Banned deucer.
shoegaze is actually quite a blurry genre. it's basically alt rock with noise/psychedelic/experimental elements and dream pop influences. i'm sure most users here are acquainted with the genre tbh

some of my current favorites:

LSD and the search for god - starting over

some of the best shoegaze i've come across in a while. these guys are a psychedelic-shoegaze band, it's shame they've only released 1 EP though.

pinkshinyultrablast - blaster

a russian shoegaze-noiserock band that names itself after an album by astrobrite (another pretty good shoegaze band). this is the best song off the happy songs for happy zombies EP.

astrobrite- radiofriendly

some people consider these guys mbv clones, but imo they have their own unique sound

pasteboard- breakbeats

pasteboard is the side project of japanese indie band "roly poly rag bear". this one's my favorite song by them.

sungrazer - sea

less shoegaze, more stoner rock, but it deserves a mention anyway

white hills - visions of the past, present, and future

space rock/shoegaze band. they are slightly more upbeat than the rest of the stuff on this list.

my bloody valentine - sometimes

entry level

Why are all these threads with dumb-named music genres popping up. I am going to make a music genre called "fuckers". It will be the new thing on the indie scene in about 10-15 years.

jfc if you don't know / don't like / don't care don't post

i really can't access youtube at this point in time (not even my proxy works, so)

Japancakes covered the entire Loveless album and not only is it fantastic but i actually enjoy it more than the original.

A Place to Bury Strangers - 'In Your Heart', 'Keep Slipping Away'

more entry level stuff basically, v enjoyable though

tbh i don't know much more about this genre, and i can't be bothered to trawl through my entire library. i'll probably post later though

The term "shoegaze" can be quite irritating (the bands were looking (or "gazing") at their shoes during their shows so NME and co coined that term, afaik), but it's a pretty legit and awesome genre.

Sungrazer really don't fit in here, though.

This is pretty terrible, the music is not pleasing to the ears and the lyrics are nonexistant... what else is there to make the song actually good?

I listened to a couple of Sungazer songs and found them to be reasonably enjoyable. Not something I'd listen to consistently but definitely decent.

responses of this caliber kind of make me happy that my music threads fall off the face of the earth after 4 or 5 posts!

The lyrics are meant to be nonexistent - shoegaze isn't about the lyrics in the slightest bit. As for the music... well I for one happen to think it is pleasing to the ears!!

god, what a bunch of fucking (BAN ME PLEASE)y posts, if you don't like shoegaze/don't care about it DON'T FUCKING POST, not every thread needs to be graced with your worthless presences

I know everyone slobbers all over the MBV cock that is Loveless, but aside from this song their entire catalog is quite lackluster

it's because the guitarists used a shitton of effects pedals so they'd always be looking down at their pedalboards fiddling with shit with their feet

you could just delete and save a worthwhile thread for those of us who fucking adore shoegaze

how is there no mention of Slowdive in this thread yet (imo Slowdive's Souvlaki album is even slightly more amazing than MBV's Loveless)

The best. I always wonder why Souvlaki gets all the press, I've always thought Just For A Day is their best.

check out skywave's synthstatic if you like the noisier side of shoegaze/jesus and mary chain. i honestly haven't been able to find too much shoegaze outside of the basics that i really like.

i really like all the genre-specific music threads that pop up on smogon - there is so much good music out there that i will snatch up at every opportunity where it's thrust in my face, and my ears.

listening to the first link, "starting over" right now and as a basis for this genre in general, i find shoegaze quite lovely.

Agreed. There have been quite a few good threads like this. I'm still listening to Natsumen after someone started a Japanese post-rock thread. Listened to some of the links in the op and am not sure what I think yet. Will probably need to listen to it while driving to really decide whether I like any of the artists or not. I seem to only be able to get into music in the car nowadays.

And I know this thread has had too many shit posts but I had to say one thing:
shoegazi

Please stop fucking posting. No one needs your immature bullshit in these threads.
