SMITE is a game currently in development that's not too different from games like DotA or LoL, except that it's played from a third-person perspective (as opposed to the isometric bird's-eye-view typical of the genre). You control a god or a deity from one of several different mythologies, and in teams of five, attempt to destroy the opposing team's defenses and ultimately kill their Minotaur, before they can kill yours.

Since it's in closed beta it means you need a beta key to play, -however-, I managed to get my hands on a few beta keys so if you're interested you can post here or PM me and I'll send you a key. Every key also has a refer-a-friend function, so if we can get a chain going we can set up a pretty big playerbase here on smogon.

This looks pretty fun, I'm a moderate player of DotA2, and I like to see diversity like this in the MOBA gnere.

So, can I has key, plz?

EDIT: After watching some footage, the game closely resembles DC Universe Online's Legends PvP mode, (of which I am a fan) So I have to say this seems cool to me.
 
Can I have a beta key? I wanna be one of the Egyptian gods

no I saw the char list already, I wanna be Re or Sebek or Anubis but I don't have a key so I'm sitting here masturbating and crying instead
 
I'm saving up for Guan Yu but until then I've been playing Artemis and damn, for a ranged carry she seems to dominate at all levels. She is great at first blood, zones any melee opponent, and is an almost unstoppable ganker. Since everyone gets items easily, she slips into end game carry mode very reliably. The 3rd person gameplay allows you to use her traps in ways Caitlyn never could, and I pubstomp by luring people into ambushes where I turn on my steroid and take their whole life in 2 seconds. The only game where I didn't get 15-20 kills was my first, where I went about even.

Kali seems to be the most picked at early levels as another pubstomper, but she seems too much like Master Yi to be good competitively.
 
artemis is fantastic, agreed. i haven't got the hang of trap placement yet so i rely on her boar to set up kills for me, though, but i find her early game to be a bit shaky compared to other ranged carries (like anhur!)

as for kali, i've had success against her as ra. zoning her in the early stages of the game helps a lot, but if she's already fed you should flash-blind her and proceed to combo - she'll melt in seconds.

i've been saving up for He Bo who is apparently an extremely powerful nuker: he has two 1.0 ratios and a 1.3 on his ult.

I have never been a fan of bastet!

I am also SUPER disappointed that they included relatively minor bastet over Osiris/Horus/Set/Nephytys(idr how to spell it)/Geb/Nut/the god with a HUGE dick

The point is that it isn't shaky compared to any other ranged carry in either LoL or Dota. Also, you get items so fast in this game that getting to a point where you are hard carrying is pretty much assured. Separating the good players from the bad seems to be just a matter of ganking the shit out of the opponent.

I played every character in practice, my favorites (in theory) would be Guan Yu, Bakasura, Ao Kuang, and Artemis.

Ra makes a really good 1-2 combo with Ymir.

Not interested in playing it atm, but this looks neat. Incidentally there was another 3rd person MOBA-type game called Monday Night Combat awhile back, but that seemed to be more of a shooter.

Would like to see a comparison but I suspect LoL's would come in last.

MNC got a F2P sequel, Super MNC, that is more MOBA-styled and is worse as a result.
