[Overview]

When used effectively, Shroomish can make your opponent rip their hair out in frustration. Despite its poor base stats and movepool, Shroomish can make use of its ability, Poison Heal, to be somewhat successful. Shroomish boasts one of the most annoying sets in all of Little Cup, and this is one of the few sets that can stall in Little Cup. After setting up, Shroomish is very difficult to revenge kill, as it sports useful resistances to Electric-, Water-, and Ground-type attacks. Poison Heal, in tandem with Toxic Orb, allows Shroomish to regain HP even without Leech Seed, though Leech Seed must be up to effectively stall out your opponent. Though it can pull off this one set with great success, it falters in many other areas. Its inability to hit the opponent hard is its biggest weakness, so it cannot be relied upon to break any walls with sheer force.

[SET]
name: Shroom Stall
move 1: Substitute
move 2: Leech Seed
move 3: Protect
move 4: Spore
item: Toxic Orb
ability: Poison Heal
nature: Impish
evs: 196 HP / 196 Def / 116 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

With a combination of good typing, a wonderful ability, and decent defences, Shroomish is able to cause havoc easily with its SubSeed set. The main idea of the set is to switch in on a resisted attack and either Substitute or Spore the Pokemon coming in on the switch. From there, Shroomish uses a combination of the HP it receives from Poison Heal and Leech Seed to stall out the opposition. This is even easier to carry out thanks to the plethora of Pokemon abusing Choice items in Little Cup.

With 25 HP, 16 Defense, and 14 Special Defense, Shroomish can run arguably the most effective SubSeeding set in all of Little Cup. This set achieves its goal by using a combination of Substitute and Protect to make sure that the opponent cannot touch you, while draining their health with Leech Seed and restoring your own. Spore allows Shroomish to put the opponent to sleep 100% of the time, allowing for easy setup.

[Additional Comments]

Shroomish's plethora of resistances to the common attacking types in Little Cup help it easily switch in and set up. Once in, Shroomish can safely put the opponent to sleep with Spore and begin the stalling cycle. Use Substitute on the switch and Leech Seed as the opponent breaks your Substitute. Then, simply alternate between Substitute and Protect to drain your opponent's HP until it is KOed.

Despite Shroomish’s resistances, its Grass-typing gives it several weaknesses as well. Be wary of Ice-, Flying-, and Fire-type attacks when attempting to set up. Ghosts can cause huge problems if they haven't been hit by Leech Seed, as they can easily outpace and KO Shroomish with a STAB Shadow Ball. A dual screen user, such as Bronzor, can help Shroomish take hits better, and Munchlax makes a great partner for Shroomish thanks to its great bulk and ability to counter troublesome Ghosts with Pursuit. Shroomish also has trouble with Wynaut since it has Encore.

[Team Options]

Shroomish’s biggest problem is setting up, and as such, proper support would help its stalling capabilities greatly. Using a dual screener like Bronzor is the best way you can ensure that Shroomish will be able to set up its Substitute as well as Leech Seed. However, Shroomish still has many problems even with dual screen support, one of which is Fire-types who have a super effective STAB attack to destroy Shroomish with, so using Munchlax or another Fire-type resist is needed to help combat them. Munchlax also makes a good check to the Ghost-types, notably Gastly and Drifloon, who run Substitute as well.

Once Shroomish has set up, it could use some support to speed up the amount of time it takes to stall out the opponent. The best support available is the use of entry hazards such as Stealth Rock. Toxic Spikes is generally not very effective due to Croagunk absorbing them, but it is generally worth a shot to help Shroomish stall.

[Optional Changes]

Unfortunately, Shroomish has a horrible movepool and does not have many options outside of the moves listed in the Shroom Stall set. Shroomish can attempt to use a moveset consisting of Spore and Wake-Up Slap in order to have a 120 Base Power move while the opponent is sleeping, but most sleeping opponents will switch out. You may also attempt to use Toxic on the Shroom Stall set instead of Spore to speed up the stalling process. Instead of using Spore, it is possible to chose to attack the opponent instead of putting it to sleep. Seed Bomb offers a reliable STAB move, while Facade could prove valuable once poisoned. Sludge bomb may be used if you would like to hit Grass-types, most notably Snover, for super effective damage.

Shroomish can run a Choice Scarf set fairly well. With 236 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature it hits the magic Speed number of 14. This allows Shroomish to outrun any Pokemon without a Choice Scarf and put them to sleep with Spore. Unfortunately, with base 40 Attack and 40 Special Attack, Shroomish can't do much except for revenge kill weakened Pokemon.

[Counters]

Shroomish is countered by any heavy hitter who is faster than it, as they will likely KO Shroomish before it has a chance to set up. Since Shroomish has no way to defend itself with attacking options, any Pokemon running Substitute can avoid being stalled by Leech Seed. If you can predict when Shroomish will use Protect, you can then switch in a Pokemon to break its Substitute and hit it hard next turn. Meowth makes a great Shroomish counter, as it can break Shroomish's Substitute with Fake Out and then hit it with U-turn. Basically, destroying Shroomish's Substitute leaves it vulnerable to faster threats, so if Shroomish is not behind a Substitute, you should have no trouble dispatching it. Grass-types in particular have no trouble with Shroomish, as they aren't affected by Leech Seed. Dratini also poses huge problems for Shroomish, as its ability, Shed Skin, almost completely nullifies the effect of Spore.

[SET COMMENTS]

With a combination of good typing, a wonderful ability, and good Base Stats (Didn't you say in the overview that it has poor base stats?), Shroomish is able to cause havoc easily with its bread and butter of Sub Seeding. The main idea of the set is to switch in on a resisted attack and either Substitute or Spore the Pokemon coming in on the switch. From there, Shroomish uses a combination of the HP is receives from Poison Heal and Leech Seed to stall out the opposition.
Shroomish can easily come in on the plethora of resistances to the common attacking types of Little Cup (I'm not sure what to do with this one.. It doesn't seem right, but I'm not sure what to replace it with. Something like "Thanks to it's plethora of resistances to common attacking types of Little Cup, Shroomish has plenty of opportunities to come in." Or something like that. Your choice.). Once in, Shroomish can safely put the opponent to sleep with Spore and begin the stalling cycle. Use Substitute on the switch and Leech Seed as the opponent breaks your sub.
Despite Shroomish’s resistances, it's Grass-typing gives it several weaknesses as well. Be wary of Ice-, Flying-, and Fire-type attacks when attempting to set up. Pokemon that can cause problems if it hasn't been hit by Leech Seed, as it can easily outpace and KO Shroomish with Shadow Ball. There you go.

Looking through its movepool wow it does have shitty options lol. I do wonder if Sludge Bomb is worth any mention in optional changes. Considering that you people will probably switch in their grass-types (well Snover) into this and it doesn't have much in the way of threatening them.

It's situational at best, but with the "wonderful" attacking option Shroomish has, the ability to hit Grass-types for super effective damage is definitely enough for me to add the move to Optional Changes- especially with the Ice-type STAB Snover has. thanks for the suggestion, dixie!.

I think it's actually safe to remove the attacking options on this set. It is honestly not an effective set without Spore.

Yeah, that's been done after teaching you the wonderful use of the notice command and talking to you about the set!

red = remove

some nitpicks, well done

This is a little nitpicky, but perhaps you should single out Snover in the counters section-Swords Dances Snover with Substitute can set up on and Shroomish without Sludge Bomb and proceed to tear into your team. Also, almost anything with Sub can beat Shroomish, albeit the ones that switch into Leech Seed/Spore.

I think "grass-types" is good enough. SD Sprout is just as dangerous as SD Snover if not more dangerous. No need to single certain threats out in my opinion, they all counter it.

Substitute needs a mention in the counters section, as Shroomish can't touch anything behind a substitute, and the opponent can easily proceed to setup.

Alright, everybody's nitpicks are added, but Ulysses' about SD Snover. Hyu got it when he said any Grass-type screws Shroomish over since they all stop Leech Seed. The mention of Substitute is definitely worthy of a mention now that Shroomish can't defend itself-actually I had written that, but i guess i never saved the edit when i did it.

shit happens

Munchlax also makes a good check to Misdreavus, OHKOes Shroomish and is a problem with its own Substitute.

you still need to remove the misdreavus sentence at the end of the above paragraph

Once Shroomish has set up, it could use some support to speed up the amount of time it takes to stall out the opponent. The best support available is the use of entry hazards such as Stealth Rock. Toxic Spikes is generally not very effective due to Croagunk absorbing them, but if you’re feeling risky, then it is worth a shot to help Shroomish stall.

Sludge bomb may be used if you would like to hit Grass-types, most notably Snover, for super effective damage.

to be honest, many of the strategies in the above paragraph don't seem very effective. the only reason I would ever use shroomish would basically be spore, and so you forfeit that if you forego spore in place of something else. just my two cents, but you're better at LC than me anyway :P

[Counters]

Shroomish is countered by anyone who is faster than it, as they can KO Shroomish before it has a chance to set up. Since Shroomish has no way to defend itself with attacking options, any Pokemon running Substitute can avoid being stalled by Leech Seed with ease. Grass-types also have a field day against Shroomish, as they aren't affected by Leech Seed. Dratini also poses huge problems for Shroomish, as its ability, Shed Skin, almost completely nullifies the effect of Spore.

Great job GK :) After you add these changes, this will be perfect(?) grammatically, especially thanks to fuzzy, and so unless there are any hidden content things that I didn't pick up on, this should be good to go ?_?
