SS National Dex Discussion Thread
This thread is dedicated to the discussion of the SS National Dex metagame. Discussion topics span from such things as metagame developments, set innovations, and general observations you have noticed as of late. You are welcome to post anything you like as far as the metagame goes, with a few simple rules.

Rules:
  • Do not ask simple questions here; instead, post them to our Simple Question, Simple Answer thread.
  • Do not post one-liners that contribute nothing to the discussion. We do not ask that you write giant paragraphs with each post; we simply ask that you ensure your post has substance and adds to the discussion.

Here are some prompts to help guide your thinking:
  • What are your personal favorite Pokemon to use in the metagame, and why?
  • What current cores do you find to be strong or fun to use?
  • Do you like the current metagame, or find it to be well balanced? Why or why not?

Remember that at any point, moderators have the discretion to intervene or remove posts as necessary

Tangela is incredibly powerful and needs more recoginition because of its synergy with Toxapex + Blissey, leaving three slots open in your team for the potential for a more balanced stall team
Toxapex is very allergic to physical ground and electric moves despite its physcial bulk, but Tangela checks these (earthquake is VERY common in gen8 natdex)

Ordered until the C ranks

S
1. :landorus-therian: Landorus-T

S-
2. :heatran: Heatran
3. :kartana: Kartana - best breaker in the tier helped by magnezone being way down, most teams can barely afford > 1 check and always gets value
4. :gliscor: Gliscor - an unfair pokemon

A+:
5. :toxapex: Toxapex
6. :weavile: Weavile
7. :ferrothorn: Ferrothorn
8. :slowbro: Slowbro - hot take but I think slowbro is top 10, it checks so much from medicham to gliscor while not being as passive as smth like reuni and also not weak to pursuit (weav knock does around 60 to z bro and even less to colbur so the "50/50" barely pops up") and supports its teammates so well. I don't really use slack off much, personally moves like twave, bpress, ice beam, toxic etc. alongside the classic futureport works best
9. :latias-mega: Mega Latias - not the top 5 mon I put it as last year, still good
10. :diancie-mega: Mega Diancie - breaks everything
11. :charizard-mega-x: Mega Charizard X - actually breaks fucking everything
12. :clefable: Clefable

A
13. :lopunny-mega: Mega Lopunny
14. :greninja: Greninja - not as high on this mon as other people, personally I feel most times banded vile is hard to pass up on as a fast dark for its increased utility, matchup against offense is crazy tho
15. :tapu-koko: Tapu Koko - see above
16. :tapu-lele: Tapu Lele - sometimes an unfair pokemon
17. :melmetal: Melmetal
18. :kyurem: Kyurem - bulky z sets shld be explored more
19. :volcarona: Volcarona - have these 2 ho guys rounding out the top 20, I personally wldn't see these as better than the guys above but they have a very well defined niche and propels the cheese archetypes the hardest
20. :serperior: Serperior
21. :medicham-mega: Mega Medicham - slowbro is so good sry
22. :mawile-mega: Mega Mawile - does this mon rly exist in ssnd nowadays? have it here more out of respect than anything

A-
23. :zapdos: Zapdos
24. :rotom-wash: Rotom-Wash
25. :tapu-fini: Tapu Fini
26. :urshifu-rapid-strike: Urshifu-RS
27. :garchomp: Garchomp
28. :chansey: Chansey - not a stall 1trick
29. :victini: Victini
30. :scizor-mega: Mega Scizor - gatekeeps the a ranks quite well, probably has the most mus where it just flops but can also be the most horrible thing to break ever, esp for kyurem-based teams

B+
31. :tyranitar-mega: Mega Tyranitar - gatekeeps the b ranks similarly, sand fat is in an awk state cuz u can't really handle both lele and kart simultaneously, most sand bos r good tho
32. :corviknight: Corviknight - remember when ppl thought this was shit? turns out bulky pressure fog against defensive landorus-t is good, best enabler for zardx balance which has more room for exploration but is probably broken
33. :reuniclus: Reuniclus
34. :greninja-ash: Ash-Greninja - holy fall off
35. :gastrodon: Gastrodon
36. :skarmory: Skarmory
37. :manaphy: Manaphy
38. :swampert-mega: Mega Swampert
39. :pelipper: Pelipper
40. :charizard-mega-y: Mega Charizard Y
41. :rillaboom: Rillaboom - grassy terrain balance will always have unavoidable flaws (kyurem, lele). still a great tool for players to add to their repertoire

B
42. :excadrill: Excadrill
43. :slowking-galar: Slowking-G - not a shitmon, np z sets r good, u just can't make a habit out of bringing this
44. :magnezone: Magnezone - whoops
45. :dragonite: Dragonite
46. :cresselia: Cresselia - probably the most unfair mon in the tier if it gets its matchup, u just really cant make a habit out of bringing this
47. :aegislash: Aegislash - ho and stall only don't use it anywhere in between
48. :blaziken: Blaziken
49. :ditto: Ditto
50. :latios-mega: Mega Latios - decent once in a blue moon, really really don't make a habit out of bringing this

52. :kommo-o: Kommo-O - can compress some valuable things

B-
