Serebii Confusion about GUTS&Flame Orb

In-Battle Effect:
Attack raises to 1.5 times the normal when induced with a status (Burn, Paralyze, Sleep, Poison, Freeze). Burn's effect of lowering Attack is still applied.



hmmmmmm. So my guts swellow@flame orb is useless?


on a related note is toxic orbs effect like toxic? or just poison..
 
Guts increases the dmg, effectively negating the -1.5 from Burn.

So, instead of guts making the negative from burn break even, it instead increases the dmg.

in other words, guts negates the negative of burn and still adds the + to dmg
 
so it negates the -attack from burn? So..my swellow still recieves 1.5x attack BUT stil takes the damage. am i geting this?


so my swellow has 250 attack for example, if its guts with flame orb...itll actually have 375?

That's correct.
This makes Flame Orb superior to Toxic Orb in every way (if there's not an especial rule for Flame Orb, that is).
 
Yes. Serebii is not perfect. But it is still the absolute best source for Pokemon information around our beloved internets.

There's not any special rules; Flame Orb inflicts Burn, plain and simple. Toxic Orb is IMO better for something that will come in and out like Swellow, though, since it takes 3 turns for Toxic damage to catch up to Burn.

And for things like Breloom with its ability
 
I have a Swellow on my team with this same strategy. I use Facade. (140 damage+STAB= yay) But will Toxic Orb just poison, or Toxic-fy it? Which is better, Toxic Orb or Flame Orb, for Swellow?
 
Toxic Orb makes it badly Poisoned. It is better because Swellow is hit and run, and Poison does less damage than burn at first.
