, Machamp, Metagross, Tyranitar, especially if Sand / Hazards are up. It won't take as well Explosions from the likes of Heatran for example too. Could even mention that a bit of Def EVs with the Modest nature should be considered instead of Max SpA.

Usage Tips
========

On the more defensive teams it is typically featured on, this Suicune commonly plays as a more offensive version of Milotic, and as such, can be switched in early and often before hazards are down against strong threats that typically break those teams, like Choice Band Gyarados, Swampert, and Heatran. However, Suicune is very vulnerable while it is Resting, so it should not be the only switch-ins to these Pokemon. Suicune shouldn’t attempt a sweep while threats such as Breloom, Milotic, and Roar Latias are still alive, as they will instantly stall any momentum Suicune has. As Suicune is vulnerable to Sand and really wants its Leftovers, care should be taken to avoid Clefable and Gliscor’s Knock Off, as this makes it much hard to sweep. If many entry hazards are down, it can be quite difficult to wake Suicune up from Rest, so against Spikes stacking teams, take care when switching Suicune in. When using a more offensive team, take advantage of Suicune’s ability to shrug off status against a defensive Jirachi for example to get multiple Calm Minds if the game state is favorable.

Team Options
========

Defensive Calm Mind Suicune is commonly used as a win condition on Defensive teams, and as such, really appreciates teammates that can mitigate its flaws (reliance on one attack, relative passivity, and vulnerability to Trick and Explosion). Public Enemy number one for this Suicune is Breloom, closely followed by Haze Milotic and Defensive Celebi. As such, strong Breloom answers such as Gliscor, Zapdos, and Latias are fantastic partners. Gliscor and Latias can also absorb strong Electric attacks (but watch out for Hidden Power Ice), which Suicune also struggles with. Suicune can even absorb Breloom’s Spore with RestTalk, allowing Gliscor and Latias to beat it. Latias can also Healing Wish Suicune in dire situations. Good Pokemon to punish Milotic and Celebi, such as Skarmory, are also appreciated. Strong special walls like Clefable and Blissey can help with Suicune’s vulnerability to Rotom-A, Roserade, and Zapdos, while Choice Scarf Tyranitar can Pursuit trap any Rotom-A or Latias trying to Trick Suicune a Choice Scarf. Since this Suicune is so passive before boosting, Choice Scarf Rotom-A can revenge kill Gyarados or Dragonite trying to set up on it or annoy Offenses trying to beat Suicune down with Explosion with its own RestTalk set. Suicune can also struggle mightily with entry hazards, and as such, appreciates Rapid Spin support. Forretress is a common choice on defensive teams, as Starmie doesn’t fit well alongside this Suicune.

With a more Offensive spread, Calm Mind RestTalk Suicune fits well with lures to remove its answers. For Breloom, a Dragon Dance Chople Berry Tyranitar fits well with this purpose, as well as a Choice Specs Sleep Talk Latias or a Lum Berry Jirachi with Psychic/Metagross with Zen Headbutt. Other Tyranitar and Jirachi sets also work well for helping check Roar Latias. Magnezone can be nice for removing the Skarmory that tries to phase it out. Like the Offensive Calm Mind Suicune set, Passho Berry Magma Storm Heatran can lure in Milotic and offensive check Roserade, Celebi, and Rotom-A.

- I would rephrase all of the last part; I think you shouldn't split partners either for Bold or Offensive CroCune, since Bold should be the most dominant. Mention what you said for the Off spread part in the Standard part
- Mention Roserade/Nidoqueen as good partners for CroCune; Toxic Spikes helps deal with Pokemon like Milotic and Quagsire that otherwise would wall CroCune forever.
- Any Skarmory lure is also appreciated; Trick Iron Ball Metagross works as one, also synergizes well with CroCune in general.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Substitute Suicune is strong set-up sweeper that takes advantages of Suicune’s Pressure ability as well as its base 100 HP stat – this allows it to make Substitutes unbreakable by Seismic Toss in one turn. This can make the opponent quickly run out of PP, especially with Protect. This is notable because teams often use low PP moves to counter Suicune, such as Clefable’s Encore, Roserade’s Leaf Storm, and Latias’ Draco Meteor, among others. Even moves without low PP, such as Seismic Toss or Thunderbolt, can quickly run low due to the combination of Substitute, Protect, and Pressure – this allows Suicune to set up in the face of its counters and overwhelm them.

In addition to making Suicune such a threat, Calm Mind makes Suicune’s Substitutes very difficult to break by special moves. As an example, Timid Heatran’s Earth Power only has a 18.8 % chance to break Suicune’s Substitutes as +0 but will never break without a critical hit as it accrues boosts. RestTalk Rotom-A’s Thunderbolt will never break if Suicune gets to +3, Gengar without Life Orb will not break Suicune’s Substitutes at +1, and so on. Surf is the standard for Substitute Suicune due to much greater PP and lack of SpA investment, but Hydro Pump can be used on more offensive sets, particularly those that forgo Protect for Ice Beam or drop the Speed investment for more SpA for a more offensive SubCune. Protect is the standard to abuse Suicune’s pressure ability, but Ice Beam is very nice to prevent Roar Latias and Breloom from defeating Suicune, as well as giving Suicune a more damaging move for Water resists in general. Suicune can also run Hidden Power Electric over Protect or Ice Beam to hit Waters at the expense of Latias and Breloom as well as the Super-effective hit on Zapdos.

Set Details
========

Suicune must run absolute max HP here, as that is the only way it can get 101 HP Substitutes. Additionally, Suicune should run a lot of speed and a Timid nature in order to use the Substitute against status users such as Latias, Jirachi, Celebi, and Heatran, among others. The speed here outspeeds Adamant Lucario and under, but other speed investments are also viable, such as 64 to outspeed neutral Tyranitar, 152 to outspeed + Speed Tyranitar, 228 to outspeed +speed Breloom, and Timid 252 to outspeed everything possible. The remainder can be put in SpA to hit harder with Surf or Hydro Pump. Leftovers is the only choice in item to make more Substitutes.

Usage Tips
========

Since this Suicune is much more of a pure sweeper than the Offensive Calm Mind or CroCune set as well as needs its HP to set up Substitutes, it needs to be played carefully so that it doesn’t lose too much HP. Try not to reveal Suicune until at least the opposing team is scouted for anything that could beat it. Suicune’s Protect + Substitute antics allows it to PP stall answers to it, but Suicune absolutely must avoid status, as any of them will surely cripple it. Try to avoid setting up in Sand if possible to fully abuse Leftovers recovery. If Clefable hard switches into Suicune, try to stall with Protect should Suicune have it as long as possible to PP stall Encore.

- Will need to mention Healing Wish situations to eventually heal back Suicune and/or weather removal support situations

Team Options
========
As mentioned, this Suicune set needs quite a bit of support. This Suicune loves Toxic Spikes due its nature as a stalling machine as well as their removal, since they cripple it. Nidoqueen is a great partner, as is Roserade, because they both remove Toxic Spikes on switch in. This Suicune can also get low on HP, and as such, appreciates Wish support from Jirachi and Clefable, as well as Healing wish support also from Jirachi as well as Latias. Since it can struggle with low damage output before it gets going, this set benefits from strong wallbreakers to weaken or remove threats such as Encore Clefable, Roar Latias, and Whirlwind Skarmory. Choice Band Swampert, Lure Passho Berry Heatran sets, and Magnezone can switch in and remove these Pokemon. Additionally, Gengar and Modest Choice Specs Latias can help combat some of the walls this set does not enjoy facing. Additionally, since this Suicune cannot handle the defensive responsibility that Offensive Suicune and CroCune have, one should have other good switch ins to Fire types such as Latias and something like Choice Scarf Rotom-A to handle set-up Dragon Dancers. Similar lures for the Offensive CroCune set apply here for Breloom, such as Lum Berry Metagross and Jirachi; however, one should avoid using Tyranitar due to this Suicune hating Sand.

- Absolutely mention possible weather changer support for Sub CM; Rotom, Latias, Magnezone, Cresselia, Uxie and even Sunny Day Flygon are all possible candidates for that.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

As mentioned, Suicune isn’t particularly blessed with a wide movepool and it is best to stick to the options above. However, Suicune is powerful enough to make niche options viable. An example of this is Roar on the offensive Calm Mind set – Suicune can set up alongside Latias, Jirachi, and other Suicune and Roar them out. This is particularly notable because Calm Mind + Roar Latias typically runs a speed slower than an invested Suicune. It can also use Roar to make up for the lack of Hidden Power Electric on a boosted Gyarados – Gyarados typically won’t Taunt out of fear of a super-effective attack. Suicune also can use Toxic on the Offensive Calm Mind set to cripple Milotic or Swampert. Suicune also has access to non-Calm Mind sets, running Roar over Calm Mind on the RestTalk set. However, these are extremely passive and struggle mightily against Breloom or anything that resists Water. Suicune also has access to other Hidden Powers than Electric, with Grass nailing Swampert while still hitting Waters other than Gyarados or Fire for surprising Abomasnow. However, these are quite niche. Suicune also can change the weather itself on its Substitute set with Rain Dance over Protect or Ice Beam. However, this strategy still struggles against Encore Clefable while not giving additional help against Latias or Breloom, among others. Suicune also can use Tailwind, Reflect, or even Mirror Coat to beat specific match-ups, but these are, at best, niche options that are not more useful than those listed above.

Checks and Counters
===================

There are very few Pokemon that can blanket check all of Suicune’s sets. Grass types that are fantastic answers to CroCune for example mostly lose to +1 Offensive Suicune’s Ice Beam. Strong Special walls can easily lose to Substitute + Protect Suicune as well as CroCune. As such, Suicune is often checked with multiple Pokemon.

**Grass Types**: Roserade, Celebi, Breloom, and even Shaymin and Abomasnow are all great initial switch-ins into Suicune. Abomasnow is perhaps the best counter in the game, as it sets up Hail and easily eliminates all Suicune sets with its Wood Hammer or annoys them with Leech Seed. However, all of the others need to be careful, as Offensive Roserade is OHKOed after Stealth Rock from Ice Beam and can’t OHKO guaranteed back with Leaf Storm without a boosting item, Celebi needs a lot of speed and a Life Orb Leaf Storm to KO back, Breloom cannot take boosted Ice Beams at all, and Shaymin needs to be careful of running out of Seed Flare PP.

**Sand Storm**: While both Tyranitar and Hippowdon handily lose to Suicune, their Sand Stream ability makes it much harder to sweep with Suicune, as it really enjoys Leftovers recovery.

**Special Walls**: Both Clefable and Blissey are great initial switch-ins to Suicune. Clefable also has Encore, which cripples Suicune, as well as Knock Off. Blissey completely walls Offensive Suicune. However, Clefable is almost 2HKOed by Offensive Suicune at +1 and Blissey completely losses to CroCune and Substitute Suicune unless Sand is up. Both will eventually run out of Seismic Toss to CroCune and Substitute Suicune if Sand is not up and Suicune still has its Leftovers.

**Offensive Electric Types**: Zapdos, Rotom-A, as well as Raikou and even Jolteon can offensively check Suicune. Modest Choice Specs Zapdos notably OHKOs Suicune even at +1 with Thunderbolt. However, they all struggle to take boosted hits from Offensive Suicune and can eventually run out of PP against the Substitute + Protect set.

**Water Types**: Water types such as Empoleon, Kingdra, Starmie, and Gyarados can check Suicune if it lack Hidden Power Electric. However, they all mostly lose to the Offensive Calm Mind set's Hidden Power Electric or in Kingdra’s case, Ice Beam.

**Status**: Suicune despises Toxic Spikes, as both Poison and Burn seriously cut into its longevity and forces CroCune to Rest earlier. Latías is a great way to force Paralysis onto Suicune. If Paralyzed, Pokemon like Breloom and Defensive Roserade as well as Celebi become better counters, as they can use Seed Bomb and 120 Power Grass Knot and avoid getting OHKOed and 2HKOed by boosted Ice Beam, respectively.

**Phasing with Entry Hazards Down**: As Suicune mostly doesn’t run Roar, forcing it to lose its boost via Roar or Whirlwind is a great way to chip it down. Making Suicune come in on Spikes and Stealth Rock while asleep and then forcing it out again is a common way for defensive teams to defeat it. Skarmory, Latias, and Specially Defensive Zapdos do a good job of this.

**Residual Damage**: Another common way to neuter Suicune are to chip it and revenge kill it with a Choice Scarfer such as Tyranitar, whose Stone Edge does 43.4 - 51.3%, Latias, whose Draco Meteor does 35.1 - 41.6% to +1 Suicune, or Flygon, whose Jolly Outrage does 42.5 - 50.4%. Entry Hazards often do a good job of weakening Suicune to the point it can be revenge killed.

**Trick**: Tricking Suicune a Choice item from Rotom-A, Latias, or Jirachi especially cripples CroCune and Substitute Suicune. However, one must be careful of a boosted Offensive Suicune sweeping a weakened team with a +1 Hydro Pump.

I made the changes, Sakito, let me know what you think. As for SubCune's spread, I thought everybody ran really fast to dodge Lati's Twave, but definitely see the benefits of more SpA, cause 60 is really weak. The slowest I can think of is to run 156 + some creep so you can set up on Defensive Jirachi, but definitely willing to hear another opinion.

After re reading this analysis looks quite complete to me, great job! Consider it QC 1/2 after making those minor changes.

DPP Suicune

[OVERVIEW]

Suicune has established itself as a staple in the DPP metagame due to its prowess as a bulky sweeper. It’s Water typing, awesome defensive stats, decent speed tier, and access to Calm Mind allow it to be an enormous offensive threat while checking threats such as Heatran, Infernape, Swampert, Adamant Lucario, and Metagross (Suicune isn't a check to Adamant Lucario - as in it doesn't switch into it reliably and takes too much damage from Life Orb CCs - I would rephrase and add Pokemon like Bronzong, Gyarados or Kingdra instead.) – threats that are typically difficult to handle for the teams it is featured on. It can also take advantage of defensive teams’ lack of strong answers to Water-types – an Offensive Suicune at +1 almost 2HKOs Clefable and Jirachi with Hydro Pump as well as 2HKOs everything else commonly used on these teams with its coverage moves while also being one of the more difficult threats to beat for both hyper offensive (HO) teams and bulky offenses. Suicune also has the bulk to act as an emergency answer to set up sweepers such as Gyarados and Dragonite – tanking a boosted hit and eliminating the threat.

Maybe mention Substitute in its panel of options there as well; protects itself from Status (Body Slam/Twave) Trick and Explosion, takes advantage of Seismic Toss and similarly to Protect can help drain PPs with Pressure.

Despite these overwhelmingly positive traits, Suicune has some issues holding it back. Suicune status as a grounded Water-type means it is vulnerable to all entry hazards – sets without Rest struggle mightily against Toxic Spikes, and even with Rest, Suicune can get chipped easily if it is phased in repeatedly with Stealth Rock and Spikes set. Suicune also has little protection against Trick, struggles against Status, and is threatened by powerful Electric and Grass attacks from the likes of Zapdos, Rotom-A, Celebi, and Roserade. Suicune’s offensive Calm Mind sets often get chipped quite easily, whereas the defensive sets can struggle with coverage issues against Pokemon like Breloom, Latias, and Milotic (I would add Dragonite as a crucial one here). Suicune’s Substitutes sets also are crippled by Sand, as they can no longer effectively set up repeated Substitutes against the likes of Clefable, Blissey, or defensive Jirachi without Leftovers recovery. Finally, Suicune can be easily crippled by special walls such as Clefable using Knock Off as well as Encore and Blissey using Thunder Wave.

Moves
========

Offensive Calm Mind Suicune is one of the most dangerous Calm Mind users in the metagame, taking advantage of its bulk to setup on Pokemon such as Heatran and Gliscor to threaten the rest of the opposing team.

Hydro Pump deals major damage even with no boosts, OHKOing bulkless Heatran with Stealth Rock. Finally, Hidden Power Electric gives Suicune the ability to threaten other Water-types, notably OHKOing 0/0 Gyarados 75% of the time after Stealth Rock, granting it the upper hand against opposing Suicune, and giving the ability to eventually beat Haze Milotic through PP stalling. Common answers to Water-types, such as Kingdra and Empoleon can no longer stomach repeated Ice Beam and Hidden Power Electric, respectively. Additionally, do not underestimate Suicune’s ability to tank hits at +1 – only a Modest Choice Specs Zapdos can guarantee an OHKO on +1 Suicune after Stealth Rock. This allows Suicune to, in an emergency, take strong hits such as Roserade’s and Celebi’s Leaf Storm or Choice Specs Latias’ Draco Meteor and come out on top. It also allows it to stomach Empoleon and Starmie's Super-effective coverage and retaliate with a boosted Hidden Power Electric. However, another option is Protect, as a common answer to Suicune is to Explode on it with Passho Berry Heatran, Bronzong, or Metagross. In addition, not only does Protect give additional Leftovers recovery but it also allows it to scout moves such as Trick and the aforementioned Explosion. However, missing coverage on Water-types like Gyarados, Milotic, Empoleon, and Starmie is huge, and as such, Hidden Power Electric is the preferred option compared to Protect.

Set Details
========

Suicune should be running a Timid nature most of the time. Suicune sits at a very valuable Speed tier, and as such, needs to run max or almost max speed to outspeed Heatran, Adamant Lucario, and Mamoswine. Additionally, Timid Suicune's Speed allows it to outpace slower checks and hit them boosted coverage moves, notably defensive variants of Jirachi, Celebi, Roserade, Zapdos and Latias. However, as a lesser option, Modest allows Suicune some notable power benchmarks, such as a chance to 2HKO Clefable and specially defensive Jirachi after Stealth Rock at +1. Suicune can also sacrifice a bit of speed and SpA to run more bulk, as without Stealth Rock, it is very close to getting OHKOed by +1 Dragonite Outrage and 2HKOed by +1 Gyarados at 0/0. An example spread of this is 48 HP / 52 Def / 180 SpA / 228 Spe with a Modest nature, which hits a Leftovers number, lives +1 Dragonite after Stealth Rock and one round of Leftovers, and outspeeds Jolly Breloom, Adamant Gyarados, and Adamant Dragonite. Leftovers gives passive recovery and should always be the item of choice on this set.

Usage Tips
========

While offensive Calm Mind Suicune can sweep, it typically plays as an offensive team’s primary switch-in to Heatran, an emergency answer to Gyarados and Dragonite, trades with threats such as Metagross, Swampert, and Infernape, and/or sets up early game before sand is up to weaken opposing answers to Water-types such as Latias or Roserade. Suicune should be ready to Calm Mind immediately if the opposing Pokemon can’t threaten it effectively, as even Suicune's checks can struggle against if boosted. Suicune really appreciates teammates weakening or eliminating the opposing Water resists, offensive Electrics, and Special walls, such as Roserade, Shaymin, Zapdos, and Clefable. Suicune also enjoys a field clear of sand to use its natural bulk and power at +1 to push past its checks. Try to avoid Suicune getting statused, as it becomes much worse against Breloom and defensive Roserade if it paralyzed for example. Finally, the opponent can use Trick with Rotom-A or Latias to cripple Suicune; however, if one removes the resists to Hydro Pump, Suicune can sweep at +1 despite being Choice locked. If Suicune has Protect, aggressively predicting Explosion, such as soon as one switches it in on non-Leftovers Heatran after it uses Stealth Rock or Fire Blast and immediately Protecting, can often pay dividends against opponents desperate to remove it.

Team Options
========

Suicune really shines on offensive Fire-Water-Grass cores, where it compliments Pokemon like Heatran and Roserade on bulky offense teams. Heatran can set up Stealth Rock, which Suicune really appreciates, as well as generally threatens the Grass-types that scare out Suicune, such as Roserade and Celebi. Bulkier Heatran sets also assist against defensive Jirachi, which can tank boosted Suicune hits and paralyze it with Body Slam. Roserade especially assists Suicune, as it removes the giant thorn in its side that are Toxic Spikes, as well as sets up Spikes, putting threats such as defensive Celebi into OHKO range with a +1 Ice Beam, and/or Toxic Spikes, which can assist in the battle against Milotic, Blissey, or even Vaporeon. Suicune also appreciate a strong offensive Water-type, such as Empoleon, Kingdra, Choice Specs Starmie, or Swampert that can form a core to synergistically weaken opposing Water resists so that one of them can sweep. Additionally, Suicune appreciates teammates who weaken special walls, so teammates like Gengar and the aforementioned Heatran can cripple or remove defensive checks such as Clefable, Blissey, and Latias with Explosion, while Heatran can further lure Water-types such as Starmie and Milotic with a Passho berry + Explosion set. Other ways of taking advantage of special walls, such as common Trick users like Choice Scarf Rotom-A and Choiced Latias sets can also assist Suicune. Breloom is also a great Suicune partner, as it not only counters the special walls, but also absorbs status once the Toxic Orb activates. Additionally, Suicune appreciates a Ground type or bulky Tyranitar (but watch out for sand) to absorb strong Electric-type attacks from the likes of Zapdos or Rotom-A. A Swampert, Nidoqueen to set up and absorb Toxic Spikes, Gliscor, or Choice Scarf Flygon can work alongside Suicune. Suicune also appreciates Magnezone support, as bulky Steel types such as Jirachi, Metagross, Bronzong, and Skarmory can either cripple Suicune with Status, tank a hit and Explode on it, or phase it out and force it to set up again.

Offensive Suicune can fit on a variety of other archetypes too. Hyper offensive teams, such as those built around dual screens provided by Uxie, Azelf, or Cresselia, enjoy its strong power at +1 as well as it ability to plug many holes these teams typically have defensively. Other Pokemon that can fit on these aggressive teams are Dragon Dance Tyranitar to help break through common checks like Milotic, Dragon Dance Gyarados to form that strong Water type Offensive core, Life Orb Swords Dance Scizor to eliminate the Skarmory that love to phase Suicune, and Dragon Dance Dragonite. Suicune can also fit on Rain teams, alongside other Water-types such as Empoleon, and generally works well on Offensive teams that want some added security against Dragon Dancer users and Heatran.

Moves
========

CroCune is a strong win condition for defensive teams that also serves as a great switch-in to common threats to those teams such as Heatran, physical Jirachi, Metagross, and Swampert.

A defensive Calm Mind set allows Suicune to set up many boosts in the face of Pokemon that can’t really threaten it, such as Swampert, Heatran, physical Jirachi, Metagross, and most Tyranitar. Calm Mind also gives Suicune the ability to be amazing in a last Pokemon situation, as it can set up Calm Minds without being phased out while using its insane bulk to create a game state that is unwinnable for the opponent. Surf is the only real option here, as even with the PP issues partially alleviated by RestTalk, this Suicune really needs the additional PP to handle the Clefable, defensive Jirachi, Blissey, and Milotic that often switch in to neutralize it. Despite lacking investment, Suicune’s Surf can still dent what it needs to, OHKOing Infernape after Stealth Rock, 2HKOing Heatran, and 3HKOing most non Passho/Specially Defensive Tyranitar. At +6, the only common threats Suicune can’t break through are defensive Celebi, Breloom, and Milotic (I get why you mention Breloom there, but if in that sentence you mean Pokemon that can take on Suicune at +6, then Breloom isn't quite it - I would probably add defensive Latias instead).

Set Details
========

Suicune should always be running max HP with this set. It not only obviously makes it more bulky, but also minimizes the damage taken from Seismic Toss from Clefable or Blissey -- important if sand is up or Suicune takes a Knock Off from Clefable. It also should be running Bold most of the time. This gives it the best chance to survive its sleeping turns and be a blanket check to physical threats such as Metagross, Swampert, Infernape, and Offensive Trick Room Bronzong. However, one can also run more speed, such as 16 to outspeed Machamp and minimum Speed Rotom-A and 64 to outspeed Swampert and neutral Nature Tyranitar. Additionally, should one want more offense, it is possible to put all or some of the physical bulk into SpA and run a Modest nature with a set of 252 HP / 240 SpA / 16 Spe. This gives Suicune the ability to significantly threaten defensive teams with a much stronger Surf against the like of Scizor, Bronzong, Metagross, Clefable, and Jirachi, among others. However, without a Bold nature, Suicune takes significantly more damage from physical Pokemon like Choice Scarf Flygon, Swampert, Machamp, Metagross, Infernape, and Tyranitar, among others, especially if sand and/or hazards are set. This makes it much harder to get past bad Sleep Talks or survive to get another Rest off. It also is significantly more likely to faint due to Explosion. Leftovers gives passive recovery and should always be the item of choice on this set.

Usage Tips
========

On the more defensive teams it is typically featured on, this Suicune commonly plays as a more offensive version of Milotic, and as such, can use it's resistances and Pressure ability to shore the team against strong threats that typically break those teams, like Choice Band Gyarados, Swampert, Heatran, and sometimes even Machamp's Dynamic Punch. However, Suicune is very vulnerable while it is Resting, so one should not be careless with its health -- it should not be the only switch-ins to these Pokemon. If many entry hazards are down, it can be quite difficult to wake Suicune up from Rest, so against Spikes stacking teams, picking the correct time to wall a threat or setup is of utmost importance. Take advantage of this Suicune’s ability to shrug off status against a defensive Jirachi for example to get multiple Calm Minds if the game state is favorable.

Team Options
========

Defensive Calm Mind Suicune is commonly used as a win condition, and as such, really appreciates teammates that can mitigate its flaws (reliance on one attack, relative passivity, and vulnerability to Trick and Explosion). Public enemy number one for this Suicune is Breloom, closely followed by Haze Milotic and Defensive Celebi. As such, strong Breloom answers such as Gliscor, Zapdos, and Latias are fantastic partners. Suicune can even absorb Breloom’s Spore with RestTalk, allowing Gliscor and Zapdos to beat it more comfortably. Latias can also Healing Wish Suicune even while asleep in dire situations. Good Pokemon to punish Milotic and Celebi, such as Skarmory, are also appreciated. Strong special walls like Clefable and Blissey can help with Suicune’s vulnerability to Rotom-A, Roserade, and Zapdos's super effective coverage, while Choice Scarf Tyranitar can Pursuit trap any Rotom-A or Latias trying to Trick Suicune a Choice Scarf. Since this Suicune is so passive before boosting, Choice Scarf Rotom-A can revenge kill Gyarados or Dragonite trying to set up on it. Rotom-A can also annoy opposing offenses trying to beat Suicune down with Explosion with its own RestTalk set. Suicune can also struggle mightily with entry hazards, and as such, appreciates Rapid Spin support. Forretress is a common choice on defensive teams, as both Starmie and Tentacruel don’t fit well alongside this Suicune and it provides Spikes support to wear down Suicune answers. In the event Rapid Spinning is difficult, Suicune also enjoys grounded Poison-type teammates to absorb Toxic Spikes. Roserade and Nidoqueen are quite nice choices that also fit well on the teams this Suicune finds itself on, as they can set their own Toxic Spikes. They accentuate its defensive nature as well as help with threats such as Milotic or Water Absorb Pokemon such as Quaqsire and Vaporeon that force Suicune to PP stall them. While not as sand crippled as other Suicune sets, removing sand with something like Rain Dance Bronzong, Rain Dance Cresselia, Rain Dance Uxie, Rain Dance Latias, Sunny Day Breloom, and even Sunny Day Flygon are all effective choices.

Calm Mind RestTalk Suicune also fits well with lures or trappers to remove its answers. For Skarmory, the gold standard is Magnezone, but other options like Trick Iron Ball Metagross or unexpected Fire- or Electric-type coverage on an unexpected Pokemon such as Tyranitar works well too. For Breloom, a Dragon Dance Chople Berry Tyranitar fits well with this purpose with its boosted Ice Punch. Additionally, options that absorb the Spore such as Choice Specs Sleep Talk Latias or a Lum Berry Jirachi as well as Metagross with Psychic-type coverage are also effective. Other Tyranitar and Jirachi, such as those with Thunder Wave and Body Slam respectively, also work well for helping check defensive Latias with Roar. Like the offensive Calm Mind Suicune set, Passho Berry Magma Storm Heatran can lure in Milotic and Clefable and offensive check Roserade, Celebi, and Rotom-A.

Moves
========

Substitute Suicune is a strong set-up sweeper that takes advantages of Suicune’s Pressure ability as well as its base 100 HP stat – this allows it to make Substitutes unbreakable by Seismic Toss in one turn. This can make the opponent quickly run out of PP, especially with Protect. This is notable because teams often use low PP moves to counter Suicune, such as Clefable’s Encore, Roserade’s Leaf Storm, and Latias’s Draco Meteor, among others.

RestTalk Rotom-A’s Thunderbolt will never break if Suicune gets to +3, Gengar without Life Orb will not break Suicune’s Substitutes at +1. Surf is the standard for Substitute Suicune due to much greater PP and lack of SpA investment, but Hydro Pump can be used on more offensive sets, particularly those that forgo Protect for Ice Beam or those that choose to drop the Speed or even HP investment for a more offensive SubCune. Protect is the standard to make further use of Suicune’s Pressure ability, but Ice Beam is very nice to prevent Roar Latias and Breloom from defeating Suicune, as well as giving Suicune a more damaging move for Water-type resists in general. Suicune can also run Hidden Power Electric over Protect or Ice Beam to hit Waters at the expense of Latias and Breloom as well as the Super-effective hit on Zapdos. I don't think HP Elec should ever be used on Sub sets, there's simply no room for it and I don't think it's relevant to mention it there.

Set Details
========

Suicune almost always must run absolute max HP, as that is the only way it can get 101 HP Substitutes. Beyond this, there are a wide variety of ways to EV this Suicune. To make Suicune has some power behind its Surf in case it can't set up very much, Modest 104 SpA is the standard. This allows Suicune to set up defensive Body Slam Jirachi without getting paralyzed. Some additional speed EVs can be used to outrun Jirachi too. However, Suicune can also run up to Timid 196 Spe, which outspeeds Adamant Lucario and can potentially prevent a Thunder Wave from defensive Latias or an Explosion from Heatran. Other speed investments are also viable, such as 16 to outspeed RestTalk Rotom and Machamp, 64 to outspeed neutral Tyranitar, and 228 to outspeed +speed Breloom and Adamant Gyarados. The remainder can be put in SpA to hit harder with Surf or Hydro Pump. Some SubCunes value the additional power and Speed over the ability to make 101 HP Substitutes, and as such, can drop the HP investment. Leftovers is the only choice in item to make more Substitutes. I don't really agree with that, altho I could see the reasoning I think it's too specific. It's absolutely crucial to have max HP with Substitute or else you're kind of losing the initial point.

Usage Tips
========

Since this Suicune is much more of a pure sweeper than the offensive Calm Mind or CroCune, it needs to be played carefully so that it doesn’t lose too much HP. Beyond this, how SubCune plays depends on whether or not it has Protect. With Protect, try not to reveal Suicune until at least the opposing team is scouted for anything that could beat it. Suicune’s Protect + Substitute antics allows it to PP stall answers to it, but Suicune absolutely must avoid status, as any of them will surely cripple it. With Ice Beam or another coverage move, preserving its health isn't quite as important, as typically it won't try to get higher than +1. For both variants, try to avoid setting up in sand or hail, as well as preferably eliminate Tyranitar, Hippowdon, and Abomasnow to fully make the most of Leftovers recovery. If Clefable hard switches into Suicune, try to stall with Protect should Suicune have it as long as possible to PP stall Encore. Additionally, this Suicune values Healing Wish the most, so having Latias, Jirachi, or Clefable ready can give Suicune a second chance.

Team Options
========
As mentioned, this Suicune set needs quite a bit of support. Above else, this Suicune loves a grounded Poison type that can set up Toxic Spikes, as they both cripple it and supports its stalling nature. Nidoqueen, Roserade, and even Qwilfish are great partners as they can cover either cover defensive holes in the case of Nidoqueen and Roserade, while Qwilfish can use its offensive presence to set up the hazards or use Explosion on walls. Another valuable piece of support is changing the weather, as Suicune is much more effective with its Leftovers in tact. This can be done on a dedicated Rain team with Pokemon like Rain Dance Azelf, Uxie, Bronzong, Scizor, Latias, or Rotom, or can be done with other weather clearers such as Sunny Day Flygon and Sunny Day Breloom. Suicune additionally enjoys lures and trappers to remove hard answers such as Roar Latias, Whirlwind Skarmory, and Encore Clefable. Pokemon working well here include Trick Iron Ball Metagross for Skarmory, Rotom-A, and Zapdos, Magma Storm + Explosion Heatran for special walls, Gengar, Choice Specs Latias for Breloom, and Magnezone. Additionally, strong wallbreakers such as Choice Band Swampert, Life Orb Mixed Flygon, and Breloom can work well here too.

This Suicune generally needs to be close to full HP and the opposing team scouted for answers before it can sweep. As such, Suicune appreciates Wish and Healing Wish support from the likes of Latias, Jirachi, and Clefable if the opponents manages to force out Suicune. Additionally, since this Suicune cannot handle the defensive responsibility that Offensive Suicune and CroCune have, one should have other good switch ins to Fire- and Water-type coverage such as Latias as well as being in a Fire-Water-Grass core with Roserade and Heatran. Along these lines, as Suicune is vulnerable to set-up from Water resistant threats like Gyarados and Dragonite, a strong revenge killer such as Choice Scarf Flygon or Rotom-A can be quite helpful. As mentioned above, Suicune can be best used alongside general Rain sweepers such as Qwilfish and Kingdra, as this best gives the weather clearing by baiting in and destroying Tyranitar, Hippowdon, and Abomasnow as well as Toxic Spikes removal it needs, as well as alongside Roserade and Heatran in a Fire-Water-Grass core to bait in and remove counters as well as take advantage of Roserade's hazards.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Suicune also has access to other Hidden Powers than Electric, with Grass nailing Swampert and Quaqsire while still hitting Waters other than Gyarados or Fire for surprising Abomasnow.

===================

**Grass-types**: Abomasnow, Roserade, Celebi, Breloom, and even Shaymin are all great initial switch-ins into Suicune. Abomasnow is perhaps the best counter in the game, as it sets up Hail and easily eliminates all Suicune sets with its Wood Hammer or annoys them with Leech Seed. However, all of the others need to be careful, as Offensive Roserade is OHKOed after Stealth Rock from Ice Beam and can’t OHKO guaranteed back with Leaf Storm without a boosting item or a Modest nature, Celebi needs a lot of speed and a Life Orb Leaf Storm to KO back, Breloom cannot take boosted Ice Beams at all, and Shaymin needs to be careful of running out of Seed Flare PP.

**Sandstorm**: While both Tyranitar and Hippowdon handily lose to Suicune, their Sand Stream ability makes it much harder to sweep with Suicune, as it really enjoys Leftovers recovery.

**Special Walls**: Both Clefable and Blissey are great initial switch-ins to Suicune. Clefable has Encore, which cripples Suicune, as well as Knock Off.

**Offensive Electric-types**: Zapdos, Rotom-A, Raikou, and even Jolteon can offensively check Suicune. Modest Choice Specs Zapdos notably OHKOs offensive Suicune even at +1 SpDef with Thunderbolt. However, they all struggle to take boosted hits from Offensive Suicune and can eventually run out of PP against the Substitute + Protect set.

**Water-types**: Water types such as Empoleon, Kingdra, Starmie, and Gyarados can check Suicune if it lacks Hidden Power Electric. However, they all mostly lose to the Offensive Calm Mind set's Hidden Power Electric or in Kingdra’s case, Ice Beam. Vaporeon and Quaqsire are completely immune to Suicune's Water-type moves and can cripple it with Toxic, Encore, or Roar. Milotic has access to Haze, although Suicune can PP stall it due to Pressure.

**Dragon Types**: Even though Latias, Dragonite, and Kingdra generally lose against Suicune that has a boosted Ice Beam, they completely stop sets that rely solely on Surf. Latias also can paralyze offensive sets, remove less bulky sets with Super-effective coverage, or Roar out Suicune, while Dragonite and Kingdra hit Suicune hard with their Dragon-type moves.

**Status**: Suicune despises Toxic Spikes. In addition, both Poison and Burn seriously cut into its longevity and forces CroCune to Rest earlier. Latias is a great way to force paralysis onto Suicune or Roar it out, as it typically outspeeds and has great defenses. If paralyzed, Pokemon like Breloom and Defensive Roserade as well as Celebi become better counters, as they can use Seed Bomb and 120 Power Grass Knot while avoiding getting OHKOed and 2HKOed by boosted Ice Beam, respectively.

**Phasing with Entry Hazards Down**: As Suicune mostly doesn’t run Roar, forcing it to lose its boost via Roar or Whirlwind is a great way to wear it down. Making Suicune come in on Spikes and Stealth Rock while asleep and then forcing it out again is a common way for defensive teams to defeat it. Skarmory, Latias, and defensive Zapdos do a good job of this.

Checking this was an unpleasant experience. While you don't make a ton of obvious mistakes (but please do review your capitalization), your prose choices lead to writing that goes on for longer than it has to. Combine that with three sets and a fairly complex Pokemon, you get a slog of an analysis that I feel does a slight disservice to DPP. If you'd like to go over some of the finer details of what you can do better, let me know or join the GP Discord for live help. Please consider doing so if you want to take on long analyses in the future; I personally would be unwilling to check another analysis of this size.
Dpp Suicune

[OVERVIEW]

Suicune has established itself as a staple in the DPP metagame due to its prowess as a bulky sweeper. Its Water typing, awesome defensive stats, decent Speed tier, and access to Calm Mind allow it to be an enormous offensive threat while checking threats such as Heatran, Infernape, Swampert, Gyarados, Kingdra, Bronzong, and Metagross — threats that are typically difficult to handle for the teams it is featured on. It can also take advantage of defensive teams’ lack of strong answers to Water-types; an Offensive +1 offensive Suicune at +1 almost 2HKOes Clefable and Jirachi with Hydro Pump as well as 2HKOs and 2HKOes everything else commonly used on these teams with its coverage moves while also being one of the more difficult threats for hyper offense and bulky offense to beat for both hyper offensive (HO) teams and bulky offenses. Suicune also has the bulk to act as an emergency answer to set-up sweepers such as Gyarados and Dragonite, (comma) tanking a boosted hit and eliminating the threat.

Suicune also has a role as being a good win condition sweeper on defensive teams, with its Pressure ability and large defenses allowing it to set up multiple Calm Minds use Calm Mind multiple times and eventually sweep through opposing defensive teams that can’t punish it while asleep or behind a 101 HP Substitute. These make Suicune is one of the better Substitute users in the game; the Substitute helps to block blocks threats such as status, Knock Off, Trick, and Explosion while also draining PP effectively with Pressure, especially in the case of Seismic Toss. In a last Pokemon situation, Suicune has a strong comeback potential, as it can no longer be phased. Additionally, while Suicune has quite a limited movepool, it can effectively use options such as Protect to further drain PP with Pressure, Toxic to punish walls such as Milotic, or and even Roar to win Calm Mind wars against Latias, Jirachi, and other Suicune.

Despite these overwhelmingly positive traits, Suicune has some issues holding it back. Suicune status as a grounded Water type means it It is vulnerable to all entry hazards — sets without Rest struggle mightily against Toxic Spikes, and even with Rest, Suicune can get chipped easily if it is phased in repeatedly with Stealth Rock and Spikes set. Suicune’s Substitute sets also are crippled by sand, as they can no longer effectively set up repeated Substitutes repeatedly use Substitute against the likes of Clefable, Blissey, or and defensive Jirachi without Leftovers recovery. Finally, Suicune can be easily crippled by special walls such as Clefable using Knock Off as well as or Encore and Blissey using Thunder Wave.

Moves
========

Offensive Calm Mind Suicune is one of the most dangerous Calm Mind users in the metagame, taking advantage of its bulk to set up on Pokemon such as Heatran and Gliscor to threaten the rest of the opposing team.

Hydro Pump deals major damage even with no boosts, OHKOing bulkless Heatran with after Stealth Rock. It is generally a strong attack to throw out, OHKOing Lucario with a Special Defense drop, 2HKOing most Metagross, and 2HKOing most Tyranitar without a Passho Berry. Ice Beam gives Suicune coverage against many Grass- and Dragon-types that threaten it, doing major damage to including Breloom, Latias, Roserade, and Dragonite, (comma) while also giving a super-effective option against Zapdos. Finally, Hidden Power Electric gives Suicune the ability to threaten other Water-types, notably OHKOing 0/0 bulkless Gyarados 75% of the time after Stealth Rock, granting it the upper hand against opposing other Suicune, (comma) and giving the ability to eventually beat Haze Milotic through PP stalling. However, after a Calm Mind, Suicune becomes significantly more threatening – at +1, Suicune can After using Calm Mind, Suicune becomes even more threatening and able to seriously damage most of its answers. Choiced Choice-locked offensive Rotom-A can no longer take a Hydro Pump, with 0/0 being OHKOed after Stealth Rock, while only the bulkiest of Breloom can take a boosted Ice Beam. Common answers to Water-types, (comma) such as Kingdra and Empoleon can no longer stomach repeated Ice Beam and or Hidden Power Electric, respectively. Additionally, do not underestimate Suicune’s ability to tank hits at +1 – only a Modest Choice Specs Zapdos can guarantee an OHKO on +1 Suicune after Stealth Rock. This allows Suicune to, in an emergency, take a strong hit such as Roserade’s and Celebi’s Leaf Storm or Choice Specs Latias’s Draco Meteor and come out on top. It can also allows it to stomach Empoleon's and Starmie's super-effective coverage and retaliate with a boosted Hidden Power Electric. However, another option is Protect, as a common answer to Suicune is to use Explosion on it with Passho Berry Heatran, Bronzong, or Metagross. In addition, not only does Protect give additional Leftovers recovery but it also allows it to scout Protect drains foes' PP, gives additional Leftovers recovery, and scouts moves such as Trick and Encore and drain PP. However, missing coverage on Water-types like Gyarados, Milotic, Empoleon, and Starmie is huge, and as such, Hidden Power Electric is the preferred option compared to Protect.

Set Details
========

Suicune should be running a Timid nature most of the time. Suicune sits at a very valuable Speed tier, and typically needs to run max or almost max speed invest fully or near fully in Speed to outspeed Heatran, Adamant Lucario, and Mamoswine. Additionally, Timid Suicune's Speed allows it to outpace slower checks and hit them boosted coverage moves, notably outpaces defensive variants of Jirachi, Celebi, Roserade, Zapdos and Latias. However, as a lesser option, Modest allows Suicune some notable power benchmarks, such as a chance to 2HKO Clefable and specially defensive Jirachi after Stealth Rock at +1. Suicune can also sacrifice a bit of speed and SpA Speed and Special Attack to run more bulk, as without Stealth Rock, it is normally very close to getting OHKOed by +1 Dragonite's Outrage and 2HKOed by +1 Gyarados at 0/0. An example spread of this is 48 HP / 52 Def / 180 SpA / 228 Spe with a Modest nature, which hits a Leftovers number, lives takes +1 Dragonite after Stealth Rock and one round of Leftovers, and outspeeds Jolly Breloom, Adamant Gyarados, and Adamant Dragonite.

Usage Tips
========

While offensive Calm Mind Suicune can sweep, it typically plays as an offensive team’s primary switch-in to Heatran, works as an emergency answer to Gyarados and Dragonite, trades with threats such as Metagross, Swampert, and Infernape, and/or sets up early-game before sand is up to weaken opposing answers to Water-types such as Latias or and Roserade. Suicune should be ready to use Calm Mind immediately if the opposing Pokemon can’t threaten it effectively, as even Suicune's checks can struggle against it if boosted. Suicune really appreciates teammates weakening or eliminating the opposing Water resists, offensive Electrics, and Special walls, Water switch-ins, offensive Electric-types, and special walls such as Roserade, Shaymin, Zapdos, and Clefable. Suicune also enjoys a field clear of sand to use its natural bulk and power at +1 to push past its checks. Try to avoid Suicune getting Suicune statused, as it becomes much worse against Breloom and defensive Roserade if it paralyzed, (comma) for example. Finally, the opponent can use Trick with from Rotom-A or Latias to can cripple Suicune; however, if one removes the resists to Hydro Pump, Hydro Pump answers are gone, Suicune can sweep at +1 despite being Choice locked. If Suicune has Protect, aggressively predicting Explosion, such as soon as one switches it in on non-Leftovers Heatran after it uses Stealth Rock or Fire Blast and immediately Protecting, can often pay dividends against opponents desperate to remove it.

Team Options

Suicune really shines on offensive Fire-Water-Grass cores, where it complements Pokemon like Heatran and Roserade on bulky offense teams. Heatran can set up Stealth Rock, (comma) which Suicune really appreciates, as well as and generally threatens the Grass-types that scare out Suicune, such as Roserade and Celebi. Bulkier Heatran sets also assist against defensive Jirachi, which can tank boosted Suicune hits and paralyze it with Body Slam. Roserade especially assists Suicune, (comma) as it removes the giant thorn in its side that are Toxic Spikes by removing Toxic Spikes, a giant thorn in Suicune's side. Roserade can also set up Spikes, putting threats such as defensive Celebi into OHKO range with a of +1 Ice Beam, and/or Toxic Spikes, which can assist in the battle against Milotic, Blissey, or and even Vaporeon. Suicune also appreciate a strong offensive Water-type alongside it, such as Empoleon, Kingdra, Choice Specs Starmie, or Swampert, (comma) to that can form a core to synergistically weaken opposing Water resists so that one of them can sweep checks to Water. Trick users like Choice Scarf Rotom-A and Choice item Latias are another way to hinder special walls. Breloom is also a great Suicune partner, as it not only counters the special walls, but also absorbs status once the Toxic Orb activates. Additionally, Suicune appreciates a Ground-type or bulky Tyranitar (but watch out for sand) to absorb strong Electric-type attacks from the likes of Zapdos or and Rotom-A. A Swampert, Nidoqueen to set up and absorb Toxic Spikes, Gliscor, or and Choice Scarf Flygon can work alongside Suicune for this purpose. Suicune also appreciates Magnezone support, as bulky Steel types such as Jirachi, Metagross, Bronzong, and Skarmory can either cripple Suicune with status, tank a hit and use Explosion on it, or phase it out and force it to set up again.

Offensive Suicune can fit on a variety of other archetypes too. Hyper offensive teams, such as those built around dual screens provided by Uxie, Azelf, or Cresselia, enjoy its strong power at +1 as well as it ability to plug many defensive holes these teams typically have defensively. Suicune can also fit on rain teams, (comma) alongside other Water-types such as Empoleon, and generally works well on offensive teams that want some added security against Dragon Dance users and Heatran.

Moves
========

CroCune is a strong win condition late-game sweeper for defensive teams that also serves as a great switch-in to common threats to those teams such as Heatran, physical Jirachi, Metagross, and Swampert.

A defensive Calm Mind set allows Suicune to set up many boosts in the face of Pokemon that can’t really threaten it, such as Swampert, Heatran, physical Jirachi, Metagross, and most Tyranitar. Calm Mind also gives makes Suicune the ability to be amazing in a last Pokemon situation, as it can set up multiple Calm Minds without being phased out while using its insane bulk to create a game state that is unwinnable for the opponent. Surf is the only real option here, as even with the PP issues partially alleviated by RestTalk, this Suicune really needs the additional PP to handle the Clefable, defensive Jirachi, Blissey, and Milotic that often switch in to neutralize it. Despite lacking investment, Suicune’s Surf can still dent what it needs to, OHKOing Infernape after Stealth Rock, 2HKOing Heatran, and 3HKOing most non Passho Berry/specially defensive Tyranitar. At +6, the only common threats Suicune can’t break through are defensive Celebi, Latias, and Milotic, while though Breloom and Dragonite especially can be a large thorn to Suicune that hasn’t up haven't gotten enough boosts to KO them. RestTalk is Suicune only form of recovery and status removal. It is notably the only common Suicune set that isn’t immediately crippled by Toxic Spikes, (comma) as well as and able to break through the annoying ParaFlinch Jirachi sets with its mammoth bulk and Pressure. It also isn’t as bothered by sand as other sets are.

Set Details
========

Suicune should always be running at least 401 HP if not maximum HP with this set. It not only obviously makes it more bulky, but also minimizes the damage taken from Seismic Toss from Clefable or Blissey -- important if sand is up or Suicune takes a Knock Off from Clefable. It also should be running Bold most of the time. This gives it the best chance a Bold nature to survive its sleeping turns and be a blanket check to physical threats such as Metagross, Swampert, Infernape, and Offensive Trick Room Bronzong. However, one can also run more Speed, such as 16 to outspeed Machamp and minimum Speed Rotom-A and 64 to outspeed Swampert and neutral nature Tyranitar. Additionally, should one want more offense, it is possible to put all or some of the physical bulk into SpA Special Attack and run a Modest nature with a set of 252 HP / 240 SpA / 16 Spe. This gives Suicune the ability to significantly threaten defensive teams with a much stronger Surf against the likes of Scizor, Bronzong, Metagross, Clefable, and Jirachi, among others. However, without a Bold nature, Suicune is vulnerable to Explosion and takes more damage from physical Pokemon it is meant to help wall like Choice Scarf Flygon, Swampert, Machamp, Metagross, Infernape, and Tyranitar, especially if sand and/or hazards or entry hazards are set. This makes it harder to get past bad Sleep Talk turns or survive to get another Rest off. It also is significantly more likely to faint due to Explosion.

Usage Tips
========

On the more defensive teams it is typically featured on, this Suicune commonly plays as a more offensive version of Milotic, and as such, can use it's using its resistances and Pressure ability to shore the team against strong threats that typically break those teams, like Choice Band Gyarados, Swampert, Heatran, and sometimes even Machamp's Dynamic Punch Machamp. However, Suicune is very vulnerable while it is Resting using Rest, so one should not be careless with its health — it should not be the only switch-in to these Pokemon. Suicune shouldn’t attempt a sweep while threats such as Breloom, Milotic, and Roar Latias are still alive active, as they will instantly stall any momentum Suicune has. As Suicune is vulnerable to sand and really wants its Leftovers, care should be taken to avoid Clefable's and Gliscor’s Knock Off, as this makes it much hard to sweep. If many entry hazards are down set, it can be quite difficult to wake Suicune up from Rest get Suicune out of spamming Rest, so against Spikes stacking teams, picking the correct time to wall a threat or set up is of utmost importance. Take advantage of this Suicune’s ability to shrug off status against a Pokemon like defensive Jirachi for example to get multiple Calm Minds if the game state is favorable to get multiple boosts.

Team Options
========

RestTalk Suicune can even absorb Breloom’s Spore with RestTalk, allowing Gliscor and Zapdos to beat it more comfortably. Latias can also Healing Wish Suicune even while asleep use Healing Wish on Suicune in dire situations. Good Pokemon to punish Milotic and Celebi, such as Skarmory, are also appreciated. Strong special walls like Clefable and Blissey can help with Suicune’s vulnerability to Rotom-A, Roserade, and Zapdos's super effective coverage, while Choice Scarf Tyranitar can Pursuit trap any Rotom-A or Latias trying to use Trick Suicune a Choice Scarf. Since this Suicune is so passive before boosting, Choice Scarf Rotom-A and Choice Scarf Flygon can revenge kill Gyarados or and Dragonite trying to set up on it. Rotom-A can also annoy opposing offenses offensive teams trying to beat Suicune down with Explosion with its own RestTalk set. In the event Rapid Spinning spinning is difficult, Suicune also enjoys grounded Poison-type teammates to absorb Toxic Spikes. Roserade and Nidoqueen are quite nice choices that also fit well on the teams this Suicune finds itself on, as they can set their own Toxic Spikes. They accentuate its defensive nature as well as help with threats such as Milotic or and Water Absorb Pokemon such as Quaqsire and Vaporeon that force Suicune to PP stall them. While not as weak to sand crippled as other Suicune sets, removing sand with something like Rain Dance Bronzong, Rain Dance Cresselia, Rain Dance Uxie, Rain Dance Latias, Sunny Day Breloom, and even Sunny Day Flygon are all effective choices.

Calm Mind RestTalk Suicune also fits well with lures or trappers to remove its answers. For Skarmory, the gold standard is Magnezone, but other options like Trick Iron Ball Metagross or and unexpected Fire- or Electric-type coverage on a Pokemon such as Tyranitar works well too. For Breloom, a Dragon Dance Chople Berry Tyranitar fits well with this purpose with its boosted Ice Punch. Additionally, options that absorb the Breloom's Spore such as Choice Specs Sleep Talk Latias or a and Lum Berry Jirachi as well as Metagross with Psychic-type coverage are also effective. Other Tyranitar and Jirachi, such as those with Thunder Wave and Body Slam respectively, also work well for helping check defensive Latias with Roar. Like the offensive Calm Mind Suicune set, Passho Berry Magma Storm Heatran can lure in Milotic and Clefable and offensively check Roserade, Celebi, and Rotom-A.

nature: Modest

Moves
========

Substitute Suicune is strong setup sweeper that takes advantages of Suicune’s Pressure ability as well as its base 100 HP stat – this allows it to make Substitutes unbreakable by Seismic Toss in one turn. This can make the opponent quickly run out of PP, especially with Protect. uses Pressure, Protect, and 101 HP Substitute to quickly drain PP from moves like Seismic Toss and Thunderbolt. This is notable because teams often use low PP moves to counter Suicune, such as Clefable’s Encore, Roserade’s Leaf Storm, and Latias’s Draco Meteor. Even moves without low PP, such as Seismic Toss or Thunderbolt, can quickly run low due to the combination of Substitute, Protect, and Pressure – this allows Suicune to set up in the face of its counters and overwhelm them.

In addition to making Suicune such a threat, Calm Mind makes Suicune’s Substitute very difficult to break by special moves such as Timid Heatran's Earth Power. As an example, Timid Heatran’s Earth Power only has a 18.8 % chance to break Suicune’s Substitutes as +0 but will never break without a critical hit as it accrues boosts. Some examples include how RestTalk Rotom-A’s Thunderbolt will never break if Suicune gets to +3 and Gengar without Life Orb will not break Suicune’s Substitutes at +1 cannot break +3 Suicune's Substitute, and non-Life Orb Gengar start losing to +1 Suicune. Surf is the standard for Substitute Suicune due to its much greater PP and lack of SpA investment, but Hydro Pump can be used on more offensive sets, particularly those that forgo Protect for Ice Beam or those that choose to drop speed for a more offensive SubCune Speed for power. Protect is the standard to make further use of Suicune’s Pressure ability, but Ice Beam is very nice to prevent Roar Latias and Breloom from defeating Suicune, (comma) as well as giving Suicune a more damaging move for and more quickly damages Ice-weak threats in general like Zapdos, Dragonite, and Roserade.

Set Details
========

Suicune always must run absolute max HP, as that is the only way it can get 101 HP Substitutes. Suicune needs maximum HP for its 101 HP Substitute. Beyond this, there are a wide variety of ways to EV this Suicune. To make Suicune has some power behind its Surf give its Surf some power in case it can't set up very much, Modest 104 SpA is the standard. This allows Suicune outspeed max speed Tyranitar and also to The remaining Speed lets Suicune outspeed any Tyranitar and set up on defensive Body Slam Jirachi without getting paralyzed. Some additional Speed EVs can be used to outrun Jirachi as well. However, Suicune can also run up to Timid 196 Spe, which outspeeds up to 196 Speed and a Timid nature outpaces Adamant Lucario and can potentially prevent a Thunder Wave from defensive Latias or an Explosion from Heatran. Other Speed investments are also viable, such as include 16 to outspeed RestTalk Rotom and Machamp, 64 to outspeed neutral Tyranitar, and 228 to outspeed +Speed Breloom and Adamant Gyarados. The remainder can be put in SpA to hit harder with Surf or Hydro Pump Special Attack.

Usage Tips
========

Since this Suicune is much more of a pure dedicated sweeper than the offensive Calm Mind or and CroCune sets, it needs to be played carefully so that it doesn’t lose too much HP. Beyond this, how SubCune How it plays depends on whether or not it has Protect. With Protect, try not to reveal Suicune until at least the opposing team is scouted for anything that could beat it. Suicune’s Protect + Substitute antics allows it to PP stall answers to it, but Suicune it absolutely must avoid status, as any of them will surely cripple it. With Ice Beam or another coverage move, preserving its health isn't quite as important, as typically it won't try to get higher than +1. For both variants, try to avoid setting up in sand or hail, (comma) as well as preferably and eliminate Tyranitar, Hippowdon, and Abomasnow to fully make the most of Leftovers recovery. If Clefable hard directly switches into Suicune, try to stall with Protect should Suicune have it as long as possible to PP stall Encore. Additionally, this This Suicune values Healing Wish the most, so having Latias, Jirachi, or Clefable ready can give Suicune a second chance.

Team Options
========
As mentioned, This Suicune set needs quite a bit of support. Above all else, this Suicune loves a grounded Poison-type that can absorb and set up Toxic Spikes, as they both cripple it and supports its stalling nature. Nidoqueen, Roserade, and even Qwilfish are great partners as they can cover either cover defensive holes in the case of Nidoqueen and Roserade Nidoqueen and Roserade are conventional options that cover defensive holes, while Qwilfish can take advantage of its offensive presence to set up the entry hazards or use Explosion on walls. Another valuable piece of support is changing the weather, as Suicune is much more effective with its Leftovers in tact actively healing it. This can be done on a dedicated rain team with Pokemon like Rain Dance Azelf, Uxie, Bronzong, Scizor, Latias, or Rotom-w, and Rotom-W or can be done with other weather clearers such as Sunny Day Flygon and Sunny Day Breloom. Suicune additionally enjoys lures and trappers to remove hard solid answers such as Roar Latias, Whirlwind Skarmory, and Encore Clefable. Pokemon working well here include Trick Iron Ball Metagross for Skarmory, Rotom-A, and Zapdos, Magma Storm + Explosion Heatran for special walls, Gengar, Choice Specs Latias for Breloom, and Magnezone. Additionally, Strong wallbreakers such as Choice Band Swampert, Life Orb Mixed Flygon, and Breloom work well here too.

This Suicune generally needs to be close to full HP and have the opposing team scouted for answers before it can sweep. As such, Suicune appreciates Wish and Healing Wish support from the likes of Latias, Jirachi, and Clefable if the opponents manages to force out Suicune after getting forced out. Additionally, since this Suicune cannot handle the defensive responsibility that offensive Suicune and CroCune have play a defensive role, one should have other good switch-ins to Fire- and Water-type coverage such as Latias, Roserade for Water-type attacks, and Heatran for Fire-type coverage. Along these lines, as Suicune is vulnerable to set-up from Water resistant threats like Gyarados and Dragonite, A strong revenge killer such as Choice Scarf Flygon or Choice Scarf Rotom-A can be quite helpful can handle Water-resistant sweepers like Gyarados and Dragonite. As mentioned above, Suicune can be best used alongside general rain sweepers such as Qwilfish and Kingdra, as these Pokemon force in Tyranitar, Hippowdon, and Abomasnow and hit them very hard. In addition, Qwilfish provides the Toxic Spikes removal Suicune needs while and Kingdra hammers answers to Water-type attacks with a Rain and potentially Choice Specs boosted Hydro Pump. Suicune also fits as a strong win condition cleaner alongside Roserade and Heatran in a Fire-Water-Grass core to bait in and remove counters as well as take advantage of Roserade's entry hazards.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

As mentioned, Suicune isn’t particularly blessed with a wide movepool and it is best to stick to the options above. However, Suicune has a somewhat shallow movepool but is powerful enough to make niche options viable. An example of this is Roar on the offensive Calm Mind set — Suicune can set up alongside Latias, Jirachi, and other Suicune and Roar phaze them out. This is particularly notable because Calm Mind + Roar Latias typically runs a speed slower than an is typically slower than invested Suicune. It Suicune can also use Roar to make up for the lack of Hidden Power Electric against boosted Gyarados, which is unlikely to use Taunt on a boosted Gyarados as it typically won’t Taunt Suicune out of fear of a super-effective attack. Suicune also can use Toxic on the offensive Calm Mind set to cripple Milotic or Swampert. Suicune has access to non-Calm Mind sets, running Roar over Calm Mind on the RestTalk set. However, these are extremely passive and struggle mightily against Breloom or anything that resists Water. Suicune also has access to other Hidden Powers than Electric can use other Hidden Power types, with Grass nailing Swampert and Quaqsire while still hitting Waters Water-types other than Gyarados or Fire for and Fire surprising Abomasnow. However, these are quite niche. Suicune also can change the weather itself on its Substitute set with Rain Dance over Protect or Ice Beam. However, this strategy still struggles against Encore Clefable while not giving additional help against Latias or and Breloom, among others. Suicune also can use Tailwind, Reflect, or even Mirror Coat to beat specific match-ups, but these are, at best, niche options that are not more useful than those listed above matchups but are therefore niche at best.

Checks and Counters
===================

There are very few Pokemon that can blanket check all of Suicune’s sets. Grass-types that are fantastic answers to CroCune for example mostly lose to +1 offensive Suicune’s Ice Beam. Strong special walls can easily lose to Substitute + Protect Suicune as well as and CroCune. As such, Suicune is often checked with multiple Pokemon.

However, all of the others need to be careful, as bulkless Roserade is OHKOed by Ice Beam after Stealth Rock from Ice Beam and can’t always OHKO guaranteed back with Leaf Storm without a boosting item or a Modest nature, Celebi needs a lot of Speed and a boosted Leaf Storm to KO back, Breloom cannot take boosted Ice Beam at all, and Shaymin needs to be careful of running out of Seed Flare PP.

**Sand Storm Stream**: While both Tyranitar and Hippowdon handily lose to Suicune, their Sand Stream ability negating Leftovers recovery makes it much harder to sweep with Suicune, as it really enjoys Leftovers recovery.

**Special Walls**: Both Clefable and Blissey are great initial switch-ins to Suicune. Clefable has Encore, (comma) which cripples Suicune, as well as Knock Off and Knock Off to cripple Suicune. Blissey completely walls offensive Suicune. However, Clefable is almost 2HKOed by +1 offensive Suicune at +1 and Blissey completely loses to CroCune and Substitute Suicune unless sand is up — both will eventually run out of Seismic Toss PP to CroCune and Substitute Suicune as long as Suicune still has its Leftovers recovery.

**Offensive Electric-types**: Zapdos, Rotom-A, Raikou, and even Jolteon can offensively check Suicune. Modest Choice Specs Zapdos notably OHKOes +1 offensive Suicune even at +1 SpDef with Thunderbolt after Stealth Rock in sand. However, they all struggle to take boosted hits from offensive Suicune and can eventually run out of PP against the Substitute + Protect set.

**Dragon-types**: Even though Latias, Dragonite, and Kingdra generally lose against Suicune's that has a boosted Ice Beam, they completely stop sets that rely solely on Surf. Latias also can paralyze offensive sets, remove less bulky sets with super-effective coverage, or use Roar out Suicune, while Dragonite and Kingdra hit Suicune hard with their Dragon-type moves.

**Water-types**: Water types such as Empoleon, Kingdra, Starmie, and Gyarados can check Suicune if it lacks Hidden Power Electric. However, they all mostly lose to the offensive Calm Mind set's Hidden Power Electric or in Kingdra’s case, Kingdra also fears offensive Ice Beam. Vaporeon and Quaqsire are completely immune to Suicune's Water-type moves and can cripple it with Toxic, Encore, or Roar. Milotic has access to Haze, although Suicune can PP stall it due to Pressure.

**Status**: Suicune despises Toxic Spikes. In addition, both poison and burn seriously cut into its longevity and force CroCune to use Rest earlier. Latias is a great way to force paralysis onto Suicune, as it typically outspeeds and has great defenses. If Suicune is paralyzed, Pokemon like Breloom and defensive Roserade as well as Celebi Breloom, defensive Roserade, and Celebi become better counters checks, as they can use Seed Bomb and 120 Power Grass Knot while avoiding getting OHKOed and 2HKOed by boosted Ice Beam, respectively STAB moves without fearing boosted Ice Beam.

Skarmory, Latias, Clefable with Encore, and defensive Zapdos do a good job of this.

**Residual Damage**: Another A common way to neuter Suicune is to chip it and revenge kill it with a Choice Scarf Pokemon such as Tyranitar, whose Stone Edge does 43.4 - 51.3%, Latias, whose Draco Meteor does 35.1 - 41.6% to +1 Suicune, or Flygon, whose Jolly Outrage does 42.5 - 50.4%. Entry hazards often do a good job of weakening Suicune to the point it can be revenge killed.

**Trick**: Tricking Giving Suicune a Choice item from Rotom-A, Latias, or Jirachi especially cripples CroCune and Substitute Suicune. However, one must be careful of a boosted offensive Suicune sweeping a weakened team with a +1 Hydro Pump.

[OVERVIEW]

Suicune has established itself as a staple in the DPP metagame DPP staple due to its prowess as a bulky sweeper. Its Water typing, awesome defensive stats, decent Speed tier, and access to Calm Mind allow it to be an enormous offensive threat while checking Heatran, Infernape, Swampert, Gyarados, Kingdra, Bronzong, and Metagross—threats (removed spaces around —) that are typically difficult to handle for the teams it is featured on. Suicune teams typically struggle to handle. It can also take advantage of defensive teams’ lack of strong answers to Water-types; counterplay; +1 offensive Suicune almost 2HKOes Clefable and Jirachi with Hydro Pump and 2HKOes everything else commonly used on these teams while also being one of the more difficult threats for hyper offensive and bulky offenses to beat. Suicune also has the bulk to act as an emergency answer to setup (collapsed hyphen) sweepers such as Gyarados and Dragonite, tanking a boosted hit and eliminating the threat.

Suicune also has a role as is also a good sweeper on defensive teams, with its Pressure ability and large high defenses allowing it to use Calm Mind multiple times and eventually sweep through defensive teams that can’t punish it while asleep or behind a 101 HP Substitute. Suicune is one of the better Substitute users in the game; the Substitute blocks threats such as it loves blocking status, Knock Off, Trick, and Explosion while also draining and can drain PP effectively with Pressure, especially in the case of against Seismic Toss. In a last Pokemon situation, Suicune has strong comeback potential, as it can no longer be phased phazed. Additionally, while Suicune has quite a limited movepool, it can effectively use options such as Protect to further drain PP with Pressure, Toxic to punish walls such as Milotic, and even Roar to win Calm Mind wars against Latias, Jirachi, and other Suicune.

Despite these positive traits, Suicune has some issues holding it back. It However, Suicune is vulnerable to all entry hazards—sets (removed spaces around —) without Rest struggle mightily against Toxic Spikes, and even with Rest, Suicune can get chipped easily if it is phased in forced in by phazing repeatedly with Stealth Rock and Spikes set.

Moves
========

Offensive Calm Mind Suicune is one of the most dangerous Calm Mind users in the metagame, taking advantage of its bulk to set up (was "setup") on Pokemon such as Heatran and Gliscor.

Hydro Pump is threatening even with no boosts, OHKOing bulkless Heatran after Stealth Rock. It additionally OHKOes Lucario with a Special Defense drop, 2HKOes most Metagross, and 2HKOes most Tyranitar without a Passho Berry. Ice Beam gives Suicune coverage against many Grass- and Dragon-types that threaten it, including Breloom, Latias, Roserade, and Dragonite, while also giving a super effective (removed hyphen) option against Zapdos. Finally, Hidden Power Electric threatens other Water-types, notably OHKOing bulkless Gyarados 75% of the time after Stealth Rock, combating opposing Suicune, (AC) and the ability to eventually beat and eventually beating Haze Milotic through PP stalling. This allows Suicune to, in an emergency, take a strong hit, (AC) such as Roserade’s and or Celebi’s Leaf Storm or Choice Specs Latias’s Draco Meteor, (AC) and come out on top. Another option over Hidden Power Electric is Protect, as a common answer to Suicune is to use Explosion on it with an Explosion from Passho Berry Heatran, Bronzong, or Metagross. In addition, Protect drains foes' PP, gives additional Leftovers recovery, and scouts moves such as Trick and Encore. However, missing coverage on Water-types like Gyarados, Milotic, Empoleon, and Starmie is huge a big loss.

Set Details
========

Suicune should be running a Timid nature most of the time. Suicune sits at a very valuable Speed tier, and it typically needs to invest fully or nearly fully in Speed to outspeed Heatran, Adamant Lucario, and Mamoswine. Additionally, Timid Suicune Speed outpaces defensive variants of Jirachi, Celebi, Roserade, Zapdos and Latias. However, as a lesser option, Modest allows Suicune some notable power benchmarks, such as a chance to 2HKO Clefable and specially defensive Jirachi after Stealth Rock at +1. Suicune can also sacrifice Speed and Special Attack to run more bulk, as, (AC) without Stealth Rock, it is normally very close to getting OHKOed by +1 Dragonite's Outrage and 2HKOed by +1 Gyarados. An example spread is 48 HP / 52 Def / 180 SpA / 228 Spe with a Modest nature, which hits a Leftovers number, takes maximizes Leftovers recovery, survives (I assume?) +1 Dragonite after Stealth Rock and one round of Leftovers, and outspeeds Jolly Breloom, Adamant Gyarados, and Adamant Dragonite.

Usage Tips
========

While offensive Calm Mind Suicune can sweep, it typically plays as an offensive team’s primary switch-in to Heatran, works as an emergency answer to answers Gyarados and Dragonite in emergencies, trades with threats such as Metagross, Swampert, and Infernape, and sets up early-game before sand is up to weaken answers to Water-types such as Latias and Roserade. Suicune should be ready to use Calm Mind immediately if the opposing Pokemon can’t threaten it effectively, as even Suicune's its checks can struggle against it if boosted. If Suicune has Protect, aggressively predicting Explosion, such as soon as one switches right after switching it in on non-Leftovers Heatran, can often pay dividends against opponents desperate to remove it.

Suicune really shines on bulky offensive Fire-Water-Grass Fire / Water / Grass cores, where it complements Pokemon like Heatran and Roserade on bulky offense teams. Suicune also appreciates a strong offensive Water-type alongside it, such as Empoleon, Kingdra, Choice Specs Starmie, or Swampert, to form a core to synergistically weaken checks to opposing Water-types. so both can synergistically weaken Water-type checks. Suicune appreciates a Ground-type or bulky Tyranitar (but watch out for sand) Tyranitar—but remember that sand weakens it—to absorb strong Electric-type attacks from the likes of Zapdos and Rotom-A. Effective Ground-types include Swampert, Nidoqueen to set up and absorb Toxic Spikes, Gliscor, and Choice Scarf Flygon can work alongside Suicune for this purpose. Suicune also appreciates Magnezone support, as bulky Steel-types (added hyphen) such as Jirachi, Metagross, Bronzong, and Skarmory can cripple Suicune with status, tank a hit, (AC) and use Explosion on it, or phase it out and force it to set up again. it or phaze it.

Offensive Suicune can fit on a variety of other archetypes too. Hyper offensive teams, such as those built around dual screens provided by Uxie, Azelf, or Cresselia, enjoy its strong power at +1 as well as it its ability to plug many defensive holes these teams typically have. Other Pokemon that can fit on these aggressive teams are Dragon Dance Tyranitar to help break through common (if you meant "checks they have in common", use "shared", but if you meant "frequent" then don't change) checks like Milotic, Dragon Dance Gyarados to form a strong Water-type offensive core, Life Orb Swords Dance Scizor to eliminate the Skarmory, and Dragon Dance Dragonite. Suicune can also fit on rain teams alongside other Water-types such as Empoleon, and it generally works well on offensive teams that want some added security against Dragon Dance users and Heatran.

Moves
========

Calm Mind also makes Suicune amazing in a last Pokemon situation, as it can set up (removed hyphen) without being phased out phazed. Surf is the only choice, viable attack, as this Suicune really needs the additional PP to handle Clefable, defensive Jirachi, Blissey, and Milotic. Despite lacking investment, Suicune’s Surf can still dent what it needs to, OHKOing Infernape after Stealth Rock, 2HKOing Heatran, and 3HKOing most Tyranitar. At +6, the only common threats Suicune can’t break through are defensive Celebi, Latias, and Milotic, though Breloom and Dragonite are especially are difficult to handle if Suicune hasn't gotten enough boosts to KO them. RestTalk is Suicune's only form of recovery, (AC) and status removal. This gives it some notable advantages — it but its status removal means Suicune isn't immediately crippled by Toxic Spikes, it can set up on status-inducing defensive answers such as Body Slam Jirachi, and isn't as affected by sand as other sets are.

Set Details
========

Suicune should always be running at least 401 HP if not maximum HP with this set. It minimizes the damage taken from Seismic Toss from Clefable or Blissey -- important if for Seismic Toss from Clefable or Blissey in case sand is up or Suicune takes Knock Off from Clefable. It also should be running a Bold nature to A Bold nature helps it survive its sleeping turns and be a blanket check to physical threats such as Metagross, Swampert, Infernape, and Trick Room Bronzong. However, Suicune can run more Speed, such as 16 EVs to outspeed Machamp and minimum Speed Rotom-A and 64 to outspeed Swampert and neutral nature Tyranitar. Additionally, it is possible to put all or some of the physical bulk into Special Attack and run a Modest nature. (added period) with a spread of 252 HP / 240 SpA / 16 Spe. This gives Suicune the ability to A spread of 252 HP / 240 SpA / 16 Spe lets Suicune significantly threaten defensive teams with a much stronger Surf against Scizor, Bronzong, Metagross, Clefable, and Jirachi. However, without a Bold nature, Suicune is more vulnerable to Explosion and takes more damage from physical Pokemon it is meant to help wall like Choice Scarf Flygon, Swampert, Machamp, Metagross, Infernape, and Tyranitar, especially if sand or entry hazards are set. This also makes it harder to get past bad Sleep Talk turns or survive to get another Rest off. (seems just a reason getting past bad sleep talk turns is important?)

Usage Tips
========

On the more defensive teams it is typically featured on, this This Suicune commonly plays as a more offensive version of Milotic, using its (removed apostrophe) resistances and Pressure to shore the team defensive teams up against strong threats, like Choice Band Gyarados, Swampert, Heatran, and Dynamic Punch (was "DynamicPunch") Machamp. However, Suicune is very vulnerable while using Rest, so one should not be careless with its health—it (removed spaces around —) should not be the only switch-in to these Pokemon. Suicune shouldn’t attempt a sweep while threats such as Breloom, Milotic, and Roar Latias are still active, as they will instantly stall any momentum Suicune it has. As Suicune is vulnerable to sand and really wants its Leftovers, care should be taken to it should avoid Clefable's and Gliscor’s Knock Off. If many entry hazards are set, Suicune will have trouble getting out of spamming Rest, so against Spikes stacking teams, opposing Spikes stacking teams mandate picking the correct time to wall a threat or set up is of utmost importance. Take advantage of this Suicune’s ability to shrug off status against Pokemon like defensive Jirachi to get multiple boosts.

Team Options
========

Defensive Calm Mind Suicune is commonly used as a late-game sweeper on defensive teams and really appreciates teammates that can mitigate its flaws: reliance on one attack, relative passivity, and vulnerability to Trick and Explosion. (replaced parentheses with colon) Suicune needs solid answers to Breloom as well as Haze Milotic and defensive Celebi. Forretress is a common choice on defensive teams, especially as Starmie and Tentacruel don’t fit well alongside this Suicune, (AC) and it provides Spikes support to wear down Suicune answers. In the event spinning is difficult, Suicune also enjoys a grounded Poison-type teammate to absorb Toxic Spikes. Roserade and Nidoqueen are solid choices that can set their own Toxic Spikes. They help with threats such as Milotic and Water Absorb Pokemon such as Quaqsire Quagsire and Vaporeon. While this Suicune is not as weak to sand as other Suicune sets, removing sand with choices like Rain Dance Bronzong, Rain Dance Cresselia, Rain Dance Uxie, Rain Dance Latias, Sunny Day Breloom, and even Sunny Day Flygon are all effective choices. Bronzong, Cresselia, Uxie, and Latias, or Sunny Day Breloom and even Flygon, is effective.

Calm Mind RestTalk Suicune also fits well with lures or trappers to remove its answers. For Skarmory, the gold standard is Magnezone, but other options like Trick Iron Ball Metagross and unexpected Fire- or Electric-type coverage on a Pokemon such as Tyranitar works well too. For Breloom, Dragon Dance Chople Berry Tyranitar fits well with its boosted Ice Punch. Additionally, options that absorb Breloom's Spore such as Choice Specs Sleep Talk Latias and Lum Berry Jirachi, (AC) as well as Metagross with Psychic-type coverage, (AC) are also effective. Other Tyranitar and Jirachi, such as those with Thunder Wave and Body Slam, (AC) respectively, also work well for helping check defensive Latias with Roar. Passho Berry Magma Storm Heatran can lure in Milotic and Clefable and offensively check Roserade, Celebi, and Rotom-A.

Moves
========

Substitute Suicune is strong setup sweeper that uses Pressure, Protect, and 101 HP Substitute Substitutes to quickly drain PP from moves like Seismic Toss and Thunderbolt. This is notable because Notably, teams often use low PP moves to counter Suicune, such as Clefable’s Encore, Roserade’s Leaf Storm, and Latias’s Draco Meteor. Substitute also protects Suicune from common ways to neutralize it such as status, Trick, Knock Off, critical hits, and Explosion while scouting opposing moves.

In addition to making Suicune such a threat, Calm Mind makes Suicune’s its Substitute very difficult to break by special moves, such as Timid Heatran's Earth Power. RestTalk Rotom-A’s Thunderbolt cannot break +3 Suicune's Substitute, and non-Life Orb Gengar's Shadow Ball cannot break +1 Suicune. Surf is the standard for Substitute Suicune due to its much greater PP, as Substitute and Protect allow Suicune to accrue many boosts. However, Hydro Pump can be used on more offensive sets, variants, particularly those that forgo Protect for Ice Beam or invest more in Special Attack instead of Speed. Protect is the standard to make makes further use of Suicune’s Pressure, but Ice Beam is very nice to prevent Roar Latias and Breloom from defeating Suicune and more quickly damage Ice-weak threats in general like Zapdos, Dragonite, and Roserade.

Suicune needs maximum HP for its 101 HP Substitute. Beyond this, there are a wide variety of many ways to EV this Suicune. To give The standard spread gives its Surf some power in case it can't set up very much, Modest 104 SpA is the standard. The remaining Speed lets Suicune outspeed any Tyranitar and also to set up on defensive Body Slam Jirachi without getting paralyzed. Some additional Speed EVs can be used to outrun faster (or did you mean "all"?) Jirachi as well. 196 Speed EVs and a Timid nature outpaces Adamant Lucario and can potentially prevent Thunder Wave from defensive Latias or Explosion from Heatran. Other Speed investments include 16 EVs to outspeed RestTalk Rotom and Machamp, 64 to outspeed neutral Tyranitar, and 228 to outspeed +Speed Jolly (i wouldn't expect breloom to run another speed-positive nature. or did you mean like "maximum"? or something else?) Breloom and Adamant Gyarados. The remainder can be put into Special Attack.

Usage Tips
========

Since this Suicune is much more of a dedicated sweeper than the offensive Calm Mind and CroCune other sets, it needs to be played carefully so that it doesn’t lose too much HP. How it plays depends on whether or not it has Protect. With Protect, try not to reveal Suicune until the opposing team is scouted for anything that could beat it. Suicune’s Protect + Substitute antics allows it to PP stall answers to it, but it absolutely must avoid status. With Ice Beam, preserving its health isn't quite as important, as typically it won't try to get higher than +1. For both variants, try to avoid setting up in sand or hail and eliminate Tyranitar, Hippowdon, and Abomasnow to make the most of Leftovers recovery. If Clefable directly switches into Suicune, try to stall with use Protect to PP stall Encore. This Suicune values Healing Wish the most, so having Latias, Jirachi, or Clefable ready can give Suicune a second chance.

Team Options
========
This can be done on a dedicated rain team with Pokemon like Rain Dance Azelf, Uxie, Bronzong, Scizor, Latias, and Rotom-W, or with Sunny Day Flygon and Sunny Day or Breloom.

As such, Suicune it greatly appreciates Wish and Healing Wish support from the likes of Latias, Jirachi, and Clefable after getting forced out. As mentioned above, Suicune can be best used is best alongside general rain sweepers such as Qwilfish and Kingdra, as these Pokemon force in Tyranitar, Hippowdon, and Abomasnow and hit them very hard. In addition, Qwilfish provides Toxic Spikes removal Suicune and Kingdra hammers answers to Water-type attacks with Hydro Pump. (this looks a bit weird without context. assuming you meant hydro and not another move, can you explain why that water type attack can hammer answers to water type attacks? is it a "shared checks" kinda thing" is it just so absurdly strong? etc etc) Suicune also fits as a strong cleaner alongside Roserade and Heatran in a Fire-Water-Grass Fire / Water / Grass core to bait in and remove counters as well as take advantage of Roserade's entry hazards.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Suicune has a somewhat shallow movepool but is powerful effective enough to make niche options viable. An example of this is Roar on the offensive Calm Mind set — Suicune can Roar on the offensive Calm Mind set lets it set up alongside Latias, Jirachi, and other Suicune and phaze them out. This is particularly notable because Calm Mind + Roar Latias is typically slower than an invested Suicune. Suicune can also use Roar to make up for the lack of Hidden Power Electric against boosted Gyarados, which is unlikely to use Taunt out of fear of a super-effective attack. Hidden Power Electric. (I assume?) Suicune can use Toxic on the offensive Calm Mind set to cripple Milotic or cripples Milotic and Swampert. Suicune has access to usable non-Calm Mind sets, such as (I assume?) running Roar over Calm Mind on the RestTalk set. However, these are extremely passive and struggles against anything that resists Water. Suicune can use other Hidden Power types, with Grass nailing Swampert and Quaqsire Quagsire while still hitting Water-types other than Gyarados, (AC) and Fire surprising Abomasnow. However, these are quite niche. Substitute Suicune can change the weather itself on its Substitute set with Rain Dance over Protect or Ice Beam. However, this strategy still struggles against Encore Clefable while not giving additional help against Latias and Breloom. Suicune can use Tailwind, Reflect, or even Mirror Coat to beat specific matchups but are therefore all are niche at best.

Checks and Counters
===================

However, all of the others need to be careful, as careful: bulkless Roserade is OHKOed by Ice Beam after Stealth Rock and its Leaf Storm can’t always OHKO back with Leaf Storm without a boosting item or a Modest nature, Celebi needs a lot of Speed and a boosted Leaf Storm to KO back, Breloom cannot take boosted Ice Beam at all, and Shaymin needs to be careful of running out of Seed Flare PP.

**Sand Stream**: While Tyranitar and Hippowdon handily lose to Suicune, their Sand Stream ability summoned sand negating Leftovers recovery makes it much harder to sweep.

**Special Walls**: Clefable and Blissey are great initial switch-ins to Suicune. Clefable has Encore and Knock Off to cripple Suicune. Suicune, and Blissey completely walls offensive Suicune. However, Clefable is almost 2HKOed by +1 Suicune and Blissey completely loses to CroCune and Substitute Suicune unless sand is up—both (removed spaecs around —) will eventually run out of Seismic Toss PP to against (or maybe youd prefer "for"?) CroCune and Substitute Suicune as long as Suicune still has its Leftovers recovery.

**Dragon-Types**: **Dragon-types**: Even though Latias, Dragonite, and Kingdra generally lose against Suicune's boosted Ice Beam, (since i removed kingdra from water types bullet, you can add a note that it also dislikes hp electric here. or not, you don't have to.) they completely stop sets that rely solely on Surf. Latias also can paralyze offensive sets, remove less bulky sets with super effective (removed hyphen) coverage, or phaze out Suicune, while Dragonite and Kingdra hit Suicune hard with their Dragon-type moves.

**Water-types**: Water-types (added hyphen) such as Empoleon, Kingdra, Starmie, and Gyarados can check Suicune if it lacks Hidden Power Electric. Kingdra also fears boosted Ice Beam. Vaporeon and Quaqsire Quagsire are completely immune to Suicune's Water-type moves and can cripple it with Toxic, Encore, or Roar.

**Phasing with Entry Hazards Down**: **Phazing with Entry Hazards**: As Suicune mostly doesn’t run Roar, forcing it to lose its boost via Roar or Whirlwind boosts via Roar, Whirlwind, or even Encore is a great way to wear it down. Making Suicune come in on Spikes and Stealth Rock while asleep and then forcing it out again is a common way for defensive teams to defeat it. Skarmory, Latias, Clefable with Encore, (if all clefable run encore, you don't need the "with encore" bc i mentioned encore as phazing option earlier, but if not clefable all do, then don't remove that bit) and defensive Zapdos do a good job of this. phaze it well.

Entry hazards often do a good job of weakening weaken Suicune to the point where it can be revenge killed.

**Trick**: Giving Suicune a Choice item from via Rotom-A, Latias, or Jirachi especially cripples CroCune and Substitute Suicune sets. However, one must be careful of a boosted offensive Suicune sweeping a weakened team with +1 Hydro Pump regardless.

[OVERVIEW]

Suicune teams typically struggle to handle. It can also take advantage of defensive teams’ lack of strong answers to Water-types; counterplay;

I felt it was important to emphasize the water-type rather than just counterplay -- dpp stall teams typically have just one maybe two water resists and a bulky special wall, and Suicune can help break those w beam and HP Electric. Do you think the wording makes sense?

(was "DynamicPunch")

For some reason ingame I remember it being referred to as one word, but since you and Cryo pointed it out (and I missed it w Cryo), I think y'all have it correct.

Set Details

Suicune needs maximum HP for its 101 HP Substitute. Beyond this, there are a wide variety of many ways to EV this Suicune. To give The standard spread gives its Surf some power in case it can't set up very much, Modest 104 SpA is the standard. Breloom and Adamant Gyarados. The remainder can be put into Special Attack.

Couple of things here: For the Jirachi point, I'm talking about speed creeping, since a lot of them run like 244 or 245 or a little higher. How would i mention this best here? Does the wording I used in the OP make sense? I also added EVs to all the numbers, is this standard practice? The Jolly point on loom is a good one

(this looks a bit weird without context. assuming you meant hydro and not another move, can you explain why that water type attack can hammer answers to water type attacks? is it a "shared checks" kinda thing" is it just so absurdly strong? etc etc)

So here, Rain boosted Specs Kingdra is absurdly strong, like 2HKOing soft water resists like offensive gyarados. What I was going for is you can just click Hydro w Specs Kingdra and open up a SubCune sweep as offensive teams trade large amounts of HP on the Suicune answers to not get run over by it, like on their weather inducers or like Breloom and Dragonite. thats what I was going for there. Does it make sense with that context, or should I add this part in?

Do you feel this was a slog to read through as written? After your and Cryo's GP check, I think it reads way better, but wanted to make sure. I also had no idea Quagsire autocorrected like that in Word. Thanks again!
