Project SS UU Victim Of The Week v2- Week 53: Darmanitan (Submissions)

:ss/Starmie:
Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Recover

Decided I'd use a check instead of submitting another counter like the rotoms. Anyway, Starmie's 3 attack set has risen to prominence lately as a scary wallbreaker, taking advantage of the Voltturn teams that have no switch-ins to it. Starmie OHKOs Moltres with Hydro but doesn't like to switch in, making it a check.

And now, its time to vote! Down below are the checks and counters submitted for this week

Gods I hate this battery so much. So very, very much. Still, votes this time like I promised. Yay.

Checks: Tentacruel and Starmie
Counters: Diancie and Suicine

Voting has finished! Congrats to GoldenSaiiber for winning the checks and Monky25 for taking runner up. Meanwhile, congrats to ExiDudi for winning the counters and scorbunnys for taking runner up. All of your submissions will be added to the Hall of Fame. Now, let’s introduce this week’s victim.
:ss/Venusaur:
Venusaur @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Growth
- Giga Drain
- Weather Ball
- Sludge Bomb

This week we have the frenzied plant venusaur! Sun teams have had a Huge resurgence after the ban of kommo-o, and venusaur is at the forefront of these teams as a dangerous sweeper, being able to outspeed nearly every Pokémon in the tier under sun and threaten them with its great coverage. How will you roast this weed? Submissions are due December 6 at 11:59 PM GMT-8. This is a double points week, so be sure to submit and score big. However, in order for your submission to count as a check/counter they must take on Venusaur WHILE SUN IS ACTIVE. Good luck!

reserving Hydreigon!

:bw/hydreigon:
Hydreigon @ Assault Vest
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Flash Cannon
- Fire Blast

With an AV, Hydreigon is able to live even +2 LO Modest Sludge Bomb and OHKO Venu back with Fire Blast

+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Venusaur Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Hydreigon: 253-300 (77.8 - 92.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Hydreigon Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Venusaur in Sun: 350-414 (116.2 - 137.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Chandelure @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hex
- Toxic
- Protect
- Flamethrower

Chandelure is a good check to Venusaur due to resisting its STAB attacks and immunity to Weather Ball. Heavy-Duty Boots lets it pivot in to and not be 2HKOed on the switch unboosted and survive a +2 Sludge Bomb from full.

Reuniclus @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 20 SpA / 240 SpD
Modest Nature
- Psyshock
- Future Sight
- Focus Blast
- Knock Off

Reuni is able to switch into venusaur and threaten it and it is able to regen its hp with regenerator to continually counter venusaur through the game. With Psyshock it guarantees ohko's venusaur after it attacks it a single time due to LO recoil, knock off can make venusaur even worse off against reuniclus as now even weather ball does not 2hko in sun. It can hard switch into growth, or any of its attacks and just threaten it out and this is a hard coutner

+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Venusaur Weather Ball (100 BP Fire) vs. 248 HP / 240 SpD Assault Vest Reuniclus in Sun: 231-273 (54.6 - 64.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Venusaur Weather Ball (100 BP Fire) vs. 248 HP / 240 SpD Assault Vest Reuniclus in Sun: 117-138 (27.6 - 32.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
20+ SpA Reuniclus Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Venusaur: 272-324 (90.3 - 107.6%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO

Moltres @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 88 HP / 168 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Flamethrower
- Hurricane
- U-turn
- Roost

Moltres is a strong check to Venusaur. It can't live a Sludge Bomb if Venusaur has set up a Growth, but if Venusaur has not set up yet it can take a Sludge Bomb comfortably and OHKO with Flamethrower.

252+ SpA Life Orb Venusaur Sludge Bomb vs. 88 HP / 0 SpD Moltres: 200-238 (58.3 - 69.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
168 SpA Moltres Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Venusaur in Sun: 404-476 (134.2 - 158.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Slowbro-Galar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 152 SpA / 104 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Future Sight
- Psyshock
- Sludge Bomb
- Flamethrower

AV Slowbro-G is a Counter to Venusaur as it can eat its STABS, while also tanking its coverage in Earth Power even at 2+, 252 Health, 104 SpD and the Calm Nature allow it to do so, It can KO Venusaur if hazards are up with its super-effective moves

+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Venusaur Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 104+ SpD Assault Vest Slowbro-Galar: 330-390 (83.7 - 98.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

152 SpA Slowbro-Galar Future Sight vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Venusaur: 300-354 (99.6 - 117.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
also 800th post on this thread yay

Chansey @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic
- Soft-Boiled
- Teleport

Chansey’s phenomenal special bulk and reliable recovery lets it serve as a solid counter to Venusaur, as not even +2 Sludge Bomb can 2HKO it after rocks, and in return Seismic Toss does around 33% to Venusaur in addition to wearing it down with Life Orb chip. Another thing to note is that when the last turn of Sun is up, you can just click Teleport and go into a teammate that can revenge kill Venusaur.

Calcs:

Chansey Seismic Toss vs. 0 HP Venusaur: 100-100 (33.2 - 33.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Venusaur Giga Drain vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 187-220 (26.6 - 31.2%) -- 32.8% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Venusaur Sludge Bomb vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 222-263 (31.5 - 37.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

Okay so I'm nominating gardevoir as a check. I found out about this yesterday but with trace and a speed boosting nature you outspeed Venusaur and OHKO it back with psyshock, it also only gets OHKOd by giga drain sometimes which could be useful but idt is considered here because it gets killed by anything else. Gardevoir is used atm and is actually pretty dangerous. Forcing Venusaur out in the sun can be huge advantage to it because it still gets the boost so it actually abuses Venusaur and unless the sun teams has hatterne they usually don't have something to answer it when it's locked into psyshock.
Here's the set
Gardevoir @ Choice Specs
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Psyshock
- Mystical Fire
- Trick

And here's some calc:
252 SpA Choice Specs Gardevoir Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Venusaur: 444-524 (147.5 - 174%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Life Orb Venusaur Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Gardevoir: 257-304 (92.7 - 109.7%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

Durant @ Life Orb
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- First Impression
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Crunch

Durant has a very good chance to OHKO Venusaur with First Impression, and sun being up has no bearing on this since First Impression has +2 priority. As a bonus, Durant is able to switch in on 2/3 of Venusaur's attacks, even after a Growth boost in sun, making it an excellent offensive check.

252 Atk Life Orb Hustle Durant First Impression vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Venusaur: 296-348 (98.3 - 115.6%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Venusaur Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Durant: 130-153 (50.5 - 59.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Durant is currently not ranked on the VR, so here are some replays to show it doing work, as required:

making a submission of my own now so I can still have something to submit lol
:ss/Nihilego:
Nihilego @ Black Sludge
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Power Gem
- Sludge Bomb
- Knock Off
- Stealth Rock

Pretty solid check to venusaur, you can eat a +2 giga drain while you 2HKO back with sludge bomb. Can't switch in as venusaur boosts up though, making it just a hard check. Nihilego in general is very valuable against the growing sun teams.
+2 252+ SpA Life Orb Venusaur Giga Drain vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Nihilego: 231-273 (64.1 - 75.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery
252 SpA Nihilego Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Venusaur: 144-171 (47.8 - 56.8%) -- 88.3% chance to 2HKO

Just wanna say that Chansey can't counter it at all because if it switches into a growth, Venu can just growth again and Chansey gets 2HKOd after that and because of that Venu just wins because it gets one free set up form the switch and another from Chansey not dealing enough damage.

+4 252+ SpA Life Orb Venusaur Weather Ball (100 BP Fire) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Eviolite Chansey in Sun: 372-438 (52.8 - 62.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

And here even if venu already ate one seismic toss

Chansey Seismic Toss vs. 0 HP Venusaur: 100-100 (33.2 - 33.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

The submission stage has concluded. Its time to vote! Since only 2 counters were submitted, that means both HydreigonTheChild and Arxtric win the counters for the week, getting two points each. Congratulations! So now, we'll only vote on the checks submitted below.
