Finals Smogon Premier League XVI - Finals [Won by Congregation of the Classiest]

Ngl feeling real emotional about this one, absolutely unexpected but means the world. Fantastic fantastic team environment from day 1 that was engaged and active throughout, met a lot of cool new people and also starry. I talked after SCL last year with Excal about how winning a second time had made me hungry. One can be a fluke but two made it feel much more possible to keep doing it. Insane that it happened as early as this though, I was prepared to strap in for the long haul.

I won't do individual shoutouts because I'm lazy and also cuz I can just talk to everyone who contributed to this victory and say how much all of y'all mean to me, but if there was one person I'd have to go with Leng. I know I was frustrating to work with a lot of the time and prone to laziness but I'm eternally grateful for you helping me so so much throughout this tour and never losing faith.

Playing 12 hour ladder sessions a day is long behind me, but as someone who's always felt like I lacked natural talent and had to grind for each and every victory, there's no better feeling than seeing it pay off in the end. I would've been happy to just play a single game this tour, so while I think my record could've been a bit better, I can't complain. I just really never thought I'd be here, and winning SPL with this genuinely fantastic group makes it all the sweeter.

Huge congrats to the Classiest on their win, great season from start to end!

Knew never predicting against sinnoh would pay off. Wanna give a huge shoutout to the content team and everyone who's made videos on this year's SPL it's been hype following along and I think everything surrounding this year's SPL as well as the tournament being tight really made it a great SPL.

Can't wait to see how the content surrounding the major tours gets better.

GGs to the Tigers this series could have gone either ways. Massive props to Roro and ho3n for clutching two decisive wins in back-to-back tiebreaks, definitely a performance for the ages.

Nothing to be proud of in terms of individual performance on my end, between a lackluster regular season and playoffs filled with frustration, the season felt really long for me and my general lack of motivation was pretty apparent. Even if I was extremely unfortunate in playoffs I could’ve done better in many ways. If i'm being honest i don't feel legitimate to say that i won this tour.

Huge thanks to donut expulso and starry for trusting me, and congrats on building one of the strongest, coolest and most enjoyable groups I’ve had the chance to play with. Nothing but good vibes and fun interactions during these 13 weeks, you were all amazing.

Special shoutout to starry, I'm not gonna lie before this tour i thought you were a massive clown. Whether I was wrong about you or you've genuinely changed for the better doesn't really matter, you’ve been an impeccable manager.

It’s time for me to fully close the Smogon chapter (once i'm done with RBY Wcop) and put an end to what’s been a very fun ride since I came back in 2019. This might not be the best way to go out, but I’m fine with that and I'm proud with what I accomplished here.

It's been a pleasure, wishing you all the best.

I already made my big post here, but I wanted to make an acknowledgement here since that one was just SV OU related.
I won't do individual shoutouts to teammates bc I'll keep that to the server and y'all know how much of a good time this tour was even if it dragged on. However, I'd like to write a little bit about what this win means to me.

I started playing mons online in 2013. I won't say competitively because that is far from what I was doing at the time, which was mostly just goofing off in OMs and XY UU. Still, at that time I was vaguely aware of this tournament and the big names that made it so prestigious. I never thought that it would be something I could aspire to playing in, much less winning. I stopped playing around the time SM came out, as other interests overtook this one, and didn't pick the game up again in any real capacity until SV.

When SV rolled around, however, I had a completely different outlook on this hobby. I had competed in other strategy games, namely card games, and loved the challenge of building to a metagame and executing on a plan that you had made meticulously. I remembered the nuance that Pokemon had, with myriad options that no card game could ever hope to offer me, and I gave it a shot. I loaded up ladder with some bullshit HO with 5 brokens and my favorite Breloom and made it pretty high on the ladder. I was instantly hooked, and continued cooking and searching for what the big names were using. The first SPL I followed was SPL XIV, and I remember following the Sharks SV especially.

While the nitty-gritty, competitive side of the game hooked me, what kept me around were the people. I was first friendly with the folks in the OU Room on PS! and had friendly rivalries with quite a few of them. I especially remember sufys and I coming up together on the OU ladder, and while he eventually found his place in lower tiers, I will always think of him as a top-tier OU grinder. I'd also like to shoutout njnp and Storm Zone for being the top players that were first to recognize me and take me on as a protegé. You both taught me so much about this game, especially how to take my innate drive and creativity and translate that to understanding and functional skill. njnp especially was so important to my growth and development as a player by introducing me to the US South roster and letting me sit on the sidelines for his managing ventures in SCL and SPL with the Wolfpack and Cryos. Those were so invaluable to me you have no idea. While I wasn't quite ready to take on the top level talent of those tours, I took those opportunities to sponge up every bit of insight I could from your players, namely Finchinator and Mind Gaming.

There was a huge period of grinding between that and my first official appearance, and that's what I want to highlight to anyone watching from the sidelines that thinks I came out of nowhere at the start of SV. I kind of did, and while I definitely applied my understanding of other strategy games to this one, I spent way more time than was healthy initially trying to better myself in this hobby. If you want to become an SPL-level player, know that the most important things are repetition and reflection. Both of those things take time. Be patient with yourself and don't sacrifice other areas of your life like I did.

Here's mass shoutouts for people that got me here:

Dave TPP hellom and the rest of US South; 3d, Maia , olivia , and the rest of the Flock; JUST ONE GALATINA and Empo ; Spell; Vert ; Nat; cala_aa Shaymin Sky Duckular quacc sire clod Espathra Dreaming and the rest of gender; Pinkacross ; LOOR

I'm sorry if I forgot anyone. Writing this between schoolwork and work work.

Finally, I know I said I wouldn't do teammate shoutouts, but I want to thank my managers, especially Expulso, for taking a chance on me. I know I wasn't at the right level 6 months ago, but your guidance really helped push me over the edge into someone that can hold her own at the top.

Also fuck you if you think this is cheesy or over the top.

You're gas lengers will always be there

It sucks losing after coming so far, but I'm very proud of my teammates. I apologize severely for my lack of performance. I already posted my thoughts here, but basically I am disappointed at myself for going 6-5 after a dominating ORAS year. Med school time constraints are very real though, and I can take the silver lining of me going positive despite being so busy I couldn't prep some weeks, and making it finals with the help of my team, all within my first SPL.

Thank you xray for being my best friend on this site and my support, Noname, and a huge one to Paprikaflow for all the help during SPL. Huge thank you to managers z0mOG and M Dragon for drafting me and believing in me. In trusting me despite it being my very first SPL. For being understanding of my occasional stubbornness and yet still being nice and encouraging. Thank you to my teammates, particularly Ox the Fox, c0mp, Storm Zone and 3d for being peak chill, vibe preservers, and elite friends. Huge insane s/o to Don Eduardo and baddummy for being absolute goats. Everyone else was amazing too, all of JJ09LIE DugZa Christos, Sergio Aguero, shiloh, devin. It was an honor to be your teammate, and it would be another honor to team again in the future. Thank you for your patience and trust.

Lots of things went awry for me at the cusp of SPL, but I'm still happy for the journey. This tour is a different beast and I am excited to take what I learned forward to WCoP and next SPL. If you want to follow my journey, feel free to click on the links below in my signature.

Congrats to the classiest, you guys deserved it.
Peace

Alright I guess I gotta write one of these.

Going into the draft, I was coming off of a devastating SCL Finals defeat in which we lost 0-6. My team of scrappy new "mainers" was a ton of fun, and people synergized well + did a great job all season, but everything went wrong in the end. Therefore, we wanted to purposefully build a lineup fit for tiebreak in this tour. We ended up with McMeghan + BIHI for that purpose, along with Kate to complete the Dynamos core. We generally had a lot of experience throughout the lineup, which is partially a function of how SPL works as a whole. It's pretty hard for newcomers to break in here, especially in all the gens that aren't SV OU. I was frustrated by this myself when I wanted to be drafted for DPP / ADV. Somewhat hypocritical, but I hope that managers are more open to recognizing new talent in the old gens, as that's one of my few regrets from the tour.

At the behest of starry and d0nut, we also decided to go cheap in SV OU. In our eyes, there's a deep pool of talent in SV OU, which is the most-played tier on Smogon. You see breakouts here every year; hellom went 10-1 as a 5k, Fusien won OST this year while barely getting drafted, and JJ09LIE and Myjava went from ~3k SPL to 20K SCL in months. Making this decision was difficult because you need to get a tiebreak-quality SV player, since it will be in any tiebreak, and you need to raise your floor in a slot that makes up 1/3 of the whole tour. Fortunately, having 10-0 Piyu for 3k in SCL did reassure me that you can get a TB player without a huge investment, so we were willing to trust one of our cheaper buys to pan out if needed. Ho3n fell into our laps last minute... we were relatively broke and had a max bid of 6k when we nominated him, and I expected we'd have to use it all and probably still couldn't get him. With that buy, though, our tiebreak core was complete.

Of course, drafting for playoffs came with the corollary of not drafting for regular season. The first few weeks of any season are really make-or-break. In SCL, I was a newer manager who drafted a bunch of lesser-known players and got a 20-man army then got ranked near last in all the PRs/community consensus. I knew if we didn't play well from the beginning, players could easily get very pessimistic about our team -- putting in less effort, killing the vibes, etc. (As a side note, it's a testament to the strength of z0mOG and the Tigers that they bounced back from an 0-2 start and a player allegedly cancering, circumstances that could easily kill a less resilient team. You guys were exceptional finals opponents and would have also been very deserving winners.)

We put up a very strong win in Week 1, winning 7-4 despite our 2 priciest players both losing, which I like to think inspired them and showed them how high our ceiling can be. Nobody wants to have to carry the team, even leng loi, and I think we had a very balanced squad that all lifted each other up when we needed it. After struggling in regular season, Dice and Kaz both went 2-0 in playoffs with season-saving wins in semis and finals respectively. Leng carried SV building for huge stretches of the tour, but the SV players were able to become more self-sufficient and relieve that burden when needed. In classic gens, our core of McM+BIHI+Dice were all willing to support each other and provide feedback across gens 1-5.

After a week 2 tie to the Cryos (which, frankly, could have easily been a loss if pj was less lucky (noob) (it's all about respect)), we were at a big crossroads week 3. We were down 5-3 to the Sharks, and a loss would send us right into the middle of the pack with basically every other team in the tour. Even a tie would leave us significantly behind the red-hot Ruiners. However, the team was able to somehow win the week, getting 4 consecutive wins in SS, ORAS, BW, and SV. After a dominant win in Week 4, we had 7 points in 6 wins, but still had to eke out important week-deciding games. Week 6, McMeghan came through in a 250-turn struggle vs Sadlysius at his 3AM to secure a 6-6 tie. Week 7, Ho3n somehow defeated a Cinderace with veil to secure a 7-5 victory over the Ruiners. In Week 8, Ho3n came back again, looking completely in control despite wielding a truly bizarre team against the future OST champion to secure the 12th point that clinched playoffs in the eyes of even the most paranoid spectators (me).

This team proved to be absolutely stone-cold CLUTCH in the face of every possible obstacle. In the regular season, we had what I count as ... 8 games with points on the line? We won 7 of them, losing only to Ms. Crying Cryos.

In semifinals, we were down 6-3 to the Tyrants. While you can never blame games 100% on luck, we had some very unfortunate circumstances: Tace lost on a Leaf Storm dodge 1 turn before winning, and Ho3n missed a Scale Shot that gave him a ~71% chance to KO and win. While these were much less bad, a choke let McMeghan mount a heroic comeback that was immediately thwarted by a Rock Slide miss, and pj could never get back into it after a Mega Zam crit in a fast-paced offense mirror. It certainly felt like our wins were dominant beatdowns while our losses were just out of our grasp; nothing went our way, yada yada. We would have to win 3 straight games to get a comeback, relying on our 2-5 RBY player and facing 2 of the Tyrants' retains, including BW Soulwind. Somehow, incredibly, we did. In RBY Kaz went insane, pulling off the famous /offertie incident and winning an intense set after a four hour prep call the day or 2 before. LpZ prepped and piloted flawlessly vs Mada, getting a clinical victory vs stall to bring it to 5-6. Dice's game vs Soulwind is probably the most memorable game I'll ever watch. We played dozens of test games only for Dice to immediately miss the first move he clicked, then get his HP Ice Lando KOd by a crit. But somehow, he kept it steady, lured Gliscor with Explosion Ferrothorn (?!?), and pulled off a sick endgame sweep with the Garchomp that got Tricked t1. I'm too lazy to write about semis tiebreak, but the boys were super clutch despite the back-breaking misfortune in DPP, yada yada.

In finals, we went down 0-3! At this point I was 0-9 in team tour finals, which is insane. Thankfully pj got us started with an absolutely critical win and we crawled back into it, winning 3 straight to tie the series up and ping-pong back and forth until the end. After getting Carapinga'd at 6-5, the Tigers had all the momentum going into tiebreak. We were putting in only players that lost in finals (LMFAO) and picking into their 9-2 ADV OU player. This was definitely one of the most-discussed tiebreak decisions ever, which is a testament to the Tigers' strength; their lineup was extremely difficult to target, with a whopping 7 7-win players by the end of it. However, after going down 1-0, Ho3n and McMeghan were able to win 2 more must-win games -- bringing the team's record in those "clutch" situations to a ridiculous 13-2.

SHOUTOUTS AT LAST:

S1nn0hC0nfirm3d: despite you shitting on me becoming our reoccurring bit for all of playoffs I am so happy we got you. I think you have a great mentality for the game, not giving a fuck is genuinely a huge strength in-game and in your relationship to mons generally LOL. You were very self-sufficient which helped take a load off all the other slots, were open to feedback/suggestions, and could have honestly won even more games if you played all your games at home on a laptop like a boring person. Despite being busy you constantly grinded which I know took a lot of sacrifice and I really appreciate the insane effort you put in. And the results in clutch time, despite what the podcasters say, were genuinely amazing. You secured the week for us like 4 times and WON US THE ENTIRE TOUR!!!!!!! I hope u can have as much fun with your next bullying victim if I don't do this next year. Looking forward to watching the Sopranoes at last.

McMeghan: Congratulations and thank you so much. Nobody sacrificed more for this tour than you. You willingly took on an insane sleep deficit, the tremendous stress and pressure of 2 tiebreaks in ADV OU after losing in the series before, and put time in to help out damn near every slot and lift morale every time we were in trouble. You were also absolutely 1 of the funniest people in our incredible team chat -- you were a huge part of why this tour was so fun for me and kept me motivated to work for you guys. You were truly an exceptional teammate, the best possible big buy, and the centerpiece of the amazing run we've had. It was also so funny giving u shit for [REDACTED] all season long LOLOL even though we all collectively memed on like 2/3 of this team you were particularly fun to fuck around with so thanks for being a good sport about that too.

Groudon: GOAT!! Unlike fraudulent ass starry blanket I genuinely believed in you, as our starting DPP player, from day 1. You had a great mentality in our test games and started us off with 2 huge wins this season. Despite running into some difficult matchups later on I had very few complaints about how you played all season long -- your mix of aggressiveness and patience led you to play the tier pretty much optimally every time. Truly lived up to your title as the 3rd-most-winning DPP player of all time. It's sick that the tour stirred up a passion to run it back next year. You were also a fucking incredible chat presence LMAOOO you/kh/pj are so fucking funny with your single shared brain cell. The random feet pic. Wings. I could go on... but you really did a lot to expand the chat besides like The Gay Jerk and make it a hilarious environment for everyone. 1 of the major Venn Diagram circles on this squad, you really helped bring it all together and I appreciate that big time.

LpZ : Hell yeah brother congratulations on the excellent season. I was very happy to grab you after you PMed me about your high motivation at the start of the season. Knowing we'd go cheap led me to invest in people that I know had experience and a high ceiling, and getting the Slam trophy winner for 3.5k was the perfect way to do that. You're also SUPER fucking jacked which is awesome, getting your life updates and pump checks was sick and encouraged everyone in the chat to open up a little more I think. The gym bro boost in the beginning of the season was very real too. In the actual game, you also played an insane schedule, with great wins over 3d/Myjava/Mada and some very close losses to Attribute and JJ. I'm confident you'll keep doing great in teamtours and raise that sheet even more. And happy birthday:)

damien the genius: So fucking glad we got you this tour!! NGL Starry says it was planned but I never really considered u pre-draft, since I had no idea what we were gonna do in SS. You were an incredible surprise this tour. Like Starry said, you're an incredibly talented clicker who had dominant showings against the best of the best in Ox, Luth, and TDNT. You are also a genuine angel as a person which made us all the more hyped for you -- your Zapdos 1v5 win against SpookyZ was INSANE and I know we were all so happy for u in that moment b/c it couldn't happen to a better guy. We got you as a massive steal, and I think you can do even better than this given your potential and clicking talent. Excited to see where u go from here.

pj LMFAOOO bro you are so funny oh my god. Once again I didn't really know you too well before the tour, and our ORAS plans were kinda in-flux, but landing on you was absolutely perfect since you're just naturally the funniest guy ever. You had a great approach in prep and definitely proved why you're one of the most consistent players in modern-day ORAS. Way to keep climbing that sheet! I will be very very happy if you and Team India can pull off the win this WCOP so go get it done.

Tace: Despite having what you described as an unusual season in-game I really appreciate everything you did to help anchor this team. You gave great input on players we considered pre-draft, maintained a steady attitude regardless of how the games went, and you were still able to put up great results despite the misfortune of the Ruiners / semis games. Frankly, having SM under your control basically meant I never had to worry about the slot -- you are 100% the guy in that tier and we knew we could always be confident in you. You also put in a lot of effort to test in SV when I was busy + give input in SS which was huge, and you anchored the MW core / culture of the team. I'm very glad you ended positive under us because it means we count as good managers

Kate: If you told me how useful youd be to this team when you were laddering on your main account week 2 I would have been shocked. But frankly you were another person in the MVP conversation. I still remember you and Groudon's discovery of pippy_nyc which had me cracking up while I Doordashed at like 1AM, the time you genuinely made me laugh out loud in the middle of class, and your ringleading of the Mcmeghan memes that fueled us the entire tour. In game you also proved very willing to test your teams, picking up the meta immediately when we subbed you in, and you had a great eye for what's good and what isn't. I think you could have done even better than your record, and I felt really confident having you vs SZ in the finals because you're the perfect person to take down the SV "boss" of the opposing team. Congratulations on maintaining your remarkable undefeated playoffs record as well.

leng loi: Thanks for all the work you did during the SCL run-back this time. I know you deserved a shot the first time and I'm really glad you got one here. You did an incredible job at the start of the season, carrying multiple sets and being at the top of the metagame. Even though things got understandably more difficult after 1.5 months of carrying that burden, you continued to ladder, build, and stay at the top of the meta, ultimately bringing a great team to Finals and making the massive contribution of choosing the team we used in finals tiebreak. I know it's not easy to manage all the chaos of 4 different prep channels + your IRL work + Dungeons and Dragons :nerd: but you did a fantastic job and this team absolutely needed it.

dice, congratulations so much on finally getting your red. Extremely deserved and I'm super happy for you. I know we weren't able to get you a helper and didn't know much BW ourselves, so you had a lot of extra work to do during the regular season. As I said above, you stepped up in one of the 3 biggest SPL games of the season -- your season-saving Game 12 masterpiece versus SoulWind. You being willing to absolutely grind tests beforehand even as we were demoralized and losing was absolutely essential and it really paid off. In both playoff games, you overcame some back-breaking hax and executed brilliantly. Your contributions to McM's finals TB prep all throughout the last few days was extremely useful, and your input in our 70K ADV channel was massive this season in general. Finally, even when the season went bad, you were super involved socially which I really respect. Keep racking up the poker wins.

Kaz, the first of our 2 "retains", congratulations on the excellent turn-around in playoffs. I think you really found a groove and made some excellent plays in the playoff games while never really letting the game slip due to factors beyond your control. From Week 1 we were super excited to have you as a 3k because you immediately showed us your potential, but as you know there were a handful of games afterward where you faltered either in prep or ingame. It certainly never felt like any hax went in your favor, but if anything you improved from the adversity, put in a ton of effort for playoffs, and it completely paid off. Putting so much time into a tier that can be so cruel and unfulfilling was a massive sacrifice and I really appreciate it. Everyone said your game down 6-3 vs Tyrants was the turning point of our playoffs, and it was, but for me I always believed that game was a lock after knowing your potential and seeing how well you prepared.

View attachment IMG_9185.webp
BIHI our other "retain", exactly at what your retain price would have been too. Everything I said about Kaz putting so much time and effort into an unfulfilling tier applies double here, as you ran into a ton of misfortune in GSC this season. However, having you on our team at all was genuinely massive for our tiebreak core. We always believed in you, you always did enough to win, and I saw exactly how well you prepared for the Semis game vs Rubyblood. Your input in DPP and ADV throughout the season was also tremendous. I hope you enjoy retirement (if you really do stay away...) and can be proud of everything you've accomplished in your time on this site. You crashing out at starry's "we lose" in game discussion was so funny every time too LMAO

View attachment oFn7U55.webp
Arc: Thank you for staying persistent in an environment where Leng kinda dominated the SV building discourse (and got all the credit from the public when we called her Lengbron 10,000 times). I know it may have felt hard for you to work your way in, and it's easy to have a "too many cooks" situation with the 4 players we have, who were all actively giving ideas of their own. But you get a lot of credit for the good prep environment we had! I really liked your teams, especially in the end of the season. You also had great prep insight on specific opponents and really stepped up in playoff time. You ALSO carried fucking starry to like round 4 of OST with whimsicott sun which really says it all.

View attachment IMG_9164.webp
Abyssal Ruins: Congrats on the fantastic SPL debut win LOL it was truly electric for us to watch. Starry was always a huge believer in you in basically any Classic tier, and I have no idea whether you expected to be in RBY when you signed up for this during the window that signups got reopened. You're funny af and I'm super glad you could repay Starry's trust in you from our pichus swag days.

View attachment Vgk4yiT-1.webp
sorry dahli im sneaking my own quote in
DAHLI: Despite the games not going your way I really don't think it was your fault at all. Week 1 you played excellent to take over a bad matchup until the very end in a Zama v Zama situation, and week 2 we kinda handicapped you with a Gliscor set I'm still seething about to this day. Regardless, thank you for having a good attitude about it all during the early weeks and being around for tests.

View attachment image-1-1.webp
blank: Starry freaking blanket. We won SPL. I still can't believe it LOL. I'm still grateful you had trust in me and introduced me to Midwest when I was just a noob, and I got to see firsthand exactly how good you are at cultivating a social environment. I'm very glad we were able to bring you on board as the third manager this tour. Although lots of people were critical of this decision -- basically everyone I talked to, in fact -- knowing your track record and seeing you work first hand made it very easy to trust in you. And you did an amazing job, your auction calls were excellent and despite us getting on each other's nerves we assembled and executed a great plan. I'm glad we were able to have such an amazing tour despite you saying "we lose" every game and every week, and you assembling a great support infrastructure + having like 30k lines was a massive reason why. Thank you for: Mike trout bot, having close relationships with our SM / BW players that should have let us get them at a discount but then they got upbid anyways, keeping the chat active and fun every day, and innovating the groundbreaking managerial strategy of letting yourself be the butt of every joke.

d0nut, thank you for taking a shot on me and being willing to bring me on board as an SPL manager. I would not have managed this tour if you didn't say yes so I owe this entirely to you. Your experience was extremely valuable to me as a guy who's literally never been in SPL before, and your role as a neutral arbitrator whenever Starry and I started tweaking was very important as well. You were an elite auction planner and made it clear why you've made like 5 out of 7? playoffs by now. You're also absolutely deadpan hilarious LMAO you were funnier in 1 message than starry or I can be in 100. Very happy to see you finally get the trophy you've been close to for a very long time.

KlefkiHolder he made his own great post here, thank you so much for doing what you did for this team, you were a massive asset that we got for free and i hope we could repay you with the #itsallaboutrespect memes and fun times. you deserve this trophy 1000%

Cow thank you for your bw resources and thoughts, I know not being drafted was very unfortunate but you absolutely deserve a shot next time and I hope you got to learn something from the experience. You're great at SV too, can't wait to see you in WCOP and happy u have the opportunity

Zpanther19 thanks so much for the ADV support, very reliable scouter every week and high quality player in test games from everything I hear, you deserve your time on the big stage v soon as well like the others

Bouff s/o bouff for the SS OU tests and general vibes, as always you're awesome and also a good enough player for any tournament on the site as long as you believe in yourself

Student of Sinnoh thank you for all the work u did with the Don, you built excellent teams, worked very hard and had great suggestions + tons of tests to get him on track early in the season

Sabelette thank you sm for the RBY scouting and advice as well as being a bridge for us managers who had no idea how RBY works

kjdaas Jisoo SPACE FORCE meeps very happy to have you all in chat as well, thank u for mike trout bot and your good vibes in general + comments in rby/bw

Shoutouts Sacri' Sceptross Vileman (go cryos) oldspicemike Lily Excal TDNT Punny for joining during playoffs, all of your help was very useful when you were able to give it, especially the cryos. It did sound insane to pull our helpers primarily from the last place team but what the hell it worked out.

Special shoutout to the franchise player Garay oak for his insane help in playoffs, said he wouldnt even do much then had incredibly useful feedback in SEVEN of the tiers in this tour, completely blew us away

shoutout to my lovely gf olivebranch for being my number 1 supporter + enduring me being a pokemon fiend + beating roguelite yesterday

Congrats to the Classiest !!
Was rooting for Roro, BIHI and Kaz :boi:but I don't forget the rest of the team, who obviously fully deserves my congratulations, they are great players too :psyglad:

GG to the Tigers too, huge performance, it was tight until the very end.

And thank you all to maintain such a level for this prestigious team tournament that makes shine all Pokémon generations, so everyone can watch insane games in their favorite tier, even us the boomers, I mean the fossils of Ruin of Alph.

Nothing to add, since I am just a mere spectator and still a beginner in the competitive scene. but thank you all SPL players, you are a model for any player.

super happy for all my classiest friends, you guys were outstanding and so much fun to hang around in chat i really felt like apart of the team. so many hype moments and clutches it was an absolute joy ride and i loved every minute of it. congrats guys!! you are all more than deserving of this trophy!

Very thankful and moved. This has been years in the making. Thanks to my teammates for being reliable, strong thinkers and clickers. I fucked around a bit more than usual this season in the builder, in part to my team's ability to comfortably stomp the opposition, but I am glad I was able to come through in the playoffs. Team selection has always been one of my stronger suits. I had a dearth of support this season and was force to prep largely on my own as opposed to having someone like Mannat, and I can attest how important player support is in this tournament especially. Lesson learned.

I started playing this tournament when I was 14, and I am 28 now. I have developed so much on this website as a person and as a thinker and am thankful for the best parts of this game.

I appreciate the greats: ABR for his teambuilding; Empo for his team selection; SoulWind for his game sense and leveling; McMeghan for his clutch factor; Earthworm for his aggression, BKC for his discernment and ability to always strike the right balance.

I appreciate the folks on this website who have helped develop my person: Eo for his logic, reason, and exemplar writing ability; talah for their kindness and genuine sincerity; BKC for being of the first people I was friends with in my teens; Ciele for teaching me how to set boundaries; this list could also go on.

The beauty and the idiosyncrasies bound within the resources of this game have kept me coming back for years. And the joys when you win, the deep regrets when you lose. Nothing is really like it.

While Pokemon hasn't been a primary driver in my life for quite some time, I am grateful to have finally won this tournament. We had a fantastic group of people and, though my contributions were middling record-wise, I am certain my woo-woo brought wins in other slots. I don't think is my last tournament, but this win certainly helps me rest a bit easier.

Yay. :)

Man, what a ride it has been to win this tournament. It's been a few days and I'm still so happy about it. Couldn't dream of a more emotional finish. Winning the tournament after tiebreaking is one of the best feelings there is here, and I'll take that with me forever.

As per tradition, I will now do some blogposting, shout-outs, yada yada the classic.

I will start by giving my respects to the Tigers, a franchise I have some attachment to and history with. You guys were very clearly the best team this tournament besides us, and it showed in the results. Second finals in a row is a testament to your drafting skill zom if you read this, and props to you for that. I remember thinking your line-up looked solid back when we faced off in week 1, and it was even better by the end as most of the players proved themselves even more during the tournament.

I would also like to give a massive shout-out to all the people that were involved in the organization of this tournament, you guys went above and beyond this year, really trying to put SPL more out there with all the articles, the videos, the predictions, etc. It was awesome and it really felt like there was kind of a festival going on here for the past month. Definitely feeling some post-tournament blues right now. Special mention to Dave here <3

I couldn't have predicted this outcome for myself this tournament. I originally didn't even want to play, coming back from a pretty long break, and that's why I originally signed up to manage with Vulpix and Altina. I'm not going to lie, I for sure wasn't gonna be a workhorse kind of manager, as I was planning to have fun with the boys, but that didn't even go through since we didn't get picked. Thanks Star, I owe you one for this. It's even funnier that the team who got a spot over us was the Classiest, led by d0nut, Expulso, and the last-minute addition of starry, who somehow made their team more attractive to the hosts riding on the WCop victory I generously contributed to.

Then came the decision whether or not I'd play in the tournament. At the time, my motivation was definitely elsewhere, and so was the use of my time. SPL always ends up having me getting obsessed with the game, which isn't always ideal now that I've grown older. I originally signed up for RBY because I thought that it'd be easier on my mind, as I wouldn't have to bother much about prep or even expectations of doing well. Did some more thinking after that and decided to include more gens in my sign-up, because if I don't wanna bother too much, might as well do it in a tier I'm much more familiar with.

To share that part of the story with everyone, I actually had starry blocked on both Smogon and Discord before this for... obvious? reasons. Anyway, as the managers got announced, I removed the block just in case I'd get contacted, because it goes against my principles to avoid teams/people, and let's say it ended up being a good decision.

I started the season with a loss, but I stayed confident in my plays, and with the help of some friends to pick teams later on, I felt really in my groove with ADV again. Was definitely very satisfied with my regular season here. On the other hand, extremely frustrated with myself for the semi-final prep/team, especially as I was getting more obsessive again with the game now that it was playoffs. The stress I put on myself afterwards for the tiebreaker was immense, but at least it paid off. I felt fraudulent for letting my team down in the semi-final and final by losing the regular week games, but history and myself will focus on the tiebreakers instead.

The Classiest experience was one of my favorite SPL seasons I've ever played in, for sure. It was clear from the beginning this chat was gonna be lively with the presence of many people who already knew each other, and I loved it. I got to meet people I never interacted with, and I had a ton of fun there. On top of that, I felt quite confident about the team the managers drafted; it looked like everyone could be relied on, and the few people I didn't know quickly proved to be reliable as well. Getting attached to you all made me want to win so bad, even though usually I'm just happy with a good run.

Winning SPL so soon after the last win feels so weird to me considering I've spent so many years on this website and tournament, and for a while, not even getting close to playoffs. I feel blessed in recent years with the team tour runs I've been part of, and it feels very rewarding as I tried to incorporate a lot of changes to my approach to the game after doing some self-analysis and criticism. It gives me some regrets that I haven't won more, but also, I think it was all part of a learning process that I can reap the rewards of now, while trying to share some of that wisdom with others.

It feels a bit egocentric to share all these thoughts that are mostly about myself, but I love this game and these tournaments so much, I have to let it out of my system with the whole world in times of victory.

Now come the shout-outs!
:pichu: blank Where to even begin honestly... What a turn of events to go from my ignore list to probably the person I PM'd the most over the last 3 months. As I already told you there, I felt your full support for me at all times throughout the tournament. Despite the expectations that usually come with me, I genuinely felt like you didn't want to burden me for as long as possible, and I appreciate that a lot. It was a pleasure to be part of such a fun and active team, and you were by far the biggest contributors to that, first by the people you allied and put together in the server, but also by your own activity. There were so many nights where the chat was absolutely popping off, and I definitely killed my sleep schedule a few times just to hang out there. Made me feel 10 years younger to have times like that again. I have to say btw that the "we lose" gimmick is fucking terrible!!

:geodude: Expulso Phenomenal manager honestly. We never talked before this tournament, but you were nice to meet, and you also made the chat extremely lively. You also did so much for everyone's prep by constantly making good and early scouts, analyses of trends, etc. You worked so hard for this and you totally deserve this tournament. I'm sure it came as such a relief after the disappointment of SCL's finals. I will in particular remember your involvement in the last tiebreaker, where you gave me exactly what I needed in a perfect package. You're on track for an amazing career as a manager, and legends of the game like Tony will have to watch out for you at this rate if you keep managing.

:bayleef: d0nut Radical change of tone compared to the other two lol. You also have a very solid track record as a manager, and I hope finally getting a ring will liberate you. Usually calm, you would often show up in general to drop some zingers about our opponents; you definitely have a nasty side that you keep hidden. I will remember the words of encouragement and wisdom you had for me during the tiebreaker discussions. It helped me a lot to take my decisions and to avoid overthinking them.

:whiscash: Abyssal Ruins I will be honest, I don't have a lot to say here, but thanks for giving us options in old gens for the lineup and actually putting in effort when you got slotted. Despite your activity, you got yourself on the !quote bot too.

:arctozolt: Arc We didn't share many moments together but thanks for helping our SVers when you could.

:machamp: BIHI back2back mec, incroyable nan?

:fezandipiti: DAHLI Second Red together here too! I'm sure you'd have rather have a different tournament individually but thanks for your contributions. It's a rough spot to deal with to get subbed but from what I've seen, you never held it against the other players and just stayed a great teammate. Here is to hope you can grow from this tour and taste victory again.

:zapdos: damien the genius I was shocked the managers managed to snag you for such a low price after your last year. I was very confident with the SS slot with you there. You had many memorable games, and the way you started our semis in particular was one of the most impressive showings I've seen at that stage of the tournament. You were also such a nice presence in the chat. A pure soul in an ocean of hoodlums. Was also lovely to see you try to catch as many games as you could despite your timezone. Remember for the future to not get paranoid about team choices; look at how much you won going with your favorites!

:garchomp: dice Another veteran of the game. We teamed twice ever; the first time for your first SPL and the second time for your first SPL win. Poetic, isn't it? Loved your presence in the chat, just the right amount of goofiness and rawness I like to see. Your games in the semi-final and final made me feel some of the highest highs of recent years I've had watching teammates play. The fact that it was you in particular who won made it even better given your run until then and your involvement in the team's Soul. Thank you so much again for your constant uplifting with the last tiebreaker and also your help throughout teams there.

:groudon: Groudon Absolute legend LMAO I'm so fucking glad the managers got you. You're legit so funny and made up a big part of the fun of being in this chat. Your ability to piggyback off other's jokes is also awesome. Was never a dull time with you around, honestly. Pokémon-wise you were also extremely entertaining, sometimes against our best interests! The Ashton posting will stay in the history books too.

:raichu-alola: Kate Everything I said back in SCL still holds true here. One of my favorite chat presences, genuinely impressive understanding of the game, great handling of the pressure, a lot of fun to be around. You get to be at the top of the list for the time being. Yep, I'm glazing hard and IDC, teammates like you are hard to come by and I'm very happy we got to win two tours in a row. Hopefully more in the future!

:keldeo: leng loi I honestly didn't know you before this tour, and I quickly was impressed by how much you were doing for us. Your hunger to win this tournament showed and it inspired me to try harder too. Thank you so much for all the time you invested this tour. Watch out that it doesn't become a habit and burn you out now. I had blind faith in all our SV slots with you at the helm and it was one of our big strengths as a team, so you have a lot to be proud of imo. If you stick with the game, I think you can become a big name here. Also, Pokémon aside, it was a ton of fun to joke around with you and the others in the chat this season, you contributed a lot to make this server so lively. Oh, and you're also a lunatic for your antics in other people's streams LOL.

:buzzwole: LpZ Top tier teammate, especially for this price. Great chat presence and you played some really nice games, man. Like I said recently in #qotd, your game vs bhkg in particular left me in awe. One of the best played games of the season and one I'll remember and praise for a while. You're on a good run so far between Slam and SPL and given how much you grind, you could become a big staple of the scene at this rate. Good luck with that and the gym.

:gardevoir-mega: pj What a progression you've had, man. I remember you from a decade ago when you were just getting started, and now you've become an ORAS staple who got to win on the big stage. You stopping the Tigers' momentum in the finals was so vital, thank you so much for that. Your constant optimism was such a nice touch to have around and you also, much like other people, contributed a lot to the life of the server. #itsallaboutrespect I also appreciated your kind words and faith in me <3 I remember after BIHI lost in the finals tiebreaker, you were the only person who didn't seem shaken or troubled by the result. Your faith in us as a group got us where we needed to be. I find you so endearing between your personality and your gimmicks, ahah, was a nice tour to have together man.

:roaring-moon: S1nn0hC0nfirm3d Yeah honestly, one of the goatest seasons I've ever seen, especially from the inside as a teammate. You're a weird character for sure, but man, what a fuckin' player. You have crazy instincts and you wield offense like no other in this gen. You came in clutch so many times, and the tiebreakers were ridiculously well played too. Legendary honestly. IDK how much of it you ever get out of your acting with other people, but I hope you had a great time this season :)

:marshadow: Tace You've also had such a crazy good progression over the years, man. I remember when we were on the Tigers together years ago and had this terrible season. I got to see the massive difference since then. Never feared for our SM games with you. I also loved your presence in the chat, especially as the more chill/laid-back/frankly normal demeanor compared to the rest of our goofs.

----HELPERS / OUTSIDE----

KlefkiHolder Cow Student of Sinnoh Zpanther19 appreciate all of you for your activity in the chat and also helping some of our slots throughout the season with tests/building/etc you all deserve to be remembered of for this

Congratulations to The Classiest!! Well deserved win! It was an amazing experience getting to hang with everyone in the server. The vibes were peak!
McMeghan thank you for allowing me to support even tho we didn’t really know each other before, it was an honor and a blast running games with you. You’re the freaking GOAT bro you kicked ass this spl!
blank thank you for believing I me and bringing me into the fold I really appreciate it. You’re hillarious and always brought amazing energy and vibes! Was awesome getting to know you through this and I hope I can team up with you for real in the future!
Expulso you’re an awesome guy! The care and attention you give to prep even though I only saw adv was inspiring! Very glad to be involved with the team and get to know you. Hope I can team with you one day as well!
To the other classiest! Yall were all awesome and the convos in the server were always great and made me laugh! Good luck to you all in the future!

Honestly I wasn't sure I would ever be in a position where I would be making one of these posts as I only intended on doing it if my team won in the end, and considering I've never been the most public facing person on this site to begin with and over the years SPL has become the one thing keeping me around it seemed likely that chance might never come. After 10 years of being involved with this tour, 6 of which I was managing, we actually managed to make it happen in the end though. Given I've only had less and less time to devote to this game over the years and wasn't sure I'd even be available enough to manage another year I couldn't have hoped for a better result or a more deserving group who managed to stay active and motivated the whole way while playing at the top of their game to the very end.

Firstly I'd like to commend the Tigers for getting this far and pushing this tour to the very last game, particularly z0mOG and some of the others that stuck with him that managed to pull this off two years straight now. That level of consistency is genuinely impressive, and in a game with such a high degree of variance it wouldn't take much for the results to have gone the other way. Keep it up and don't get discouraged and I'm sure you'll get your ring soon enough. From as early as the conclusion of the draft I had a feeling you guys were gonna be the team to beat and you certainly lived up to that.

I'd also like to thank the team of hosts and other contributors for doing a solid job this year staying on top of keeping things updated, as well as trying out some new ideas such as the prediction tour and media coverage to bring some excitement to what is in all honesty the best part of Smogon. Look forward to seeing how else you guys can improve on things from here.

As for our own team it's already been said here by others but it really was a special environment with great vibes and activity from the start. While responsibilities prevent me from being around as often as I'd like anymore I still enjoyed being able to jump in and engage with you all and take some shots at Expulso or Groudon. Can't have Groudon getting a big head over winning a few times even if he somehow got one of the better records on the team somehow LMAO. On a more serious note its incredible that you were all able to remain so positive throughout the tour no matter the position we were in and remained on top of the standings for basically the entire tour.

S1nn0hC0nfirm3d - When starry first brought you up as a potential starter I was absolutely down to take a chance on it since even if the bulk of your accomplishments were in lower tiers you always stood out to me as a strong player that wasn't afraid to click the right buttons. To this day I have no idea how we managed to walk out of the auction getting you for just 3k and knew after that masterclass win week 1 that you had the potential to be the steal of the draft but honestly given how many weeks you clutched including both tiebreak games even calling it the steal of the draft seems like an understatement. I know there are a handful of people out there who aren't a fan of your antics but its ultimately misplaced. People could learn a thing or two about not giving too much of a fuck about what is ultimately a fun hobby, and not taking things too seriously can be a great strength when it comes to playing with confidence when all the chips are down. It also makes you a great presence and a lot of fun to be around, keep doing your thing brother.

leng loi - I know you would have liked to have put up a more dominant record here, but your record alone obviously doesn't speak to how instrumental you were for us. With SV taking up a third of the starting slots a strong builder was clearly a must have and we put full trust in Expulso's judgment that you could handle the job and you certainly delivered. Its definitely not easy to have to take on that burden while maintaining such a high level of creativity especially over the span of a 13 week tournament but it ultimately paid off for us in a big way, massive props for the effort you put in here. It was great getting to meet you this season, and I hope you continue to do well in your tournament career going forward be it on South in WCoP or whatever else you decide to do.

LpZ - Another great high ceiling player we were able to secure for cheap. You did a fantastic job adapting your success from slam onto yet another big stage and secured some huge wins throughout the season. Despite having a lot going on behind the scenes you always managed to show up and put on a good performance, I'm sure you'll continue to do well in tours for years to come as well. You were an amazing presence and it was great having you around this season, may your future be filled with capybaras, gains, and more trophies.

Kate - You were a player I had my eye on as a cheap option that could start and likely bring in some wins given you always seemed capable to me in other tours even if it was mainly playing Ubers. While we didn't initially get you to start it was reassuring to have you as an option to step up if we needed to make adjustments and that ended up working out great for us here with you bringing in some big wins and especially keeping the undefeated playoff streak alive. You were also the perfect fit for the vibes for this team we assembled and one of the funniest people in the chat hands down. Dropping in with one of your unhinged statements or past experiences was always a highlight of the chat for sure.

damien the genius - Given SS was a field with a lot of uncertainty about it, I'm glad we ended up managing to get away with picking you up for so little even as funds started to get tight. You were never afraid to click the right buttons to control games with aggressive plays and the heroics you managed to pull off with your trusty Zapdos throughout the season made for some of the most memorable in game moments of anyone this season. You're also a very humble and kind individual amidst a website of large egos and shit talkers which made it nice to have you around in the chat as a breath of fresh air. I'm sure you'll continue to do big things and I hope WCoP goes well for you and your team.

Tace - Pretty much the one guy we knew from day 1 we were going to get without much room for negotiation since starry wouldn't take no for an answer. Given the consistency you've shown in SM over the years I knew it would be a solid choice and didn't really push back on that beyond considering backups for the worst possible situation. Despite some obstacles you ended up putting up another strong season and I'm glad the confidence we had in you wasn't misplaced. As a midwest mainstay you also fit right into the culture of the team and I appreciated having someone else around that could balance out the over the top energy of our more vocal yappers like starry. You're no stranger to winning these things and your consistency as a player is definitely a big part of that so I wouldn't be surprised if its not your last time.

pj - One of the most hard working and dedicated players on the team for sure. The ORAS prep channel was always insanely active and it was insane to see you and kh working nonstop, oftentimes prepping for the next opponent as soon as your most recent game was over. You were also a mainstay chat presence and the heart of this team in many ways. Similar to damien you're definitely one of the nicest people around and your optimism is infectious which I think was necessary to balance out the constant doom posting that would inevitably come from starry whenever a game started up. I'll be hoping for the best for you in your future tours, maybe you and MANNAT can run it back in a future tour but just remember we got you there first, its all about respect.

dice - As the one person on the team with a longer dry streak for an SPL win than myself I gotta congratulate you for finally making it happen. Your regular season might not have been to your usual standards but clutching your playoff games in such dominant fashion showed just how much hunger you had to get the win in the end (as if the daily "@everyone lets win spl!!!!" tags didn't do that already.) You're a lot of fun to have around and I appreciate the expertise you were able to provide in the old gen channels, you stepped up to support Roro both in his decision to play to his strengths in the tiebreak and with prep in a big way in that final adv game. I'll look forward to seeing you in future SPLs, and now you'll be able to go forward having finally gotten that big win.

Groudon - Going back to our old days on central you're the person on this roster I've known for the longest. It was a blast getting to reunite with you through this tour as you've always been such a positive person and a lot of fun to have around. If you told the me from like a decade ago we'd be winning SPL together with you starting in DPP I'd have probably said something like "this clown is good enough to start in 2025?" Incidentally if you told me the same back in December I'd have almost certainly said the same thing but here we are. Honestly though I couldn't be happier that we made the decision to take the gamble on you since you definitely do have the experience needed to win in this tier (and the army of support required to make that happen) and you've always been able to put up with my comments from the sidelines since you know its all in good fun. I'm glad this tour was able to reignite your passion for playing, its always fun watching you play big stakes games so hopefully we can see more of that in a future SPL.

McMeghan - In all these years playing the only other time we teamed was back during my first SPL on the Bigs in SPL 7. While that season was far from the best run a lot has changed since then and it was incredible getting to run things back again with one of the all time greats. It was very reassuring to see you have a positive first impression of our draft from the outset, and when things started to click into place even during the offseason week leading up to the tour I knew we were in for something special. It was nice to have you around knowing you could always bring in the win whenever we needed it, but also to provide insight to all of our players about the game as a whole from a source they could respect. Even with everything you had going on I appreciate the amount of effort you put into your games, particularly the ones in the tiebreak where you managed to keep things under control even with the high stakes. I'm glad you were able to vibe well with everyone including starry who you might have understandably had some poor impressions of, and that you were able to take the numerous the jokes at your expense. Perhaps now that things are winding down you might actually be able to return to a somewhat normal sleep schedule, but we'll still see each other around while our chat still remains reasonably active and I look forward to seeing more gameplay from one the greatest and most passionate players this game has ever known.

BIHI - I know you might not have the best feeling about this season in terms of personal achievement but I still stand by our decision to go for you. You had more than your share of misfortune but still showed some very solid gameplay and clutched crucial wins for us even in a tier where you didn't have the most experience or the greatest impression of it. I also admire you a lot as a player and respect the hell out of anyone who willingly steps up to play these big tiebreak games with everything on the line and all the pressure that comes with it. If this is the end of playing for you then I'm glad we could at least pull off a win together, but this game has its ways of bringing people back so perhaps we'll see you on the big stage again.

Kaz - While I'm sure you would have wanted to put up a better record and are definitely capable of doing so, being able to clutch those wins in playoffs means so much more to the team. I know you struggled to find your usual confidence with your plays during the regular season but you did a fantastic job pulling it back and I really appreciated your mentality when it came to looking for things you could have done to improve even in some of these games where you more or less just got robbed. The tie offer vs the Tyrants when we were down 3-6 was a stressful moment but it at least paid off and became a sort of rallying point for us when morale was at an all time low. Was a pleasure winning this with you, and hopefully you can perform to your full potential in a future SPL now that you've already bagged a win.

Abyssal Ruins - You're definitely not the most active presence and a bit of an enigma but you're definitely an entertaining player to watch. Glad we could get you a couple games in this season to show what you can do, hope you enjoy this victory as well.

Arc - Thanks for helping out our SV core where you could. Its definitely not easy to stand out from a bench role when the tour has 4 slots for the tier you're providing input for but that speaks volume about the importance of that role as well. If other hobbies don't take up too much of your time perhaps you'll have a breakout tour of your own in the future.

DAHLI - I know this season wasn't representative of what you're really capable of but I appreciate you taking things well when we shifted our lineup and sticking around with us. I'm glad we could at least secure the trophy though and wish you the best with whatever you do going forward.

blank - Really there's a lot I could say here but a lot is stuff you've already heard from me by now. It was kind of a crazy twist that brought this core together in the first place and when Expulso floated the idea last minute I figured it would be a fun way to approach the tour. On one hand your reputation would likely turn several big names away from wanting to affiliate with us but on the other it makes the tour way more entertaining. I also had confidence based on what I'd heard from people involved with midwest that you would be a positive contributor and that we could navigate creating a team that wouldn't be repulsed at the idea of playing for you. To that end we definitely succeeded and even convinced big names like McMeghan and BIHI you weren't as insufferable as they might have previously believed. Oh and we apparently won SPL too while we were at it LMAO. Honestly though if this tour proved anything its that those that actually give you a shot will realize you aren't as bad as you made yourself out to be all those years ago and that you're one of the most capable managers on this site. You were definitely the biggest part of keeping the chat thriving and assembling a culture that stayed active and exciting the entire season. We might not have really had direct interactions before this but things clicked between us fairly quickly so we were able to work past that and create a good plan and execute on it. While its difficult to say whether we'll be doing this again after getting the win I'm definitely more inclined to want to return if you'll be running it back with me for another year.

Expulso - Similarly to starry we might not have had many interactions before this but I'm absolutely glad that didn't stop us from going through with it anyway. Your knowledge of the current landscape of Smogon in the current generation compared to starry and myself was critical towards us putting together a winning lineup and the effort you put into prep across multiple slots every week was massive and I guarantee every player on this team appreciates you for it despite the hard time we give you. You probably put more effort into winning this than anyone and I'm glad you were able to redeem yourself with a win so quickly after coming up short in your previous finals run. After trying to get into managerial positions for so long it almost seems crazy you didn't get your chance sooner because you have a great mindset for it and the determination to make it work. Everything from the chat activity to keeping motivation high to making sure prep was going smoothly was handled incredibly well and your contributions were essential to that end. It was fun getting to hang with you and everyone else these last few months and thanks for taking a lot of the verbal abuse from everyone like a champ. If obligations or other things prevent myself and/or starry from being involved in future years I would be able to rest easy knowing things were in your charge should you keep it up going forward.

Overall I wasn't certain how I felt about things shifting to three managers initially but given the dynamic of our group I think it worked out for the best here. Between starry's contributions to the chat and culture of the team to Expulso keeping the team on track and focused on their prep each week they were able to complement one of the main things I've come to lack over the years which is time. Keeping up with multiple metagames while also being able to involve yourself for hours on end to keep an environment alive is a monumental task for any one person to take on and having less time with other things in my life taking priority makes me really appreciate that they were able to reduce a lot of that burden on my end. I can only hope that my own contributions of experience, planning, and keeping a more level head in difficult situations was enough to balance things out.

I'd also like to quickly thank the numerous people who helped us out courtesy of starry's open border policies.

KlefkiHolder - I appreciate the tremendous amount of work you put in helping out in ORAS while also being a mainstay of our chat, you're basically as much a part of the team as all of us. Your knowledge of the tier was very apparent even to someone whos several years removed from the metagame and I respect the accountability you had even when things didn't pan out. Your more level headed analysis of games was also appreciated amidst starry's sea of doomering.

Cow - Thanks for showing up to provide dice with some level of input when he was otherwise isolated from people on the team up to date with the current tier. Hope you can get your shot next year and that WCoP gives you a chance to show what you can do.

Student of Sinnoh - You and everyone else in Groudon's ear were undoubtedly instrumental to the success he had. I knew you to be a knowledgable DPPer from the last time you played for the team and it was nice to have you around.

Zpanther19 - Starry picked you out of a crowd of possible adv helpers and somehow roped you into helping us for free. Appreciate all you did to help out and hope you can make it into this tour in the future.

kjdaas and Sabelette - I appreciate you two showing up to support Kaz and cheer the rest of us on throughout the tour, glad we could live up to expectations and win.

SPACE FORCE meeps - Its good to see you're still around, even if only to check in on Groudon's results and keep the bot running. It made for an instrumental part of the team culture.

Kyo - Thanks for providing ideas and running some tests with Tace when he was otherwise lacking in people to run games with on the roster.

Jisoo - Appreciated having you around when you had time to pop in and check in on the rest of us, and particularly dice when he was feeling lost.

Bouff - Was good to have you around to vibe with the chat and help out with SS, you were a big part of the team culture.

siras - Another active presense that was instrumental to keeping our chat alive, was great have you around.

Also a quick thank you to Sacri', Vileman, Sceptross, oldspicemike, Lily , TDNT, Punny, and Excal for your support during the later stages of the tour, I'm grateful you took the time to either hang out with us or support our slots in these final weeks.

I'd also like to give a special mention to Garay oak . You honestly went above and beyond for someone with no direct stake in this. As something of a franchise player having been on Classiest multiple times it felt very nostalgic having you around during playoffs and I very much appreciate the time you put in testing or bouncing around ideas. Between the insane season and support you provided I can't think of anyone who deserves to win this tour more going forward.

Lastly I'd like to thank FMG, snaga, Amaranth, and Luthier for running the team with me in these past years. Went through a lot of ups and downs with you guys and enjoyed the opportunity to manage with each of you. I'd also like to thank jake and Finchinator for the role they played in me getting my initial start in Smogon tours back in the central days, I hope all is well with you guys.

ggs Tigers was a really fun and close series. I also want to say the same for the Tyrants. Both teams were very well-constructed and both of those series went down to the very end.

This was easily the most fun I have had on Smogon. As Expulso and d0nut mentioned this tournament reignited my love for the game, something that had been waning for quite some time. I'm so glad I decided to sign up and so thankful that my managers took a chance on me.

The team environment was one of the best parts of the experience for me. It was and still is popping all the time. We have such a great group of people and that is so crucial when constructing a roster. This team was sort of a combination of different friend groups and it worked so seamlessly. From spamming so many different emotes like goatdon, groudon, zen, and manly (shoutouts McMeghan for suprising me with the first two especially the sick goatdon design) to talking about our lives and interests there was never a dull moment. The vibe after wins is going to be good on any team but with this team it just felt different. The hype and atmosphere was electric. As with any tournament the pursuit is the trophy but the journey felt equally as valuable this time around.

I also really enjoyed all of my games. My finals game in particular was one of my favorite moments on this site and will probably go down as one of my favorite games ever. My week 1 and first DPP SPL game will also be a top memory for me. Pretty happy overall with my rookie DPP campaign and I hope to build on it in future SPLs.

This tournament also evoked so much nostalgia for me. From playing Pearl for the first time on my 10th birthday, to screwing around on the Shoddy Battle ladder, to challenging anyone who would play me in DPP in the smogtours lobby. DPP has always been my favorite tier since I was a kid which is another reason playing it in SPL was such a special feeling.

This was an amazing tournament in every sense of the word and I have many to thank for that.

Student of Sinnoh When Osgoode told me he was going on vacation for 7 weeks and would not be able to pass me teams I thought I was cooked. He said he had a really good pupil and introduced me to you. The rest is history. We were one of the most synergistic player and builder duos in the tournament. You really enjoy building the exact style I like to use and it's just so nice when that happens. All week we would talk DPP with you staying up until 3 or 4 in the morning most nights. You were a huge part of how much fun I had in this tournment.

crayon pop If you didn't recommend me to Dice who then recommended me to the team there is a decent chance I don't get bought. I was already an option at that time but I reckon your recommendation all but secured it. No worries about how busy you were, you connected me with a bunch of different builders which was more than enough. You also sent me teams when you weren't busy which I really appreciate.

Excal I remember when I asked if you could help me prep for semis with SoS and your response was that you and SoS were very different builders and to just stick with him. At the time I thought you were blowing me off but after preparing with both you and SoS in the finals you were very correct about being different builders. Two of the best DPP building minds but wildly different approaches. Suggesting I use Azelf HO in the finals was a genius suggestion as it was a deadly combination of unexpected, in my comfort zone, and quite good into what I expected to see from Christos.

DeepBlueC I really appreciate all of the very thorough and well-written analyses for all of the teams I sent you! It allowed me to cut down on the teams I was considering which was a huge help.

oiponabys I tested with you the most by far. Really appreciate you taking the time to do that it helped me a lot!

Kristyl Thank you for analyzing teams and testing with me!

SFG Thanks for testing and helping me with prep during the playoffs!

Pkel SweeTforU I heard you vouched for me pre-draft like Osgoode did. Thank you for that! Also thank you for helping me with prep in the playoffs!

Really special team atmosphere and I have all of you to thank for that. Everyone did an amazing job with their respective tiers. I am very blessed and thankful to have teamed with such good, hard-working players who were so fun to be around. Clutch too, everyone on the roster either delivered a signature win or were instrumental in prep during the playoffs. I would team with any of you again in a heartbeat. Below, I want to highlight something I connected or vibed with for each teammate, as that was such a vital part of what made this tournament special for me — and I hope it was for you as well.

Managers: Y'all were fucking incredible. We were all already friends before this tour so that made things easier but all of you are so easy to get along with. I really enjoyed the atmosphere you guys set up and the team you put together. It took all three of you to decide to take a gamble on me and it's so cool to see that you guys as well as my teammates were happy with the pick. Y'all are a big reason this tournament was so special for me.

blank I can't seem to get rid of you can I. Haha, it's always enjoyable teaming and bantering with you. This was what our 5th tour together and it gets better each time. I remember right after I signed up, you pmed me and advocated for me up until I got picked. You're always one of the main drivers in creating a really enjoyable and funny chat environment. The team chemistry was amazing this tournament and from a social standpoint you're one of the main reasons why.

Expulso I love how one of my first lines was "Expulso got manager clout now?" ahaha. You're a great and hardworking manager. Early on when I didn't have testers you tested with me quite a bit and I really appreciate that. You did that for a lot of slots as well as got scouts and helped with prep in many ways. You were one of the hardest workers on the team and I really appreciated that. You also don't take yourself too seriously and I really love bantering with you.

d0nut As you said we've known each other the longest, was awesome reuniting with you. Could not have asked for a better trio of managers. Anytime you typed I got flashbacks to old central with finch. You haven't lost your fastball with the one-liners old man. Was fun to team with you again.

pj There never has been and probably never will be a teammate I've clicked with this well right off the bat. Neither of us had ever interacted prior to this SPL to my knowledge and now we spam the most brainless stuff imaginable every day/night. You were a massive reason this tournament was my favorite tournament and I look forward to our adventures in the future especially the fiji vacation #pjerk #manly #goatdon #itsallaboutrespect

Tace Loved talking about pokemon music with you. Some of my favorite moments of the season was finding different tracks I liked and listening to the tracks you liked. We would also chat with each other every week on how we were doing in the standings and hyping each other up and it was such a fun time as it always is with you.

McMeghan Was so fun getting to know you this season. The groudon and goatdon emotes were so awesome and you're such a fun person to joke around with. Whenever I chat with you I get the urge to play Colosseum/XD again for some reason lmfao. I'm very glad we got drafted on the same team.

BIHI Thank you for all of the prep help! The moment that stuck out to me was week 4 when you laid out nearly a dozen cores all of which would have cooked. Was really fun chatting with you and we played off each other's jokes quite well

LpZ Gym bros for life! I knew from the second Expulso made the gym channel we would vibe well together. Immediate connection. Was really fun talking about what we were doing at the gym with both you and Expulso.

damien the genius You and pj were my go-tos for late night discord convos. Always looked forward to trolling/memeing and screwing around with you guys. Loved talking about aussie sports and any other random subject. Was never a dull moment with you, pj and I around.

Kate My biggest fan. Not a day goes by without you mentioning my name. Had a ton of fun messing around with Pippy memes and bantering with you

leng loi One of the hardest workers on the team. Building for four slots was super impressive. Great chat presence as well

dice Always a pleasure teaming with you. You and tace have some of the funniest interactions. As is true with all the midwest guys every tour we spend together gets better each time

S1nn0hC0nfirm3d You bullying Expulso always gave me a laugh, also enjoyed talking about skiing with you

Kaz One of the most creative RBY minds I've seen, also a really great, positive mentality

Arc Undefeated!

Abyssal Ruins Pichus for life!

DAHLI Very positive presence, enjoyed teaming with you!

MANNAT Without you spamming my pms every day pre-auction telling me to sign up and annoying the fuck out of me there is no chance I would have signed up or been in this tournament. After I signed up you even messaged random managers about my classic sheet LMAO. Your joy on stream when I got picked is not something I will soon forget.

KlefkiHolder From watching our Bears lose every year to contributing to a SPL championship. Great work with ORAS building, you and pj were a sick duo. Also really enjoyed chatting and goofing around with you as I have for many years.

Finchinator My first manager but more importantly one of my closer friends on this site. I still remember trying out with you for wcop 2016 and then making the team in 2017. I frequently get nostalgic of the 2017 wcop team especially with d0nut as my manager this season and you're a big reason for why I liked that tournament so much.

Bouff Really awesome chat presence. Was great getting to know you. Had a ton of fun joking with you!

Vileman Thanks for testing with me in finals! I always knew I made the right selection in the Roapl draft. Was fun memeing with you, pj and kh

Garay oak Really great presence. The moment that stuck out to me was after my semis game when I felt like shit and you made me feel so much better. You also helped out with prep for a lot of our slots in playoffs which I really appreciate

Luthier LUTH! Clutch SS building help for TB. Always fun having you around brother

kjdaas Such a positive presence in the chat. I loved when you would hype me up all the time! I really liked your vibe and talking to you!

Sabelette Great job with RBY support and you were such a positive presence!

Jisoo Loved talking about running with you!

Cow Always a very positive presence in the chat. Good job with BW support! I hope you get picked next year, you deserve it!

Zpanther19 Good job with ADV support!

siras Pokemon cards!

Kyo Good job with SM support!

Sceptross clutch RBY support in poffs!

Gingy Triangles crayon pop Kristyl My cryo brothers and sister for life

zioziotrip heileone Confide goldmason oldspicemike Sam SPACE FORCE meeps DripLegend Potatochan OreoSpeedruns ausma Highlord spoo Loved how my midwest fam hyped me this season, another reason I found this season so special. Will be rooting for yall in wcop!

Smogon media team and hosts Awesome job, this was the most hype SPL I've seen

TyCarter BKC johnnyg2 Loved the vids Carter and Kevin and the posts Johnny. Looking forward to your finals post if you plan on dropping one.
