Shared Power Council has decided to suspect test Quark Drive once again!

A lot has changed since the last time it was suspect tested, most importantly Psychic Surge got restricted and Rillaboom banned, this heavily changed how Terrain related abilities and moves function in the format, moving the power balance in favor of Electric Terrain as now is the only relevant Terrain, and while it has plenty of different tools like Raichu-Alola, Galavanize strategies and Unburden users, the one that is perceived as the most dangerous is still Quark Drive, as is still the last form of speed control that isn't restricted while also giving the option of being used for offensive or defense boosts.

But Quark Drive still isn't perfect, a 1.5x boost is something that can be matched by fast Scarf users and the restricted speed boosting abilities, on top of having to be careful with strong priority users that are now stronger than before thanks to Psychic Surge no longer being relevant. On top of that, there is also the fact you have to fit Pincurchin into the team somehow, which is usually a dead mon as it doesn't have the stats to keep up and its utility being limited, specially with Levitate making any Spike it could try to set worthless in sometimes over half of your games.

This suspect is to decide if Quark Drive becomes Restricted (can't be shared) or not.

Requirements:
NOTE: THIS TEST WILL BE USING A NEW SUSPECT PROCESS!

The instructions to participate in this test are as follows:

Create a new account on PS. You do not have to follow any specific naming convention, but your suspect account must have never played a game in Shared Power before this suspect test went up or you will not receive valid requirements (resetting W/L does not count for this - the account you use must never have played Shared Power before the test, full stop.)
At any point on your new account, use the command /linksmogon on Pokemon Showdown! You will receive instructions on what to do once you run this command.
Double check that you're listed as a voter here! If you aren't listed as a voter despite having valid reqs, please contact myself, Giagantic, Isaiah or a member of staff.
If you have any questions about this new process, feel free to PM me or post here!

The requirement to vote in this suspect test is a COIL value of 2900. The deadline for getting requirements will be Thursday, November 14th. Good luck to all!

hello everyone gonna make this post on my view of quark drive (and do a lil flex of being the first person to get reqs)

is quark drive broken? kind of, but is it rly? quark drive gives a boost to everyone in the team it also avoid rest which means some stall matchups are a free win just because, pinc might not be the best mon ever but quark drive teams tends to run adaptability, sheer force thanks to lando unban and terrain boosts as well so even tho it seems an useless mon at first once the abilities are setup it can easily take KOs on its own, as kaen mentioned now that rilla got banned and psy terrain got restricted electric terrain just dominates so strategies like electric seed unburden sneasler also works, unfortunately running indeedee or thwackey is not rly good because psy terrain gets overwritten every switch and thwackey is pretty bad so there isnt rly a counter play to electric terrain which is kinda unfair, depending on how u build the team u can make it so u can win every speed or offensive contest with mons like raichu alola, sneasler with unburden, bundle and other fast options, fluffy support is viable as it helps not lose vs priority spam teams, ofc im not gonna pretend quark drive teams are unbeatable it gets a bit scuffed once berry teams shows up but if u outpace them it shouldnt be too hard to win because berry teams tend to lose because they take too long to setup all abilities and boosts, so are quark drive teams healthy for the tier? i honestly believe quark drive itself is not the problem if u look at the big picture but the problem is the support it gets, i think lando shouldnt have been unbanned, spectrier is also a good option to these teams which shouldnt have been unbanned, adaptability should be restricted imo but thats a whole different matter sooo if u take away all the brokens around is quark drive broken? i dont think so honestly the only reason why quark drive teams are so popular is because of the support around it, quark drive itself is not broken nor the problem in my opinion

Quark Drive is absolutely broken. Adaptability and Sheer Force are both generic abilities that apply to any special (and sometimes physical) team, and Houndstone is the most common defensive Pokemon, so I really do not see these three getting restricted or banned anytime soon. Furthermore, berry teams are mostly a stall option for beating Quark Drive, and they can still be defeated by Quark Drive teams (unless it's that super annoying Carbink) using setup moves such as Nasty Plot on Landorus or Spectrier or Calm Mind on Iron Valiant. For a generic offensive team not running Quark Drive, the chances of beating a Quark Drive team are low and force you to use priority moves since it is impossible to outspeed their Pokemon.

The main abusers/helpers of Quark Drive teams are Pincurchin/Electric Surge, Landorus, Spectrier, Sneasler, Iron Valiant, Iron Bundle, and Comfey. Iron Bundle is the worst of these Pokemon as it has a relatively low special attack compared to other special Pokemon and only has two main STABs, but it is extremely fast. A restriction or ban on Pincurchin/Electric Surge would either be too extreme or only make Quark Drive players be more careful about their Quark Drive turns and use Terrain Extender. Landorus is a healthy Pokemon that gets boosted from Quark Drive to a near broken degree, as it can outspeed most offensive Pokemon that are supposed to check it and OHKO them. Quark Drive enables Landorus to become a sweeper that it never should have become. If Landorus was banned, Quark Drive could simply shift to using Spectrier or a different Sheer Force Pokemon such as Braviary-Hisui or Gurdurr. Comfey is interesting as it almost needs Quark Drive as another damage modifier for Draining Kiss, which easily shuts down priority teams if they ever rise to prominence (they haven't, I was wrong about priority being broken). Spectrier is a generic special Pokemon that should be banned for being an easy replacement or addition to Sheer Force, as well as being able to set up on any special wall besides Blissey and Chansey. However, it does not really enable Quark Drive teams that much and doesn't offer good coverage. Iron Valiant is the main Quark Drive Pokemon and its flexible moveset boosted by Sheer Force and Adaptability make it able to OHKO almost any Pokemon, which is why it is used more than Iron Bundle. Banning Iron Valiant would just make players shift to using Iron Bundle, Iron Moth, and maybe even Iron Jugulis, which does not fix the core issue of Quark Drive enabling almost every Pokemon on the team. Lastly, Sneasler should absolutely be banned. Even though it synergizes more with Electric Surge than Quark Drive, it still appreciates the 1.3x Atk boost, and restricting Quark Drive would make Sneasler just a normal Adaptability Pokemon on Quark Drive teams.

tldr
Quark Drive makes strong mons too speedy
Speedy strong mons bad
ghost horse and sneezer bad

(This is my first time getting reqs for a suspect btw, so I'm not too sure what to say)

Went 23-4 with this team (3 of my losses were against the same stall-ish team though).

I don't think Quark Drive is that broken. While teams with it can be hard to beat, I think the abusers/ability sharers like Landorus, Sneasler, and Spectrier are a bigger problem. I don't think they should be quickbanned though.

By the way, I enjoy the new COIL system. I had to play much fewer games to earn reqs (although that might be because of the Quark Drive team and Intimidate stall team I used), which was less frustrating for me than having to repeatedly create new accounts and face terrifying low ladder teams.

I already made a post about how I feel but after using quark drive more I still came to the same conclusion quark drive only threats are priority teams and specific berry teams which both can be dealt with. priority teams usually have only breloom/zangoose/crawduant or basculegion but they need to get set up and get moxie boost before that they dont have the brute strength also houndstone completely shits on those teams unless they have decidueye. For berry teams I mean if you really hate berry teams you can run galvantula or you snowball with grim neigh boost most berry teams dont have ting lu so you can easily sweep only big problem is endure but besides that you should be fine.

https://pokepast.es/c28b58247a025105 this is the team I use I would probably change ting lu item to like leftovers or rocky helmet. My quark drive team is a little different I ditch adaptability for ting lu for added defensive utility like rocks so lando doesnt need to run it and whirlwind helps with someone trying to go for the win right away. I am trying to put adaptability + ting lu its just very hard. Also the whole time I was using that team I used hydropump once on iron bundle which I found funny.

I think it should be restricted and even after it I think it will still be strong but without everything being unholy strong or fast iron valiant/other quark drive mons with adaptability + grim neigh + sheer force will still be crazy. I think spectrier should also be tested it works so well shadow ball spam + tera coverage + snowball ability also one of the fastest pokemon crazy wall breaking potential with sub and taunt or nasty plot and one tap anything.

We are getting close to the deadline, and it looks like a few people have reached 2900 Coil but haven't linked these showdown accounts to their smogon accounts, remember that you just have to type /linksmogon on any chatroom in showdown for the process to happen, if you have any trouble with the process just notify it to the om leaders. Sometimes switching browsers is enough to fix any issues you may have, just don't let the time pass.
