Project SS NU Matchmaking: Week 23 - Sirfetch'd

togedemaru

:ss/Togedemaru:
Togedemaru @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 92 Def / 164 Spe

Jolly Nature
- Zing Zap

- U-turn
- Toxic

- Wish

:togedemaru: is an amazing partner for :gallade:, as it can check electric-types and flying-types like rotom, cramorant, and first and foremost the ever dangerous ninjask. This set allows togedemaru to check them consistently and to add onto that it can wish-pass some wishes to gallade, to further its potential as an amazing and fearsome sd-setup-sweeper. It can help with u-turn to bring it in safely and to better wish-pass to gallade. It can OHKO ninjask with zing zap and put rotoms on a timer with a toxic. With toxic it can help to break down walls for gallade as well, since they are being put on a timer, these walls are mudsdale and jellicent. Leftovers guarantee some longevity for it. And that spread allows togedemaru to check ninjask when it is at +2 due to swords dance. Gallade on the other hand can help togedemaru with troublesome pkmn such as stunfisk-galar, garbodor, and duraludon. All in all these two synergize well together and they can help each other out in a lot of rather difficult matchups.

Man and fox may not be together but hear my out, Choice Specs Thievul with SD Gallade gives you a setup-wallbreaker and a wallbreaker that both can help with each others' minimal weaknesses: Gallade is weak to Ghost-type attacks while Thievul is weak to Fighting-type attacks. Thievul can use Parting Shot to lower the opposing mon's Spa/Atk to help Gallade setup with SD or simply punish switches with Stakeout+Specs.

Ribombee

Ribombee

Ribombee @ Choice Specs
Ability: Shield Dust
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Trick
- Moonblast
- Psychic
- U-turn

Ribombee has to be my favorite Gallade partner in the tier at the moment. It can nuke its hardest check in Sableye and so many of the faster mons that threaten out Gallade, like Duraludon or the newly popular Thievul, while baiting in steel types for Gallade to throw off a strong CC or get up an easy SD. Trick can also give it so many more opportunities to set up, crippling more passive mons like Aromatisse or Clef, for easy set ups. Gallade Gallade also breaks through so many of Ribombee's threats, like steels and spdef Garbodor, with it's dual STAB, making them a fantastic 1-2 punch in the tier.

Ninjask @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 152 Def / 104 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Dual Wingbeat
- Protect
- U-turn
Ninjask is controversial pokemon atm. It really shines at cleaning up lategame and scouting/pivoting. Gallade appreciates every teampartner that can bring it in safely via U-turn. Ninjask is one of these teampartner. Additionally, Ninjask lures Steel types that give Gallade the opportunity to break through the opposing team. In return, Ninjask really appreciates Gallade's ability to break opposing bulky physical pokemon like Mudsdale or Jellicent to enable a late game sweep.

:Persian-Alola:
Persian-Alola @ Leftovers
Ability: Fur Coat
EVs: 248 HP / 44 Def / 216 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Parting Shot
- Toxic
- Taunt

Alolan Persian pairs really well with Gallade as it functions as a Knock Off switch-in, ghost resist, and because it can parting shot out into Gallade. Lowering the opponent's Attack and Special Attack by one stage increases the success rate of Gallade being able to set up.
Toxic and Taunt are useful utility to bring defensive Pokémon into range of Gallade. Taunt prevents bulky Pokémon from recovering and Toxic wears down things over time.
In short, Alolan Persian helps out Gallade through its complementary typing, ability to pivot into Gallade safely, and capacity to wear down bulkier things over time.

Vanilluxe @ Light Clay
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Aurora Veil
- Blizzard
- Freeze-Dry
- Taunt / Explosion

Who doesn't like Veil right? Especially when the mon it's protecting is LO SD Gallade. Turns out that Ice Cream here helps with stuff like Mudsdale, Cramorant, Fantom, and Ninjask (if healthy) among others that Gallade either struggles with or can't hit reliably. Gallade, in return, just drops Steel types that Ice Cream don't like facing if it has to. Enough said!

Alright, it's time to pick this project back up folks!!! According to my records, we're at Week 13 (3rd week into a new run) so let's get it...........

Week 13
The mon that needs some love this time around is..........
pangoro.gif

Pangoro @ Choice Band
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Gunk Shot
- Bullet Punch / Drain Punch

Since it's currently holiday season, I'll allow more time for submissions!

av fs bro

the Fun Havers Club

Slowbro-Galar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 172 SpA / 84 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sludge Bomb
- Future Sight
- Flamethrower
- Psyshock

AV Bro is a fantastic partner for Pangoro in my experience. It can switch in on almost everything that threatens goro, such as Fairies or Fighting moves. At the same time, it can consistently set up Future Sights for Pangoro, making Scrappy CC's almost impossible to wall in tandem with a Future Sight. Defensive Steels, Fairies, Psychics, or Dark types, who want to either come in on FS or on CC's, suddenly find themselves KOed or 2HKOed by the combo, creating a game warping scenario. At the same time, Goro acts as a crucial Ghost resist and it's Knock's open up huge holes in teams for FS or Sludge Bombs to put in work. Pair these two with pivots and a ground resist (I love Talonflame), and you have a threatening 1-2 punch that can mess up everything in the meta.

:ss/Roserade:

Roserade @ Black Slude
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpDef / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Spikes
- Sludge Bomb
- Sleep Powder
- Leaf Storm

Roserade is an incredibly underrated pokémon in the current SS NU metagame. With access to great Grass/Poison STAB to threaten common defensive cores, the rose is able to act as a great secondary breaker to aid Pangoro with their Fairy-type weakness while also appreciating the panda's ability to dismantle defensive Steel-types.
Furthermore, access to Natural Cure allows Roserade to sponge status for Pangoro and its natural bulk in conjunction with Grass-typing allows it to pivot into defensive Water-types's Scalds (such as Milotic).
Spikes chip damage also helps Pangoro break through fatter, stallier teams more easily while Sleep Powder gives a somewhat reliable momentum-grabbing option for the panda.

Talonflame @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Roost
- Will-O-Wisp
- Defog
- U-turn

Pangoro is an incredibly powerful wallbreaker, but it's deathly afraid of Fairy-types and can struggle to get onto the field safely. Enter Talonflame, who laughs in the face of Comfey and co. while getting Pangoro more opportunities to wallbreak via U-turn. Pangoro can destroy a majority of the popular Stealth Rock users as well, which makes it easier for Talonflame to keep hazards off the field.

:ss/Dragalge:
Dragalge @ Black Sludge
Ability: Adaptability / Poison Point
EVs: 252 HP / 124 Def / 132 Spe
Bold Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Bomb
- Flip Turn
- Focus Blast / Toxic Spikes
I am really enjoying pairing poison types that can gain momentum with CB Pangoro. Dragalge is one of these poison types. Sadly, most of the poison types stand in the shade of Galarian Slowbro. But Dragalge is a true threat you need to consider when building a team for the current NU meta. Due to its special bulk it can still act as a check to fairies like Comfey and Sylveon and it can pivot on the incomming steel types that check Dragalge for Pangoro to abuse.
One of the main benefits I figured poison types have over psychic types like Celebi and Starmie is that fast fighting types like Mienshao don't run coverage specific for poison types (Knock Off and U-turn both threaten the aforementioned Psychic types) and it allows for safer switching after Pangoro claimed a kill and pivoting. Adaptability turns Dragalge into a breaker itself as it boosts the immense power of Draco Meteor. Poison Point is a fun tech too, if you really want to punish U-turn pivots like Talonflame and Mienshao. Toxic Spikes is a bit more situational due to Galarian Slowbro having such high usage and easily absorbing the Toxic Spikes. Focus Blast is coverage for steel types and Porygon2 which allows for more breaking power if Pangoro is dead or you just feel like being extra safe.

reserving celebi

:rs/celebi:
Celebi @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature

- Nasty Plot
- Giga Drain
- Psychic
- Aura Sphere

:celebi: is a great teampartner to pangoro as it covers up the fighting weakness pangoro has, and celebi can further pressure the opposing team offensively with its nasty plot + 3 attacks set coupled with a life orb to maximize the damage output it'll do. giga drain ehre is the first stab-option and the stab-option of choice as it doesnt only dish out damage, but also gives celebi some health back, especially after a nasty plot-boost it can gain a good chunk of health back, and it threatens starmie, inteleon, and milotic very well. psychic is the 2nd stab of choice as it hits a plenty amount of pokemon, which otherwise tank pangroros fighting-type stabs, such as sylveon, garbodor, and weezing. furthermore aura sphere hits a decent amount of pokemon too like silvally-steel, copperajah, and porygon-z as the former 2 absorb the grass- and psychic-coverage with ease.

in return pangoro can put pressure on the aforementioned steel-types and on porygon 2, as porygon 2 just can tank away celebis hits. pangoro can also put pressure on cresselia, as cresselia can act as a roadstop to celebi with its high natural bulk. pangoro has the option to revengekill setup sweepers such as tyrantrum when they are weakened beforehand with its coverage in bullet punch. furthermore pangoro can deal with ghost- types such as dhelmise and deciduye pretty well as they can't come in due to its ability in scrappy.

in overall these 2 compliment each other really well and make up for great partners as they offensively put pressure on a decent chunk of pokemon in the neverused-tier.

Toxtricity @ Choice Specs
Ability: Punk Rock
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Boomburst
- Volt Switch
- Overdrive
- Sludge Bomb

I find this to be a good teammate for Pangoro. It is able to take a hit against the Fairies that can ruin Pangoro and cover the pesky Flying-types for it as well. Since Toxtricity is such a threat in the meta game, you need to take measures for building things against it and others. Pangoro can deliver blows to Ghosts such as Palossand, Haunters, and does well against Copperajah, while being able to switch in fairly safely with Toxtricity’s Volt Switch. Overall, these two work well together as they can offensively check most of their checks and counters.

EVs: 232 HP / 212 Def / 64 Spe
Bold Nature

This pup got no love, even before the fall of rain. It’s main noche is being a direct check to Bewear, one of the only in the tier. Being able to switch in to multiple Double Edge’s and scare it out with a strengthened Flamethrower. It also baits in many bulky waters which annoy Panda, such as Milotic or Vaporeon, hitting them with a Toxic. The best reason though, is because in my experience, Sylveon users believe they can out stall Arcanine, attempting to Wish up on it only to eat a Toxic to the face. Criminally underrated mon, and a good partner to Panda, proceeding to put Pangoro’s checks on a timer, and also switching into offensive Pokémon which threaten it like Bewear and Mienshao. Yeah it hates boots being knocked off, but it still manages without it. Good partner for Pangoro.

EVs: 252 Atk / 172 SpD / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Heavy Slam
- Heat Crash
- Power Whip
- Stone Edge

Quite surprised no one took this elephant yet, so I will lol. Capper Raj switches into and pesky fairies that Pangoro doesn't like facing. For some reason, I didn't include Parting Shot in the last slot for Pangoro but it can work to slow pivot right into this thing and beat the fairies senseless. Capper Raj and Pangoro do share a Fighting weakness but that's what the other 4 teammates are for silly!
