Postgame Q&A:
MVP:
Alice, definitely didn't deserve to lose and especially didn't deserve for her allies to stab her by letting Celever win over ElectricityCat for absolutely no reason. Probably should not have chosen to help people who didn't share her win con, a lesson I learned the hard way in Wayne Bradier many, many years ago.
Laziest / Memeiest Winner: Celever, built 7 Forcefields and just sat the entire game. I do not think his build was good but cannot argue with the results, clearly he is operating on another level.
Unluckiest: Poor aska got immediately randed by everything under the sun and died before getting to do anything.
What would I change in the system: Spies were too weak, everyone who went for a spy build lost. Part of this was that those players were a bit too open about sharing their info, but mostly it was because Spies needed to actually do something later in the game. In Space War 4 the only system change I would make is causing successful Spies to lower Personnel (similar to how EMPs lower Forcefields) on the affected ship, combined with a mastery option that will give an upgrade point for every four or five unique ships inspected (so that Spy builds actually have growth options).
Were the win conditions a problem: You could argue back and forth, we had a weird number of signups and I am fine with rewarding proactivity by forcing people to kill their enemies before their enemies win. I'm less fine with the people who got rewarded by simply sitting back with good win conditions, waiting for others to do their jobs for them. I will certainly re-evaluate the win conditions setup in Space War 4.

Finally, this game is very easy to host but I wanted to gauge whether players actually liked it. We could make this a semi-recurring thing (like Diplo, though not constantly running since there are other non-mafia games out there too) if there is interest since the mechanics literally wouldn't change, and I was happy with the activity levels (almost nobody idled). Would appreciate a simple rating like 3.5 / 5 stars, would sign up again but not dying to (as an example).

Thanks all for playing!

i was really sad to get into a situation where alice lost because it was really obvious she played the best all game but we kind of backed ourselves into a corner with the me/LN/alice group chat where winning was logistically very difficult without being forced to make one of us lose. we came kinda close, but i guess i felt a bit less surprised than LN was when cycle 8 didn't go exactly as planned. arguably it was a fool's errand trying to set up such a difficult wincon in the first place, but we had been working together for so long that i wanted to prioritize it as much as possible up until the last cycle of the game.

it didn't help that alice took a long time to get going because of her spy build, and i was taking a while to get going because i never took damage- that's a good problem for me to have personally, since at no point in the game was i at risk of losing, but it meant i was often just doing chip damage to help other people rather than having a fully self-sufficient build. i would rather have at least followed her wishes and shot celever than ecat, but LN thought killing celever would be too risky. i didn't really feel like arguing about it, and i certainly didn't want to get into some sort of disaster situation that locks out BOTH of them from a possible win, so whatever. (i didn't personally talk to either of them almost at all). zorbees floated this F4 as a possibility on like cycle 5 or something, and i overall didn't play directly towards it, but didn't want to get myself into a spot where, if LN or alice died, i had put myself into a spot where i couldn't win. i think zorbees played pretty good with how he maneuvered himself into a great position to win in the later cycles, as well

shoutouts to LN and alice, by far the two people i talked to about the game the most and overall played extremely well, and again, sorry to alice. i certainly could have been more of a go-getter this game myself, although being in the position where i basically just pissed nobody off because i established some early contact and acted pretty chill worked out for me since i never took any damage through a combination of having the right friends, keeping low, and yes, a good deal of luck.

would i play again? i think i would at some point, although i don't have a burning desire to do so in the near future. the game ran a bit long due to deadlines, but i had fun and i enjoyed that it was quite strategic without feeling overly complicated. ideally we would've had the same number of all win conditions, but it wasn't a huge problem. and i agree that spies would be served to be a bit better and several of the other balance discussions being had in the circus discord. i'd give it an 8/10 or so

think that's all i got. gg!

the earlygame (other than me losing a ship, although this wasn't the worst thing in the world due to the upgrade points) could not have gone better for me imo. aska, skipper, and aura guardian dying made it very easy for me to slide into a group with LN and ria and focus on eliminating the earlygame colors, with the idea that the other lategames would be eliminated if two game colors won. It was sad in a way because I was trying to work with Aura and Skipper a little bit early on but communicating with them was a bit rough (not blaming them, some was my fault, some was just us not being available at the same times) but it ended up working out for me.

Had to eliminate Mewtwo and Mew so the newly minted uber Machamp could reign supreme :)
